Art and SoulVery enjoyable LunchI always enjoy Art and Soul and did again during this visit. I enjoyed excellent service and a delicious meal. A little slow on settiling the bill but otherwise it was great. My table was right in the aisle so I felt like I needed to duck from time to time to avoid being hit by servers.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI know the restaurant wasI know the restaurant was busy but the service was incredibly slow! It took our waiter 15 minutes to even acknowledge we were there. It took almost and hour and 45 minutes to have lunch. We had to flag our waiter down to get drinks. Although the food was great most people dont have that much time for lunch.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner with a New YorkerWho loved A&S. In particular the softshelledcrabs. Lightly cornmealed and on a bed of pickled vegetables. I had the beet and feta salad. Nice. The deconstructed carrot cake was too cute and taste was not there really.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMNever DisappointsArt and Soul never disappoints. Great menu and great service. I will be back time and time again.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food, Great Service! The food is very good, well-prepared. The soft-shell crab is excellent, superbly fried, on top of a very interesting salad. A very unique combination. Shrimp and grits is a good dish, but I don't think it lives up to its hype. The special petite chicken is very tasty. Chocolate banana pudding is delicious. The best is our waitress Sarah. She is warm, friendly, and very helpful.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely dinner in DCHad perfect meal! Both chose different things. Absolutely fantastic!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGo whole hog or go home!Well, really I should write "pig", but all the same. After we found out that the chef roasts a whole pig each week to use in various dishes, we were sold. Everything was delicious, but the highlights were the Cajun Boudin Balls, the Crispy Pig Head, then meat board with the Lomo and Paté (both housemade) and topped off with the lightest, most vibrant Gulf Snapper imaginable! My husband had the Grass-fed NY Strip and loved every bite. We drank different wines by the glass, which made for perfect pairings and suited both of our palettes. By the way, all of this was sitting at the bar with Ron and Lee. They were both incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable! Outstanding, indeed!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great experienceFood was very fast. Ronald was on top of beverage service, keeping our drinks full the entire time. He makes a killer Mississippi Mule!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMNo DisappointmentsGreat food. Great service (Thanks Angelo). Great atmosphere. I had looked forward to visiting Art Smith's restaurant and was not disappointed. We started with the cheese and meat board that included a memorable pâté. I had the beet salad and my guest the wedge salad which were fresh and tasty. We each had the short ribs with marrow, which would be a repeat on another visit. Make this a must stop when in DC.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMVery PleasedOur experience at Art and Soul was great. The food was delicious. Make sure you try the cornbread. The only negative thing I can say is that it was not clear from the menu that the Chicken for 2 dinner was fried and after having the fried calamari and rock shrimp starter the amount of fried food became overwhelming. Overall it was a great place to spend our 10th anniversary and we will absolutely go back next time we are in DC.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMYum!I had the brown butter scallops with cabbage and carrots and it was D-elicious! Everything was so fresh and cooked to perfection. I also shared the bacon cornbread which was very yummy as well. The waiter was awesome and even brought us a free beer because they didn't want to waste it! Highly recommend.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic afternoon on the PatioTook my mom, sister, and daughter out for a late mother's day lunch. Karl was great and the dessert presentation Chef Mike made was very impressive. By far my favorite visit to Art & Soul yet.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorial Day MemoryOur experience was fantastic from a stop at the bar - with the BEST manhattan and mojito ever from a highly trained mixologist-even house made aromatics and bitters. He was really great. The service from our waitress Kenya was outstanding-she took the time to explain the concept and recommended items for s as well. The chicken was fantastic-but too much for us to eat and since we were travelling with no refrigeration it was sad to leave behind! The scallops were cooked perfectly and very tasty. My husband enjoyed the crispy bread pudding but don't expect a traditional pudding-fried and light more like a light donut. We took an order of baby cakes to go to the outdoorPBS concert.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMImpressiveI wanted to impress out-of-town folks (who come to Washington often) with someplace they did not know about. Every single dish was absolutely perfect. I had the snapper, one guest had the scallops, one the shortribs and I've forgotten the 4th. Each of us said when we come back again we will order the same thing again. The service was excellent. The ambiance allowed for easy conversation. My only criticism is the bare tables -- I know the decor is modern, but something is missing if there is no tablecloth.
I have eaten outside a couple of times in the past, and it is very pleasant. (It would not have been this evening since there were firetrucks and ambulances through much of the time we were inside.)
I recommend this to all.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSaturday BrunchThis is a perfect place for a great brunch before a day of sight seeing. The atmosphere is modern yet warm and the food is a delight to the tastebuds! Not your average, run of the mill brunch food!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMArt & WesChef Art, and Chef Wes have made this a DC must try. This is one of my regular stops for awesome food. I've never been disappointed by the food or the service. DC Has some great food, and Art and Soul is no different, but the service at Art & Soul in concert with the amazing menu will leave you craving more of Chef Smith and Morton's delicious offerings. The pork is amazing, and a steak from the kitchen here will never disappoint. Start with a charcuterie for the table, and any wine from the amazing selection. Whatever entree your order be sure to sample some of the amazing sides with it. The Collard Greens are freaking AMAZING!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu is true to its southernThe menu is true to its southern roots, with well executed dishes. Our server was well versed and pleasant, although could have been a bit more attentive in taking our order. I'd happily dine here again.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGem on The Hilllove the relaxed feel of this place - like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The salmon was amazing. The Mac & Cheese is a must as a side. If you are a wine lover check out the wine list. Great selection with reasonable pricing.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMLove Art & SoulImpeccable service with a very approachable and down-to-earth, yet foody menu. Highly recommend as a great place to dine, awesome ambiance, local color/Capitol Hill movers and shakers.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch spotI was impressed with the ambiance and food! The options were great and the service was impeccable. I would most certainly go back and definitely recommend this restaurant to others.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMmother's day brunchGreat place for brunch!!
The food was very tasty, wide selection and beautifully presented.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDad scores on Moms DayArt and Soul was the perfect brunch spot for the 5 of us. Our reservations were for 3 so the crowd was moderate but thinning. The wait was about 15min to be seated and thin it was on! Mom was happy and full. We all departed happier than an un-contested belief system...
Thanks Art and Soul!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe gift of the rice puddingThe gift of the rice pudding desert was lovely. My free range burger with an egg was delicious. Art would and should be proud. The patio is the best ever5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLet me start with "I'm Southern."Let me start with "I'm Southern." I tend to be very critical of southern food, and am usually not very find of any spins on southern food. With that said, I took my boyfriend here for his 25th birthday, and we chose the seafood gumbo for two. On first taste, I was concerned about the lack of spice and the darker rue. He noticed a small bowl of chili peppers on the side, which saved the day. It was genius. We were able to spice it up according to our own preferences. Loved! I would without a doubt go back!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways great! Always Consistent!I love Art and Soul. Great for special occasions. FRIED GREEN TOMATOES are the best
In DC... I tell everyone about them.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat more can I say?The food, the service, the ambiance... all excellent. I would definitely go again. The only slight issue I have are the prices. It's pricey but for that caliber of a restaurant, I pay for it.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFun - Upbeat and Good!enjoyed a lovely meal with very good service...however, we didn't like eating our dinner with dogs near our food...and do think
it is inappropriate at a lovely dining establishment and at a high end pricing restaurant...we should have to share our meal with
dogs anywhere near us...whether for breakfast, lunch or especially a wonderful dinner meal.
also, I would consider increasing the wine list for more moderate priced "good" wines...$17.00 per glass if not on a business
trip...is "expensive" and the other selections were "ordinary"!
inside, needs white tablecloths - needs something!
breakfast is fabulous - but also could use selections at a bit lower pricing.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food at Art and Soul wasThe food at Art and Soul was amazing, and the service was even better. We had a 1:00 reservation for Sunday brunch, and arrived over 30 minutes early but were still seated immediately. We also requested to be seated outdoors since we had our dog with us, and were accommodated very well - we were allowed to bring our dog into the outdoor seating area, and not just tie her up outside. We also noticed that we were not the only group doing this. The waitress also brought us a water dish and treats! Food arrived promptly, coffee and water were plentiful, and the restaurant was beautiful! Great experience!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for BrunchNice Sunday brunch for our mixed-age party with widely varying tastes in food. Everyone loved the scones!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing! TheThe food was amazing! The fried chicken dinner for two is to die for, and I very rarely will eat fried food. Definitely recommend this for dinner, i would just skip the appetizers, it is a ton of food! The bacon corn bread is amazing as well!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time for 3 of the 4First time for 3 of the 4 dining. All enjoyed the food very much.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMIf You Like Cornbread...Oh the things this chef does with corn meal! Loved the cornmeal-dusted catfish! My dining partner loved her cornbread with pork and bean soup. The food here is always outstanding -- and with the newly decorated dining room, this restaurant is even better than ever. It's a little noisy, because it's so popular, but it's proof that people are enjoying this dining gem. Oh, we shared a warm chocolate chip cookie for dessert. Wonderful!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat wine! The wine list had some especially good values and the server was very knowledgeable about the wines and pairings. The selection of house-cured pork was impressive. If you're looking for wine and charcuterie, this is a good choice.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service. TheGreat food and service. The recommendations were spot on. Menu items were accessible for both the part of our group that was afraid of trying bone marrow and a crispy pig head and those of us who wanted to because they were on the menu.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMworth itExcellent food. The chef really knows how to balance flavors. It's pricey but worth it if you're looking to splurge on some good eats.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent dinner with a southernexcellent dinner with a southern style. Good place for dinner before theater - easy to get to Arena in time for 8:00 show and have a relaxing meal beforehand4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Fresh FoodWas not quite sure as to what to expect because reviews were not very favorable. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the freshness of the food, the presentation, as well as the great service! I recommend Art and Soul and would definitely will return in the near future!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThey recently changed theThey recently changed the decor and the menu, and it all looks good, but the staples of good upscale Southern remains. I work near Art & Soul and it makes a great work lunch spot.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were pleasantly surprisedWe were pleasantly surprised by the "Southern food". The service was great and we loved the sides---corn bread, mac and cheese, grits...and some of the best scallops I have ever had. We ate outside for dinner and then had lunch inside the next day. The quiche and burger were great.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding service by ourOutstanding service by our waiter, who even rustled up a generous slice of cornbread for an order that does not include cornbread! The fried chicken and mac & cheese are unbelievably -- and consistently -- delicious. A great lunch!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the guest discoveredOne of the guest discovered a foreign object in the gumbo. Although the wait staff removed from bill, the manager or chef did not seem concerned and had she swallowed this could have been a medical problem.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIf it's sunny, sit outside!Everyone was knocked out by the food; outdoor table on a brilliant April day; great, attentive service but wasn't in the way (this was a working lunch). Would absolutely bring out-of-towners here again.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMHad extraordinary service.Had extraordinary service. Our server, Raphael (spelling) was really great, knowledgable of the menu and very attentive. Will definitely come back again and request him as our server.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMStaff was very accomodatingStaff was very accomodating when members of our party were running late, and the food was delicious!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is the third or fourthThis is the third or fourth time I have eaten at Art and Soul over the past several years. It is a treat every time. There is always something new and fantastic on the menu; the food is always prepared and served beautifully. I have taken several work colleagues for quasi-business dinner, and even the New Yorkers have been impressed. I look forward to my next visit.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMCame by for a second visitCame by for a second visit to celebrate my friend's birthday, she had a great time So, I had one too, Thank you!!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was exceptional! The service was exceptional! The calamari/shrimp/okra starter was really good. The bacon/scallion cornbread;fabulous!! We ordered one to go. My cousin ordered a trio of pork (don't recall the actual entree name), but it had a spicy sausage, pork medallion, and a third type that I did not get to try because my cousin ate it too fast. I ordered the scallops over some kind of cabbage that blew my mind! Scallops were juicy and crispy. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed with the dessert. We ordered the Baby Cakes, which is a sampler of five mini cupcakes, all of which were very dry. I did not like any of them.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was spectacular. ServiceFood was spectacular. Service was very attentive, professional and friendly. Couldn't have hoped for better. Price very reasonable.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA little loud and dark, butA little loud and dark, but delicious food and fantastic service!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent atmosphere, veryExcellent atmosphere, very good food, although my Duck Pot was incredibly salty and I could not finish it.
