A word from Ardeo + Bardeo
Ardeo+Bardeo, located in the historic district of Cleveland Park -- four miles from the White House -- is a neighborhood favorite serving modern American cuisine. The restaurant underwent a major renovation in November 2010 to enhance the modern bistro and wine bar, uniting the two restaurants with a 24-seat island bar. Executive Chef Nate Garyantes has crafted a menu which features cured meats, soups and salads, savory snacks, seasonal vegetables dishes and brick oven baked flatbreads. Ardeo+Bardeo has become a virtual “Who’s Who” of Washington. Those who frequent include Madeleine Albright, Jim Lehrer, Alan Greenspan and the former first family, the Clintons. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Parents enjoyed the burger and green garlic potato soup. Sister liked the artic char with salmon roe and foamed (mashed, but runny) potatoes. Kale pesto gnocchi was delicious-very light and not dense. Spicy salad was not too spicy, just really good flavor. Wine comes by the glass, half bottle, and bottle. Cocktail menu had an interesting selection. Dessert was peanut butter bar: chocolate cake, peanut butter whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, and ganache. Not too peanut butter-y; very subtle flavor. As restaurant filled up it got noisier. Valet parking available and can be added to your bill. Overall, staff friendly and a nice, fairly laid back place to enjoy a meal."

  • "Ardeo + Bardeo never disappoints. The food is consistently delicious, the service is nearly always perfect, and it is difficult to complain about the amble cocktail, wine, and spirit menu. Our party tried several new dishes on the menu, including the fabulously hearty meatballs with sugo and polenta, and could find nothing to complain about. The brussells sprouts were a particular highlight for all! Another lovely evening at a neighborhood gem."

  • "Bardeo & Ardeo does a very good job, particularly with fish. My dining partner and I had excellent meals, great service and a very enoyable experience."

  • "Great brunch -- innovative, delicious. Good time with friends and family."

  • "I can see why the Washingtonian listed this in the top 100 restaurants in DC. The food was great, as were the drinks. I think our server was new, so he didn't quite know what he was doing. The manager seemed very conscious of that, and came to check on us and make sure everything was ok. All in all, I'd say this was a lovely find and is a solid place to go for a very nice meal."

  • "Everything we ordered was excellent. The braised brussel sprouts was very imaginatively Prepared. With dates, feta etc. we also tried their chocolate martinis. They were good too"

  • "They've added a few delicious dishes to the nearly unchanged menu. Great food and nice service."

  • "What a deal for Sunday brunch -- $28 for either mimosa or champagne (free refills), and then a choice of appetizer and entre. The food is delicious. Had the roasted brussel sprouts and the char. Can't say enough about how delicious the food was, or how attentive the staff was, or how nice the ambience was. The noise can be a little loud, but that is a trifling matter..."

  • "The meal at Ardeo Bardeo is always great. They no longer had the pizza that I have been craving for the last 6 months, but overall great food and unique combinations not usually seen."

  • "Food is always good here, but the noise level the last time was really high, perhaps because a private party had taken over the bar area. Also, the lighting is a bit strange. We were at first seated at a table where a strong halogen shone directly into my eyes. They were unable to dim it or turn it. They did give us another table."

  • "Always changing the menu and the addition of the Cod fish is great. Great flavors. The other guest had pizza and burgers. One of the best burgers in DC. Great Service."

  • "We have a lovely meal! Our server was not very attentive but the food was very tasty."

  • "The food was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The appetizers and dessert were very good, while the entrees were just good (nothing special). Also, while the server was amiable and polite, he took a very long time to take our orders. Furthermore, the bus boy seemed to be on crack, slamming glasses down on the table after filling them with water, grabbing all the silverware frantically, not leaving any to use, and making my fellow diners anxious. But, overall, I would go back to try some more items on the menu, as well as, brunch, which I've heard is excellent."

  • "I was won over to Ardeo by the brussel sprouts, as have been many friends. The new recipe does not cut it. I actually did not like them nor did my dining mate. Small portion and poorly done. Please bring back the old recipe. Small bites are a great draw and good way to serve drinks. Waitress was super - saving grace. Desert was also very good."

  • "We were disappointed by the quality of food. The Brussels sprouts were a bit too soggy, and the beet salad was bland--tasted like something I could make at home. The pasta was perhaps their strongest showing. Overall, we were very underwhelmed."

  • "The dinner menu was fun and still had those little tweaks from the traditional. However, it was as though an element or two were missing to really make the flavors marry well and pop. The burgers were made to order, and the handcut papparadelle was nice. The bolognese was tasty, just not WOW. Go for brunch, and you'll see how capable the chef is."

  • "Great meal. Started with drinks from Jeremy at the bar. He knows how to make the drinks. Cod fritters were the starter. Excellent choice. Dinner were burgers, and cod dish. Very good picks. Gotta love Aredo's!"

  • "We consider ourselves regulars here, even though we live over 1/2 hour away. The food is always very tasty and innovative. The staff is very personable. Matthew, our server, is new to Ardeo + Bardeo, but he was very friendly and informative. We look forward to the warmer weather in order to enjoy the outside dining area."

  • "No complaints and personable service, but overall a very average experience. No "wow" factors but did not leave disappointed. The bar was packed and had great energy, a good option for grabbing a bite and drink with friends in the Cleveland area."

  • "Fabulous, fabulous mussels appetizer (the fennel, olive, tomato-based broth and size of serving, easily split by two) was to die for….; our fish dishes were outstanding; (however, we suggested to the chef that a small yukon potatoes pairing with the cod was not a favorite…(potatoes just don't gel with the fish); the Char and spinach etc. were fantastic….we would definitely visit again. We were seated in the bar area, which might have been more quiet, if there wasn't a celebration (engagement party?) going on….but, we still enjoyed the evening, immensely."

  • "We took my mom out for birthday brunch and had a wonderful time the food was great (as were the very reasonably priced mimosas!) and our waitress went out of her way to make the experience Special for my mom. When we left we were already making plans to come back."

  • "What a treat. Imaginative food preparation, excellent service in the midst of a busy evening, good wine list with knowledgable server and all at a reasonable price. Both shrimp and grits and whole fish were outstanding and friends had steak prepared to their delight."

  • "I've been here a number of times with out of town friends and it is always a great hit. We could easily talk among ourselves without raising our voices, a rare treat in Washington today. The flavors of each item we had were just excellent. The black pasta was a standout, as was the boneless trout, with good sized portions that took more than 3 or 4 bites to eat -- another increasingly rare pleasure in top-flight restaurants. The smaller plates we're also chock full of flavor and texture. Somehow the chef has combined the best elements of modern American cuisine. Servers were knowledgeable and alert and excellent professionals."

  • "Very good food made better by impeccable service. After a long, tough day we decided to stop by Ardeo & Bardeo for dinner, a first for us. From the time we arrived to the time our bill was presented we were treated impeccably. Since we had not dined at A&B we asked our friendly and spot on server for suggestions - cheese plate, roasted brussels sprouts and shrimp and grits accompanied by a nice bottle of wine. The cheese plate was delicious and the brussels sprouts were out of this world. The shrimp and grits were good but the tasty sauce was somewhat dampened by the slightly mealy shrimp and a short serving of grits. All in all we rate this establishment high across the board, and we will be back."

  • "Delicious food and outstanding service. Our server recommended a great bottle of wine that was delicious with our meals, as well as some really good appetizers. The poutine was fantastic!"

  • "I had the shrimp and grits and it was very good, but there was more sauce than grits, so it seemed a little heavy in that sense, and really not much food. Otherwise is was tasty. I had a nice malbec (bottle) which was delicious. My dining partner had the black linguine, which was also good but the pulled pork made it kind of made it like something that you might put together if you had a lot of ingredients left over. All in all, nice neighborhood restaurant but not sure if I'd go back unless I lived there."

  • "Brought friends here and was embarrassed by the quality of the food. Last time I was here it was terrific. My shrimp and grits was mostly topped with shrimp heads/shells and the 4 or 5 shrimp that I found to eat were totally mushy. My husband said the hamburger was second rate at best. I was surprised that a restaurant I have been to many times over the years had such poor quality food and we won't be back."

  • "I really like Ardeo+Bardeo. It’s the definition of neighborhood gem – it’s never too crowded, it isn’t exceedingly expensive, it has wonderful décor and ambience, good wine/beer selection and (usually) great food. Unfortunately, this visit fell a bit short on the latter. I had the Brussels sprouts -- which I always have – and they were amazing as usual. However, the black spaghetti “carbonara” with pork ragu was very disappointing. The pork was a weird mix of gamey and salty that, and I don’t mean to be too crude, brought to mind the aroma of cat food. I'm sorry, but it was truly terrible. I took most of it home and couldn’t even eat it after."

  • "I live in Cleveland Park and am embarrassed to admit that I had not previously been to Ardeo for dinner, just brunch. Our dinner was outstanding. Good options for vegetarians, too. We'll be back."

  • "This was my third time to ardeo/bardeo and it has been consistently good each time. We tried some of the vegetables on the menu including brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes. These are not two of my usual favorite things but they were both excellent. They were brought out as a kind of appetizer which was a little different but it worked. All was prepared with interesting ingredients and very good."

  • "Unlimited champagnge (or mimosa) brunch was excellent. Food was delicious! Appetizer and entree was nicely portioned; we weren't overly stuffed at the end of the meal which was nice for a change. Our waiter was more than generous with the drinks."

  • "I hadn't been to this restaurant in several yeas and I have to say I was disappointed. The food was mediocre at best. I got the chicken potpie ($21)which had very little chicken in it. My date got a steak and she was satisfied with her selection. On the bright side, I really enjoyed the octopus small plate/appetizer. The wine list was better than average. All in all, it was your typical DC eating experience: very expensive with limited quality. DCs restaurants just don't compare with San Francisco, New York or even Philadelphia. I guess they rely on tourists. Very disappointed, again."

  • "I have to say I was absolutely blown away by this brunch spot. My friend and I had an amazing time. From the great service, to the great food, it really was wonderful. The prix-fixe menu was a delicious steal at 27/per INCLUDING bottomless, and they mean bottomless, mimosa's. My suggestion, Everyone who goes there must try the Poutine (OMG in your mouth), and the squash creme brulee (again, OMG in your mouth)... I can't wait to go back, and take some friends with us next time."

  • "Wonderful time at Ardeo Bardeo. Started off with some cocktails at the bar - the Kiss me Kate and 50 Shades of Grey were wonderful and by far the best drinks I've had in DC thus far. For dinner we had the brussel sprouts and chickpeas for apps and then I had the braised veal parpadelle. It was an excellent meal. The play on coffee and donuts for dessert was really fun and tasted great. I didn't think I was going to be able to eat 3 donuts and when they were gone I was very sad!"

  • "Our salads and fish dishes were well prepared and interesting, with generous portion-size, and service was cheerful. Noise level is very high...good for the restaurant, maybe, but not conversation -- so not for everyone."

  • "I've been to this restaurant many times, the food is always good. Portions are a little small but still the taste makes up for it. Drink list is great as usual, I'd say sophisticated enough to be worth the price. Ambience is great, really nice decor, and great service."
