Diner Reviews
  • "Had a great time. The food was delicious, the servers were extremely friendly and helpful. Really cozy atmosphere with big open doors at the front letting in a nice evening breeze. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! You will not be disappointed."

  • "The pork dish was excellent. I had the scallops appetizer on a bed of shrimp risotto, also lovely although a little less pea puree might have also made the dish better. I found it a bit overwhelming paired with the seafood."

  • "We had a lovely meal at Aquitane. The hostess is the mother of the chef (her daughter) and the sou chef (her son). Excellent service. Well priced for the quality and portion size. Would definitely return."

  • "Service was awful. One waiter for entire restaurant on a SATURDAY night. Food was good although the onion soup had way too much cheese and bread in it and not enough soup. It was in a cup size portion. Waiter mixed up the bill. However the knucci was worth going there for."

  • "I plan to move to Chicago at some point and I can see this being my weekly regular spot. It's just lovely in EVERY way!!! The food is INCREDIBLE, service is very attentive, the decor is beautiful. If you love a quiet, relaxing, intimate restaurant to wind down and enjoy a fabulous meal, this is the place to park yourself!"

  • "This is a very nice neighborhood type restaurant. Food is good and the staff are very polite. courteous and attentive to your needs. I would recommend trying if you are in the area."

  • "We had a complicated night with college graduations and cancelled flights, this was our only family meal. The server was understanding and helpful. The food was delicious. Saffron mussels, salads, salmon, short ribs, vegetable tart, all yummy. The peach bread pudding was worth every calorie. Originally our youngest was, then wasn't, then was coming and they packaged and unpackaged her dinner gracefully. Support this restaurant, great food and good hosts!"

  • "I would have given 3 stars if I was reviewing its dinner service. Like the dinner food much better. But had terrific mimosas."

  • "This was my second time at Aquitaine, but the first time for the other 3 people in my party. Everyone loved it. The woman who ordered duck said it was some of the best she's ever had, and her husband wanted to return soon so he could order it for himself, although he did really enjoy his short ribs too. This is an intimate dining experience and you can taste the love that goes into every dish. The waitress was even able to whip up an outstanding chocolate martini for my husband even though it isn't a drink normally offered there. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Good food and service fantastic; had a Groupon and well worth $60 for two 3-course meals. One of the best desserts I have ever had. I highly recommend the Amber Cake! The drink I had was also fabulous; I can't remember the name, but it had Prosecco and vanilla, fig, pepper syrup. Delicious!"

  • "We dined here pre-theatre. The food was very good with some unique menu items. Nice drinks. Service was great. Would recommend for a date or small group."

  • "The ambiance was good, especially for my elderly parents who can't handle too much noise. But the service, although not un-courteous, was slow and felt unpolished. I do credit them for replacing a spilled drink for free. But it took too long to order and the food arrived somewhat sporadically. For the main courses, the meats were piping hot (and quite good) but the sides were cool or even cold- very inconstant. Tables took too long to clear and they felt short-staffed."

  • "We love this place. We keep coming back as is always good food, good wine, friendly service and consistently so. We just wish they had air conditioning when it gets too warm and humid."

  • "Go during the evening on weekdays if you enjoy getting a chance to talk to wonderful staff. The food was flavorful and expertly prepared. Beautiful decor complemented this experience and ensured a return visit from my girlfriend and I. "

  • "This is the first time for brunch at the Aquitaine. The brunch was superb as with the dinners I've had there."

  • "Discovered Aquitaine on a cold January day and was won over by their scrumptious mushroom soup. Went this time for Mother's Day expecting a nice quiet early evening. There was a large loud party but they didn't really detract from the experience. Service was so friendly and good. Food was delicious--duck crepe (a perfect size for lunch entree), salmon and baby kale, filet, trout, beet salad with arugula, and salted caramel cake. Portions are ample--we even took food home. Aquitaine has a very intimate feel that we like."

  • "We had a lovely late mother's day brunch at Aquitaine. The food was good; the servers were attentive; we enjoyed the $5 mimosas. And the restaurant was quiet, we could talk, and we stayed for a long time. We had never eaten there before, and we will definitely be back. "

  • "I was in town for Mother's Day weekend and chose to have dinner with my sons at Aquitaine. It's located in the busy bar scene on Lincoln Ave., and is fairly small so reservations are recommended. The French food was wonderful at reasonable prices, the service was friendly and attentive. Great value!"

  • "The perfect place to eat before a show at the Greenhouse Theatre and the only grown-up restaurant on that particular strip of Lincoln Ave. Just far enough away from the crazed and drunken college bars up the street. A handsome little bar. A warm and inviting dining room. And the food is just wonderful. A nice variety of salads, apps and entrees, and great options for Vegetarian and Pescatarian diners! The wine list is well put together and moderately priced. They know how to make a cocktail. And the service is friendly and attentive. Also great for a quiet glass of something after the theatre has gotten out. (And I think they even throw a nice discount to the theatre goers...keep your ticket stub!) "

  • "my husband and I celebrated a romantic dinner here for my birthday, it was small inside but that added to the ambiance. The food was outstanding, we had a Groupon for here and had the "Prix five" menu. The food portions were small but we prefer that and the quality of the food was amazing. The service was good too. The only thing was it was a little noisy with a large group there but otherwise it was amazing."

  • "The service was cheerful but the food, undistinguished. We would not return, even though it is convenient to theatre."

  • "We ate Easter dinner at the restaurant. Surprised that there was only one wait person on duty. She did a good job but clearly the restaurant missed the mark in not having additional staff that evening. Food was good but not particularly memorable. Desserts were a disappointment."

  • "This is a difficult review, b/c we love Aquitaine. My mom was visiting for Easter so we chose to eat here for brunch after church. I truly think it was an off day, & they were understaffed. They had a prix fixe menu (to be expected) & the food was VERY good! The problem was that it was a 2 hour meal, NOT by our chosing. We submitted our order all at once, expecting everything to be paced appropriately (we had Cubs tickets & did not want to linger). Clearly, our third course was never put in - we waited 30 minutes watching 3 other tables that came in after us turn over. It was almost comical like we were intentionally being overlooked. They acknowledged the delay by comping 2 drinks. We will be back, but probably not on a holiday weekend. "

  • "We went to brunch here after church on Easter and it was fabulous. The great weather certainly helped as they could open the front windows, but the staff was super nice, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was relaxed and "happy". They were short staffed, since someone had an emergency, but you would not know if from the easy manner of the servers and the way the food came without a long wait. We will go back and I highly recommend this place. Not sure of normal prices, but for $23 apiece and a $5 mimosa, this was a wonderful brunch experience!!!!"

  • "Loved taking my two adult daughters for Easter Brunch which was a special fixed rate menu. Menu items were broad enough for one to order based on their personal taste. Service was wonderful and the head chef/owner was visible in the dining room interacting with guests. I ordered lamb and my only complaint was that it could have used a little more seasoning. Otherwise after tasting my daughter's fish and prime rib, they were exceptional! Crème Brule' was Wonderful!! Lovely atmosphere and conducive to conversation with that special someone. "

  • "The food was just okay, and they seemed to be very understaffed for Easter Sunday. It seemed as though our waitress forgot about our table, as her other tables that arrived after us had paid and left before we were even served dessert."

  • "We have had dinner at Aquitaine twice. Both times, the food was excellent and nicely presented, and the prices were quite reasonable for the quality. Both times, also, there was a painfully long wait for the entrees although we had told the server we had a 7:30 pm curtain time (the Greenhouse Theater Center is just down the street). "

  • "We picked it for dinner because we were going to the Greenhouse Theatre for a play that evening; the theater is just a few doors down Lincoln. The reviews I read were good. It turned out to be wonderful in terms of both food, service and ambiance. Except desserts. Our group of 4 had rabbit stuffed house made ravioli, trout and a pork shoulder braise all of which were excellent. Our salad of poached pears and greens was also very good. I would definitely go back to try other dishes next time we're in the neighborhood for the theater."

  • "The service was a bit slow (I don't think they're used to large groups... it is a small, more intimate place that I imagine people go to on dates), but the food was really good!! We weren't in a rush, so the slowness wasn't a big deal, and we were still treated very well!"

  • "Typical french food, like duck breast and creme brulee done very well. The potato leek soup was rich and flavorful. The salmon entree had a very nice sweet glaze crust and was done to a perfect medium rare. The duck breast was solid. The creme brulee was nice and light with fresh, ripe strawberries on top. It was served while the caramelized top was still warm. The multi-layer cake was rich and light at the same time and had a nice cookie base. Service was very friendly."

  • "Atmosphere is wonderful as is the food. The appetizers are quite large and definately enough to share. Great choices on the menu and all looks great. The salmon was wonderful and very tasty. My husband had the duck breast and said it was the best he has had as far as preparation."
