AquitaineI took a young woman who II took a young woman who I have been mentoring to lunch at Aquitaine where my family had a delicious brunch in the past.. My onion soup was wonderful and the small salad simply and well dressed. The sandwich, however, had one slice of ham and one slice of cheese which seemed a little skimpy. My guest's burger was ample and well done as she requested. The creme brulee was not as expected. There was no sugar glazed crust; the custard was butterscotch color and more the consistency of pudding. I would return to Aquitaine for dinner or brunch again.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal but no A/CThree of us had dinner on a Sunday night. It was a warm day, and the restaurant didn't have the A/C on. It wasn't unbearable hot, but it was a bit warm (although better than too cold). Food was great. We all skipped the appetizers to save room for dessert. I got the goat cheese gnocchi which were great. Hubby had mussels, small (but tons of them) but good. Fries were ok - on the too salty side. Friend got sea bass - very good. Portions were modest. Desserts (tarte tatin, chocolate mousse, and chocolate cake were good, maybe a little too sweet on the sauce with the tarte tatin but still good. Our server was awesome and brought some extra chocolate sauce with the cake. We will definitely return.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMSaturday Brunch was very busySaturday Brunch was very busy and very noisy but the wait staff and food were great.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMpre-theatre treatWe both had excellent breakfasts, coffee was great and refillled without having to ask . Our waitress ( Sorry I don't recall her name) was very pleasant, informed re: menu options, and attentive. We made reservations and were seated within a few minutes of arriving.-- all wonderful-- EXCEPT, - I really HATE having the tables so close that you can't help but hear other guests conversation and they yours. Part of shariing a wonderful meal is enjoying a conversation -- that is hard to do with a sense of invaded privacy. Also with the tables so close, if you need to get up you have to disrupt everyone and fear spilling the drinks-- that is so akward and uncomfortable.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMSimple French in the South EndThe Aquitaine Group as a whole is great at offering simple but delicious French dishes (see Aquitaine's sister restaurant Gaslight Brasserie). I have only dined at Aquitaine for lunch, but leave every time happy and full. Good wine list. Good cocktails. Great ambience.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMLate Afternoon BrunchI went with 2 girlfriends on a Sunday afternoon for a late brunch. We had reservations so the wait was very short. The location is good but the tables were a tad too close together for my liking. But I guess that's the city for you. I had egg's benedict that came with potatoes (pretty standard), we split the house made cinnamon buns (very yummy and highly recommended!) and also split a creme brûlée for dessert. Overall, good food and service.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe most delicious food. TheThe most delicious food. The atmosphere was perfect. The waiter was great.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMDependable bistro foodI have dined here many times and enjoyed it again last night. The mussels app was delicious, the steak a'poive tasty and the strawberry dessert special perfect. the lamb, dinner of the day, wasn't quite up to par, but when you try something adventurous you have to be willing to take a chance. The service is most attentive and the mood relaxed and welcoming. It's a nice spot that does a great job.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe new bone marrow apperitizerThe new bone marrow apperitizer is wonderful !!!!!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent choiceWe had tickets to a show at the Calderwood, so an early dinner at Aquitaine was a perfect choice. The staff was attentive, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was great. We enjoyed our dinners but still had plenty of time to get to the show.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMEngaging and lively local hot spotThe restaurant was busy but the service still very good, wait staff attentive. The noise level was moderate to high and had a lively feel to the atmosphere. I like to order my entire meal from the appetizer menu and there was many interesting dishes. I had the mussels en cassoulet and warm asparagus salad; both were excellent. At the end of the dinner, I had the chocolate mousse and another od our party ordered cheese. Both were very good. A very nice selection of cheese.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMDining at AquitaineThe food at Aquitaine is always consistent and delicious. Seafood prepared perfectly, Steak as requested. The special dessert of Rhubarb Crostini with Ginger Pepper Ice Cream, just lovely.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't go wrongRecently, I lunched/brunched with a group of lady friends, some of whom live near the out of town Aquitaine. I hesitated for a moment taking them somewhere they could go in the suburbs but reasoned, the South End location has its own unique vibe. I/we were not disappointed with the choice. The atmosphere is urban and sophisticated, food very good and the light pouring in on this particular Sunday was a treat. Aquitaine is always a reliable choice when you want a good lunch or dinner.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAquitaine winsLast weekend and this while entertaining out of town guests, we hit restaurants new and old. We chose Clio over Aquitaine last weekend and were sorry we did. Aquitaine always performs. We were delighted by our experience. The ambiance, food, service have never disappointed us. Great food, great evening5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAquitaine Excels! From the excellent service to the wonderful preparation and presentation of each dish to the incredibly delicious food itself -- the whole experience at Aquitaine in the South End was a real treat! We never felt rushed while we ate and our server was attentive without being intrusive. Definitely will go again and would recommend as a great place to eat!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was truly outstanding.Everything was truly outstanding. I look forward to our next visit.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI went to Aquitaine twiceI went to Aquitaine twice in one week because I loved it so much the first time. However, the second time I went was a Saturday for brunch, and the experience was much more rushed, and my dish wasn't as good as lunch on Monday. There is a much more extensive menu available for lunch, and I had planned to get the crepes for brunch, but when I arrived on Saturday they weren't on the menu. All in all, though I highly recommend it.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMJust a terrific dinner fromJust a terrific dinner from start to finish with warm professional service in a beautiful cozy room4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMgood experience not casualThe menu is really great, they have a lot of beautiful options for fine dining. The food is nice but I wasn't overwhelmed by it. The service was really great and the price for fine dining wasn't over the top so overall a positive experience. I'd go back for light eating not necessarily the big entrees.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOur go-to placeOur go-to place for any special, or not so special occasion! The food is always consistent and excellent, the staff always deferential and accomodating, the service is excellent and Maggie makes the most amazing Creamsicle-tini! If we lived closer to Boston we would dine there much more often!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery professional serviceVery professional service and great food. Table area was very cramped, near the doorway on a cold night.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOur Favorite South End RestaurantWe live in the South End and Aquitaine has become our favorite restaurant, out of MANY fine ones. The food is consistently excellent. The warm beet salad and endive salad delicious. The shrimp bisque constructed at the table was a lovely presentation. Our party had 3 different fish entrees, all delicious, as was the pepper steak and other steak filet entree.
We brought out of town guests who loved the restaurant and the South End atmosphere.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant is one ofThis restaurant is one of my neighborhood favorites. Mauricio, our server, was truly a professional! I can't of been happier with his service.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious brunch, upbeat atmosphereDelicious brunch, upbeat atmosphere, attentive service. It was a holiday and we weren't rushed which was very nice.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Brunch Experience! We always enjoy going to Aquitaine particularly for weekend brunch. Not only is the food great, the staff is outstanding. The hostesses are always friendly. Our waiter on this visit was Matthew who is just outstanding and we really appreciated his helpfulness and friendliness.
PS; please bring back the short rib hash, we had this fantastic hash once when we went for brunch a while ago, on Matthews recommendation and haven't seen it since. I am not a huge fan of hash, but this is some pretty amazing stuff!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my second time goingThis was my second time going to Aquitaine within a week - first for Restaurant Week, and then for Saturday brunch. Both times the food was absolutely amazing. It's a bit cramped inside and you might get friendly with your neighbors, but it's part of the French dining experience.
I ordered the mushroom, leek, and boursin cheese omelet, which was the best I've ever had. We also had the fresh berries with whipped cream - who knew that fruit could be one of the best parts of brunch?! My friend and I left with huge smiles on our faces.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMRestaurant Week LunchWent here for Boston Restaurant Week Lunch Winter 2013 Menu edition.
Appetizers were a bit plain and bland, expected a bit more! Entree was phenomenal. One of the best Salmons I've had in awhile and the dessert also didn't meet my standards and I wish I chose something other than the crepe.
Aside from this trip, Aquitaine has amazing Brunch which I would go back for all the time!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food where the tasteWonderful food where the taste and presentation are worth the price. The food was high quality and with appropriate portion size. (if you are looking to take home leftovers this is not the place). Waiter was polite and very helpful. And, it is appreciated that "tap" water is recognized as a drink of choice. Thank you.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experience! I'veGreat dining experience! I've been here several times and it never disappoints. South End Gem!3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for restaurant week,We went for restaurant week, and I understand that it's a set menu, but the server moved is along a little too quickly. The wait staff were very knowledgable, profession able and attentive the food and wine pairing was outstanding3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch/Restaurant Week ReviewThe food was pretty good. I got the Croque Magret, it was a good sandwhich. My friend got the Omelette Alsacienne, it was missing seasoning or a sauce. I came for restaurant week and was disappointed to find out that it wasn't available at the time that I went there until we sat down... But overall, the atmosphere was good, a little noisy but a good brunch place.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was amazing but we hadFood was amazing but we had a reservation for 8:30, arrived at 8:20, and were not seated until 9. There was little to no waiting room (the bar was full) and we were very close to leaving. It may have been prudent for the restaurant to offer us a complimentary drink or...bread...something! Especially since we were told at 8:20 we'd be seated at EXACTLY 8:30.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you want to dine in a FrenchIf you want to dine in a French bistro---Aquitaine is the place. The small, cozy restaurant with the velvet curtains to keep out a night is a great intimate place for a couple or friends to sit and talk over steak frites.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing BrunchAmazing brunch. The staff is always courteous and the food always delivers. The Prix Fixe brunch is one for the best values in all of Boston.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, good cocktailExcellent food, good cocktail menu, great wine list. Reasonably priced considering food quality. Service was great up to when the entrees and wine were delivered, then service disappeared for over an hour. Not a big deal because we were enjoying the night out but I did have to get up to find someone to pay the bill eventually. Would not keep me from coming back though, just found it odd. Accommodated my request for a corner table. Very nice.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA great spot with great food.A great spot with great food. After Metropolis, probably my favorite of the Aquitaine Group, not any of which give you other than a terrific meal!2/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAquataine is one of greatAquataine is one of great finds for weekend brunch.
