Michelin-starred Aquavit showcases Chef Marcus Jernmark's expression of seasonal, Modern Nordic fare. Located in Midtown Manhattan, Aquavit has been a pioneer of Nordic cuisine since opening 25 years ago. The restaurant has an extensive wine list as well as an aquavit infusion and cocktail program. At lunch we offer an a la carte menu and a 3-course prix fixe for $42pp. At dinner we offer an a la carte menu, a 5-course seasonal tasting menu for $95pp and a 8-course chef's tasting menu for $135pp. Continued

  • "Was travelling alone in NYC and decided to treat myself. I ordered the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. The decor could use a little bit of updating (especially the dining room ceiling which was very office-like), but it was more than made up for through the very attentive (but not intrusive) service and inventive food, from the playful plating, to the flavour combinations, and the interesting ingredients. My personal favourites were the uni and perigord truffle, the wagyu, and the gorgeous "arctic bird's nest" for dessert.The wine pairings were also creative, bringing in things like sake, mead, and "orange wine" Highly recommended for anyone who wants a different fine dining experience from "the same old cuisine"."

We are American but of Danish ancestry and always looking/yearning for delicious, fresh, inventive Scandinavian cuisine -- well, let me say, after so many years -- the food has never been better!! Marcus Samuelson has put a gifted Chef in place and together with his cooking team and a fabulous wait staff, this was an amazing dining experience.   • "You'll never get fat with these smart portions Had the prix fixe. Unimpressed with the lobster salad but enjoyed the bouillabaisse very much. Seafood was very fresh and was delicious. Still trying to figure out exactly what my dessert was, but the chocolate and pistachio portion Made up for the tan life jacket plastic pastry that surrounded it."

  • "This was our third visit and each time it has declined. We always order the chef tasting menu with wine pairing. I was always short poured and could not eat two of the courses. We were never asked how we like a course. At 265.00 per person one should be satisfied and not disappointed."

  • "It has been a year since I dined at Aquavit. I have missed a lot. The kitchen is delivering a continual parade of artful, delicious courses with hidden surprises and unique flavors. The staff seems genuinely excited to share what they know is going to be a memorable experience. I chose wines by the glass which were quite good; however, I would have liked to have had some choices among more full bottle offerings that were modestly priced. I'm going back next month as I don't want to miss out as Aquavit achieves even greater recognition. Bravo!"

  • "It was too late in the day and we were too tired, so we ordered from the regular menu, but I'm hoping I can return to NYC and to aquavit soon to try the chefs tasting, it seemed really good. Food is absolutely exquisite and the care and preparation dispensed to each dish makes you feel like you are tasting something that was really tested and it is the best version of that dish possible."

  • "We visited Aquavit on a Monday evening over a holiday, so traffic was quite light. Our host Nathaniel was eminently professional, polished and precise, and the waitstaff followed his lead. We sampled the chef's tasting menu, which was comprised of a farflung assortment of tastes and textures. Sometimes the ingredient descriptions were too detailed and quickly repeated to comprehend, but certain dishes stood out: the foie gras surrounded by a sphere of marinated beet was particularly remarkable. I only give four stars for the food because there should always be room left to strive higher -- no one gets five. The check was not for the faint of heart, but dinners at Aquavit are better left as a rare indulgence, anyway."

  • "While the atmosphere of this place was great the food was just OK and the prices were insane. My boyfriend and I went to Aquavit on Valentine's Day and it was a fixed menu. The portions were small, but that would have been ok if the food blew me away, but it didn't. The meal was about $150 per person, and with a bottle of wine the bill came to over $500. The food being just ok paired with the fact that the portions were so small that we were not even really full at the end of the meal and that we paid so much money made the experience pretty negative. On a more positive note, this would be an awesome place to have drinks with friends. The wine list was great and they had a number of other drinks at the bar that looked delicious."

  • "It was a great Valentine's dinner. Ambience such as interior and lighting were not my tasty but food itself concluded the arguments. Except dessert, every dish was pretty impressive. Lamb Tartare was tasty and following salmon with foie gras was fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant and hope to visit one more time on different event day."

  • "Two unaccountable service issues: Our white wine arrived room temperature, and our waiter poured us an inch at a time while it sat on ice and got to the right temperature. Then, my appetizer was delivered and whisked away. It returned 5 minutes later when the staff relaized that I was not the one who had the food allergy. The food was nicely fancy and fun but really wasn't spectaular."

  • "My lunch consisted of a Holland Herring appetizer, followed by a truffled porcini/barley risotto and a smoked vanilla creme brulee. A flax-encrusted cracker and three forms of bread laid the foundation. A fine Riesling provided mild intoxication. It was completely satisfying and avoided the theatrical excesses which seem to be the rage these days in fine New York restaurants. A calm and well-designed room in the front of the restaurant. Smooth service."

  • "Having dined in top restaurants around the world, I found this little known restaurant worthy of a Michelin star and very close in my mind to being of two Michelin star potential. Food was well presented and plates very stylish and not huge American portions. Inventive mix of colour , flavours and aromas. The three course meal we had pleasantly surprised us as each plate was presented. A must for lovers of high end European style food from an obviously imaginatiheft alerted chef."

  • "We were very excited to discover that we could continue our Xmas tradition of having a Julbord even though we were going to be in the US. The food wine beer and aquavit most certainly did not disappoint though did not equal the a Grand Hotel in Stockholm! The atmosphere was rather chilly but what spoilt it all was the service . Having confirmed our table at least. 5 times we were still left standing as if we had barged in with no reservation. Once at our table we were not served till we finally asked for service. Even then drinks were slow to come and we even had to ask for bread when we noticed other tables had some. I had a broken arm and unlike other restaurants I was offered no help"

Food was ok, but selection was not varied enough and not what I would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. The food reminded me of resort hotels or cruise ships. Service was friendly but not all staffers were attentive. Bread was terrible. Since this was a special menu for this day only I could not comment on how the food is here ordinarily"

  • "Seldom do I say or write negative things about a restaurant, as I usually find some good, however, Aquavit is an exception. Last night's dinner was the singular worst meal I have ever had. Plus the buffet location was such that we had to walk an obstacle course just to find it. Yes, it was a buffet, but there is no excuse for serving schlock on Christmas Eve and charging for it. Perhaps had we been seated in the dining room, things may have been better, but alas we were caste into a back room that had no warmth or style. I remember the old Aquavit with the water fall in the West 50's, which I enjoyed, but this time round will be my last."

  • "We hadn't been to Aquavit since it moved and Marcus Samuelsson left, so weren't sure what to expect. We were delighted to find both the service and the food to be top notch. Our meals were notable for the many and somewhat unusual flavors combined on a single plate. The many amuse bouche offerings were an added treat. Quite pricey, but worth every penny."

We loved the food which is a mix of traditional mostly Scandinavian dishes prepared in a modern way: they are a true example of successful international cuisine. They have a great winelist with some real gems which make the dining experience very special. Service was in one word outstanding. A must for diners who love an exceptional experience in food/wine pairings. We will be back soon!"

  • "This was our first time at Aquavit but it won't be our last. Outstanding food and attentive service. We ordered the chef's tasting menu, which consisted of nine courses, but then add in the seven extra amuse bouches so there were 16 small plates of wonderful food. No one left hungry, that's for sure. The sommelier was also very knowledgeable and the restaurant has a nice wine list. Overall a great experience."

  • "Not having been to Aquavit for a few years I wondered if perhaps it may have lost its mojo. On the contrary - it's perhaps better than ever. Terrific staff, classic Scandinavian interior design, and Swedish cuisine that presents classic dishes in the most interesting, wonderful and delicious manner! And your meal will be intrjected with unique tastings prepared by the chef that are - in a word - incredible. A dining experience here is memorable for all the best reasons."

  • "We throughly enjoyed or lunch at Aquavit - and they happily seated and served our 2 year old as well. It doesn't hurt that she loves Swedish meatballs - but they were very accommodating of having her along for lunch - and all three of us enjoyed everything we had. While the meatballs are a must and the house made infused Aquavits are extremely good (go for a flight!) I think the highlight of the meal was my wife's Cucumber and Kale salad - the frozen buttermilk dressing (served table side) adds an unforgettable flair to perhaps the tastiest salad we have ever had - and that is saying a lot! Bravo and yes, we will be back!"

It seems as if the chef and his staff must have had much fun thinking of the unique ways to present their unique dishes. Each bite was absolutely creative and delectable. Would highly, highly recommend this restaurant. The restaurant also provided many complimentary extra tastes and treats that made for a truly wonderful dining experience.   • "We (world traveler senior ladies) missed the old Aquavit. My title says it all. What we ate was tasty and attractive but all the extras and platters were just too pretentious and unnecessarily fussy. Also, the goal seemed to be to prepare the small 's'amuse bouches' with unusual components and then give the waiter the opportunity to explain the contents and their preparation. When the vegetable with the fish is stated as cauliflower it was hard to find. The flowerette was the size of a large pea. Only for Foodies who like to say they have been there, done that."

  • "I celebrated my weeding anniversary at Aquavit. It was the worst food I ever had - literally the worst. We had a chefs menu which is about eight courses, and only first course fish roe/parsnip soup was very good. Otherwise, everything else was uneatable. I'm a foodie and love to try different thing but this was just horrible. We were there for 3.5 hours - the service was confused which table to serve first - every dish was served by somebody else - total mess. For $400/2pp I would expect to have pleasantly memorable experience. Unfort, I can't say that."

  • "Aquavit is a special place, insanely expensive - I think one of my largest bills for dinner in NYC ever, and that is saying a lot. My only issue is that there is simply too much food. It becomes overwhelming, and almost a bit of a turn off. Otherwise the service is amazing, it is a very calm and quiet environment, and relaxing."
