I had been to Area 31 twice since it opened, but not in the last year, because my recollection was that the service was a little amateurish. I decided to try it again for dinner last weekend, and went with my wife and two other couples. We had a drink in the outside terrace and were overwhelmed by the views and amazing setting that Area 31 has. Once we sat down to eat, after a longer than expected wait, we found that (1) none of the first five wines we ordered from their wine list were available, and (2) they committed the mortal sin of partially serving the table, forcing everyone to wait several minutes for the balance of the dishes to be served. This happened with appetizers as well as the entrees. The food was actually of high quality, tasty, and creative. It is a shame that the actual dining experience was so poor because of the lack of coordination between the kitchen and the wait staff.

We decided to visit Area 31 on a recommendation from a new friend while in Nicaragua. Settling into our table high above the Miami nightlife, we quickly understood where this recommendation came from. The food was delicious, the attention from waitstaff and management alike was akin to family, and dessert was to die for!

So many restaurants in Miami are glitz with very little substance and bad service. The food at Area 31 was phenomenal. The grilled swordfish was the best I've had in a long time! Their can cake rivals the one at Trulucks. The tuna crude was topnotch and great service!

I came to Area 31 because of the emphasis on locally, sustainable sourced seafood. They also partner with local growers for the produce. The menu had inventive combinations and it all looked delicious. Great cocktails too. The service was very attentive. My friend asked for a recommendation for vegetarian options, and the server offered to have the chef create something that fit her tastes. The kitchen made an error on her dish, but the server noticed immediately, apologized, and took it back to the kitchen to have it corrected. Mistakes happen, but I really appreciate servers who are that attentive. All the food was delicious. It is a little noisy and we sometimes had difficulty hearing each other, but overall a great experience!

The restaurant's focus is sustainable seafood from local fishing regions and really fresh produce from local farms. We started with the grouper ceviche that was out of this world. It was so fresh with a ton of flavor from the fennel and tarragon leaves. The server told us about the pork and scallop wontons and also recommended the grilled octopus. We ordered both and they were fantastic. Octopus is served at so many restaurants, but the way it was prepared left it super tender with a light char. A roasted baby chicken sounded too good to pass up. It was gorgeous- served simply on a wood board with flavorful fall vegetables and au jus. Beyond great food and service, the views are amazing! It's a classy restaurant.

The seafood was fantastically fresh and wonderfully prepared, which is what you should go for at this seafood oriented restaurant. The kitchen was very slow however, but that may have been a fluke caused by a very large party that appeared to be seated before us; the waiter also seemed surprised at how slow it was operating. The vistas are also one of a kind in Miami. The dish sizes were described as modest by the waiter; they were certainly on the modest side of modest.

This was my first time coming to this restaurant and it was fabulous!!!!! The waiters were extremely nice and kind. The view (even though we sat inside) was awesome. Our waiter told us we could go outside and take pictures while we waited for our meal and it was just the best. I have told all my friends that this is the #1 place to go. Great food/ambience and scenic view. We received complimentary champagne for my birthday which was a pleasant suprise. I am looking forward to coming back.

My boyfriend and I live in Virginia and were looking for a cool and hip place to have a quiet and romantic dinner. The food and service were awesome, I just wish we were seated at the back and not by the bar, it was very loud and we could barely even speak to each other. We actually had to get up and have a drink outside before the meal came to have a quiet conversation. Great if you like loud bar scene dinners.

My wife and I attended Area 31 for our 4 year anniversary. We both love seafood but since I've moved to Florida I haven't found a good seafood restaurant, well, our search has ended, Area 31 offers the most exquisite seafood cuisine. The food, view and service were beyond all expectations, our server David was incredibly knowledgeable and most importantly welcoming, warm and super friendly. He made us feel like we were old friends. We definitely will be back to Area 31, we consider it our new hot spot!

The restaurant itself is open and modern looking. Service was great. The waiter was always checking to make sure everything was fine. We had the goat cheese salad and scallops as appetitzers which were good. My wife had the seafood rissoto which she said was excellent and I had the swordfish which was good. The Decoy merlot wine was excellent as always. There is an outside seating area but with the rain we were unable to sit there. Finding the entrance to the hotel was challenging.

From start to finish, the service was lousy. Food was ok—nothing special, but OK. But the service was slow, and they didn't care. After a half hour of waiting for our order (eggs and a sandwich, for brunch), we asked for some bread to tide us over. They said no, they don't serve bread. We had been there before, sometimes scheduling breakfasts in their beautiful private room. We won't be doing that again.

I decided to take my wife out for a nice evening on the town. Unfortunately, we choose to have dinner at Area 31. The experienced started pleasantly with a friendly waiter, the ordering of a couple of drinks and some appetizers. After that it was all downhill. Our waiter disappeared and apparently never entered our dinner order. After almost 2 hours of waiting we were able to track him and a manager down to see what was up. Neither one gave us an explanation and indicated that the food would be out in the next 5 minutes. 30 minutes later we had no food and decided to cut our losses and leave. The manager did comp our appetizers but we paid for our bottle of wine. Not worth the hassle. Better choices exist

No other restaurant in Miami can match Area 31 for the gorgeous view. The food was excellent..we had the lump crab cake appetizer and seared snapper mains. Both done perfectly. But there was something missing from our many previous visits. I think the service lacked a certain "polish" we used to expect. While our server was friendly and helpful, the total service experience just wasn't what it used to be. They no longer bring bread and choice of toppings to the table. They no longer have American decaf coffee. Espresso was served BEFORE dessert. Our desserts were not served together. The bill was presented with dessert...without being requested. Maybe we wouldn't have noticed these little things if not for our many other perfect visits.

Had a chance to grab lunch at Area 31 during Miami Spice with some colleagues. To start, we had the Snapper Tirrado and Grouper Ceviche! The snapper was amazingly fresh and delicious. For the main courses, we had the Grouper Burger, Wild Grains, and Chicken. The burger was phenomenal, and the chicken as well. The grains were good but we're just missing something. And the desserts, we had the key Lime tart, our favorite, passion fruit and Mango panacota, and the crunch!

My husband and I ate at Area 31 early on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was empty, so we decided to go outside on the patio. We ended up eating dinner at the bar outside and had a great experience. Our bartender/server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We shared a crab cake appetizer (huge!), one entrée and a side dish and that was plenty. The swordfish was excellent! Good wine list. The view of the city and Biscayne Bay is beautiful and you can enjoy a drink or bite to eat on one of their couches if you'd like to fully appreciate the scenery. There is also the pool right next to the bar so you also have the view. Overall, we had a great dinner and we will be back. Really love Kimpton hotels!

We went for lunch during Miami Spice and it was not very busy. The food was good, appetizers were better than entrees. The grouper ceviche was really great, as was the kale and quinoa salad and the gazpacho, which was unique. We all had grouper sandwiches and they were ok - they kind of tasted like grouper mixed with canned salmon. The fries were excellent. The desserts were small, but good and fine for lunch. There were two negatives. Firstly, each course took forever. It is difficult to imagine what the service would be like if they were busy. This was compounded by a 25 minute wait to get our car. Despite the line of people, they didn't move with any sense of urgency and this made us not want to do this again especially for lunch.

The decor of the restaurant was really nicely done, it was very chic. But I dine for the food and it was just OK. The price for the quality and quantity was not up to my expectations. I wanted to try out Area 31 because a friend had gone for drinks and he had fun. I later asked him and he only had drinks so he didn't try the food. I ordered from the Miami Spice menu. I had the gazpacho it was the best part of the meal. I had the swordfish, it came with potatoes and corn. The swordfish was nicely done but it was very small and the potatoes and corn didn't really do the trick of bringing the dish together. The dessert was not good at all. It just tasted like chocolate, nothing original.

The best surprise was the incredible downtown view. If we hadn't sat outside I would have still been pleased but the ambiance outside was great even on an August midday. Under the spacious umbrellas the temperature was lovely. Our meal took a little longer than I would have expected but when it came, it was worth the wait. Fresh ingredients, well-balanced. Our server also made the suuggestion of the strawberry basil mimosa. So good I'll make it at home.

And the food is worst, we asked for tiradito, the worst ever, the fish was awful the quality was really bad, and then a chicken so dry and with any flavor. We sat at the terrace and suddenly some ice came from the sky, it hurt me. In resume it can't be worst.
