Very nice restaurant, foodVery nice restaurant, food was really delicious and unusual!
I got a lot of amazing complimentary appetizers !5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGemThe new Nordic cuisine is all the rage nowadays, and surely thousands of New Yorkers would give an arm and a leg to go experience it there. I can't say how Aquavit compares to Noma, and Aquavit probably doesn't want to be - but they engage the same flavor profiles that everyone seems to love now - and should. Pickles, alliums, dairy and bitter herbs were all huge features of the Aquavit menu, and I loved the way they enhanced and/or countered the main component of the majority of the dishes I was served. To my mind, not enough people know how great this restaurant is. I try to shy away from value judgments, but the food I was served was categorically better than 2-star NY Times and 1-star Michelin food.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFit for a Nordic kingFood and service were spectacular, with a definitely Scandinavian slant. I have eaten there several times over the past 20 years, and they are doing as great as ever.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMflavor profiles are complexflavor profiles are complex but coherent.. dishes are elegantly composed. knowledgeable and sensible staff.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI haven't been to this restaurantI haven't been to this restaurant in a long time.. and it did not disappoint.
Wonderful food; great additions from the Chef and an overall lovely dining experience.
Will be back soon!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI hadn't been to Aquavit inI hadn't been to Aquavit in over 8 years and didn't even realized that they had moved. Their current location is beautiful and very comfortable.
The food is eclectic, but amazing if you have a welcoming palate.
The only warning is that it is very, very expensive. Not sure I would go there on my own dime, but it is good on an expense account for clients.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb imaginative menu. FlawlessSuperb imaginative menu. Flawless service. Great value.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a resturant that surpassedThis is a resturant that surpassed our wildest expectations for service, food, and presentation. The 8 course tasting menu paired with wines is very expensive, but also very much worth it for a "once in a lifetime" gastronomic experience. Mini "surprizes" - tiny appetizers- are presented one after another before the meal, with unbelievable ingredient combinations and creativity we have never seen even at 5 star resturants. The tasting menu portions are just right, with all flavors complementing each other. Desert is fabulous- Artic Bird's Nest- (not real eggs), but frozen ice cream in a hand spun cracker web that is totally delicious. We did not have the world famous Sweedish Meatballs, but we will be back for those. Excellent Service4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMI will definitely be backI will definitely be back to try other dishes! A very quiet room with unsurpassed service level. Never felt they were rushing me to order or pay while there were people waiting for a table.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMy GF and I had one of ourMy GF and I had one of our all time favorite meals at Aquavit this past Saturday night. From the incredibly attentive and pleasant wait staff to the inventive, bright, fresh, and beautifully presented food, we were incredibly pleased with the whole evening. We will definitely return for the tasting menu!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDelectable artRare is it that every course of a tasting menu is a winner. At Aquavit, each course was artfully presented and creatively conceived. This was somewhat expected as " Nordic foraging" seems to be the latest trend. What set this meal apart was that each and every item had a part to play not only in the presentation but to the tastebuds as well. The cocktails were a masterpiece in that each ingredient seemed to be measured to perfection. The bread was so hearty it could provide sustenance for a month in a Nordic winter. The broth surrounding the poached quail egg was heavenly. The foie gras was absolute perfection.
In a nutshell trendy beautiful presentation with even more impressive taste combinations4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat serviceAmazing service and food. We did the chef tasting with wine pairing & they were very accommodating when we requested a table change. You will not be disappointed.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMKeeps getting better and better!Keeps getting better and better! Chef Jernmark is really pushing the boundaries, showing he deserved that Michelin star (and maybe another!)4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent and very interestingExcellent and very interesting food. My girlfriend and I aren't the type with enormous vocabularies to describe food-and this is the sort of place that deserves that-but we really enjoyed everything we had. Also, as a displaced Minnesotan of Norwegian descent I appreciated all the Akevitt (the proper Norwegian spelling). Can't wait to go back!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVery fine dining - everythingVery fine dining - everything was prepared to perfection and delicious! Will definitely be back :)4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMTrue Culinary artThe food where in all courses masterpieces from the ingredients, cooking techniques to the presentation4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMatthew, both our server andMatthew, both our server and Somm, was outstanding. Gracious and unobtrusive, he enhanced our experience.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMVastly exceeded expectations!I hadn't been here in maybe 20 years. Wow has it changed--the food is amazingly inventive, including several elements of molecular gastronomy, plus the service is excellent.
We shared two great apps, the herring which was very good and the stunning grilled gravlax which was astoundingly good. It includes shaved fois gras which was roasted, frozen, and apparently shaved or microplaned; It had a great flavor that really complemented the dish (not just a gimmick--it worked!). They also served an amuse bouche of white asparagus soup served over white asparagus that served with smoke(!). I had the squab which was one of the best I've had. The creme brule was a wonderful dessert.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMunrelated to food qualityunrelated to food quality - the mobile app cited a 1,000 point credit for reservation, but i only got 100. can we fix? thanks.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSomething Special!Aquavit is a delight with a surprise. The food is beautifully presented and melts in your mouth. It is impossible to be disappointed.
I/we look forward to our next visit. We noticed an attractive young woman enjoying a meal by herself......
Aquavit makes that possible.
If you are traveling alone treat yourself!
The bar is welcoming and a wonderful place to meet .
Our next visit will be to enjoy the evening at Aquavit without rushing off to the theatre!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen was the last time youWhen was the last time you thought, "let's try something different tonight?" How about Norwegian/Swedish food? The menu was not extensive, but the food was very good and not the same old same old. Excellent service - explained the dishes clearly and did not over sell. A great one to mix in to the midtown NY restaurant rotation.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a destination restaurantThis is a destination restaurant that deserves its Michelin Star; it was an outstanding experience all round! The food was exceptional in every way and the opportunity to sample a fantastic array of Aquavit liquers was not to be missed.3/2/2013 12:00:00 AMOf the 40+ restaurants I'veOf the 40+ restaurants I've been to in NYC within the past year (mostly upscale and/or Michelin starred), Aquavit would be my choice if faced with a hypothetical "Pick one." scenario. At, or near, the top of all of my "lists". Absolutely spectacular.2/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food and serviceOutstanding food and service despite a blizzard outside!2/8/2013 12:00:00 AMphenomenalAquavit, amazingly enough as the bar was set high to begin with, has actually improved over the course of a few visits. This past dinner, Chef Jernmark truly outdid himself, IMHO. What an absolutely fantastic evening!12/22/2012 12:00:00 AM
