  • "I think the oenophiles of Chicago should go here ASAP. It's the kind of place where you want to bring your better quality wines to complement an awesomely tasty meal (a fusion of foods from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Spain). I got the paella the first time and the salmon on my second visit. Dinner pals got lamb rib and chicken dishes, and we shared terrific seafood appetizers. The story on how the chefs are also the artists and the ease of parking on Ravenswood are pluses, as is the fact the tables are nicely spaced to allow private conversation with your dinner mates. Friendly, informed and authentic servers make it an altogether enjoyable experience."

  • "I was looking for a place to set the mood with my wife in continuation of a romantic weekend. I was intrigued by the name and location of this restaurant so I booked it. Beautiful decor and ambiance. We had an early booking because of a play we were attending so the place was only 1/3 full. The service was professional and courteous. They were able to get us to our play on time without making us feel rushed. The food was amazing and beautifully presented."

  • "Saturday was our first visit to ARTango. It's truly an exceptional restaurant. The food and presentation was exquisite. Service was exceptional. My wife and I both had steak with chimichurri sauce. I opted for the New York strip, while she chose a thinner skirt steak. Both were cooked EXACTLY to order - served at the perfect temperature for each of our preferences. The ambiance feels special...somehow intimate within a space that was formerly a warehouse. ARTango is BYOB. There are no liquor stores nearby so be sure to bring a bottle with you. There is plenty of parking right out front or the Montrose Brown Line stop is 2 blocks away. Highly recommended."

  • "The food definitely punches above it's weight class. For this quality downtown your tab is going to be almost double. The salmon was great, though the sauce could be halved. The strip was cooked perfectly and quite flavorful without making you forget it was steak. BYOB is the icing on the value-laden cake!"

  • "Would have never known it was there except for groupon. Well worth the trip. Food was a bit pricey but having a groupon and being able to bring our own wine made the cost very doable. Our waiter was excellent. When we first got there the room was very chilly...we weren't able to take our coats off, but he was happy to raise the temperature and also very helpful with food recommendations. Interesting decor and if another groupon comes up we will be sure to go back. Not open every evening so be sure to check the hours before going."

  • "We had dinner at Artango for the first time on Saturday night. There were 4 of us. We all enjoyed the food and especially loved the atmosphere, just a very special feel to the place and our waiter, Yuri (sp?) was delightful. Beautiful art on the walls created by one of the owners and great lighting add up to very special place."

  • "Artango was such a great restaurant that I would actually revisit the restaurant once again. Thier duck entree was one of the best duck entrees I've ever had eaten. Lamb chop were Ok but still very good. Lobster bisque soup was perfect. Atmosphere was great. And to top of the top it off, it's a BYOB restaurant which won't break your wallet."

  • "This place has a very nice, vibrant feel to it. I was impressed with the lighting, the lofty feel, speed of service, and the overall energy level (which, for a Friday night at 8:00 was NOT over-bearing and crazy). I am looking forward to going back for dinner again and trying a new dish (I had the stuffed pepper, which was decent) but also eager to sit outside this summer and do brunch/summer cocktails!"

  • "In all these years dining in Chicago, this had to be one of the worst dining experiences of all time. On a cold night, we had asked for a table away from the window to avoid the draft. The hostess gave us the window table anyway and stating that there would not be any draft. She was wrong. The meal itself got off to a poor start when the waitress could not tell apart mahi-mahi from tuna in ceviches. Skirt steak was incredibly tough and chewy - did not help that they didn't bother to provide steak knife. Roasted chicken was tender but had no flavor whatsoever. We could have gotten more flavorful chicken at Costco for a fraction of what they charge in this place. None of the food items had much flavor let alone South American flavor."

  • "The restaurant is tucked away from a main street so unless you're going there, you won't know of its existence. Parking has ample space. We were there Sunday night, it was pretty empty. As soon as I walked in, I was impressed with the decor. The ambiance was wonderful and romantic with dim lighting. Definitely a great date place. We were celebrating a b-day and brought couple of bottles of wine. They do not charge a corkage fee, which is nice. The wait staff was very attentive. We ordered only entrees which really ended up being enough. The food was great. We were all impressed with the plating presentation and taste. We were pleasantly surprised when "alfajores" arrived gratis- what a wonderful gesture. Will definitely return!"

  • "ARTango was a beautiful place. The food was interesting and very yummy. There were very attentive while giving us our space (7 ladies for a breakfast). My only complaint was it took forever to get a coffee (which was remarkable once I got it) and a friend's hot chocolate wasn't to her liking. The prices were reasonable as well. Please note it is BYOB. They did say they have juices and the link if we were to out and get champaigne."

Artango's restaurant week menu consisted of many of its regular items; a nice introduction to this restaurant. The empanadas were excellent. The "bus" people, however, were too eager to clear the table while we were eating. They kept coming to ask if we were finished about every 5 minutes. That became rather annoying."

  • "Food lacked flavor. Extremely poor service with very few employees who speak English. Someone decided to bring their child to a nice restaurant where patrons were paying a decent amount of money for the horrible food. The child proceeded to cry for the entire hour and a half we were at the restaurant. It was quite clear that we were not satisfied with our food and not once did our server or anyone else ask how our meals were. Will never return."

  • "I went there with a group of friends on Saturday night, and let me say this, I fell in love with the place. I had previously been there for brunch on a Sunday morning, and I thought the place was very nice, but to see the place at night glowing with soft lighting was a very different, the place was beautiful. We ordered empanadas and provoletta for appetizers and they were awesome! Everybody's food was very good, some better than the other one, but everyone's was good. Staff was very attentive and courteous. Everyone in my group enjoyed the place very much and will be coming back, I know I will."

While the restaurant has a nice modern and artsy setup, the food has a long way to go, specially given the category it is trying to play in with the way they have priced the menu. Simply said, you can find better food in Chicago for the price. The ambiance is great so perhaps they will work on raising the bar on the food."

Still, with still water and candles and weird loft aesthetics we had a decent time. The portions were generous for their prix fixed restaurant week menu, and came out fast. A little too fast. Server was very nervous but nice, and she recommended the most amazing flan dulce for dessert I've ever had. It was beyond good. Probably wouldn't go back as it's in an obscure location but we did not have a bad time."

  • "The staff not only did not understand the concept of checking people in with Open Table, but then when we were seated we waited for almost 30 minutes with our BYOB bottle of wine waiting for staff to come help us. Then they stated "Have you been helped?" as though perhaps we were looking for new athletic shoes. Clearly nobody on the staff has paid good money and attended a fine dining establishment where they should be taking notes on how it is done. Our waiter did not know how to pour a glass of wine without making a mess... Really? When we asked how long the restaurant had been open the waiter stated that for several years it was a dance studio and has been a restaurant now for a few months. Clueless much?"

The portions were extremely small for the price they charge, and they were out of some of the food that I really wanted to try that forced me to eat something I really did not wan to eat."

  • "Nice ambiance, but it didn't make up for the terrible service (we were there for 3 hours and this place is BYOB), horrible quality of meat (chewy, tough, and fatty), and lack of variety in the dishes. This place advertises itself as being South American cuisine, but I can honestly say everything we had was American with extra spice. Extremely overpriced for what we got and we honestly should have left after the appetizers. They try to fool you with their presentation of the food - which is excellent - but when they cheap out on quality and the taste is mediocre at best, you're left feeling duped."

  • "We went as a group of 4 during restaurant week, so some of this may be attributed to that. Our reservation was for 7:30. We were 5 mins late, and didn't get seated until after 8:30. I ordered off the regular menu, since it was pretty equivalent pricing to the restaurant week menu, and I'd seen the lamb chops come out while we were waiting and couldn't think of anything else. Lamb chops were very good. Could have used some sort of sauce to add flavour. The rest of the group got the skirt steak with guac and chimchurri sauce. I thought it was very delicious, but regardless of how you ordered the steak, it just came different variations of rare. I loved that, others not so much. Overall great atmosphere, good food, off-putting wait."

  • "The food was delicious! I ordered the empanadas and the entrana. The empanadas were all delicious! The ham and cheese were my favorite. The entrana was the skirt steak. It was delicious. The combination of steak, mashed potatoes and guacamole was amazing. The restaurant was also BYOB. This was awesome, it allowed us to bring whatever we wanted without worrying. There was also tango dancing during our meal. The entertainment was very enjoyable."

  • "The location is intriguing as is the food type, Argentine, but there were missteps along the way. Biggest problem was staffing- there wasn't enough and those there seemed a bit confused and anxious. Rule #1, at brunch you shouldn't have to ask repeatedly for coffee. They need to redesign service so everything is not so far away. Food was pretty good and the space was beautiful. I think there's promise if they can get the service and staffing issues straightened out."

  • "I came to ARTango with my boyfriend for NYE. There was a terrible snow storm that night so we were an hour late for our reservation. I called ahead to alert them of our tardiness and the woman who answered the phone was really nice and said they would still be able to accommodate us. When we arrived we were seated right away and greeted by our server. Our server was very kind and informative. We loved everything he recommended. The food was phenomenal. I had the duck and my boyfriend had the filet. We loved that this restaurant is BYOB as we were able to share a lovely cabernet out of our cellar with our dinner. The ambiance was really cool and I loved the tango music. We had fun at ARTango and we will be back!"

  • "Had a wonderful dinner on Dec. 26 with a group of seven, including two kids. Gracious and attentive service. Outstanding food. The ceviche appetizer dish was incredible, as was the duck confit entree. Attractive setting with tasteful decorations in an exposed-brick space with lots of windows. BYOB makes this a very economical option for a fancy night out! We will certainly be back - perhaps for the dinner & tango dancing on a Friday night!"
