Diner Reviews
  • "Every time we return to Argyle, we are once again impressed with the quality of the wait staff, the ambiance and the very high quality of the food. Every dish is beautifully prepared and served and the steaks are among the best anywhere. As good as the many steakhouses in San Diego are, Argyle takes it to a whole other level. Add a very good wine list and service that is attentive but not intrusive and you have a first rate dining experience."

  • "Another fabulous dining experience! We loved the special menu in honor of the LPGA. The strawberry gazpacho was delicious. Definitely my go to restaurant in Carlsbad"

  • "I live in Carlsbad and am always looking for a hidden gem to take my wife to. We had a night away from the kids and were staying at the Aviara Hotel. I booked this restaurant based on the price and the fact that is was located at such a nice hotel. We arrived and noticed that we were sitting in a banquet style room, no table cloth, no ambiance what so ever. The food was "good" but WAY overpriced. I wish I would have read a review or two before so that I could have stayed away. The food was not terrible but for $200 it was VERY disappointing. If it had been $100 I would have been disappointed. We really felt like we were sitting in wedding reception instead of a steak house."

  • "We were pleased with the setting, and our waiter was excellent, which more than made up the fact that we had to ask for napkins, bread, and a knife. We had looked up the lunch menu and had decided what we wanted, only to find that the menu on-line must represent week-day fare. The Sunday lunch menu was a bit ...strange. My husband had an egg-white "frittata", which consisted of egg white fried into a flat disk with Brussels Sprouts on top, with a few dabs of cheese. As my husband is from Rome, this did not meet his expectations of a frittata. My chicken enchiladas were light and just enough - I was very glad I had chosen to forego my choice of two eggs on top of the enchiladas, as the dish is normally served. That seemed a bit odd as well"

  • "Took my mom there for her birthday, and it was great. I've had steaks there before and there awesome! I decided to try their house burger this time. It was cooked perfectly to order and tasted amazing. We sat at the bar, and was so glad we did. The bartender Susy was great. Really knew her wines, had a great personality and overall just fun to talk to. My mom really loved her birthday dinner there. We will definitely be back."

  • "have only eaten here once on a business trip. I felt it was a pleasant, comfortable restaurant in an upscale, golf course setting. The service was friendly which we enjoyed. The food was good, not great, but also fairly priced. If I lived close by I would be a regular."

  • "the food was good, but the restaurant was dead. The ambiance was just ok.... There are more pleasant places out there."

  • "This is a high end eatery with high end pricing, but you can't beat the food or the ambiance. Service was excellent."

  • "The purpose of my dining experience at Argyle was in celebration of my best friend's birthday. She flew in from the freezing cold Philadelphia so deciding to eat outdoors in the beautiful San Diego sun was a gift in itself for her. A total of 6 of us were present for this celebration and it was the first time for all of us to eat at this restaurant. We all ordered something different on the menu and each individual loved their brunch. We all shared the Wagyu hotdog (as an appetizer) as well as all of the dessert selections. The food was amazing, the scenery was beautiful and it was just an excellent dining experience. The only bad part of the experience was that the service was poor. It appeared that our server forgot about us."

  • "I had a great experience at Argyle Steakhouse, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. Service was perfect—not over the top, but we felt well cared for by the entire staff. Food was magnificent—best meal out I've had in a very long time. Hold on to that chef, Argyle, he/she is a real gem. The ambiance was nice, and about what you'd expect at a country club. All in all, I can't wait to return and explore more of the menu. I was surprised that there was only one grass-fed beef option on the menu (this is the primary reason I chose this restaurant), but the cut I had was tender, tasty, and cooked perfectly. Thanks also for having a gluten-free menu!"

  • "The selection on the menu was very nice for a steakhouse. I had the grass fed tenderloin it was very tender and flavorful. I thought it was nice that they had healthy selections on the kids menu that were also delicious. My daughter had the salmon and loved it. The service was attentive but not intrusive. I would recommend this restaurant."

  • "This place is a top 5 steakhouse is all do San Diego. True Japanese Wagyu (A5) meat. It's like eating high level Toro sashimi. It's pricey, but well worth it. Good eating!!! They make great cocktails also!"

  • "My issues with Argyle are, first, I think the menu is quite limited. For example, the only choice for a Rib-Eye is a 18oz. Bone-in. Second I thought the prices were high and the quality not in keeping with the prices. Third, I'm always put off when a steak house incorrectly cooks a steak. Med-rare came out of the kitchen a lovely shade of blue. That, of course, requires the steak to go back to the kitchen for more cooking and nothing good happens to the steak from there. They offer "crusts" which are really more like toppings; they have nothing to do with being crusted onto the meat. I would strongly urge someone looking for a steak house to look further and elsewhere."

  • "This was the first time I had ever taken our family out to dinner on Christmas, so I wanted it to be special. Prior to selecting the Argyle, I read the reviews and for the most part they were positive. Let me just say, everybody is still talking about wonderful everything was. The service, the drinks and the food were fantastic. I am certain I will dine there again."

  • "Argyle Steakhouse on the Park Hyatt Aviara Property overlooking the golf course was excellent. Service, food quality and staff were pleasant and most helpful. Our waitress Sara was outstanding!!"

  • "Odd experience. Delicious food and lovely ambiance but extremely slow service. After seating it took 30 min to take our drink orders & we had to ask for menus. It took another 45 min. to get appetizers and a horrendous 2 hours to get our entrees! The room was only 1/2 full. I don't know if the problem was the kitchen or the service. We left after 3 1/2 hours and didn't order dessert or coffee because it was so late."

  • "We go to the Argyle every year with my senior parents and their even more senior friends. The menu is delicious and quite varied for all palates, tastes and dietary restrictions. The staff is very accommodating, kind, and knowledgeable about food and wine. We will continue to be in the dining room every year with my parents for the holidays. They said they would like to bump it up to two times a year! My husband and I also have wine and dinner in the bar area 4-5 times a year and love the menu."

  • "We enjoyed our meal at Argyle. My sirloin steak was touted by our waiter as very lean, so i was disappointed to have a one inch piece of fat on my 5 ounce portion. My husband didn't like that the sides were supposed to be for 2 people, when in fact, it was enough for one hungry diner. Our dessert was supposed to be chocolate layer cake, but we got a molten lava cake, which was very good, but not what i expected. We went to Argyle the next day for breakfast and it was outstanding."

  • "We had a wonderful meal at Argyle and were so happy we decided to go back after not being there in a very long time. The food was outstanding and the service excellent! Everything from start to finish went beyond our expectations. We have been so disappointed in many of the North County Restaurants, but Argyle did not disappoint. We will definitely return!"

  • "This is a promotion celebration and the whole experience contributed greatly to the feastivity. The wait staff was excellent: attentive, but never intrusive. Our meals were beautifully prepared and garnished with tasty sauces and "crusts". The piping hot popovers that cam before the meal were wonderful. The aged meat was as flavorful as I can recall. It is rare to find an entire table of people raving about every detail of their meal. This was that kind of occasion."

  • "We are local to the area and forgot about this restaurant for a while. Tried it again after many years and it would unfortunately be quite a few years before coming back. The service was just fine, and the food is Very Good Steakhouse type food. It's just that the ambience lacks somehow. Can't quite put my finger on it, but you feel like you are eating in a hotel banquet facility. It's really too bad, because it seems that they are really trying with Service and food."

  • "Booked this while on vacation for thanksgiving dinner, service was great and the food was truly amazing. Everyone in my group raved about the quality of the food, even my kids loved all of it and they are very picky eaters. Price is a bit high in comparison to similar places but for me the quality of the food made up for it."

  • "The first time my mother and I dined at Argyle a few yrs ago it was one of the best food dining experiences we've ever had in San Diego. So this year for Thanksgiving we were excited to make reservations for the two of us again expecting the same if not better dining experience ~Not the case~ The service was fine but the restaurant was beyond bland in ambiance with zero table appeal. No flowers or candles and no table cloths! Between the two of us we ordered the turkey plate special and filet mignon. Both arrived at the table cold to lukewarm, the presentation was horrible in unattractive individual black cast iron dishes which should have kept the food hot but did not and frankly the flavors were less than ordinary for $215.00 shameful ~"

  • "We took our two kids (ages 11 and 13) with us to dinner. They have a decent kids menu, but our kids wanted things off the main menu and they were nice about that. The food was really good - the steaks were cooked as we ordered them and were very good quality. The seafood appetizers we had were terrific. Desserts were also varied and good. They also have a decent wine list. Overall, a very good experience."

  • "Not many people know about the Argyle and that in and of it self is sad. The food is GREAT, and the menu choices are even better since the last time I was there. They use local fresh ingredients and our server Blaine was fantastic as always. I can't say enough good things about this place, and I hope all steakhouse lovers have an opportunity to visit here soon!"

  • "Went to lunch for a family occasion and was thoroughly impressed with the food, wait staff and the restaurant so much that we asked for the general manager and expressed our satisfaction. The food was uniquely prepared and had a tough decision on which item to choose. Everyone had something different and everyone agreed it was fantastic! HIGHLY recommend for an upscale lunch."

  • "While staying at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, this is a very nice choice for dinner in restaurant or drinks/snacks in the bar. Ambiance is top-notch. Service is, too, as at all the Park. Wine list is small, and except for a dearth of French wines (even for California), well composed. Steaks were very good, but at any price, I've had better quality elsewhere (Harry Caray's in Chicago). At Argyle, the dry-aged Ribeye had excellent flavor, but much of the connective tissue in the meat had not broken down as you would expect with a proper dry-aging. I suppose I should have asked "how long?" when ordering. I would not pay the higher cost for the dry-age. Overall the restaurant is very good, but not great."
