Aquitaine BisThis was our first time atThis was our first time at this location. Usually we go to the one in the South End. I have to say, that if I have the choice I'll go to Chestnut Hill. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The tables are well spaced so that you don't feel like you are eaves dropping on the adjacent table. The menu selections were very enticing. A lovely time was had by all.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional Chestnut Hill food!Aquitane's (Chestnut Hill section of Newton, MA, on Route 9 eastbound) is delicious and festive, both for special occasions or for making an ordinary night festive. Lemon sole, grilled hangar steak, & 'frites' (gourmet French fries) were particularly delicious choices. A friend's Escargots arrived bubbling cheerfully in a lovely garlic butter. Great beet salad & Brussels sprouts, too. Newly reopened lux movie theatre is walking distance too, creating a fun playdate. Restaurant also less than a mile from Chestnut Hill Mall (Bloomingdales, Crate & Barrel, etc.) Two red flags though: Probably need reservation for Aquitane's, & it is a spendy treat.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMMostly positive dining experienceGreat food. Waitress had no information about 2 entrees--said it was new menu. Red wines by glass limited. Meritage was spoiled-gone to vinegar. So the beverage staff could do a better job with quality control. I assume the bottle had been open too long. Good is usually excellent but the ambience and service is less exciting.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDespite both steak ordersDespite both steak orders being prepared to the wrong degree of doneness, we enjoyed our dining experience. Service was attentive, wine selection was very good. We would go again.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways solidThis is an unpretentious restaurant that consistently delivers excellent food. Its decor and ambience are upscale without feeling stiff and overdone. There is no TV at the bar, which I consider a plus.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFrench bistro dining at its bestI had chicken w/ sausage and vegetables. The vegetables were done perfectly! Turnips, peas, lots of carrots. The sausage and the sauce were perfect spicing complements to the chicken and vegetables. I asked for a pairing from my waiter. He recommended a pinot grigio. At first taste, it seemed odd, but with the food, it was perfect. Waiter was experienced, attentive, fun, and not condescending or solicitous. The ambiance felt friendly and European. Looking forward to the next visit.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is well prepared andFood is well prepared and authentc. Service on our evening visits has been quite good but we had a hic up with it at lunch the other day. The Manager personally took the time to explain to us that she was unexpectedly short handed and assured us that she was sorry,it wouldn't happen again and she then allowed a reasonable credit to make up for the inconvenience.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLove our monthly trip to thisLove our monthly trip to this location. Better now that they've hired another excellent waiter I know from a different locale.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was very comfortable andIt was very comfortable and convenient.

You can be assured of a quiet and relaxing meal.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNice lunch menuWe had a fine lunch at Aquitaine. Previously we had been for dinner only. The menu was varied and interesting. I chose a combo lunch with a fine french onion soup, a delicious garden salad, and half a well filled lobster roll, The ambience is fine for a quiet lunch.
The service was haphazard.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the second time IThis was the second time I had a very pleasant meal at Aquitaine Bis. Nice ambiance, good service and food. It wasn't a write-home-about-it place, but it was very comfortable and relaxes and the food and wine were good.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA real French Bistro, veryA real French Bistro, very nice people, great French fries.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFine restaurant. Our waiter, Julio, and busperson, Charlie, were fabulous... so attentive and right on top of everything. It felt like we had two first class waiters. Our only complaint was that the spaetzel was super salty.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother excellent dinner withAnother excellent dinner with Carolyn as our server!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the new menu. Bring back the tuna tartare for appetizer for dinner.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI just love hanging and theI just love hanging and the bar and eating the best food!!!!!! Thank you...3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAquitane Boston (SOuth End)Aquitane Boston (SOuth End) or Aquitane Chestnut Hill are always a reliable bet.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFrench bistro in NewtonThe newly revamped menu seemed to offer fewer choices of main courses (no duck, for instance), but the quality was high. Steak frites au poivre was excellent, veal schnitzel was good. Soupe a l'oignon was tasty but could have been hotter; it had probably been baked before the order was placed. The decor and atmosphere are very reminiscent of a Paris bistro. The wine list has several good choices for less than $40.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMI have eaten numerous timesI have eaten numerous times at Aquitaine and the food is always very good and tasty.
They have a limited lunch menu, but you can always find something. The onion soup is delicious.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBy far this is our favoriteBy far this is our favorite restaurant when we do not feel like going in to Boston. Fabulous food, especially the mussels...best I've had anywhere. Great steak, delicious french fries. This restaurant has a perfect match of delicious food, great ambiance, great wine. We really do love this place. We love the Aquitaine in the South End also but for a delicious dinner close by during the week we are always happy with this restaurant. We have always had a great experience.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, but small portionsThis has been one of our favorite restaurants for a long time. Food is excellent, service is friendly and attentive.
Lately, however, the portions are getting smaller and smaller. The salads are small, and the main dishes have extremely small portions of vegetables. I will think twice about choosing this restaurant, especially if I'm feeling very hungry.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for brunch on a Saturday. We went for brunch on a Saturday. What a nice treat. The food was wonderful, and our server took extra care of a special needs guest we had with us.2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother enjoyable visit, busyAnother enjoyable visit, busy place by 6pm, but everything was smooth and flawless as usual :)2/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFun revisit. These were among the BEST I've ever had.Get extra bread for dunking in the sauce! For the Main, I had a special:a split Filet Mignon stuffed with Lobster. Very good, perhaps a bit more rare, but very good. Richard had the Duck A L'Orange. This was very good, but he's had better. for Desserts Richard had the Apple Tarte Tatin..this was good but he's had/made much better. I had the Pain Perdu..Kind of an exotic fench toast, but my God!! Was it outstanding. Really recommend this, it's really worth it.Overall a very good meal & worth the price. Highly recommend the place.1/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a very nice meal andWe had a very nice meal and enjoyed the service by Chantelle. The Sole and the Schnitzel tasted great !12/15/2012 12:00:00 AM
