Great for Lunch
Food is fantastic here! Only have
been two times but both times no one was disappointed with their food. It's a bit pricy but defiantly very tasty. I had the scallop bento box. So good! Service is a little sporadic but food came out in a resonable time. The have a fairly large tea list but were out of a lot of their options. I got my third choice. I had told the waitress that I was deciding between which tea to get, she should have told me which ones they were out of as to not waste time."

Rare spot in the loop for great
lunch. Food is consistently good"

I went in for sushi after work and
was completely disappointed with the food. The best part of the restaurant was how attentive the back wait staff was."

AraOn is a wonderful place to have
lunch or dinner. It's calm. The service is excellent. The food is generally very good, with the sushi tending toward excellent (especially the tuna sampler.) They have wonderful hot tea and a nice cava by the glass. In a city filled with high-energy eateries, AraOn is a great place to chill while you dine."
Dined on 2/4/2014
We ate here for Valentine's dinner
and loved it. Oysters were amazing and different, green tea creme brulee is a must. Romantic setting, dim lights and pretty quiet. Next visit to Chicago will probably include a stop back here."
Dined on 2/15/2014
It's nice to be able to get great
sushi for lunch. Service was slow. Some tables are very odd shaped and aren't conducive to a business lunch."
Dined on 2/14/2014
I do like going here. The food is
reasonably priced; avoid the bento - too much fried food. Order the donburi or dol sot bibimbap - both are much better values."
Dined on 2/13/2014
Good food, and you can almost
always get a table. They have a nicely-designed space, and their menu is interesting without being too intimidating for your not-as-adventurous colleagues."
Dined on 1/24/2014
love this place... reasonable
price for such great food and service on a lunch hour!"
Dined on 1/14/2014
This restaurant had good service
and food. The place was not crowded and very quiet. Good place to take a date."
Dined on 1/10/2014
Have dined here several times -
usually for sushi which is very good. Tried the sandwich today and also very good. Sightly on the higher price end for everyday lunch, but food is worth it and overall, I think a better overall experience than others on the same block."
Dined on 1/3/2014
The place was really very
appealing inside, we were there on a cold rainy day, pre-opera. While my companion waited for me, the waitress brought her a sake, very nice and thoughtful. Service as very good, except maybe this was a kitchen issue, the appetizer came after the dinner, and we were not given the choice to cancel or substitute another dish since the food was out of sequence. Did not like that the tempura came without dipping sauce, and when we asked for it was told it was drizzled over the top. I would probably not opt to go here again, the food is not horrible but also not wonderful. Maybe I had an off night."
Dined on 12/21/2013
All three of us gave this
restaurant a huge thumbs up!"

Working in the Loop, it's a
struggle to find a creative alternative for lunch. Look no further than AraOn if you like Asian food. They have a large and diverse menu of Japanese and Asian fusion dishes. I've been many times and never had a bad meal or poor service. The atmosphere also offers a nice respite from a tough day at the office. The room is peaceful with a good energy. It's also a great place to go for a private work lunch. The seating offers a lot of booths and tables that aren't stacked on-top of each other, so you can talk comfortably without concern about being overheard by your neighbors. I look forward to getting back to AraOn soon."
Dined on 11/27/2013
love going here for lunch... the
food is great, the service fantastic and a great change of pace from the typical lunch eateries."
Dined on 11/27/2013
And was amazed at the consistent
service and options for food to fit everyone's dietary needs."
Dined on 11/19/2013
great place for a good lunch with
clients or vendors"
Dined on 11/19/2013
I frequently choose this
restaurant for clients or professional acquaintances. The food is fresh, well-prepared and consistent. The sushi is always good and my personal favorite is the Bi Bim Bop with Salmon. Our waitress, Karen, is delightful and attentive without being too much!"
Dined on 10/31/2013
We've been coming to Ara On for
over a year and for the money, you won't find a better sushi restaurant in Chicago. The fish is fresh and prepared perfectly - every time. The wine list is ok but the sake selection is fantastic. The servers are very professional and very friendly. This is a go-to place for sushi if you want a more relaxing/quieter atmosphere. There's a great sushi bar area for more casual dining and the dining area tables/booths is spread out comfortably. You won't be packed in like sardines here (unlike most other Sushi places Chicago). Its the perfect place for that after-work sushi craving."
Dined on 11/4/2013
The Food was great and Chef came
out to personally great us and made special Sushi apetizers dishes for each of us. The entree's were wonderful and the waitress was very polite and professional. I would highly recommend this restaurant as it was a awesome dining experience from the time we walked in."
Dined on 10/27/2013
I've had several meetings with
client meetings/working lunch at AraOn. The noise level is fairly low making it easy to hear and the food and service is always perfect."
Dined on 10/23/2013
I've tried a variety of different
dishes and really like the sizzle plate, however, the sauce used could have had a bit more kick as it was the chili pepper and honey and I got the sweet but not so much the hot. If someone is ordering this, they want both! Thanks."
Dined on 10/2/2013
This is a beautiful stylish place
with good sushi and other items. We both had a great meal. I only wish they had more sushi rolls."
Dined on 9/27/2013
I'm from San Francisco, returning
to Chicago for business and couldn't wait to go back to AraOn for its creative and delicious sushi creations. Boy was I disappointed and will not return. Our lunch took almost two hours and not by choice. We waited forever for service and our food to come out. Our drink orders were incorrect. The waitress actually said she was glad we weren't ready to order the first time she came to our table so she was clearly overloaded. But the odd thing was it wasn't too terribly busy. We had beat in the lunch crowd. I don't know what on earth took so long. But clearly this isn't a good place for lunch when you have to get back to the office."
Dined on 9/24/2013
I never thought of AraOn as a
sushi reataurant but was excellent quality and variety"
Dined on 8/13/2013
Like everything else, the decor
and restaurant comfort level was pleasant. Our server was competent. I ordered 2 maki rolls - they were fine but nothing special. My dining companion had the Salmon Bim Bop, which was "good". Nice saki selection. I wouldn't avoid Ara-On in the future but I won't be running back either."
Dined on 8/8/2013
Service was fantastic and the food
was amazing. The melding of top grade Sushi, with Korean influences, was wonderful. Presentation , which is always a signature Sushi dining experience, was top notch. Have been here for lunch several times and have never been disappointed. Finally had a chance to bring my spouse down for a dinner, and they totally amazed us. One of our best dinners ever!! Put this on your short list."
Dined on 7/27/2013
Or whatever it was before. The
food is not bad, of not a bit overpriced, but remember it IS a gitel reataurant. Sushi is reasonably priced. Don't go out of your way, but if in the neighborhood...."
Dined on 8/3/2013
Japanese food PLUS! Sushi and maki
rolls were very moist, tasty and as a conoissour of Sushi, I was quite pleased by the Su-Chef's work. Bahn-Mi shredded pork sandwich was wonderful as well."
Dined on 7/30/2013
I've been here for lunch a number
of times -- easy to get reservations at the last minute (which probably should say something). It's quiet -- good for lunch meetings. The food quality is good, but not great. Our order was ready surprisingly quickly, which we speculated may be because the sushi is prepared in advance -- it tasted like it had been sitting around for a while, like it had been made earlier that morning (think Bento Box). The presentation is quite nice, and the sashimi was good. It will stay on my list for last minute reservations, but won't likely be my first choice when other options are available."
Dined on 7/18/2013
I can't believe I never had heard
of this spot - always looking for good lunch options in the Loop. Very glad I found this sushi/Japanese gem near my office. Will come back!"
Dined on 7/15/2013
Very nice sashimi and nagiri
platters. Unobtrusive and professional service. Very pleasant dining experience."
Dined on 7/13/2013
Good spot for a business lunch -
ambiance is nice and noise level is good. Wide range of Asian foods - from sushi to salads."
Dined on 7/11/2013
Treat yourself to the super
vegetarian roll - it is hands down the best roll I've had! (as a vegetarian) My non-vegetarian friends also love the other rolls. And if you sit at the counter, you might get a little extra treat from chef. :)"
Dined on 6/27/2013
While this is not an inexpensive
lunch/dinner option, at least you get what you pay for. And that - in one word - is QUALITY! The freshness of the fish, the presentation, the service - all add up to a really wonderful experience. The space itself is a little "uncomfortable". While they appear to have gone for the more Japanese/minimalist look, the high ceiling and vastness of the space makes it feel a little cavernous and not very "comfortable." For that I think they lose a star. However, as far as the food and service goes, its a really nice place and you'll get really great food. It's pricey - and for a downtown location where perhaps they're catering to more of the "business traveler", it's not an option to go often. Unfortunately."
Dined on 6/27/2013
The rolls are always just
beautiful and tasty! We love the AraOn roll, so beautiful and crunchy. The new one for us this time was the sweet potato and we were glad we tried it."
Dined on 6/26/2013
AraOn is an excellent place for
sushi and asian 'fusion' cuisine! A broad selection of fresh and occasionally unusual types of sushi rolls are available - I've tried 6 different rolls and haven't found one that wasn't top notch. Combination of kimchi and bacon might sound odd - but it actually works well (one of the rolls...). The super vegetarian is enjoyable but the AraOn Special is outstanding. The service is occasionally a bit slow - but not annoyingly so. Wait staff do a nice job of recommendations. Definitely worth checking out."
Dined on 6/21/2013
Easy walking distance to theatre
district - meal and service were outstanding. Excellent sushi. I will be back"
Dined on 6/23/2013
Finally - loop had great asian
fusion place. You do not need to cab to BenPao or PFChangs any more. AraOn is better!!!! Great location, gourmet selection for anyone: from sushi to rice dishes to Vietnamese sandwiches."
Dined on 6/20/2013
A go-to spot for business lunches
in the Central Loop"
