Diner Reviews
  • "You won't find your california or dragon roll here. Best if you have a true appreciation for raw fish and no fancy sauces. Decor is excellent, great for a romantic date or groups."

  • "Highly Recommended. With sake our bill was $75 pp."

  • "This is my favorite sushi in the city. Their rice alone is worth the visit. The servers will give generous help if asked to describe, and when we were not sure about what saki to order our server brought us 3 to taste based on our conversation. She also did well at balancing the keeping us looked after with letting us talk. The place is expensive, but for a splurge I believe it is worth it."

  • "The sushi here is always fresh and succulent. Closest thing to Tokyo in Chicago. Love the Omakase. Yellowtail sashimi is heavenly. Worth the trek to the west side. Nothing commercial about this place. Small and subdued. Service is always great."

  • "We met close friends and avid sushi lovers at Arami on a Friday night. It's very pleasant but the tables are close and the noise is vigorous. We were an engaged in our conversation as others however, and not attentive to the great menu. So we asked our lovely server to guide our selections throughout and her choices were all amazing. The sashimi was my favorite, each impeccably fresh. My one request was the Sake Garlic, delectable slices of salmon heaven! We enjoyed some wine, many cups of ginger tea and even some Moshi for dessert, and the check at the end of many servings and a delicious meal was moderate...Arami is a favorite...Don't change a thing!"

  • "We found this little place and were very impressed by the service and excellent food. The presentation was outstanding and tasted delicious! The service was notable as every person was so friendly and greeted you and said good bye as we walked in and out of the restaurant. Highly recommended!"

  • "excellent food and service. Gotta try it. This will become our secret place for Japanese"

  • "Arami has become our favorite sushi restaurant. Try the Toro Tartare bites, oysters and Spicy tako spring rolls for starters. The sushi is all amazing, but my favorite is the Sake garlic. Unbelievably delicious. We then split a couple of noodle dishes. Their ramen is incredible. We take our children with us often - ages 5 and 7 - and they are always cheerfully welcomed. If I could eat here every day, I would."

  • "My wife is obsessed with sushi and I decided to take her to Arami for her birthday. And she loved it. Best sushi in Chicago."

  • "We tried a wide variety of items, all of which were delicious. Our server helped us focus on special dishes. No need to describe what we had, because I got the feeling that anything one would order would also be wonderful. The server was knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed the small restaurant casual ambience. Can't wait to go back."

  • "This was my first visit to Arami. Menu is extensive, food was fresh and good, saki choices were decent. I will definitely go back."

  • "The food was good, but it is far from being one of the best sushi dinners I've had. The prices are thus unjustified."

  • "This was our first time here and we were pleasantly surprised. Was a little over priced for sushi but the food was very good overall and we had a great experience."

  • "We loved the food at Arami! Everything we ordered (hamachi carpaccio, spicy tuna tartar, two specialty rolls, pork shoulder ramen) was divine. We also really enjoyed our cocktails. The only down side was that Arami is more pricey than most other Japanese restaurants, which makes is more of a special occasion place rather than a favorite go-to spot."

  • "Huge sake list, great cocktails, delicious and unusual sushi. not your standard sushi place. the tuna app is a must try!"

  • "Arami is my favorite place for sushi in Chicago. It has a modern approach to sushi flavor. The sushi stays true to traditional sushi taste but also offers updated variations that are not fusion-ey and cheesy."

  • "Made a reservation and popped in one Tuesday night. I was surprised to see the restaurant packed, which was a good sign. We were seated on time and promptly visited by our waitress. Drinks came right away. While all the food was excellent, it took a little longer than we had hoped to be served, about 20-25 mins, each time we ordered a plate. After being there for a couple of hours, we wanted to order another plate or two, but decided we didn't want to wait for another dish. I will go back again and would definitely recommend this place."

  • "As someone who isn't always adventurous with food I put my guard down and went all in. I tried a variety of different foods with my awesome survey Lisa giving the best advise and listening to my reservations. The ramen is perfect and their house made ice creams are to die for."

  • "Everything we had was outstanding. We had our server pick most of the items Do not miss the Brussel sprouts. Best sushi I've ever had. We also tried some robato items. The pork belly was fantastic Can't wait to return."

  • "Went there for dinner at 9pm. The restaurant was very busy. We had to wait even though we had a reservation. Had a nice scene. The food was good, with the exception of the ramen which was not good at all. Our server was very friendly and did a good job taking care of us"

  • "I have no complaints about this place and left very happy. Everyone was SOO nice, the service was impeccable and the ambiance is perfect. You should go here to catch up with friends, go on a date, and if you like fresh awesome sushi. Wakatake is my fave sake and they carry it here, fyi. Rochelle the bartender is super sweet and Michelle our server was very attentive."

  • "I have eaten at some very high end sushi spots and this is at the top of my lists. recently, I went to Nobu in LA and this place was better. The value for what you get is great. This was my second dining experience here and it is worth the drive !"

  • "Arami is one of those places that I don't get to often but I think about all the time. The food is absolutely out of this world good. The fish is some of the best I've had. The rolls are always creative and delicious without being overdone, bloated concoctions drenched in mayo and roe, like some other places in the city. The prices are high though which limits the frequency of my visits somewhat, but has yet to stop me from going once every couple of months. The service is top notch too, helpful and friendly. Everyone is very knowledgeable about the menu and is more than willing to share suggestions and favourite items with you. At half the price, I'd eat here every night. But for now I'll be content to wait for next time."

  • "I went to Arami on a Saturday evening with my wife. We were between 2 tables of four persons. Both tables beside us were ridiculously loud. It was overwhelming, and even more surprising that Arami markets itself as providing "high quality sushi in our peaceful, natural, garden like atmosphere". Well there were absolutely none of that. Sushi rolls give a fairly "clean" feeling, rice quality is decent, but the ingredients lack taste. Sashimi and nigiri are decent, but taste is average and texture is very common. Robata beef strip is ok, but here again taste and texture are average. The best surprise actually comes from the sake list which is well categorized and described. All-in-all, food is not bad, but not up to the hype, and overpriced."

  • "The sushi is the best I've had in Chicago, everything ordered was delicious. I started with the brussle sprout as an appetizer based on another reviewers suggestion, soooo good. The my friend and I had the chef's sashimi & nigiri plate, excellent!!! We then had a roll based on our servers suggestion, also delicious and we had a couple other items and dessert, everything was wonderful. Great wine selection, I would normally have ordered saki because there is such a great selection but my friend doesn't drink it, but our wine paired perfectly with everything."

  • "On a recent Saturday there was no one tasked with maintaining a nice ambience in the restaurant. One patron was particularly obnoxious and loud, banging her chop sticks on the table as if it were her drum, her voice screeching. When I spoke up to our server, her reply was in effect "oh yes it's bad she's disturbing everybody." NO staff took the initiative to ask the patron to be quiet or leave. Each of our four courses was delicious, inventive and exquisite. The salmon carpaccio is one of the best dishes anywhere. I don't understand how a restaurant so sensitive and ambitious about food quality is so poor on service. Looking for a replacement go-go for sushi. Not rushing back soon to Arami."

  • "We went to Arami and asked to do a chef's tasting menu ("Omakase"). Though they typically ask that you call in advance for the experience, they were able to satisfy our request and the experience was unforgettable. You sit at a small table next to the sushi bar and we ended up chatting with the chefs the whole evening. Everything was visually beautiful and absolutely delicious. In short, there are a lot of "fancy" tasting menus in Chicago, but for a real gourmet experience, you can't beat Arami's Omakase."

  • "The sushi here was fantastic. The other dishes were also fantastic. The brussel sprouts with lamb sausage were ridiculously good. The service was mediocre. I did not appreciate the server recommending the most expensive dishes on the entire menu to our table (which another guest at our table proceeded to order) and rather transparently driving the bill through the roof. Also the wine by the glass selection was awful, like a bar at the mall. Staff definitely had the 'we're hipper than you' attitude (so boring btw, you'll be middle aged soon too). All that said, we'd probably return because the food was worth it, so kudos to the kitchen here."

  • "Ate here for special Xmas dinner exchange. Bar has great cocktails, a tremendous sake menu, and the food is great. Sushi is fresh and creative, unique specials for the not so ordinary standard sushi bar fare. Delicious ramen and hot plates too. Even the dessert menu is top notch. Service was attentive but not overbearing, well informed. It's a great meal. I'd do again soon."

  • "Arami continues to deliver the best sushi experience in town. The menu offers more variety than simply sushi though, and almost everything we've ever tried here has been excellent."

  • "You won't be smacked in the face with a giant sign out front...but we got smacked in the face with amazing food in a really cozy room in this restaurant that feels like a bit of a super secret. My date and I had traditional sushi offerings as well as a few things that I wouldn't have expected to find in a sushi restaurant. Everything was delicious!!! My highlights were a cold salmon garlic sashimi, a new roll that was spicy and I can't remember the name other than sake was in it, some of the best Brussel sprouts with lamb sausage you will ever eat, and a pork belly on a skewer that was outrageous! Our server was friendly and fast and we felt that we could trust her to make a few choices for us."
