Diner Reviews
  • "Not only was my entire meal absolutely outstanding, the service was remarkably great as well. The live music was beautiful and the waterfront scene stunning. I returned for breakfast the next morning and it, too, was a delicious experience!"

  • "I've been to this location back when it was Herons. And because I've experience herons, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, ARC did not meet that. The food we ordered was okay, nice to look at but mediocre in taste. I don't think i would revisit ARC if I were to pay the regular prices. The upside of our dinner was the service and the incredible octopus chips!"

  • "Deconstructed crab salad should be removed from the menu. It was tasteless. Live entertainment reminded me of being in a pub The donut fillings were good but donuts had a taste as if the oil had not been changed lamb was flavored well and came out hot but the steak was lukewarm"

  • "Our party of 4 had a 6:45pm reservation and we didn't finish until 9pm. The service was extremely slow and the restaurant was only less than 30% occupied during our entire meal. There were a lot of upset customers because of the slow kitchen service. The food portion was also very small. Not worth the $30+ pricing. We felt sorry for the table staffs because they were doing a lot of appologising for the slow kitchen service. We could have had a way better meal at the Catcus Club beside the new Trade & Convention Centre."

  • "Nice location with mountain/ocean views by the window. Server was friendly but could have been a little more attentive and professional for a high end hotel/restaurant. Food was creative and quite tasty, but quite overpriced ($39 for 2pc rack of lamb). Fairly small portions so value isn't great. My favorites were the brisket sliders, lamb, and banana creme pie. Ice creams were good too. Would I return? Maybe not - I'd be more inclined to go across to Hapa Izakaya."

  • "Food was decently executed, but not exceptional. Portions were relatively small given the prices charged. The decor was modern and pleasant. The restaurant seems to be trying for a "casual upscale" feel in order to attract formal diners as well as spontaneous walk-in customers. The result is what seems to be higher prices, but a slightly more casual atmosphere. Service was friendly but not extremely attentive as the servers seemed to be trying to serve too many customers at one time. The view is not the best, as the restaurant is not immediately at the waterfront. Overall, there was nothing outstanding to make us return, especially for the regular price of the menu and given the options in downtown Vancouver."

  • "Great location, used to eat there when it was Heron's. Great people watching by the window. Service was friendly, professional and efficient. I had the Halibut cheeks which were disappointing, the crust was like paper and didn't adhere to the fish, halibut was stringy, fries were good. Nothing particularly wrong but not what I expect from Fairmont chefs. My lunch partner had the mushroom quinoa whic was very delicious. Overall I didn't find a lot of food I would want to order and when I go back it will be only for convenience of location."

  • "We found out that the restaurant was booked for a private function even though our reservation went through and was confirmed by OpenTable. We went anyway. Unfortunately, we ended up seated right next to the hostess table so we had ongoing groups of people next to us while we dined. The duck was good and done perfectly. My wife had the sablefish, and although it was cooked perfectly, it was kind of bland tasting. Most of the dishes were well presented, but small in size. Overall, it was okay, but if we didn't have a coupon, it wouldn't have been worth it. Usually can get equal or better quality food at better value. Won't be going back anytime soon."

  • "Be sure to request a table next to a window like my husband and I did. If local ingredients are important to you, Herons boasts a rooftop apiary and herb garden. I enjoyed Herons own honey and basil in the form of a special cocktail. Delicious! The menu is seafood-centric. We shared a fragrant bowl of plump mussels, served with a delicate broth and toasted bread. Our entrees were very good, though perhaps falling short of outstanding. I enjoyed seared scallops over cauliflower risotto, with crispy prosciutto and steamed asparagus. My husband enjoyed a lovely seafood tagliatelle. The server was very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. The ambience was quite nice. Prices were mid-range (high 20s to high 30s). We will likely go again."

  • "it was a gift! and what a gift it was. The service was phenomenal, good was excellent, and it was a beautiful view with the christymas lights and ocean. What a wonderful experince - and very accomodating to food intolerances! :)"

  • "The service was great. However, the food was getting worse. Maybe that is the reason why the restaurant was only 25% full. Lunch menu was limited, and yet you would find four different kinds of fish --- halibut, cod, salmon, and arctic char. I was told by the server that the salmon dish under the "main" section was actually in appetizer size. Then why not classifying it as appetizer? Apart from burgers and sandwiches, chicken is the only meat you would find under "main". I ordered arctic char and it was over-cooked."

  • "Going to Heron's this night was to show off the place having eaten before. The night was quiet, we found our server knowledgable but neglectful/forgetful at times not about getting us anything but just checking back on us period. The restaurant had a great ambiance if not for the Romni wedding styled white palm trees with blue lights. For a fine dining restaurant to go with over the top ugly wedding decore seemed strange and out of place. Otherwise the restaurant was quiet. The goat cheese and beet salad was great, the scallop risotto was fabulous, the apple tart and chocolate Earle grey mousse cake was fabulous. The high note? 3 words: truffled mashed potatoes, beautifully seasoned and flavourful, that came with the steak, amazing!"

  • "We had a voucher from TravelZoo for this dining experience. The service here is outstanding. If you reserved a seating arrangement you would be addressed by your surname... Pretty small but I thought it was special. They even let us change tables after we had sat down and done so without a problem. The risotto was many times more tastier than the seafood tagliatelle but the toasted bread made up for the lack of flavour from the pasta. Too bad the apple tart + hazelnut icecream dish wasn't as great as I had hoped."

  • "This was my second time dining here and I definitely was not impressed. My entree was on the extreme salty side. And the service was way too slow...our server made us wait while she was chit chatting with another customer. I've been too turned off during this dining experience to return here ever again."

  • "After reading good reviews, I guess I had my expectations too high. First of all, food wasn't great: the mussels were so fishy that I had to stop eating it after first few bites and the scallop risotto was okay but tiny. The only thing good was the cheesecake - it was very very delicious! Second the service. The hostess who seated us was very nice. However, our server Vivian was like robot with fake smiles throuout the entire dinner, it was almost creepy. Bad food plus bad service? We will not go there again."

  • "considering the prices, I wouldn't come to this restaurant again. There was only one dish in the meal that I really liked. the salad was way too sour, 'honey' cured salmon was wayyyy too salty. The soup was good until we crunched on big pieces of lemongrass (not pleasant). The braised duck was highly recommended to us, but while 'braised' usually conjures up slow cooked tender goodness, this duck leg was disappointingly solid. In fact, I went out and bought a duck myself to braise to erase this duck's memory from my brain. The soup and the duck were from the 'apprentice chef' menu - the items lived up to their name. I'm glad it wasn't a 'professional chef'. was the food 'good'? yeah, sure, it was ok. but save your money, go somewhere else."

  • "Herons was a surprise. I often find hotel restaurants overpriced and serve mediocre food. The dishes we ordered were cooked to perfection. The grilled scallops and wild mushroom risotto was delicious, fresh and with a beautiful presentation. I loved the little extras. the homemade buns with the salse verde, the amuse bouche prawn, the biscotti with coffee and the chocolate at the end of the meal. Our server was Australian and lovely - she was the perfect combination of attentive, courteous, friendly and professional. A wonderful dining experience."

  • "Sorry to say but their Sunday brunch was substandard. I had come initially expecting a Sunday brunch buffet but apparently, their breakfast buffet ends at 11 am. In Vancouver, where brunch restaurants often don't open until 11 am, that's way too early. I ordered the steak sandwich -- which was, well, fine enough. The fries, however, tasted frozen (McCain perhaps?). I made my companion try the fries and he agreed they were frozen. That's something I expect at the cafeteria or diner down the street for their $3.99 special, not an $18 sandwich at a Fairmont. Their $6 Americanos weren't bad. But I can get a fabulous Americano in any of the fancy coffee places for markedly less than $6."

  • "The food lived up to our expectations with a very good variety of options. Two negatives was first that the music sometimes was too loud for having a relaxed conversation. The restaurant has a private room; but charge 100$ extra. Secondly the temperatures of the red wines were too high. It seems that the restaurant had the wine in a temperated cupboard; but maybe the bottles we got was taken from somewhere else"

  • "The food was superb. The service was horrible. The server was barely ever there to assist us, when she was it took her a very long time to receive our orders. We also wanted a modest priced bottle of wine that we had ordered, but 30min later they told us they didn't have it and brought a "comparable bottle ", that was not similar to the one we had ordered and was more than twice the price as we found out when receiving the bill. This is information that someone usually passes on. Overall it was just poor service, especially for what we paid for. Again the food was great. The nushroom soup was probably the best I've ever had."

  • "I have never had to send an item back to the kitchen. But I had to do that here - twice! The exact same omelet came out of the kitchen both times - nothing like what I had ordered! I think the server was having an off day and perhaps the experience will be better another time. My breakfast was comped by the manager and I think that shows that they are trying - but beware if your breakfast looks like nothing that you actually ordered!"

  • "I went to this restaurant during my anniversary with my boyfriend and in the special request box I asked them to share this special moment with me. They went over and gave us "Happy Anniversary" chocolates which I thought was really cute. My boyfriend had scallops and I had halibut. The scallops were 5.5/5. The halibut wasn't as good but I'd give 4/5. There weren't a lot of people which made for a quieter setting. But I liked that more as it felt more like I could concentrate on what was going on on my table. And as for the service, it was outstanding. How do they find those people!! Very friendly and attentive. Will go there again one day."

  • "I have been to Herons twice before, and I know that I won't be disappointed, so I took my best friend there for her birthday dinner. Not only were the staff extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the food they serve, the food tastes fresh and amazing! The dining room is airy and gives you a sense of serenity, and the view is beautiful! Our server celebrated my friend's birthday by giving her some chocolate that are made in-house. Overall, I know why I chose this restaurant and why I would want to go back again!"

  • "Great food, atmosphere and server was very warm, friendly and treated our 91 uncle so politely and even brought 2 bottles of wine for him to sample each. I've never seen that before. She was attentive without being condescending or overbearing, checking in unobtrusively. We stayed a long time and never felt rushed. A very enjoyable experience, thanks in great part to her outstanding service. The food was also delicious, very well prepared and presented and not too much of it. I will be back!"

  • "The menu selection was quite inventive and creative. The service was wonderful. The food was well cooked and well presented but lacking in flavour. The vegetarian selection was adequate."

  • "Server was knowledgeable on drinks and foods - probably a foodie herself. Food had clean presentation, flavours mixed well. Not many people when we went at 6. The tenderloin was medium rare as ordered, mash was smooth and buttery, the mushroom was a bit hard to eat with the steak. Bites with steak, mash, gravy and kale were delicious. Scallops were lightly browned and juicy inside. Was easy to put everything on one bite. Wished there was more cauliflower purée though. Prosciutto chips were good but felt separate from the rest of the dish. Ate separately. Entrees aside drinks were refreshing and the sourdough bread broke easily into sharable portions. The bread dip was very good but was hard to taste the subtler herbs such as spinach."
