Diner Reviews
  • "We had a MOST wonderful evening at Artango. Granted, we were motivated by having a Groupon - but will definitely return. First, it's very colorful with great music. Second, it's BYOB, Third, the staff was just tremendously helpful and friendly; not "overly attentive" but there for every need. We brought wine for dinner and a partial bottle of Pisco brandy for dessert, which they put on ice for us. Menu is very manageable and creative - great ceviche options to start - and to share. Small plates offerings were quite creative and, again, easy to share and plentiful although dubbed "small" and entrees covered the vegetarian/fish/poultry/beef/lamb gamut with terrific sides. We shared a dessert of limoncello gelato with our Pisco. Yes!"

  • "I live in the area & came upon ARTTango. My bf & I had dinner on a Friday night at 745-we had a reservation but it wasn't needed. The place was pleasantly crowded & we had our pick of outdoor or indoor seating & chose indoor so that we could see the interior. It's beautifully decorated & an intimate setting. The food was amazing & being BYOB was a huge bonus! We started with the empanadas which were more than enough for 2 people & delicious. We were then given salad which had an awesome dressing. Next, I had the entrana which came on top of mashed potatoes with a side of guacamole. My bf had the filet mignon in malbec sauce. Both entrees were outstanding. The service was also attentive but not overbearing. I highly recommend ARTtango!"

  • "Went with all the recommendations from the server. Cozy outdoor seating in a quiet section of Ravenswood with plenty of street parking available. Service was exceptional - very attentive and welcoming. Trio of ceviches (shrimp/mahi-mahi/tuna) is a nice starting point - esp. the mahi mahi in a passion fruit dressing is unusual and memorable. Empanadas were reasonably well executed. In the entree section the skirt steak is the star and surprisingly the duck is also very good. The chimichurri sauce was the only weak point in the whole experience. And don't forget this is a BYOB."

  • "EXCEPTIONAL VALUE! the room is charming,,,nice comforting woods...generous table spacing (good acoustics) and the food was wonderful...had that international feel perfectly expressed....and to me a wine lover...the BYOB saves so much!"

  • "A wonderfully beautiful place that carries a thematic ambiance of a small town in South America. A lovely experience to enjoy wonderfully crafted food and amazingly sweet desserts all while watching Tango!"

  • "The five of us expected an Argentinian ambiance but were surprised to find so imaginative a decor retaining a significant amount of loft elements reorganized and combined with added elements of surfaces and objects. The large space, not filled the Tuesday night we were there, allowed for a lively continuous Tango class. Participants joined and some dropped out over the several hours we were there. Fortunately our table was situated so we could watch from a bit of a distance but not be overwhelmed by the music and instruction: a nice floor show without being part of it. The menu was comprehensive and creative. We worked our way through a number of appetizers rather than single entrees so we could taste more of a variety of items"

  • "My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here, tarting with a nice bottle of wine (byob!) and empanadas. The beef empanadas were excellent--like I remember when I was a child in Chile. Next came soup for my friend and salad for me. He loved it, I thought it was okay. We both had beef dishes--both outstanding as you'd expect at a South American restaurant. No room for desert, but now I have a reason to go back. Two couples dancing the tango enhanced the experience."

  • "Great food - quirky atmosphere with sometime schedule tango lessions happening in part of the dining room. But, what was funny was they were silent. No tango music, and very wispered instruction. Kinda like Mime Tango dance lessions. Still quirky, but mybe better to just own it and tuirn on the tango music. Great Food! And you can skip the whole silent tango instruction thing by snaggin one of the outdoor tables."

  • "Better than Tengo Sur for reservations and ambiance. Easy free parking, they take reservations and there is live Tango dancing on Fridays. They apparently offer beginner, intermediate and advanced tango lessons on week nights as well. Awesome place and byob until they get their liquor license. No cork fee is a bonus too."

  • "Most of what we had was just ok. The best dish we had was the fried cheese which was very good. The empanadas were good but there was very little filling. Veered more toward vegetarian except the pasta with lamb shank. But even that was just ok. Could use some more flavor. Nice staff. The room is a cool old loft. Would be a great event space. Will go back to sit outside on the patio and try one of the meat entrees. "

  • "Great little looking gem in Ravenswood, but the service for brunch was sorely lacking. The four of us ordered the exact same thing... which was a egg benedict dish....took over 45 minutes to get.. and there was ONLY one other table with us at the time........Honestly,its just poached eggs, folks.....the rest of the stuff that goes with it can be easily prepared prior..... I can only respond about brunch. I have not had dinner or lunch here. Maybe service is faster with these."

  • "Michael our waitor was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, and never left our glass of water half full. The food was delicious and was comparable to other Argentina restaurants. They also take reservations, unlike Tango Sur, where you have to wait up to an hour for a table. The vegetable empanadas were amazingly good, as was the soup of the day (mushroom). The ribeye was very favorable and came with grilled asparagus and quinoa. The flourless chocolate cake was the perfect choice to end an amazing dinner. BEST PART: BYOB "

  • "A fantastic little hidden gem that I would highly recommend. The ambiance is intimate. The food is great. Parking is easy (and free). I love that some tango lessons were taking place during our dinner, and yet, it wasn't distracting. If anything, I think it added to the unique, romantic quality of the place. Check it out! "

  • "Disappointed with the experience; many negatives: AC was off - it was 80 degrees outside, thus waiters were sweating (assume the cooks were sweating as well), they ran out of desserts (left with one option), BYOB was not clear, waiters could not explain the menu, bathroom was smelly, they allow pets (I assume small pets, had a customer next to me with a puppy in her lap), pricey for the experience: 3 adults + 2 small kids, no alcohol or dessert ~ $230. Few positives: food was decent (not WOW!! though), waiters were courteous. Certainly not coming back."

  • "Our group of girls had a fantastic time fir dinner on a Friday night. The service was great. We were catching up and took forever to order and the waiter didn't rush us a bit and was attentive. The food was great and the atmosphere is really charming. I'd highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "The menu on the Open Table website is NOT the menu of food being served. What is actually available is better and a wider selection. Appetizers: Empanadas -- nice attention to combining foods/tastes and not overfried; Shrimp cakes -- super sauce. Meat dishes -- superb quality. It is not clear from the menu or the website or Open Table that this is BYOB. It's not a neighborhood you will like walking the two-three blocks to the bodega, so BEE WHY OH BEE"

  • "The pork arepas and peruvian steak dish were pretty solid, though the arepa itself was a bit bland. The service and ambiance were awesome; it was clean, we felt welcome, and we loved the music. I was in a group of 5 people, so we tried about half of the appetizers and then all had our own entrees. The food was underwhelming, to say the least. My wife ordered us the peruvian guacamole with plantain chips--what came was bagged tortilla chips and poorly mixed bland guacamole (couls have been store bought). Crab benedict was too fishy; french toast was thin and dry; and the Peruvian aji was flavorless. Fact of the matter is, I've had much better South American for way less money. I think we just paid for the ambience essentially. "

  • "This was our second visit for brunch, and as with the first time, Artango did not disappoint. The food was great, as was the service. A good selection of specials compliments the really well-prepared usual offerings. Highly recommend this seemingly undiscovered place. "

  • "First time patrons. The location has great *free* parking and the decor is pretty neat(nice artwork, brick walls, exposed beams, etc). Love that it's also BYOB with no corkage. Regarding our experience...it took FOREVER for a server to come to our table...almost to the point where I was going to ask, but I didn't want to cause issues. After that, he was a little more attentive(very pleasant, though), but still on a delay. Food was pretty good, but my $20 red pepper with a spoonful of quinoa seemed overpriced. Luckily we had a LivingSocial deal, so the price didn't sting as bad. I'd probably return for apps, dessert, and coffee. "

  • "We really wanted to like this place! We made a reservation for 7:30 and arrived on time. We waited 25 minutes for our table. Irritatingly, the hostess sat several tables that arrived after us before we were seated. The ceviche was ok. We also tried a proveleta appetizer which turned out to be a sort of South American queso. it was greasy & impossible to eat as it was a big hunk of stringy cheese.long wait for entrees. My husband ordered a t-bone med-rare and I ordered salmon, they looked nice but when we cut into them, both were raw. We asked for the waiter and when he finally arrived, he actually argued with us about their done-ness. We didn't have time for them to recook as by now time to pick up kids and upset over it. Never going back. "

  • "It was off to a bad start because it took at least 10 min. for someone to acknowledge even though there were only 3 other tables occupied. They put their own restrictions on the groupon we brought. Only could get a "pre fixe" consisting of 2 things. The other choice was to take $40 off the bill. We chose that option. The ensalada del Pulp had more potatoes than octopus which didn't make a $12 charge worth it. The empanadas were good. I liked the fact that there were 3 varieties to choose & they let you mix them. The paella was good. There was enough for two people to split which we did. "

  • "We went because we had a group on. Because it was for 4 and our party was smaller than that, they didn't want to allow us to use the value it was (bringing it down from 80 to 60). The hostess was rude and inattentive. The waiter was late with bringing some of our items and his colleague was better at taking care of us. This was our second attempt to try the place (we left before sitting the first time because the hostess would not accommodate our confusion regarding our expectations). The place continues open because the food is good. Everything else needs work"

  • "Delicious food in an elegant, rustic, artsy venue My filet came on top of blue mashed potatoes with roasted asparagus on the side. The salad was full of surprises like lima beans and corn. Everything was totally delicious."

  • "Food: Loved the perfect salad (it lived up to its name) and the arepas appetizer (delicious). Entrees were mixed. I loved (and will love to order again) the roast chicken (pollo a la brasa) but my partner's skirt steak in chimichuri was only average (I guess I expected much more). (Honestly, I think my skirt steak with chimichuri is better). The room is wonderful. Romantic lighting and nicely quiet to allow easy conversation. Background music is quiet and mellow and sexy and perfect with red wine. Which, by the way, is BYOB which makes this place a real bargain on top of it. It's a bit out of the way but that allows for really easy and abundant parking right in front. Go now before this places becomes popular and crowded."

  • "I think the oenophiles of Chicago should go here ASAP. It's the kind of place where you want to bring your better quality wines to complement an awesomely tasty meal (a fusion of foods from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Spain). I got the paella the first time and the salmon on my second visit. Dinner pals got lamb rib and chicken dishes, and we shared terrific seafood appetizers. The story on how the chefs are also the artists and the ease of parking on Ravenswood are pluses, as is the fact the tables are nicely spaced to allow private conversation with your dinner mates. Friendly, informed and authentic servers make it an altogether enjoyable experience."
