Diner Reviews
  • "Rabbit ravioli, braised pork shoulder, salmon...all were excellent! Small restaurant with attention to detail. Nice wine selection. Very good service. Would go there again!"

  • "OMG this place was amazing! The food was WONDERFUL!!!!!! The food was fresh, VERY well prepared, the presentation was EXCELLENT, served at the perfect temperature! The ambiance was great, our server was FANTASTIC! All this from a "self proclaimed Foodie"" We used a Groupon, and are recommending it to everyone who asks, even some who haven't ;) We can't stop RAVING about it"

  • "Sad that there are too few restaurants around the Greenhouse Theatre. This one is hugely pricey, and the food truly unworthy and in mini-portions: I had a desiccated, dry 1/2 trout (I imagine the rest of it must have shriveled), a smoky mushroom soup that smelled of shoes, a small lump of tolerable mashed potatoes, and an unappetizing, likewise unpleasantly fragrant Asian-spiced spinach. Another of our friends had short ribs. In most restaurants, it comes with sides. Not this. It came in a bowl, alone and unloved. NEVER again."

  • "Me and my boyfriend had reservations for 8:30 pm because we planned on going to see a movie before dinner. Luckily we got out of the movies and headed to the restaurant and they were able to take us early. The waitress was very nice and she gave us seats next to the window. Everything from the appatizer, to dinner then dessart was very delicious!!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone especially couples."

  • "Our older daughter bought a Group on for my wife for Monster's day to go to Aquitaine. It was for the 3 course prix fixe dinner. the selections were good and we both found items were were interested in. The portions were ample and well prepared. The preparation was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinners. We certainly plan to go back, especially because it is in our neighbord and easy to walk to. We are adding this to our list of French restaurant that we tend to frequent."

  • "We were looking for a restaurant close to the Apollo theater for a pre-show dinner. Aquitaine was our find, and what a success. The staff was friendly and the food outstanding. We were there on a beautiful summer evening, so ambiance was a little easier, but I think this place would be great even in the winter. Quiet, relatively small dining area - great for a romantic evening. We recommend Aquitaine completely."

  • "It was very convenient to the theatre. But we told our waitress that we were going to theatre, but she waited too long to order our entrees."

  • "Our group of four ate here before a 2:30pm Sunday show at the Greenhouse Theater. Delicious food and great ambience and service. We will definitely return."

  • "very cool neighborhood restaurant. Nothing pretentious or trendy about it. The food speaks for itself. Fantastic foie gras, duck, and incredibly affordable wine list. If you like homemade french bistro food, you"ll probably love it."

  • "Very small, but comfortable seats and table, if not fully occupied. The food is spectacular and the drinks interesting and delicious, but expensive."

  • "Went because we found a reasonably priced Groupon with a good prefix menu. The food was really good!"

  • "Had a great time. The food was delicious, the servers were extremely friendly and helpful. Really cozy atmosphere with big open doors at the front letting in a nice evening breeze. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! You will not be disappointed."

  • "This place has awesome food. The Duck Breast was simply amazing! The service was not bad but not good either. It really just needs a little fine tuning. Used a groupon and had to pick from a limited menu, but that did notean limited food quality."

  • "We had a lovely meal at Aquitane. The hostess is the mother of the chef (her daughter) and the sou chef (her son). Excellent service. Well priced for the quality and portion size. Would definitely return."

  • "The pork dish was excellent. I had the scallops appetizer on a bed of shrimp risotto, also lovely although a little less pea puree might have also made the dish better. I found it a bit overwhelming paired with the seafood."

  • "Service was awful. One waiter for entire restaurant on a SATURDAY night. Food was good although the onion soup had way too much cheese and bread in it and not enough soup. It was in a cup size portion. Waiter mixed up the bill. However the knucci was worth going there for."

  • "Food is very good, however the service is awkward…had to wait for silverware and the staff seems to disappear often. It is shame. Wine list could be improved"

  • "I plan to move to Chicago at some point and I can see this being my weekly regular spot. It's just lovely in EVERY way!!! The food is INCREDIBLE, service is very attentive, the decor is beautiful. If you love a quiet, relaxing, intimate restaurant to wind down and enjoy a fabulous meal, this is the place to park yourself!"

  • "This is a very nice neighborhood type restaurant. Food is good and the staff are very polite. courteous and attentive to your needs. I would recommend trying if you are in the area."

  • "We had a complicated night with college graduations and cancelled flights, this was our only family meal. The server was understanding and helpful. The food was delicious. Saffron mussels, salads, salmon, short ribs, vegetable tart, all yummy. The peach bread pudding was worth every calorie. Originally our youngest was, then wasn't, then was coming and they packaged and unpackaged her dinner gracefully. Support this restaurant, great food and good hosts!"

  • "I would have given 3 stars if I was reviewing its dinner service. Like the dinner food much better. But had terrific mimosas."

  • "This was my second time at Aquitaine, but the first time for the other 3 people in my party. Everyone loved it. The woman who ordered duck said it was some of the best she's ever had, and her husband wanted to return soon so he could order it for himself, although he did really enjoy his short ribs too. This is an intimate dining experience and you can taste the love that goes into every dish. The waitress was even able to whip up an outstanding chocolate martini for my husband even though it isn't a drink normally offered there. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Good food and service fantastic; had a Groupon and well worth $60 for two 3-course meals. One of the best desserts I have ever had. I highly recommend the Amber Cake! The drink I had was also fabulous; I can't remember the name, but it had Prosecco and vanilla, fig, pepper syrup. Delicious!"

  • "The ambiance was good, especially for my elderly parents who can't handle too much noise. But the service, although not un-courteous, was slow and felt unpolished. I do credit them for replacing a spilled drink for free. But it took too long to order and the food arrived somewhat sporadically. For the main courses, the meats were piping hot (and quite good) but the sides were cool or even cold- very inconstant. Tables took too long to clear and they felt short-staffed."

  • "Go during the evening on weekdays if you enjoy getting a chance to talk to wonderful staff. The food was flavorful and expertly prepared. Beautiful decor complemented this experience and ensured a return visit from my girlfriend and I. "

  • "We love this place. We keep coming back as is always good food, good wine, friendly service and consistently so. We just wish they had air conditioning when it gets too warm and humid."

  • "Discovered Aquitaine on a cold January day and was won over by their scrumptious mushroom soup. Went this time for Mother's Day expecting a nice quiet early evening. There was a large loud party but they didn't really detract from the experience. Service was so friendly and good. Food was delicious--duck crepe (a perfect size for lunch entree), salmon and baby kale, filet, trout, beet salad with arugula, and salted caramel cake. Portions are ample--we even took food home. Aquitaine has a very intimate feel that we like."

  • "We had a lovely late mother's day brunch at Aquitaine. The food was good; the servers were attentive; we enjoyed the $5 mimosas. And the restaurant was quiet, we could talk, and we stayed for a long time. We had never eaten there before, and we will definitely be back. "

  • "I was in town for Mother's Day weekend and chose to have dinner with my sons at Aquitaine. It's located in the busy bar scene on Lincoln Ave., and is fairly small so reservations are recommended. The French food was wonderful at reasonable prices, the service was friendly and attentive. Great value!"

  • "The perfect place to eat before a show at the Greenhouse Theatre and the only grown-up restaurant on that particular strip of Lincoln Ave. Just far enough away from the crazed and drunken college bars up the street. A handsome little bar. A warm and inviting dining room. And the food is just wonderful. A nice variety of salads, apps and entrees, and great options for Vegetarian and Pescatarian diners! The wine list is well put together and moderately priced. They know how to make a cocktail. And the service is friendly and attentive. Also great for a quiet glass of something after the theatre has gotten out. (And I think they even throw a nice discount to the theatre goers...keep your ticket stub!) "

  • "my husband and I celebrated a romantic dinner here for my birthday, it was small inside but that added to the ambiance. The food was outstanding, we had a Groupon for here and had the "Prix five" menu. The food portions were small but we prefer that and the quality of the food was amazing. The service was good too. The only thing was it was a little noisy with a large group there but otherwise it was amazing."

  • "We ate Easter dinner at the restaurant. Surprised that there was only one wait person on duty. She did a good job but clearly the restaurant missed the mark in not having additional staff that evening. Food was good but not particularly memorable. Desserts were a disappointment."

  • "The service was cheerful but the food, undistinguished. We would not return, even though it is convenient to theatre."

  • "Loved taking my two adult daughters for Easter Brunch which was a special fixed rate menu. Menu items were broad enough for one to order based on their personal taste. Service was wonderful and the head chef/owner was visible in the dining room interacting with guests. I ordered lamb and my only complaint was that it could have used a little more seasoning. Otherwise after tasting my daughter's fish and prime rib, they were exceptional! Crème Brule' was Wonderful!! Lovely atmosphere and conducive to conversation with that special someone. "
