Diner Reviews
  • "We had a wonderful Saturday night dinner before Easter with my family. I would highly recommend Arte Cafe any time. "

  • "The setting, service, and food quality was great. However the only factor detracting from our brunch was the noise level. I understand this wasn't the fault of the restaurant and could have been more a function of the day. It was a struggle to hear the person sitting next to you without having to significantly raise one's voice. "

  • "I have liked Arte Café for a long time-nice space, food and prices. We went for the Early bird special before 6pm. Sadly all but 4 pasta dishes were an additional charge. Same with appetizers. If you expect to leave paying for the early bird special price then you will be extremely limited on what you can order. The deal is for an appetizer, entrée and dessert. After dealing with the few choices for the meal you will then be told that there is only one dessert available-no choice at all which was an inedible flan with what seemed like Bosco on it. Avoid this. Unfortunately the waiters seem distracted even when the restaurant is hardly filled and you may have to move your own table to prevent from being bumped into a dozen times or more. "

  • "The ambience is great but the food is super dull. We won't be going back."

  • "Went here for a birthday brunch, only 6 people, had a 1:00pm reservation on a Sunday to sit outdoors. Rsvr was 1st nice day of the year. Another party of 6 ahead of us with a 12:45 reservation, around 1:30 we were finally told they were setting our tables, then suddenly someone, manager? took another more obnoxiously upset group of 4 ahead of us. We then waited an additional 1/2 hr while they got 2 more chairs for us. Once seated, it took another 20 min to get drinks and muffins -we were hungry! Pitchers of drinks helped, food came out pretty quick. Decent food. Outdoor patio was ok til another group asked for the awning to be put down? Would only go back if I had time and some drinks before hand. Not even an apology from management..."

  • "I have been to Arte Cafe many times and have always enjoyed it. The service on Sunday, though, was disappointing from the hostess to the server to the bus boys. The hostess did not enter me as arrived in the Open Table system and was flustered and awkward. The server did not smile the entire time and made multiple mistakes. Between she and the bus boys, who she must have asked to serve us most of our meal, got literally everything wrong. The whole attitude at Arte this weekend seemed to be "we'll provide some food, though not necessarily what you order, but don't expect anything resembling service.""

  • "Live across the street so wanted to like the restaurant. Made a reservation for 6 in the garden. They called to confirm! When we arrived we were told they can't seat 6 in Garden. Was the first nice day of the year. There was available seating outside in the front. The inexperienced young help could not get it together so we had to sit indoors. Sloppy service, bland food. Skip this place"

  • "Great Northern Italian Cuisine, Pizza & Pasta at it's best, wine-list could use some help, attentive service, even though I could have used another drink before main-course, but in the end it's their loss and maybe I should drink less anyway. Food was delicious, Minestrone and Lamb-Shank at it's best, also awesome Pizza which we often order for delivery, prices are balanced which always makes us return-customers... It's nice to have a quality, non-franchise place in the neighborhood."

  • "The spinach and cheese ravioli I ordered was delicious and they brought it out very quickly."

  • "The food and service were mediocre, but my friend and I were able to have a good conversation at lunch without being drowned out by music or our fellow diners."

  • "Went to Arte Cafe on saturday for brunch with my sister and cousin. Great sangria and great meal! The omelet was huge! Had music on but it wasn't too loud that you could not hear what the person at your table was saying. So much fruit in the sangria, which made the very strong drink even better!"

  • "Nice atmosphere. Food and service were very good. Prices were reasonable for NYC."

  • "Our waiter was charming and helpful. The wine list is extensive and he was familiar with it. We pointed out that one of our wines didn't taste quite right and he whisked it away without hesitation and replaced it with his recommended Montepulciano. My angel hair pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente, but the primavera veggies lacked flavor. I can't remember adding salt or pepper to a restaurant-prepared dish until now. My husband's salmon was tasty, and our friend's beet salad had just the right mix of arugula, chevre and pistachios. I love the vintage photos of Italians eating that are scattered throughout the room."

  • "Always dependable as a perfect site for a casual, quiet, delicious and well priced dinner"

  • "I get it, it's NYC, you usually have to wait a bit after your reservation time to be seated. But not over an hour for brunch. Once we were finally seated, we waited a solid 15 minutes before a server came. He was not rude, but not friendly at all. Simply asked us what we wanted. Then the food took forever and it was just mediocre. I will never come back here again."

  • "This used to be a great, well priced little neighborhood spot. It certainly has become sloppy based on our last visit. Whille service was sweet enough it was a challenge to get a waiter's attention. Then, a long wait to place our order, another long wait for our drinks etc The food is merely passable, my spaghetti and meatballs came as a dish of floppy noodles with six mean, tough little meatballs lacking in flavor. A real snooze and not worth the calories. The beat salad was generously sized, but also missed out on any semblance of zingy freshness. It certainly feels like no one is watching either the "House or the Kitchen". This place likely works best for a family supper with small children -other than that save your money."

  • "While it is noisy as some previous posters mentioned, that's just NY dining! The food is good, the service is attentive and it's a place that you can feel comfortable with a romantic dinner for two, a family gathering or a meal with friends, I also dined here the next night. Have been there many times and the new (last summer) outdoor back dining area is great - if winter will ever go away! I'll be back!"

  • "A well rounded restaurant that doesn't feel too formal, and the food is out of this world."

  • "THE waitress was new & we were 12 people they should have given us someone with more expeience"

  • "While the food was enjoyable and the service adequate, the noise level at Arte Cafe this past Saturday evening was such that one of my dinner partners needed to move from one side of the table to another in order to hear a dinner companion. Arte Cafe is definitely not the place to go for a quiet conversation over dinner!"

  • "The food was delicious. The personnel are a pleasure to deal with. The prices are quite moderate."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "although prices have crept up, the prix fixe here is the best bargain around, particularly if you're going to Lincoln Center. For Quality-Cost, you can't beat it."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "Great value restaurant with a vibrant enviornment. Food was delicious and mimosas kept coming - which for a birthday girl was great! Challenge came with service, which was patchy -- water glasses left unfilled, wrong food being brought to the table, non attentive staff -- and with having to argue with three different waiters to bring over a birthday "cake, dessert or pancake" with a candle to sing happy birthday. All in all, the experience was good, but driven motly by the food and my friends!"

  • "I went on a second date with someone I hope is a potential candidate for something longterm. We had reservations for 11:30 am. We were able to hear each other without yelling...until the Sunday noon crowd entered! People came in droves and loud! But for what it's worth, the food was great and my date went well."

  • "We generally love Arte, but were dissatisfied with our Brunch. My wife and I both had the Crab-cake Eggs Benedict and there was very little crab meat. We were with another couple and could barely hear each other when deafening hip-hop music would intermittently come blasting on the loud speakers. On that point, your questionnaire asks this question poorly. None of the Noise Level choices (quiet, moderate, energetic, don't recall) are negative, which was was our experience. You should re-think the response choices...just a thought."

  • "We had a 12:30 reservation and had to wait about 45 min for our table to be ready. The hostess kept telling us to have a drink at the bar but we did not want to have a drink. It was very crowded., very noisy. The food was just average, nothing out of the ordinary. I made it so clear how I wanted my food prepared and it came out with the salad drinking in dressing up against and over my eggs which had to be prepared without butter, oil etc. received the same omelette back with a little salad without dressing. We wre charged for more beverages than we had-9 coffee and teas for 6 people who had coffee or tea. Unfortunately we had not noticed until we got home. We will definitely go elsewhere for brunch in the future."

  • "Took Chicago friends here to show them what a neighborhood restaurant is really like. They were impressed by everything and a good time was had by all."

  • "We love this place. Built within adjacent brownstones, this place is unique among NYC restaurants. It's large enough to get a table easily, but made up of several rooms so it always feels charming and intimate. They offer a wide array of appetizers, antipasti, salads, pastas, pizzas, fish and meats - many classics, many with added fair. We've been coming back for years."

  • "This is a very solid Italian restaurant in a great neighborhood on the upper West side. We took some new friends There and we talked for hours. The waitstaff was very friendly. The only downside was my lovely wife salmon was undercooked from the well-done order and had to go back and it took a little too long to get the food to the table because they were very busy otherwise it was a very successful evening ....I highly recommend it! Spike"

  • "The food at Arte Cafe has always been very good. But there is not enough help, and waits between courses can be interminable -- that is if the waiter doesn't forget to bring your desserts altogether. And the pricing system is absurd. The price-fixed dinner menu is $14.95, yet almost every item on the menu is followed by +1, +2, +3 or +4. Why not make the dinner price $18.00 or $20.00 and stop all the nonsense with the plusses? However, this restaurant is part of a chain that on other occasions has shown its complete disdain for its customers, so I suppose nothing will change. Except that mu/]y wife and I, and our fellow=diner friends, won't go back."

  • "It was my birthday dinner and it was superb in every way except noise level. Way too much, but I got used to it. I don't know how it could be reduced, anyway; it's a moderately large place. I would like to see some noise reduction solutions like carpeting, baffles in the ceiling. But the noise won't keep me away. I had a wonderful time with my friends."

  • "Okay, let's say this We made the mistake of going at 6:30 - too late for the early bird dinner but early enough to have the entire room filled with seniors lingering over coffee and dessert. And linger they did, chatting away. They seemed to be having a wonderful time. Food was very good, especially the fried zucchini. Huge portions and low prices are the attraction too, even ordering off the menu. Next time we'll either arrive early enough to order the cheap prix fixe, or late enough to have a more diverse crowd."

  • "I was surprised to see that the menu had changed so abruptly for the unlimited brunch drinks that was on their website. As soon as I came in, the server had seated us promptly but it took the server about 10 minutes to come to our table. To my surprise, they had completely changed the brunch drinks from unlimited drinks to $20 per bottle of mimosas, screwdrivers, peach bellinis, and bloody marys. I had asked the server why the menu had changed and she said that it was similar to the original unlimited drinks menu they had, which it clearly wasn't. The food was pretty decent. If you don't want to drink much for your brunch than the bottles are a very good deal otherwise there are locations in the city that give unlimited drinks for brunch."

  • "The place was disturbingly understaffed for a Saturday brunch. Had to wait 15 minutes despite the fact I had made a reservation. When we were finally seated, they gave us a tiny table in the back (we were a party of three). The table cloth was dirty and no bread was served. The food was mediocre at best. No intention of ever returning."

  • "What a great restaurant. Located in a townhouse on a beautiful street )73rd) between CPW and Amsterdam. There is an early bird special until 6 p.m. for $12.95 which looked inviting. We ordered from the regular menu which was more extensive. The food was hot when it came out and the service was good. Perfect location if you are going to the Beacon Theatre."

  • "It might be hard to find on your first try, but you'll be itching to come back when you do. Large selection of brunch items, and the 3 egg breakfast with potatoes, caramelized onions, mini salad, and bacon or sausage is by far the best deal on the menu. They easily accommodated a party of 6 (with a reservation), and can do more. But be on time! This place is in heavy demand. Especially during brunch with their $20 bottle specials on champagne, mimosas, bloody marys, and the like."

  • "Upon arrival we were told our table wasn't ready, and there were 3 other bookings stood waiting for their tables as well. We had to wait a further 15-20 mins for a table whilst they opened another seating area out the back, which was cold and very drab compared to the main restaurant. The service proceeded to be very slow from then on, we had to ask several times for someone to please take our drinks order and we repeatedly asked for an ice bucket for our champagne (once it eventually arrived!) and this was given to us just as we were pouring the last glass! Hopeless. We shan't be rushing back any time soon."
