A word from Aroma Kitchen & Winebar
Join us at Aroma Kitchen & Winebar, a sultry East Village Italian restaurant and wine bar that focuses on pairing delicious market-fresh food with superior quality wines. Our intent is to let our guests expand their taste horizons and indulge in hand-picked indigenous wines in a setting that is as intimate as it is relaxed.
Vito, our Chef and Owner, is from the southern Italy (Basilicata) and has a passion for food and wine that is surpassed only by his love of eating and drinking and his desire to share his experiences. At Aroma Kitchen & Winebar, he showcases modern and regional Italian dishes. Guests come for our authentic meatballs (his mother's recipe), tender, charred Portuguese octopus, and above all, for the signature, homemade pastas like strascinati, busiate, and pici toscani, among other plates.
Two private, secluded dining rooms in the wine cellar are available for private parties.

Diner Reviews
  • "I thought the food was mediocre,at best.We were kept along time waiting for our food. The main level is a small space and it was very loud.I would return."

  • "Great place to have dinner before or after theater - opens early closes late"

  • "The ambiance is cozy and comfortable, your family's chic flat in Rome that you've never been to;) The food is executed perfectly without being too fussy; just fresh, quality ingredients speaking for themselves. And the wine list - always meticulously chosen and divine."

  • "Average food for the price range. Ambience was nice but will most likely will not return unless I'm in the neighborhood."

  • "The food is prepared exceedingly well, the service is excellent. This is a great restaurant."

  • "I had read a review where someone else complained about the table they were given, and I disregarded it. However we were seated at a table that was opposite a door that led to the outside. It was freezing every time the door opened - which was A LOT. The table was also right in the door way so every waiter had to pass us to get to any table. It was distracting and left a really bad taste in my mouth - I don't even remember the service or the food."

  • "On a snowy evening, we were treated to a wonderful meal at Aroma Kitchen & Winebar. You enter Aroma through the comfortable bar area at the front, and proceed to a cosy room with fireplace and exposed brick walls. Complementary olives, bread and olive oil were the best I have ever had. The olives ('brined' on site) had a deliciously subtle flavour. The olive oil was the purest I've tasted in a restaurant setting. The feather-light bread was perfect for dipping. The stacked, warm beet salad had a lovely kick to it (the cheese element) and the black pasta with seafood was light yet very flavourful. The service was very personable, helpful and attentive. It felt more like we were having dinner with friends and that made our evening!!"

  • "The food was delicious. The service was attentive 100 % of the evening. We felt as though we were in a friends home."

  • "Party of ten in the separate downstairs dining area. Nice surrounding though small--waitress was very attentive and the food was very good. Try the Aperitivo--it was worth the extra $15.00--the 3 flight of wines were very good."

  • "We loved the ambiance (narrow roooms, wood floors, old white brick). It felt like we were eating at someone's (very classy) house in part because the waitstaff (a young man from Southern Italy) was charming and welcoming without being intrusive. The whole place had a wonderfully friendly, neighborhood vibe even though people seemed to come from all over. Go early if you'd like to get a table. Both the winebar and the back restaurant started filling up quite a bit beginning at 7 and definitely by 8. The food was good but not knock-your-socks off fabulous. At least what I had. Grapefruit with octopus just didn't hang together. Seemed kind of arbitrary. However, the pasta dish with merguez was delicious. I'd go again and choose better."

  • "From the staff to the food to the ambience, Aroma Kitchen wafts warmth and coziness. Our visit with filled with a fresh mozarella, basil and prosciutto salad and ended with hand made gnocchi. Yum! The wine list is plentiful with staff knowledgeable in Italian regional wines and growers. Feel like you are sharing a bottle in your friends home with a visit to Aroma Kitchen."

  • "I've been going to Aroma for the last four years. Every single time, the restaurant delivers. Probably the most delicious Italian food you can find in all of Manhattan, considering it's price and it's personal touch. Whether it's for a special occasion, or a casual dinner and glass of wine, it's easily my go-to place. It's hard to find a reliable spot that you can refer to friends or go to yourself, but Aroma is certainly that place for me."

  • "We could not stop ooohing over the visuals… cosy, fireplace, book shelves, not crowded. Lovely. Our waiter was amazing. The warm beet appetizer was beyond delicious. Pasta dishes were great. All in all a terrific dining experience."

  • "Vito is excellent at choosing the wine, food, and making us feel like we left East 4th, and are now in Italy!"

  • "We ate here prior to seeing a show at the public theater. The meal was wonderful and service was excellent. Decor is adorable. Such a cute, special hole in the wall spot. We will be going back soon."

  • "I needed a last minute reservation for 7 people and ended up booking randomly through OpenTable. I had never been here before and was happy we went. Staff was great and so was the food!"

  • "First time there, quite random choice. What a terrific surprise -- this is a terrific retaurant, with the four of us all totally and delightedly surprised by the every element. Food was excellent, better than very good (and perhaps not as outstanding as I gave it, more like 4+ stars); the atmosphere was pitch perfect. Blown away,. Beware: very small, only a handful of tables."
    Dined on 12/10/2013
  • "The short-ribs were tough and dry. All the other things we had were outstanding. Also for a place that calls itself a winebar, they had only two glasses of a wine that was offered by the glass. The room is very pleasant. Aroma is a great place to meet and talk. For a NY restaurant it's pleasantly quiet."

  • "We were led down a nasty underground passage and seated in a dank room with no ambiance instead of the main dining room. Food was mediocre. My fish had to be sent back as it was under cooked. Didn't get it back until everyone else at our table was finished."

  • "It was special! Our family liked every aspect of our dining experience including the olive oil and olives"

  • "My friend and I had early dinner here. The place is not big but the decoration is really nice. I think the food is OK. But my friend said the food is both tasty and good-looking. The only problem is the restaurant is maybe a little cold. All in all, it is a nice and romantic place to have dinner in. Recommend."

  • "My husband and I had date night here with another couple. We all tried several different wines and non of them disappointed. The wines by the glass pricing was great too. The menu has a nice amount of variety. The black linguine with seafood was amazing and even better yet was their beet salad tower. The main course were wonderful. We opted for dessert wine instead of dessert. I would highly recommend this restaurant for the food and the wine."

  • "Good half-bottles of wine and tasty food- conveniently close to the Public Theatre"

  • "Good food, friendly service. We sat outside, which was great, but they only have one table. Interesting Italian wines. Not a bargain."
    Dined on 9/19/2013
  • "Aroma is always enjoyable; the space is attractive and cozy, the wine list superb--although many bottles are beyond my price range, you can find some luscious wines in the $50 range if you hunt carefully. Food is well-executed, but not the most interesting in town. However, for a neighborhood spot, it fits the bill beautifully and is a welcoming and adult osteria, especially for grabbing a glass of wine (or tow) at the bar during apertivo."

  • "Excellent food and a really cool tour of lesser known Italian wines. The seating is tight and funky and the service is good but not great. I will be going again and again."
