Aragona, soon to be Vespolina is a chef driven, deeply personal “author’s” cuisine that serves simple and sophisticated versions of classic dishes from Spain, utilizing the products of small, local farmers and local and imported artisans. There will be an emphasis on examining the roots of these cuisines, namely, using the historical reach of the kingdom of Aragon as a lens to explore and promote how boundaries of power, empire and trade influenced and shaped traditional and modern dishes from these regions.Continued

  • "My wife and I had a delightful dinner at Aragona. Each dish was carefully prepared and delicious and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The gazpacho, lamb, and pound cake dessert were especially good. I've read reviews of Aragona in which the reviewers complained of the portion sizes. That's silly. The appetizer portions are larger than traditional tapas, and the entrees are just right. We'll happily return to Aragona."

  • "We started with Happy Hour small plates and wine. All was reasonably priced. The wine was decent. The small plates were interesting but inconsistent. It seemed like they are trying too hard to be innovative, which continued with the small plates on their regular menu. The setting is lovely. The restaurant is nestled away from the noise and bustle of First Avenue and the view of the Sound is lovely. Our server was very accommodating, patient and knowledgeable. He also laughed at my jokes which is always a plus. This restaurant is new on the scene. I think it has potential and would be willing to give it a second chance."

  • "We were thrilled to finally try Aragona. Two dining spaces -- a hip, louder, sound-view space in the bar area or a quieter open space looking into the kitchen. We opted for the quieter space, which was still lively and not stuffy. Staff was excellent. All extremely knowledgeable, welcoming, accommodating. Wine list was really, really well chosen and interesting with a great by-the-glass selection. Now the food... Oh, my. Some of the best we've had in Seattle, which is saying a lot!! The Squid ink vermicelli and Albacore over kale both were to-die-for apps, then the Braised Rabbit over Santa Maria beans and the Octopus with potatoes and chorizo? OMG, We're ready to go back again tonight! We've already invited friends for another round soon!"

  • "We had high hopes for Aragona as we've enjoyed Spinasse and Artusi; and, it was recommended by good friends. As fairly adventurous foodies, we ordered a variety of items (trout, lamb, and octopus) and they were all disappointing. The trout tasted like it was smoked and then, soaked in vinegar. The lamb was flavorless and the octopus was gummy. Truly, the wine and bread were the stars of the show. Our waiter was nice but slow and the restaurant was not full. There was a weird vibe with the sommelier and the kitchen. Maybe it just wasn't a good night for the staff but we won't be going back anytime soon."

  • "We enjoyed this restaurant immensely. It was evocative of several trips to Spain though the food items were all quite original and prepared with care. The attention to detail on the wine list and the menu was obvious. We enjoyed the flight of dry sherries and a lovely Rioja. We started with a beet salad that was out of this world. The homemade sunflower seed crackers were very special - we asked for seconds!. For our entrees we had the leg of lamb and the filet. The desserts were a delight and the coffee extraordinary - even by Seattle standards. The location is perfect, near the bay with a view of the Big Wheel from the bar. If you enjoy Spanish food and want a special dinner while in Seattle, we recommend this spot."

  • "Another incredible meal! We were greeted warmly by the hostess. Chris, the wine steward, recognized us and even remembered our preferences! Food was fantastic! Our table tried 4 starters --beets (a delicious work of art), radish salad (my husband loved it), the jamon, and the broccoli--- both well received by our guests. Next came the BEST ribeye that I have ever had!!! The others had the octopus and lamb. They were very happy with their choices. Yum! Chris recommended excellent wines to compliment our meals. It is easy to see why Kerri was on Top Chef! We love Aragona because it introduces us to fantastic new foods! All I can say is go there!"

  • "I returned from living in Spain for two years and was very excited to try this restaurant. It exceeded the hype. To give only one example, the fideos evoked multiple Spanish dishes while harmoniously marrying Spanish cuisine with local ingredients and flavors. Chris Tanghe's sherry recommendations paired excellently with the food and heightened the experience. I was impressed."

  • "Aragona is located directly across the street from the Four Seasons hotel. It has a decent view is you'r lucky enough to get a seat close enough to a window. As far as the food goes, well....I think the chef has amazing talent, although I remain unimpressed by some of the ingredients. A highlight was the hemp and bread basket that they served to us. I had an albacore appetizer that was pretty good, but I ordered the ribeye and it was sinewy and chewy. I also had a salad that was so drowned in dressing it could have been a soup. Overall, the restaurant was just okay in my opinion. If I was to return to Seattle in the near future, I would not be returning to eat here."

  • "Thoughtfully different food: whole boneless trout stuffed with a nice mix of ham and vegetables, and with smoky blackened skin, yet none of that overpowering the delicate trout; a refreshing red pepper gazpacho with distinct strawberry flavor, too; and an interestingly different olive oil ice cream rolled in slightly sugared cocoa nibs (maybe the best treatment of cocoa nibs we've yet encountered)."

  • "Recently I planned a dinner party for my partner"s birthday at Aragona. It was a perfect evening from start to finish. Best service I have ever had in Seattle. Many of my dinner guests had dietary restrictions and each was handled with perfection. The restaurant is loud but the ambiance out weighs the noise. Thank you to the staff for a 4 hour birthday dinner that flew by without a hitch."

  • "Four of us went to Aragona for dinner on Saturday. Wow, we were impressed. The food was really good - but I have to say that the service was some of the best we've had. The way they presented the options, worked with us on our choices, and presented the food was really outstanding - for instance, two of us split a steak and they even presented it to us with our particular 'heat' levels (med & med-well). Go, have fun!"

  • "A little too expensive for this to be a regular spot but definitely a special occasion dining place. Tried all the fish options on their menu (they are open to serving food family/tapas style even though the portions & prices are for entrees instead of tapas) - halibut, salmon & trout. Loved all 3 of them. We went in for the cocktails though everyone around us was doing paired wines ... they seem to have a pretty decent selection of wines and good sommeliers to guide you through picking the right wine to pair. Will go back there for another special dinner!"

  • "The first courses were excellent specifically the gazpacho and a dish of thinly sliced mortadella. The steak which at $44 was overpriced was tasty but a bit too greasy the halibut was tasty with a nice sauce but a bit overdone. Desserts were superb as well as the coffee. The wine steward was knowledgeable and the service was excellent. I'd give it another try"

  • "Using open table for my dinner reservation was very easy, love it! I went for dinner on a Saturday night with my husband and some friends, we are a big fans of Spanish food, specifically Tapas (appetizers) which Aragona didn't really have. The food was good, but not great, the prices are a little bit high for the lacking flavor food. The service is good, the ambience is pretty boring, I wish they would play some Flamenco music. My advise go to the lounge for happy hour instead of dinner."

  • "Had our first dinner here on 5/31 and were sadly disappointed. The hostess gave us an option of sitting in the main dining room (beautiful decor, no view) or in the lounge (beautiful day, nice view). It was great to have an option, and we chose to sit in the lounge. Unfortunately the service in the lounge was akin to a fast food restaurant... very brusque, no warmth, no engagement from our server. She literally threw menus (and flatware, and drinks, etc...) down on the table and rushed away. No explanation of the menu, no conversation. Our plates were whisked away before we took the last bite (and the lounge was not busy/full). The menu was quite limited, food was good, but for $250 for 2 we expected much better service."

  • "Upon approaching the restaurant you notice a fabulous view of the Seattle waterfront. The restaurant has a wonderful open seating area with lots of light. The staff was pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, they explained and aspect of our dining experience as needed,kept the table cleared when dishes were completed. Our meals were served at the correct temperature and flavors filled your taste buds with pleasure, the meal was a true delight. I would return try other dishes, enjoy the bar area and recommend to anyone looking for an evening out."

  • "Maybe I am old-fashioned, or carry baggage as a former server, but when paying over $100 a person. I expect the service to be near impeccable - instead, ordered items were forgotten (an increasingly common casualty associated with odd trend of doing away with writing orders down), cocktails & wine arrived too late to be enjoyed with our courses, we ordered dessert from a busser, overall slow service (despite half-full restaurant on a werk night), our server virtually disappeared half-way thru dinner. And then brought us the wrong check...otherwise, the food was excellent and a beautiful dining space."

  • "We chose to sit in the lounge because of the water front view. Service started out great, but then got choppy. Food took a long while to come out, and seemed to come in waves. While our water glasses were always full, we didn't see much of our waiter and at the end of the meal, just put the dessert menus down and walked away. Strange. I think he was having a tough time with the other tables next to us? The food was really a mixed bag. We ordered a few things to start, and then a couple entrees. The chips and the croquetas were the stars. I could eat them every day, but the rest was meh or just down right not good, particularly the strawberry gazpacho. Plenty of other options in the area that will give you better taste in Seattle. "

  • "We had a great night. Distinctive cocktails; my favorite was the Poniente - a refreshing sherry-based cocktail. The entrates special was sublime - a strawberry-pepper soup. Extraordinary! My friend had the lamb chops which the entire table agreed was the best lamb we had ever tasted. Service was flawless - our water glasses were never empty, the sommelier was accommodating and informative, and our server was good-humored, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. We will be back."

  • "Aragona presented the ubiquitous spanish cocktail , gin tonic offered in 2 different variations. Chickory salad, geoduck vermicelli, and a ribs and rice dish were our choices. Attentive wait staff and somalier. Topped off with spanish donuts with truffle salt. Yum. "
