Diner Reviews
  • "Christmas brunch was not as good as previous years."

  • "Attended the last Jingle Bell Brunch at Herons. Will be sad to see this restaurant go. Enjoyed dining here on several occassions."

  • "Be sure to request a table next to a window like my husband and I did. If local ingredients are important to you, Herons boasts a rooftop apiary and herb garden. I enjoyed Herons own honey and basil in the form of a special cocktail. Delicious! The menu is seafood-centric. We shared a fragrant bowl of plump mussels, served with a delicate broth and toasted bread. Our entrees were very good, though perhaps falling short of outstanding. I enjoyed seared scallops over cauliflower risotto, with crispy prosciutto and steamed asparagus. My husband enjoyed a lovely seafood tagliatelle. The server was very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. The ambience was quite nice. Prices were mid-range (high 20s to high 30s). We will likely go again."

  • "it was a gift! and what a gift it was. The service was phenomenal, good was excellent, and it was a beautiful view with the christymas lights and ocean. What a wonderful experince - and very accomodating to food intolerances! :)"

  • "The service was great. However, the food was getting worse. Maybe that is the reason why the restaurant was only 25% full. Lunch menu was limited, and yet you would find four different kinds of fish --- halibut, cod, salmon, and arctic char. I was told by the server that the salmon dish under the "main" section was actually in appetizer size. Then why not classifying it as appetizer? Apart from burgers and sandwiches, chicken is the only meat you would find under "main". I ordered arctic char and it was over-cooked."

  • "Going to Heron's this night was to show off the place having eaten before. The night was quiet, we found our server knowledgable but neglectful/forgetful at times not about getting us anything but just checking back on us period. The restaurant had a great ambiance if not for the Romni wedding styled white palm trees with blue lights. For a fine dining restaurant to go with over the top ugly wedding decore seemed strange and out of place. Otherwise the restaurant was quiet. The goat cheese and beet salad was great, the scallop risotto was fabulous, the apple tart and chocolate Earle grey mousse cake was fabulous. The high note? 3 words: truffled mashed potatoes, beautifully seasoned and flavourful, that came with the steak, amazing!"

  • "We had a voucher from TravelZoo for this dining experience. The service here is outstanding. If you reserved a seating arrangement you would be addressed by your surname... Pretty small but I thought it was special. They even let us change tables after we had sat down and done so without a problem. The risotto was many times more tastier than the seafood tagliatelle but the toasted bread made up for the lack of flavour from the pasta. Too bad the apple tart + hazelnut icecream dish wasn't as great as I had hoped."

  • "Magnificent food and a great ambience. My partner and I absolutely loved it."

  • "considering the prices, I wouldn't come to this restaurant again. There was only one dish in the meal that I really liked. the salad was way too sour, 'honey' cured salmon was wayyyy too salty. The soup was good until we crunched on big pieces of lemongrass (not pleasant). The braised duck was highly recommended to us, but while 'braised' usually conjures up slow cooked tender goodness, this duck leg was disappointingly solid. In fact, I went out and bought a duck myself to braise to erase this duck's memory from my brain. The soup and the duck were from the 'apprentice chef' menu - the items lived up to their name. I'm glad it wasn't a 'professional chef'. was the food 'good'? yeah, sure, it was ok. but save your money, go somewhere else."

  • "This was my second time dining here and I definitely was not impressed. My entree was on the extreme salty side. And the service was way too slow...our server made us wait while she was chit chatting with another customer. I've been too turned off during this dining experience to return here ever again."

  • "After reading good reviews, I guess I had my expectations too high. First of all, food wasn't great: the mussels were so fishy that I had to stop eating it after first few bites and the scallop risotto was okay but tiny. The only thing good was the cheesecake - it was very very delicious! Second the service. The hostess who seated us was very nice. However, our server Vivian was like robot with fake smiles throuout the entire dinner, it was almost creepy. Bad food plus bad service? We will not go there again."

  • "Great cinnamon flavoured martini. The chicken breast was sooo tender. The gnochi was sooo savoury. Cheesecake was sooo delicious. Great service!!!"

  • "Felt welcomed, relaxed & well-treated. Seafood pasta & rib eye steak was tasty & good portions."

  • "Herons was a surprise. I often find hotel restaurants overpriced and serve mediocre food. The dishes we ordered were cooked to perfection. The grilled scallops and wild mushroom risotto was delicious, fresh and with a beautiful presentation. I loved the little extras. the homemade buns with the salse verde, the amuse bouche prawn, the biscotti with coffee and the chocolate at the end of the meal. Our server was Australian and lovely - she was the perfect combination of attentive, courteous, friendly and professional. A wonderful dining experience."

  • "Sorry to say but their Sunday brunch was substandard. I had come initially expecting a Sunday brunch buffet but apparently, their breakfast buffet ends at 11 am. In Vancouver, where brunch restaurants often don't open until 11 am, that's way too early. I ordered the steak sandwich -- which was, well, fine enough. The fries, however, tasted frozen (McCain perhaps?). I made my companion try the fries and he agreed they were frozen. That's something I expect at the cafeteria or diner down the street for their $3.99 special, not an $18 sandwich at a Fairmont. Their $6 Americanos weren't bad. But I can get a fabulous Americano in any of the fancy coffee places for markedly less than $6."

  • "The food lived up to our expectations with a very good variety of options. Two negatives was first that the music sometimes was too loud for having a relaxed conversation. The restaurant has a private room; but charge 100$ extra. Secondly the temperatures of the red wines were too high. It seems that the restaurant had the wine in a temperated cupboard; but maybe the bottles we got was taken from somewhere else"

  • "The food was superb. The service was horrible. The server was barely ever there to assist us, when she was it took her a very long time to receive our orders. We also wanted a modest priced bottle of wine that we had ordered, but 30min later they told us they didn't have it and brought a "comparable bottle ", that was not similar to the one we had ordered and was more than twice the price as we found out when receiving the bill. This is information that someone usually passes on. Overall it was just poor service, especially for what we paid for. Again the food was great. The nushroom soup was probably the best I've ever had."

  • "I brought my family to the open table thanksgiving dinner and we were pleasantly surprised! Even thou it's out of our price range, I'm glad we went."
