The entire menu is worth ordering - but careful not to over-indulge! The portions are generous and very well prepared. My wife who is vegetarian is also pleased. Grandma had the Chicken a la Romana and Mom had the Salmon ala Brace. They could not stop raving about the food. Service was a bit slower than normal, but I attribute that to it being Mother's Day. Service was still attentive and very polite.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Gem of La PalmaIve been coming to A'Roma for over 20 years and the food and service has just gotten better and better. It's a great spot for a first date or to get together with family. You know that the service is good when they are still checking to see if you need anything else when the bill is already paid. Water glasses are refilled all the way until the time you get up to leave. Most places totally abandon you after the bill comes. I think that is tacky and discourteous. A little cold water goes a long way toward our perception of the staff at the end of the night. We started with one waiter, who promptly left us after we said we wanted an extra minute to look over the menu. He never returned, so I had to grab another waiter to take our order. This waiter looked to be handling the entire room. I had to track him down numerous times to get our bill, extra silverware, etc. The food, however, was delivered to the table in a timely manner. A band was playing in the bar and was a bit too loud for conversation in the dining room.
My husband and I love this restaurant, but the service is a bit sketchy. Host was very pleasant, but service was not the best at the table. I was meeting a client for lunch so decided to sit down at the table to wait. NOT one person that passed by asked if I wanted anything. A glass of wine or bread would have been nice as my client was 1/2 hour late. When she arrived, waiter came over & spit out the specials and walked away, not even a breathe for me to ask a question or order appetizers. When he came back took our orders, I specifically said, we want to start off with the Calamaris. Salad came, than followed our food. NO calamaris. :o( I didn't bother to ask for them as the meal was plenty. If you haven't tried A'roma, you need to immediately. Tonight, there was incredible entertainment in the bar. We enjoyed a 'smart cocktail' and listened to some pretty incredible guitar music from a talented chap. Then we moved into the dining area. Our waiter, Barin, was the consummate professional, and I decided to have one of the nightly specials. My date, had some of the old world pasta that this restaurant is famous for. Incredible is all I can say. Aroma's of course and it was very impressive as always. Barron (I believe that's his name) served us and explained the nightly specials - did an excellent job. Everything was tempting, and the appetizer selection was the best. Tonight, I had the opportunity to dine in this outstanding establishment. A cute party was next to us and it was really nice to see a great group - nice roses and a stuffed bear. But, the restaurant itself is really something you find in Manhattan or Downtown Chicago. Its classy interior adds to the excellent food. The pasta is to die for and the nightly specials come highly recommended. Barron our waiter was the consummate professional. It was apparent this man worked at his craft in the European market.
Don't hesitate, go here and enjoy the incredible food and fantastic food and dessert selections. We walked over and were greeted warmly by the hostess. We were seated in a waiter by the name of Barin's section. My wife and I are originally from San Francisco and the service and food was better then some of the best Italian restaurants in North Beach. Everything from the bread to the included salads complemented the main course. I am going to tell all my friends about this place. Our food dishes nicely prepared and with just the right ingredients. The remodeled restaurant is a marvel and the beautiful decor adds to the fine food and service.
