A word from Ardeo + Bardeo
Ardeo+Bardeo, located in the historic district of Cleveland Park -- four miles from the White House -- is a neighborhood favorite serving modern American cuisine. The restaurant underwent a major renovation in November 2010 to enhance the modern bistro and wine bar, uniting the two restaurants with a 24-seat island bar. Executive Chef Nate Garyantes has crafted a menu which features cured meats, soups and salads, savory snacks, seasonal vegetables dishes and brick oven baked flatbreads. Ardeo+Bardeo has become a virtual “Who’s Who” of Washington. Those who frequent include Madeleine Albright, Jim Lehrer, Alan Greenspan and the former first family, the Clintons. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I may be dreaming, but I recall that Bardeo was a bar that served simply prepared, good food, while adjacent Ardeo was an upscale restaurant serving" new American cuisine" on tablecloths. If so, everything has changed. There is a bar in Ardeo too now, the chef prepares "new Italian cuisine," both spaces seem to receive the same food service, and there are no tablecloths. The result is a good neighborhood restaurant, with a short decent wine list and drinks that aren't exorbitantly priced, but ambience that rates no better than fair. (My dinner companion asked me why the man at the next table was shouting. I think he thought he was riding the subway.) This time the menu was rife with tomatoes, too much of a good thing in my view."

  • "My husband and I had the Halibut it was delicious. I think this would be a good place to stop before the movie. We were done in less than an hour 3 course meal. I am not a fast eater. They had lighter choices so would not be stuffed watching the movie. I had the living social coupon choices were limited but the meal was very good. My husband would have liked more choices. We would have preferred a more leisurely dinner."

  • "All three of us had the all tomato menu and enjoyed it. I had the peekytoe crab and tomato salad, which was good but did not have much crab in it. The other two had the watermelon and tomato gazpacho and it was different than I expected, smooth like a true Spanish gazpacho and delicious. We all had the halibut and cleaned our plates. The tomato sorbet was a treat, also. One friend who works in Bali for a high end resort was taking a picture of the menu to show the chef there!"

  • "Came with a group of friends for pizza and burgers. They really have one of the best burgers in town!"

  • "Great food and atmosphere - waitress was a little too attentive (not the worst problem to have). Great girls night!"

  • "bottomless brunch was great - good price and amazing food - what's more is that unlike so many other hot brunch spots in DC, it didn't feel overcrowded and somehow wasn't loud."

  • "We had a group of 8 for brunch and our server Matthew was amazing! He kept the champagne flowing for our bottomless mimosas and champagne throughout. We all ordered something different from the brunch menu and it all was delicious!"

  • "Our experience with Ardeo was terrific. We had very severe and complicated food allergies in our party. We notified the restaurant ahead of time and they were completely prepared for us including the chef, maitre'd and our waiter. The chef concocted seasonings which were delicious and which strictly avoided all of the allergies. Everyone was very gracious for which we were very appreciative. Anyone with food allergies (including Gluten Intolerance) can feel secure that this is a safe place to dine. Bottom line: Really good food, very nice personnel in a pleasant environment"

  • "Stared off with an awesome cheese selection. Cocktails and vino were excellent. Dinner was burgers, trout and halibut. All were great with excellent flavors. Service as always was Tops!"

  • "We enjoyed the July 2014 Tomato Tasting menu. Highlights were the tomato + buratta salad, halibut with vegetable ragu, and cheese plate. For $39 per person it was on the expensive side, but worth the money. I would also suggest the wine pairing."

  • "My friends and I are going to one restaurant per month for each letter of the alphabet. Since we are on letter "A" we went to Ardeo to try their bottomless brunch. The brunch special comes with bottomless mimosas or champagne, an app and entree. The restaurant was not that crowded for a Saturday so our flutes continued to stay full with mimosas! Our waitress was super friendly and helped me plan getting two desserts to celebrate two friends for a belated birthday and new job! My only two issues were that some of the apps were way bigger than the entrees and my chorizo hash barely had any chorizo in it. Other than that it was good."

  • "I went on a Friday for an early dinner, and there were only a few diners. We ordered the 3-course seasonal menu which happened to be tomato based. This menu is very limited and offers only two options in each category. However, it worked fine for us. We both ordered the salad appetizer which had an assortment of greens and a tasty dressy. For the entree, I had pasta with a spicy tomato sauce and my husband had the halibut. I loved my pasta (which had no meat that I could detect) and my husband loved his halibut. For dessert, I had the cheese plate and my husband had cake. You can add wine pairings to this menu for a very reasonable price. I have no complaints about this place at all, and I plan to return soon. See you there!"

  • "I tried the Tomato Tasting Menu and everything was so delicious. The salad and halibut were outstanding. I am not eating sugar, so I gave the dessert to my husband and he enjoyed it. The restaurant is quite cool, so take a sweater."

  • "Went out for a birthday dinner for a small group. Ambiance, service and food were great. Brussels sprouts were a great hit!"

  • "We dined on a Saturday night and the place was nearly empty. We had reservations for 7:00 and were seated promptly. We were given water and bread and then we waited 15 minutes before the waiter arrived. We selected the Tomato Tasting menu and accompanying wine selections. Both the Gazpacho and Tomato salad were excellent. We finished the appetizers and waited for our waiter. Finally, we got our Halibut entrées and they were deliciously prepared, the fish was perfectly cooked. Another server checked to see if everything was alright but we didn't see our waiter. We both got the Cheese Plate for dessert. The tomato jam was the star. As we finished the dessert, our waiter brought the check. Could have been a 5 star meal with better service."

  • "We had a good time last weekend though there were a few hiccups. The food was very good, beautifully presented. Ravioli had good flavors and halibut was prepared perfectly. Desserts and coffee were delicious. Our cocktails were very good though the did take longer than usual. The wine list looked nice but was puzzling. They were out of a quite a few wines by the bottle, including a few sauvignon blancs we were interested in, and the wine list looked sparse in a few categories. A manager apologetically stopped by to help us make some selections and she was very nice and knowledgeable and provided us with nice alternatives. Our server was also great. Friendly with a great attitude. Overall, very good food and service, try ripple for wine..."

  • "Recently enjoyed a lovely summer meal and chose the three course fixed menu which was pleasantly surprising with the freshest vegetables and halibut cooked to perfection. Ambiance and wait staff were very attentive and overall a very pleasant dining experience."

  • "We had the 3 course fixed-price special tomato-featured menu. Food and service were excellent. Great menu and the food matched it. Venue was quite quiet, apparently more so than usual as it was the July 4th weekend."

  • "This is by far the best brunch in DC. Great service and excellent food at an outstanding price. The fact they serve bottomless mimosas is a cherry on the perfection cake."

  • "Really unusual food pairings and unique cocktails. A foodie's paradise! Not a huge menu, but always interesting. This was our second visit. Delicious starters, salads and entrees."

  • "Hadn't been here in awhile. Went July 3rd so not crowded. Appetizers were disappointing, but main courses and a side were great! I ordered the grilled octopus small plate. There were so many other strong flavors on the plate, I couldn't taste the octopus at all. My companion had the salt cod fritters, which were very heavy and dense. Dipping sauce was excellent. Main courses, black pasta with a pulled pork ragu and baked meatballs with polenta and a small green salad, were excellent. Interesting spices with a little heat. Shared a delicious side of green and yellow patty pan squash and tomato that was fresh and lively. We were too full for dessert, unfortunately. Great by the glass wine list, loved that half glasses were offered!"

  • "Met a friend for brunch. The menu was diverse and interesting, the food enjoyable and the service outstanding. Best of all, we were allowed to sit and visit as long as we liked."

  • "I made a reservation for the rooftop terrace on my birthday and arrived on time to find my table had been given away. My party waited for an hour at the bar and was charged about $30 for my 2 drinks before we gave up and took another table downstairs. The 4 of us ordered different appetizers and entrees and shared. I'll say the pallete is very eccentric . It's a nice looking restaurant and besides the hostess who unapologetically gave away our table, the service was good but I still don't plan to return to Ardeo + Bardeo."

  • "Four of us came here on a Saturday for brunch. We made reservations ahead of time and were sat immediately. It took a little while for the waitress to initially stop by, but the bottomless mimosas were steady flowing in after we had ordered. Each of us got the brunch deal, which consisted of an appetizer, entree, and bottomless mimosas for $28. It was a great deal and we all enjoyed our deviled eggs, Brussel sprouts, huevos rancherous, pork and grits, and BLT."

  • "Some friends suggested the restaurant and I was very disappointed had Brussels as an appetizer, they were good not the best and the scallops were ok too..."

  • "The asparagus soup was refreshing and thoughtful combination, but the squash and tomato was bland without much character. My dinner companion said pea salad looked better than it tasted. This was my first time at the restaurant, but based on general menu and quality of food, probably would not go back. However, the wait staff was excellent -- helpful and considerate and prompt."

  • "On a recent Saturday, I booked brunch for a party of 6 the next day. By the time we arrived, we'd added one more, but the staff was happy to accommodate us. Shortly into the brunch, due to a mis-communication, two additional friends arrived, bringing our total to a party of 9. This required the staff to reseat us as a larger table which luckily was still available. They were very kind as they did so and we were grateful. What followed was two hours of delicious food, good times, some of the best brunch coffee I've had in a while. We've been there before and will definitely be back after they made a potentially unfortunate situation so much better."

  • "Great find. Terrific menu. Something for everyone. All Loved the Brussels sprout dish. Even those who aren't vegetable fans. Specialty drinks were noteworthy and refreshing. Went early due to 2 kids in the party. Had a booth in a corner and all went well."

  • "Lovely Saturday brunch at Ardeo+Bardeo. We went with two of the salad options on this visit, the pea shoots with 63 egg and the farro/black eye pea salad; both delicious! A side of bacon and we were too full to consider dessert, but next time we will leave some room..."

  • "For $28, you get bottomless mimosas, an appetizer and an entree. With entrees pricing between $15-$20, you're definitely getting more than you paid for at this meal. The food itself is excellent and if you like brussel sprouts, I highly recommend the crispy brussel sprouts as an appetizer, which are served with pistachios and feta, a pairing that I wouldn't have thought to do, but adds texture to the vegetable. And if you really like bottomless brunch, Ardeo + Bardeo makes a strong mimosa. Our server kept returning to our table so that we never saw the bottom of our glasses. I plan to go back."

  • "We ate on the rooftop and had a great view of the sunset. The food is artistically plated. The cold asparagus soup was a beautiful pale green with crab and served with real flair. Service was a little slow but not bad. The waiter was knowledgeable about the wine. The papardelle were very well-prepared with a meat ragu. They have huge scallops and ravioli, served on small rectangular plates. There were young children also eating on the terrace but they fit right in. I recommend the rooftop for summer weather. The restaurant is also close to the Cleveland Park Metro stop on the Red line. The street is fairly lively with quite a few other restaurants and sidewalk tables."

  • "We had a reservation but decided to sit at the bar for dinner. We were warmly greeted by the bartender, Kelly. She made fabulous recommendations! The Brussels sprouts were delicious, as was the black pasta carbonara. Kelly insisted that we save room for dessert...The doughnuts are a must! We shared everything and had fun chatting with other patrons and staff. This is a must stop for locals and visitors. "
