Diner Reviews
  • "On this trip to Whistler we dined in 21 Steps, Quattro, Trattoria and Araxi. Araxi was by far the best. The best ambiance, food, presentation, service. We will be back!"

  • "Great food, great ambience, great wine list - not much else you can ask for in a restaurant!"

  • "We had the salmon tartar which felt it was lacking some acidity. It didn't have much flavour. After finishing the dish we had the taste of raw shallots in our mouth. The venison was the best of the two large plates we had. The sun dried tomatoes and beets had some acidity to it that went well with the venison. The rabbit was moist and savoury and went well with the creamy risotto. For dessert we had the poached pear. It included a variety of desserts with pear flavours. I really enjoyed the sorbet with pear sauce and mint leaf altogether."

  • "Always a pleasure to return to Araxi! Food excellent and tasty. My sister had cold food and yet it was the same as mine. Had it been sitting on the pass too long? Service professional yet friendly. There was a table of loud talkers next door which meant we felt overwhelmed! Why do people have to share all their experiences so loudly. On the whole though looking forward to going back next year."

  • "It was our 19th wedding anniversary and we chose to go to Araxi's for dinner. We let our server Mike choose our appetizer and then he recommended that we talk to the sommelier about the wine to go with our entrée. The sommelier was delightful and extremely helpful - we simply told him our price range and the entrées we were having and he came up with an unbelievable treat. Little extras to go with our wine choice made it even more special. We had Jason checking in with us to ensure our experience was going well, which made us feel very special. The elk tenderloin was extraordinary and my halibut was beautiful. I can't wait to go back to Araxi for our 20th Anniversary. The experience was truly memorable. Thank you to everyone!"

  • "We dined there on a Sunday night and the place was Buzzing. We were early for our reservation so enjoyed some fabulous cocktails at the bar and were treated to the complimentary truffled popcorn. Amazing!! Everything was so fresh and delicious. The black pearl oysters are some of best I've eaten. A definite must if you are visiting Whistler!"

  • "We enjoyed an outstanding meal at Araxi. The menu was full of tempting dishes, and there were some excellent specials as well. My husband had the sockeye salmon tartare entree, which was excellent; it was a very large portion. I enjoyed the squash soup with arancini. The presentation of the soup was as lovely as the flavour. We both chose the halibut from the menu, however, they were out of halibut. I had the recommended sablefish as a substiute, and it was beautifully prepared, well-seasoned and had excellent texture. My husband had the pan-seared char, and he was equally delighted with his dish. Although we were both full, we somehow found a bit of room to share the Valhrona chocolate lava cake. It was superb. We shall return!"

  • "We came here six years ago the day we got married! As this was the first chance we had of returning we booked on line from England to be sure to get in, it was busy, so we were glad we did. Everything is a good as our memories told us. Fantastic food, attentive staff, an another memorable occasion. I will definitely be back again."

  • "The best meal I've had by far. The drinks were amazing I highly recommend the cocktail trophy wife. You definitely must go if you're in Whistler."

  • "We enjoyed our meal at Araxi and would recommend it to others in the area looking for a fine dining experience. Our food was very good from the foie gras appetizer to the halibut and duck entrees. My wife had the scallops with sausage and thought that the sausage overpowered the taste of the scallops. We did not have a dessert as there was nothing on the menu that looked particularly original. While the food was very good there was nothing about it that sets it apart from most other fine dining restaurants. Our only complaint is that the warmth of the interior did not match that of the service. We found the staff to be a bit pretentious and slow."

  • "Planned to dine at Araxi for special occasion based on favorable reviews. I was disappointed with both the quality of the food and the small portion servings. In my opinion, this pricey restaurant does not live up to its reviews and I found the noise level in the dining area excessive which also detracts from the overall dining experience. Save your money and look elsewhere. If you're looking for an elegant, upscale dining experience, you can cross this one off your list."

  • "Araxis has really uped their game. We've been going there occasionally for 25 years. It 's always been good but now it's excellent and a true dining destination. They take advantage of their suchi chef to create some fabulously interesting non- suchi appetizers. The selection of entrees is just right. Duck, venison, halibut, steak, vegetarian. I had Venison that was perfectly butchered, cooked and presented on a bed of kale. They are now the best in Whistler > Rim Rock, Tratoria both of which are also favorites."

  • "Over the past 16 years we have visited Whistler a dozen times and always spend one special night eating at Araxi. We've never been disappointed and, in fact, the restaurant has gotten better over the years. The food is creative without being pretentious and the service there has always been attentive and informative. This time we had some oysters as starters - they were excellent and very fresh. Next I had the duck breast and my wife had a special pasta dish with chicken filling. Both were incredibly well presented and delicious. Wines by the glass are very reasonably priced. We loved that we were seated in an area that was enclosed by wine storage - there were only 5 or 6 tables in the area so it was very quiet and romantic."

  • "We got great food and nice service there! We ordered oyster as start. Main courses are Trip A Beef Tenderloin Steak, roasted saddle of Rabbit, and lobster. All food great and very delicious , you must be there if stay in Whistler."

  • "Food and service were good. I would have preferred the food to be somewhat hotter. I think perhaps it may have been left too long before being served."

  • "We went for dinner after a busy and active day. We'd never been and so weren't quite sure what we were in for, but we know the food would be good. Wow, we had a great time! The food was outstanding and the service was excellent! The atmosphere was that of a great restaurant but without the stuffy attitude that sometimes goes along with finer dining. I would highly recommend Araxi to anyone looking for a great."

  • "I can't say anything really bad about Araxi , only that the price/value ratio was unappealing . Food was generally good , menu extensive , and the huge wine list DID include some bargains . Ambience was somewhat condescending with hints of pretentiousness , service good , but not particularly helpful or informative , nor overly friendly . As TripAdvisor's #2 in Whistler , did NOT compare well with #1 RimRock , for perceived value . RimRock displayed highly informative and friendly service , excellent food , and the kind of warm , down-to-earth ambience we expect from a ski town ."

  • "I used Open Table to make the reservation and put in a special request to have champagne ready at the table, and for a romantic table if possible. I felt that the staff really pulled out all the stops and made it an absolutely amazing experience! Wonderful service, our waiter Benjamin was fantastic, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to my friends or strangers!"

  • "We had a fantastic meal, started with oysters and salmon sashimi followed by entrees that smelled and tasted delicious. The side dishes were as good as the proteins. Dessert, cheese plate and choice of dessert wines were also excellent. Enjoyed this experience much better than our next evening at a very pretentious Bearfoot Bistro."

  • "Was in Whistler for the TEDActive conference and caught myself with one final dinner solo. Knew I wanted great food and drinks with the option to engage, should I have the energy and choose. I requested the oyster bar which proved to be perfect. The gentlemen shucking the oysters were experienced and approachable. Oysters were local and super fresh. Ordered full dinner off of the full menu and left happy, full and looking forward to my return with friends!"

  • "The raw bar and seafood selections were excellent - Araxi has one of the most extensive and reasonably priced wine lists in all of Whistler!"

  • "Our meals took over an hour. Except one dish of pasta came 20 minutes before the rest and we were told it was our fault as down one had ordered duck. Not sure why they wouldn't just wait to cook the pasta. Service was lacking. Great location and good was decent, but probably won't return. Too many other good places in whistler."

  • "This is a great restaurant. As good as any I have eaten in. If I were in Whistler again,I would definitely eat there. My husband loved it! I would probably not bring my children again. And this is NOT a criticism. My children/teens are used to good restaurants, and good food. But the menu was too sophisticated for them.It was not the cost.It was no more expensive than any of the other upscale restaurants we ate in,but the menu was much more creative. They did accommodate my younger daughters bland palate though. It was wasted on them.Even they would agree."

  • "Good food. The scallops were overpowered by the chorizo sausage. Can be noisy especially with young kids not being well behaved. Service was attentive . A place to go at the end of a holiday"

  • "One of the best restaurant I've ever been. Fantastic food. Seared tuna was gorgeous. Duck as the entree could not be more delicious. Both plates were accompanied by very good stuff I cannot remember exactly what it was but I remember how it was good! The manager, Neil, was very classy, nice, available, responsive to our needs and very friendly. The list of wine is very extensive and awfully expensive (one "Romanee-Conti at 3,295$! - not for me!) His suggestion of wine, not expensive, was delicious and paired very well with our food. Our server, Errin, was very competent and is one of the sharpest person I've ever met; she always had something nice or fun to answer to anything I could say. Fantastic evening for Valentine's Day."

  • "Starters: Special prawn sushi roll a little dry and bland. Salmon had texture of canned salmon. Butternut squash soup presented fancily, with server pouring soup at table into bowl containing a few interesting dry ingredients. Tasty but also too sweet. Mains: pork cheek stuffed with rabbit was good. Duck breast perfectly cooked medium rare. Again the sauce was a little too sweet. Server didn't ask how I liked duck cooked so if you like it rare or more well done be sure too say so when you order. Service was perfect. Nice decor and ambience. Typical of many higher end whistler restaurants. Trying to be very special and not quite getting it. Too much going on in each dish. Overly complicated. Good but not great."

  • "We have dined here a couple of times now...it is always great! I would definatley say it is one of my favorites! The food is good and the service is, as well. The wine list is nice too. Try some to the BC wines. We will go back again. It is a nice white tablecloth place, but you can take your children as well. I saw a few kids in the restaurant..."

  • "We always look forward to celebrating our last night in Whistler at Araxi. Great selection of fresh oysters always start us off. Great selection for foodies too, I had the saddle of rabbit wrapped with pork cheek and prosciutto with wild mushroom risotto, romanesco cauliflower and root down baby carrots - wow! Knowledgeable and friendly staff gave us tips both for skiing and the local wines. We will always return!"

  • "Year after year, this is the most consistently excellent restaurant in Whistler. Every detail is attended to with care. There is not better food and the Sommelier, Samantha, was Sommelier of the Year last year -- well deserved as she is so knowledgeable and so personable. It remains our favorite."

  • "Went there 2 times and had excellent informative service both times that showcased the choice of food and wine. Lots of great wine selection in 1/2 and moderately priced bottles that was selected with care and shared with enthusiasm without selling up yielding a very engaging experience. The oyster bar a great treat après with friends. Am going back next year when back in whistler."
