I have never had to send an item back to the kitchen. But I had to do that here - twice! The exact same omelet came out of the kitchen both times - nothing like what I had ordered! I think the server was having an off day and perhaps the experience will be better another time. My breakfast was comped by the manager and I think that shows that they are trying - but beware if your breakfast looks like nothing that you actually ordered!

  • 5th Year Anniversary

I went to this restaurant during my anniversary with my boyfriend and in the special request box I asked them to share this special moment with me. They went over and gave us "Happy Anniversary" chocolates which I thought was really cute. My boyfriend had scallops and I had halibut. The scallops were 5.5/5. The halibut wasn't as good but I'd give 4/5. There weren't a lot of people which made for a quieter setting. But I liked that more as it felt more like I could concentrate on what was going on on my table. And as for the service, it was outstanding. How do they find those people!! Very friendly and attentive. Will go there again one day.

I have been to Herons twice before, and I know that I won't be disappointed, so I took my best friend there for her birthday dinner. Not only were the staff extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the food they serve, the food tastes fresh and amazing! The dining room is airy and gives you a sense of serenity, and the view is beautiful! Our server celebrated my friend's birthday by giving her some chocolate that are made in-house. Overall, I know why I chose this restaurant and why I would want to go back again!

Great food, atmosphere and server was very warm, friendly and treated our 91 uncle so politely and even brought 2 bottles of wine for him to sample each. I've never seen that before. She was attentive without being condescending or overbearing, checking in unobtrusively. We stayed a long time and never felt rushed. A very enjoyable experience, thanks in great part to her outstanding service. The food was also delicious, very well prepared and presented and not too much of it. I will be back!

Server was knowledgeable on drinks and foods - probably a foodie herself. Food had clean presentation, flavours mixed well. Not many people when we went at 6. The tenderloin was medium rare as ordered, mash was smooth and buttery, the mushroom was a bit hard to eat with the steak. Bites with steak, mash, gravy and kale were delicious. Scallops were lightly browned and juicy inside. Was easy to put everything on one bite. Wished there was more cauliflower purée though. Prosciutto chips were good but felt separate from the rest of the dish. Ate separately. Entrees aside drinks were refreshing and the sourdough bread broke easily into sharable portions. The bread dip was very good but was hard to taste the subtler herbs such as spinach.

This dinner was planned as a quick and easy dinner after arriving from Hawaii. We didn't want to leave the hotel - yet it was a birthday dinner for my husband. He is a vegan. The service was outstanding, the food was even better. I ordered the salmon and my husband had the tempura tofu - both excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in Vancouver.

The food here was nice - we went mainly for their Afternoon Tea, supplemented with the Sunday Brunch Menu. The non-tea food items looked delicious. The Afternoon Tea's were nice - but if you're looking for a regular/traditional Afternoon Tea this is not the place for you. It was tasty and delightful but different. The Tea selection wasn't great, but if you like one of the basic teas, you'll be happy. Also it was heavier on the second course (of sweets) than it was on the savoury dishes. I was not impressed with the service. While it wasn't terrible, it was not nearly as good as I would expect at a Fairmont...especially one not appearing to be busy on a Sunday afternoon with no appearance of a shortage of staff - perhaps our server was new.

ordered albacore tuna and fennel salad (if this were a bit larger, I would make this a meal); really nice texture and balance of flavours. halibut entrée was a bit bland but I enjoyed the 3 different types of potatoes; the pureed pea didn't add much. Chocolate dessert trio was extraordinary; the plating was probably done by someone who's won a few prizes. Brownie could stand-alone without the extra choc. layer on top, but amongst the best brownies I have had.

The service was exceptional. Not to pushy, but always attentive. Food was very good. I had rack of lamb and would have prefer to see 4-5 rack instead of 3. The sauce was good not oily. Their bread is excellent. Very soft and fresh. It was our anniversary and they made it very memoriable. They provided great service and management gave a complimentary dessert and treat to finish off the night.

It's a 5 stars hotel with a 5 stars price but only 3 stars food ( very small portion and not hot enough food) and 3 stars furniture. Please look at their floor that the hardwood should be replaced and with crumbs on the floor. When I made reservation, I didn't know that the restaurant has 2 levels so I asked for table by the window. When I went there, I found that we would prefer to be on the upper level but was refused. The reason was there were no tables for 4 available but we found that those tables were not occupied for the whole time when we were there. However, I appreciated the service of the waitress who served our table.

We were disappointed that Herons did away with the brunch buffet but decided to try it anyway since the menu looked good. We made the reservation for Father's Day brunch and when we got there they had the table set in the bar area. I thought it was odd that they would not have asked if there were kids in the party especially since they phoned to confirm the reservation. They set a new table but we did have to wait. The waitress did know the menu and had to be reminded several times to bring drinks. service was very slow and did not get any food until we had been there for an hour. When the main came I had to remind her that I needed a fork. She never brought one and I had to ask a manager. By the time I started eating my food was cold.

Hits all the high notes for freshness, taste and presentation. Pricing also hit the high notes and a dinner for six added up very quickly. Thought the bottled wine markup was very steep but was willing to overlook this because of a special occasion dinner. Wouldn't go back solely because Vancouver offers so many other equal dining experiences at a better value. However, if price is no object I don't see how you can go wrong with Heron's

It was my first time in Herons and I have bought Travelzoo voucher to not to spend too much money on the first trial. I wasn't disappointed. I am a foodie, and the most important in the restaurant for me is the food quality and a presentation. I also was meeting the old friend and didn't want too much noise around so we could talk. So I say - I had a great evening! The food was outstanding, the service was just right, I felt that special hidden care when the waiter feels what your needs are. Food and drinks are pricey though, it is a pretty upscale place, so be aware. But the chef's creations were worth it. I had scallops and smoked lingcode, my friend ordered ravioli and ribs - all are very nice!

My husband enjoyed his poached pear endive salad. Dinner was grilled cornish hen with oven dried cherry tomatoes, wild mushroom, sweet potato gnocchi in chicken truffle jus-my mouth is watery as I write this review. I can't wait to have it again. My husband- rack of lamb, swiss chard, potato planks with thyme jus was yummy too. Portion were perfect, we didn't even have room to try out dessert. Service was just perfect.

Tried this upon a friend's suggestion. Wasn't familiar with this particular Fairmont location let alone its restaurant. For starters, had the Herons' Signature seafood chowder (went down pretty quick) and honey cured salmon carpaccio (delightful and easy to nom nom on). For the main, selected a filling and seafood-rich 'seafood tagliatelle.' Got stuffed 1/2 way and ended up having rest for lunch next day. Co-worker commented on the size of the mussels (like I know much about mussels besides eating them!). 'Somehow' still had room for the 'textures of chocolate' dessert. Overall, the quiet ambiance, the roominess, and very attentive service puts it up there. would return and recommend to others.

The service is exceptional. Excellent taste on the lamb we ordered. Some room for improvements are we were being served down to a table but needed to wait for about 30min before our server brought us some bread. The bread is a bit too salty for me. Other than that, food is good and our server "Baba" did an exceptional job. She is sincere, attentive and very polite. We can feel she like her job a lot. We would recommend this restaurant for friends and family for any special occasions.
