Diner Reviews
  • "We had an excellent meal. Service was very attentive and timely."

  • "I took my mom for her birthday because they had a lobster roll on their menu, not realizing that it was mixed with tartar sauce (she likes things plain). The waitress said they could not just put plain lobster in a roll. So we got her the turkey burger plain, but it arrived with cheese, so we sent it back and switched to the angus burger. That ended up being delicious. My lobster roll was so-so, and my sister's rib-eye cheesesteak was very dry and not very good. The waitress did not come to check on us once during the meal though she was friendly when she finally brought the check. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone - though the burger was quite good. The only plus was that it wasn't crowded."

  • "Came here for lunch on a Sunday. The place was pretty empty. The service was pretty good, but that might be related to how busy it was. We had the tuna tartare, the rib eye (cheese steak) sandwich and the marg pizza. The best item was the tuna. Think ahi poke, but different. The sandwich was a little cool and the meat was slightly over cooked. I did enjoy the fries. Not quite truffle fries, but better than your average fry. The pizza crust was soggy. So why 3 stars? Well the venue is nice, the service was nice, and I've been told that the they do much better with dinner. The pricing was about as expected for being in DTSJ. Note, they do not validate if you park underground in the same building. They will only validate if you valet."

  • "We were expecting our food to be delicious (it's Arcadia, for Pete's sake!), but we were most pleasantly surprised that our server, Robert, displayed exemplary customer service skills and attentiveness. Lovely place for dinning, all around!"

  • "Our family had an excellent dining experience at Arcadia. The first time we went there (about a year ago), it was very good. Happily, it held up to our recollection of it. The steaks were flavorful (though one was a touch undercooked), my rack of lamb was extremely tender and tasty, the scallops in a sweet green curry were light and delicious, and the tuna tartare was both chilled and spiced perfectly. As always the complimentary duck fries were tasty (nice twist on bread), and my husband said that the tiramisu was a standout. The only non-interesting dish was the beef tartare. It was presented nicely, but the taste was bland. Our server, Ash, was extremely attentive, yet he didn't insinuate himself in our dinner. All good."

  • "A couple of friends and I wanted to have a nice dinner with good wine and classy ambiance for ladies night. We started off beautifully with attentive service, but we ended up waiting for our entrees 30 minutes after we finished our appetizers. The restaurant had business pitches taking place in the booths surrounding us. At the end we were overcharged with an error to our bill. The server blamed the sommelier. We each ended up paying about 100 for salad, steak and wine with sides. Overall, we felt like the environment felt more like an upscale airport lobby bar with a business edge. The food was cooked well and the flavors were balanced. This critique is for service, inflated prices, and the business feeling of our experience."

  • "The wagyu hanger steak was phenomenal! So was the truffle Mac and Cheese!! The brussel sprouts were way over fried though. They tasted burnt and had a really dry texture. When we told our server he said that's how they are and didn't take them off the bill. Amazing service besides. Very attentive and gave us a special birthday dessert. Will definitely be going back for more hanger and Mac! Just avoid the Brussels."

  • "Aracadia is a nice place to dine providing one has lots of time to wait. The service was slow, same as snail. Once it arrived, the service was fine. The noise travelled from TANQ- a dance place next door."

  • "Our dinner at Arcadia on Saturday evening was a relaxing and great experience. All the staff is welcoming, but not intrusive. The food is fresh and well-prepared. Our lobster cocktail was so sweet and fresh. My only suggestion is to review the statement that diner's are given 2 hours validated parking , but does not specify it must be Marriot' s valet. This is confusing ."

  • "Tasty food with good choices from appetizer, salads, soups, main course to dessert. Only complaint was there was too much time/slow between courses. Otherwise staff was all very nice, friendly and explained menu well. Overall a very good experience and we'd go again to experience the food and ambiance."

  • "It is not cheap to be different, that's for sure. ARCADIA is a different kind of restaurant. It has the ambiance of a bar but often used for romantic night out. How does that turn out? The restaurant is extremely noisy. It is often difficult to hear the person sitting on the other side of the table. The table arrangements are poor and there are often people walking by the tables, looking at your food or checking out the girls at the table. The services of the staff are good, but only if you can get the attention of one of them. And they don't really know the menu all that well so don't ask them for recommendations. The highlight of the night was probably the french fries that came as complementary appetizer. It has good dips!"

  • "WHEN WE FEEL WE WANT A GREAT MEAL AT A NICE RESTAURANT, ARCADIA ALWAYS COMES TO THE TOP OF OUR LIST OF FAVORITES. WE LIKE THE FOOD, LOCATION AND ATMOSPHERE."

  • "The food is very good (I'm not sure that there's any steak worth the prices, but if you love steak enough to pay $50 a plate, go for it), the cocktails are excellent, and the service is attentive even on busy weekends. The lighting and ambiance is a little pretentious, but if you like clubs in San Jose, you'll like the bar. Thankfully the restaurant is not as clubby as the bar, but it is still pretty loud. Great for a mixed party where some people like clubs and some don't - those of us who don't can focus on the excellent wine selection and tasty dessert menu."

  • "Although the food and service were solid, I felt like there was little value for what we we got. There are many other restaurants in the area where if you spend $140 for two (who shared one entree) that you will have a better overall experience. It felt like an overpriced hotel restaurant."

  • "Entertained some colleagues for breakfast. Buffett appeared popular but we ordered off menu. Eggs Benedict were decent but diner style hash potatoes seemed out classed. Good attentive service. Food's pricy but considering quality, location and service - not a ripoff."

  • "One of the best hotel restaurants I've ever been to, and in a Marriott no less! Up there in quality with any well rated independent restaurant. Go for the pork belly and Waygu, and make a night of it. Our only issues was pacing was bit off for us to hit a show after, and the server asked while we were seated if we were going to a show, just allow time."

  • "I would characterize Arcadia as a hit or miss. My girlfriend had the beef tartare as an appetizer which she found to be very good; a hit. For the main course my girlfriend had the grilled sturgeon which was prepared well but had a strong fishy taste; a miss. I had the Kurobuta pork chop which was good, but not much better than I have had at other restaurants. We finished the meal by sharing an order of beignets which came with Macalla caramel custard. The custard added a nice taste but the beignets were a bit hard as if they were prepared much earlier in the day. The service was prompt and courteous, the ambience nice, but not worth the price for the food."

  • "Food: The food was outstanding. The scallops were huge and melted in your mouth. The steak was incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked as a medium rare. The mushroom side dish was unlike any other mushroom dish I have tasted. Service: Table service was great. Went to the lounge area after dinner (due to poor seating), and had to wait forever at the bar. Then they screwed up the drink, and fixed it by bringing out a tonic bottle and filling the glass right in front of us. Tacky. Seating: The two-top tables were set way too close, with one of the seats on this long convex curved bench, so I was looking at my dinner date as well as the gentleman at the next table over the whole meal. Ackward. The food would have brought me back, but..."

  • "My adult granddaughter and I went to Arcadia before the Sting/Paul Simon concert in San Jose on Feb. 17. The service was excellent and the food outstanding. Even if you do not like Brussel Sprouts, order them and have everyone try a bite. My granddaughter ordered a fish dish and I the filet. Both were perfect. The service was attentive without being intrusive."

  • "Took a group of clients out to dinner here due to their proximity to the SAP Center. We were all very impressed with the food (even the dairy-free vegetarian was impressed) from the appetizers to salads to entrees! But the best part was the wine list and their 50% discount. The Sommelier helped us pick a fantastic Bordeaux and Napa Cab to do a comparison to kick dinner off right, and then a beautiful bottle from Napa to serve with the steaks. Great service all around!"

  • "Awesome service. The waiter was very tentative, but not overwhelming, super friendly and warming. The atmosphere was great very warming and friendly. You have enough personal space to have a intimate conversation with your significant other if you need to. Food was served hot (Just how i like it) and in an orderly fashion. I NEVER HAD TO ASK FOR MORE WATER!. First restaurant where i didn't have to hunt down my waiter to ask for more water. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone whose planning a birthday dinner, anniversary, or just a romantic dinner get away from home."

  • "The food and service was absolutely wonderful. My cowboy ribeye steak was perfectly cooked to my specifications, and my boyfriend's prime filet just melted in his mouth because of how tender it was. Our server was so attentive that my water glass never fell below half full. The crispy brussels sprouts were fresh and flavorful and not at all bitter like some brussels sprouts tend to be. I also had the wood roasted bone marrow. The marrow was plentiful and served at a perfect temperature. My boyfriend and I shared the pea soup as an appetizer, and the waiter was kind enough to have it served in two bowls for us. Overall, the meal was delicious and the service was top notch. I would certainly recommend it."

  • "I was in San Jose for a convention and was looking for a nice place to take a client. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our waiter was friendly and attentive but gave us a nice leisurely paced meal. We lucked out that it was 50% off wine on Mondays and the wine selection was terrific. If I ever mind my way back in the area, I will be sure to come back again."

  • "We all enjoyed a wonderful lunch - fried chicken was moist and had a brioche bun. The grilled cheese with brie, manchego and pepper bacon was fabulous - especially with the roasted tomato bisque topped with truffle oil. Will return for that when I need a amped up comfort meal. Service was very poor though."

  • "You can get some of Michael Mina's best known signature dishes and treats here: Lobster Corn Dogs, Lobster Pot Pie, Tuna Tartare. Nice ambiance, great service, and food that never disappoints. Simple Skirt Steak is so tender and flavorful and goes well with the Chimichurri Sauce. We also always enjoy the Buzzard Bay Scallops -- perfectly seared and juicy, served with crisp belly pork chunks and an assortment of vegetables including fresh peas. Love the Wild Salmon with light but fragrant Green Curry sauce, and the Black Cod with daikon for a very light but tasty fish option. Feeling indulgent?...then definitely try the Lobster Pot Pie -- a whole lobster baked in a cast iron pot with phyllo crust in a light, creamy sherry sauce."

  • "Reservations for 5:30...no menus for 5 more minutes...then at 6pm tables on either side of us were seated although many other available tables. Tuna Tartare was the highlight of the night...mac and cheese did not live up to the hype, mashed potatoes bland, black cod and steak were ok, desserts were nothing special molten cake dry and barely warm and apple tartlet was soggy and not hot...portions were small for the price...the biggest surprise was the bill was delivered to us and a credit card was presented...card and receipt came back with an additional $42. added to the bill...we assumed that was the gratuity, but that was more than 20% no explanation was given and the waiter did not return for us to ask...we left and will NEVER return."

  • "Arcadia is my go-to place for entertaining clients, friends, family. The food is consistently outstanding. The wines pair well. The ambiance is open yet quiet so that one can have an in-depth conversation. The service is top notch. I can count on a wonderful experience each time I go, which is especially important for business entertaining."

  • "We have eaten at Arcadia several times and the food is always good. The meats are always perfectly prepared and the sides are simple comfort food. The fries served in place of bread are delicious and a welcome treat. I have also always loved the different cocktail options. My favorite is the Peach Jalepeno Press-certainly worth a try. That said, our service was really mediocre. Drinks took forever to arrive. We had to ask to have plates cleared. No one asked how our meal was. We were served the wrong side, took a long time to bring the correct one. 2nd drinks were served in brandy snifters. Overall, this is an expensive place-perhaps they should have more seasoned help and inventory the bar? I would eat here again, different server."

  • "A group of four of us went to Arcadia on a Saturday night and had a really enjoyable experience. We started with the grilled cheese & tomato bisque fondue and duck spring rolls, both of which were delicious! I'd highly recommend both. Having had the steak at Arcadia our last visit, my date and I switched things up and shared one of the specials- the fried chicken for two. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed; it was kind of dry and lacked flavor. The side of truffle mac and cheese was a good portion and tasted great though. I would definitely return but will stick with steak next time."

  • "Took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner and had an excellent experience. Service was top notch and food was great. Was seated at a booth as I requested on open table and free birthday dessert was presented to my girl friend. I couldn't have asked for a better place to take her to."

  • "Fell below the other Michael Mina restaurants I've eaten in. Well below. I wouldn't call this a steak restaurant. Broad menu will give everyone a safe choice, but nothing was outstanding. Steaks were small considering price and in comparison to similar "premium" steak places in the Valley/San Jose area. Apps were better than mains I thought. Maybe go and order apps? That's the best I can give it. (Had dinner, restaurant also does breakfast and lunch which I didn't try.)"

  • "Unfortunately was extremely underwhelmed with the quality of the food (several appetizers served cold) and our steaks were medium instead of medium rare. Several waitresses had bathed in perfume, setting off my co-workers asthma on several occasions, even after requesting a different waitress. Will definitely not be returning."

  • "The food was really good and i would definitely return for that.. However the waiter brought the check and left it on the table about 10 minutes after bringing our food, long before we were finished eating. The restaurant had tons of available tables, so its not like he needed to encourage turnover of the table. We would have liked coffee and maybe desert, but he never bothered to ask if we wanted anything more. Other than that this was a great place for lunch and i would like to go back for dinner."

  • "We enjoyed the Fixed Prix New Years Eve menu featuring Dungeness Crab Salad, Cauliflower Soup, Crispy Pork Belly and Prime Filet sauce au poivre. We choose the wine paring and the sommelier's choices were excellent. Most notable was the 2011 Bergstrom Pinot Noir Cumberland Reverve from the Willamette Valley and the 2007 Chateau Vignot Saint-Emilion. All in all an excellent meal. We're always impressed with Michael Mina's restaurants. Cheers, Richard"

  • "Food was very good. Very rich and very unusual. Order the lpbsdtr pot i.e. and it came with the whole lobster body in it/ Quite unusual. Most of the items on their menu appear to be that way. While we enjoyed it, we're not sure if we will return. Service was excellent."

  • "We chose Arcadia for a holiday meal with older relatives, as the restaurants in our neighborhood of Willow Glen are LOUD. Arcadia offers quiet dining with downtown views, and exquisitely prepared cuisine. The table service is expert, which makes the whole experience a pleasure. If you're looking for more of a "scene", they also have a festive bar called Tanq with unique and delicious cocktails. It's all good."
