Diner Reviews
  • "Really good outdoor seating (they were able to give me a table outside even though I hadn't specified on the reservation). Street was quiet, so was able to have good conversation. Didn't feel rushed at all during brunch and there was always someone available when we needed something. My friend and I got the spinach ravioli - it was fine (nothing exciting), but a lot of their other dishes looked great."

  • "Arte cafe is a dependably great place to go with two outdoor eating areas. Roomy indoor eating areas as well, where you are not too close to other people. Food is great every time so far. Took the three kids to celebrate my birthday and ate outside in the back area which is quite spacious with an awning they can open up should it start to rain. Waiters were attentive and friendly. All around a very lovely experience."

  • "This is an excellent brunch spot on the UWS. The menu is delicious, and brunch runs until 4pm. They offer a $20 bottle of champagne for mimosas, etc, which is a great deal. The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance, and the food is very reasonably priced. A!"

  • "We are definitely glad that our friend suggested dinner at Arte Cafe, as we had a delicious meal (appetizer, entrees, desserts), nice glass of wine, and warm service. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Great choice of food variety and meal preparation. Wonderful wine list. Attentive service."

  • "I have been to Arte many times and the food is consistently well prepared with fresh ingredients. The homemade pasta special with scallops and sausage was excellent. This is the first time I sat in the back garden. July 5th was a beautiful day and evening; the garden quiet and lovely. Such a rarity in Manhattan."

  • "Traditional Italian food at moderate prices. Though wine per glass was pricey for not much."

  • "Pleasant and comfortable ambiance, attentive staff, and with very good food and wine. Felt very relaxed and happy. Not too much noise, but we did have to change tables to get away from the loudspeaker."

  • "Good food at reasonable prices but the add-on of $2 for the beet salad was not worth it. The Mediterranean salad was a better choice. Accommodating, friendly service. Reasonable, very good food for a frequently expensive neighborhood with only mediocre food."

  • "The food was excellent, but the waiter seemed somewhat inexperienced. As the meal progressed, he became somewhat inattentive. I had to ask another waiter to get my second drink to prevent getting it served with my entree. Then there was a 30 minute wait between our appetizers and entree. The woman next to us was not pleased with her service as well. When the waiter brought her the check, she said, "Don't leave!" I guess she thought it would be a while before he would return. I'll come back here, but if the service is like this again, it will be the last time."

  • "Unfortunately we were chased by a few drops of rain but the outdoor space is really nice and the food is good."

  • "This is a tried and true neighborhood gem! Food is consistently good, well prepared with fresh ingredients in a comfortable italian villa atmosphere. Staff is always accommodating. The pricing is fair."

  • "I have been going to Arte Cafe for over 10 years. It is a solid restaurant with very good basic Italian food. The service can be spotty occasionally, but overall is good too."

  • "i had not been to Arte Cafe for a very long time, and at that it had been maybe only 2-3 times. this time it was to meet s very long time friend, who i had not seen in a very long time. it was a big hit for both of us, on all fronts. the outdoor garden was a special treat, and she is looking to return and introduce Arte to family."

  • "We had reservations, yet we waited 20 minutes before being seated. We waited an additional 7-10 minutes for anyone to bring us water, and another 5 minutes after that before our waiter came to take our order. The waiter seemed like a nice guy, and apologized for the delay. Our food came promptly (and was pretty good), but was the last we saw of our waiter for the rest of the afternoon. Half and hour after cleaning our plates, there was still no sign of our waiter. I asked a passing busser for our check, and the waiter from one table over came with it, reading the check out loud to us, asking it if it was ours. After paying, we walked past the bar towards the exit and there our original waiter is, sitting at the bar chatting to his coworker."

  • "Garden is a crowded deck, constantly moving tables above ur head while ur eating. Not enough help. Asked 4x for coffee, got after meal. Waiter gave a drink on the house as apology. Food was decent for price. Brunch mimosa pitcher for $20 worth every bit."

  • "We had been here before and were excited to return because of the good food. However, the food was good but the poor service and rude waiter will never allow me to return. No only was the waiter rude, but he charged us for drinks we paid for at the bar. Slick to say the least."

  • "Had a terrific brunch here on Saturday. Even though restaurant is italian by night - the brunch choices were more generic such as pancakes, omelettes, waffles, french toast, eggs benedict, etc. Everything was delicious and in a very lovely setting. You have a choice of brick walled main room, front outdoor seating or garden seating."

  • "Second time we have eaten here. Food was very good both times! This time my husband had the the fish which was was fresh and nicely prepared and I had a fresh pasta dish which was excellent. Despite the fact that it is the first level of a brownstone the room is light and airy. The bar area also has seating and looked very pleasant and inviting and there is outside dining. We would definitely go back next time we're in the area. If you are going to the Beacon Theater, it is only two blocks away."

  • "I have gone here a dozen times. It's a great choice for Lincoln Center dining, if you don't mind the 5 minutes walk downtown after eating. The food is good and the prices are very reasonable. The dining room is relatively quiet, and they have a fun little terrace out front and a garden in back. The only problem is the service. There never seems to be a professional, in-charge manager taking the reigns. On my latest visit, once our food came we were ignored. I had to get a pepper mill myself, and it took five requests to get a refill on an iced tea and a glass of wine. Other times, the service has been fine, but it's a pity it's so uneven, because otherwise I'd have no problem giving the restaurant at least four start."

  • "Had a great time. Sat out in the garden - it was wonderful. Food was delicious. Great eggplant parm, salad, and chicken! Looking forward to going back soon!!"

  • "My friend and I had an 11 a.m. reservation, so the place was not crowded at all. The young woman at the entrance was on the phone with a customer and we stood and waited a good bit longer than we should have had to until she asked the person to hold. By now there were four other people waiting behind us. We were seated and there were only two other parties out in the back. It took a long time for the server to come, a long time for him to bring water, and a long time for the food to arrive. It was incredibly noisy. There were not enough umbrellas to shade folks from the very strong sun. The food was lackluster. All in all enough to make me not want to return."

  • "Friendly staff. Nice place in a decent neighborhood. The food was average, wasn't impressed. Don't think I'd go back."

  • "The only problem was the chattering waiters who seemed to gather near our table. I have been going to Arte Cafe for years and always bring out of towners here. They always want to return when they visit again."

  • "Only problem, table, by first window, was tippy and I find that annoying. Waiter said due to top of table and not fixable by a wedge."

  • "We went here for the first time on Sunday for brunch and sat out on the patio. It took 10 minutes for someone to come over to our table to ask what we wanted to drink. Then another 10 min to receive the drink and the corn muffins they serve with brunch. The corn muffins were disappointing -not warm and were not served with any butter or jam. After another 10 minutes we FINALLY were able to place our order. The food took forever to come. They had a few big parties, but the waitress never came back to say they were sorry for the delay, or ask if we needed anything. The food finally came (although the waiters kept bring our food to the WRONG table) and it was delicious, but the waitress never came back again to bring the check. Bad service."

  • "Went for brunch on a Sunday and it was busy. Great outside dining. We had my 2 year old with us. No kids menu and they did not have the pizzas that were on the menu but they offered to make him a 1/2 order of pasta which was perfect. Our food was fine. The ambience was more worth it. "

  • "Hubby and I had a lovely time dining at the outdoor seating area in front of the restaurant. We shared the Caesar salad which was excellent and the fried zuchini with tomato sauce on the side. My husband had the shrimp and pasta dish which was excellent and I had the classic meatballs and pasta which was also excellent. Service was very good and we will most definately go again. This time we would like to try the outdoor seating area in the back which is also great for larger groups. "

  • "An attractive dining room, with only fair food. The service was just right for us and they let us wait a long time for late party member . food could be more flavorfuil .notoutstanding in neighborhood of many similar places!"

  • "This was our first visit to Arte Cafe. After some wrangling we were finally seated next to a noisy/busy "serving station" with the salutation "Here you are chief". We were served bottled water, which had a peculiar taste. I had the Mediterranean salad, my date had the Crab cake. Both were tasty. Our salads had long been finished when our entrees finally arrived. Soon afterward our waitress informed us that we would be getting a substitute waiter. Both my date and I agreed that the Chicken PARMIGIANA we ordered was tasty enough. It took some doing to get the new waiter's attention in order to get our bill. When it came we noticed that it had been doubled, a fact that the waiter initially had trouble figuring out. Disappointing! "

  • "Overall, Ruined Mother day for our special love ones. The list can go on of bad things that happened but I really don't blame the servers its more of management or owner for not being on top of things. Every guest in the patio was annoyed because of the service & meals. It is unfortunate that on a special day like this, the restaurant wasn't ready for its guests. Breakdown: -Dirty table Linens ( We asked to be changed but work was done incomplete and annoyed) -Silverware for 3 instead of 6 (why reserve?) -Waiter Spilled all (6) sodas & only gave the remainder instead of replacing it -Missing 2 glasses w/ Ice plus an extra soda bottle -Chipped Glass & dishes -Meals tasteless - steak overcooked - This was a time &waste of money.
