Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was delicious and the river view was good even though it started to rain watching it come in and leave was nice."

  • "Really enjoyed the music that was played and sung by the band. Unfortunately, the volume was excessive because of the confined space. It could be much better if the band was moved forward and the dining tables placed in the bar area."

  • "Especially enjoyed the Equinox Jazz Band, which was the reason we booked this reservation. The food was very good, but the real star was the band. We'll come again for one of their monthly Monday night rehearsals; it was a lot of fun!"

  • "We are a traveling foursome, and chose this venue from an ad touting Jazz Brunch. Everyone loved the ambiance, food, and service-with one small exception: we arrived half hour early for our reservation (choosing noon to allow for church service to end and possible traffic). There were only two other groups ahead of us at 11:30, but we were told we must wait so they could seat all the early reservations first. Fine, but even with an empty waiting area, we had to wait until noon! Some couples without reservations were turned away although we never saw the restaurant full. Once seated, our experience was great: food choices wer plentiful and gourmet-tasty. Service was consistent and the jazz was pleasant. Loved it."

  • "This is a lovely restaurant with great ambiance. We had a brunch reservation, but arrived early. They seated us right away. We ordered breakfast, which was decent. As we were leaving, they began setting up for brunch, and boy, I wish we had waited for brunch because it looked as though it would be delicious. The prices were reasonable, the service okay, and the food decent."

  • "Delightful brunch for a special Occasion. The jazz band was great and the perfect sound level. The buffet was well presented and well stocked and diverse. Everything we tried exceeded our expectionatiins. We will return."

  • "The Westin Hotel overlooking the Savannah River has one of largest and varied buffet spread that is bound to satisfy anyone's taste and hunger. Also the soft playing trio added to the dining pleasure. It is not cheap, but was great for entertaining out of town guests."

  • "The food was everything I had hoped for and expected. The seafood -fish, shrimp, oysters were my favorite."

  • "Online menu had additional offerings that the restaurant didn't have. The breakfast menu is the same as any other Westin. Food was tasty and enjoyable but was expecting more options."

  • "The Sunday brunch was excellent and the jazz trio was superb. An excellent, relaxing, and enjoyable way to spend a Sunday morning."

  • "We've visited AquaStar for years - first as Savannah residents and now as visitors from over an hour's drive away. Never a bad experience, always amazing fooe, always superb service. On a 10-scale, we give it a 12."

  • "The ride over from Savannah on the ferry was great. We missed one ferry and called the restaurant to let them know that we would be late. It was not a problem. We were welcomed upon our arrival and seated at a window overlooking the river to Savannah. There was a big-band that performed and they were outstanding. Pretty laid back group that mingled with the guests during their breaks. The food was delicious and my dietary restrictions were accommodated. One of the best nights that we spent during our week-long visit."

  • "Generally, I few hotel restaurants as a last resort, but we were surprised by the quality of the food and service. We will definitely return. If available, try the chef's tasting."

  • "The ambience and atmosphere was great. The views of the river were very good if you sit at a window table. I was there for restaurant week and thought they would be trying to impress, but I was not impressed. They prepared high class food to a chain restaurant level. Tried both options for restaurant week and there was nothing special about either."

  • "Everything about our dining experience was great. The food, service and view were all outstanding. The ceiling fans were a hoot. Very clever."

  • "I needed a special spot for a romantic dinner, but we'd "done" all the usual fancy restaurants downtown. What a GREAT idea AquaStar was! not only was it not overly crowded and noisy, but it was serene and we were able to really take our time and enjoy all three courses at a slower pace. The service was exceptional! Ask for Cara if you go - she's wonderful: educated about the menu, the fresh local ingredients used, and she made thoughtful suggestions throughout the meal. Taking a walk down to the waters edge after dinner was her idea - which turned out to be a great one."

  • "Food was great which made up for somewhat slower pace of service. But our wait person was pleasant and friendly. Even went the extra mile to find a special bar request. Would suggest however to make a reservation on opentable and be sure to request a "a table next to the window". I did not do that and we were set up further back and up a level."

  • "The restaurant is lovely and the view of the Savannah river front is beautiful. The food is very good and the service is also. The food came out a little slow and they comped our martinis even though we didn't complain about the wait nor ask for compensation."

  • "Both appetizers very good. Shrimp dish not what either of us who ordered it imagined.Description misleading. Presentation was a hodge-podge of toppings over grilled shrimp on a bed of yams. Okay, but nothing I would have knowingly ordered. Short rib choice excellent. Creme brulet excellent. Other dessert, a berry & ice cream offering was, again, poorly described on the menu & not the "light" choice imagined - almond brittle cover over melted ice cream with a meager portion of warm berries. Sir Michael left big shoes to fill. Encourage current chef to create special but not "weird" offerings & make descriptions more understandable. FYI, I dine out often & am an excellent gourmate cook, & consider my food knowledge well above average."

  • "The Jazz Brunch is the traditional brunch with both a full breakfast ( omelet bar ) and lunch ( steaks and pasta bar ) and very nice desserts. Dining room is very open with no crowding and the Jazz Group were a great addition."

  • "Expect fantastic food but service is inconsistent. 95% of the staff are great, but there is one or two of them that are sweet but awful servers. I would still go back, I would just ask for my favorite servers."

  • "They substituted spaghetti for my angel hair without telling me. Gave me my entree before my salad and soup. Did not have a wine list for me until I asked about wine. Asked for a lemon several times. Bus girl finally went to get me one."

  • "Nice view of Savannah River with ships going past. The corn chowder was delicious, as was the house bread served with the meal. Whole grain, moist, tasty, not dry like many whole grain breads."

  • "I found this spot online when I was planning a trip down. I love jazz & thought this would be a nice compliment to my dining experience. Added the free ferry ride for a bonus. It was an absolutely lovely day. Food was fabulous !!! Nice atmosphere !! Highly Recommend."

  • "Although we have had dinner here before, this is our first brunch experience at Aqua Star. Unfortunately, while service is supposed to begin at 11:30, staff was nowhere near ready at that time. Our 11:45 reservation was honored 15 minutes later. Fortunately, it was worth the wait. I have never seen such a wide variety of food offered at brunch, and our group thoroughly enjoyed it. The jazz ensemble added a nice, unobtrusive touch which did not interfere with conversation. Bread choices were somewhat limited, and I would have liked to have seen a wider array of fruit. But everything we ate was well-prepared and tasty."

  • "Sea bass is one of my favorite fish to splurg on for a special occasion. My seabass that night was not fresh. For $38 I expect fresh seabass. The menu stated that parmesan risotto came with the entree and it didn't come out that way and then she brought me a side of risotto that was thick and gummy. This restaurant was nice inside but it didn't have the polish or service that i expected it to have for the price. i would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "You'd get better service at a McDonalds or Wendys but this is pretty much the only restaurant on the island. So if you're hungry, plan ahead to take the ferry to River Street. From sitting down to getting our food the wait was 50 minutes (I know because my husband had to leave before eating his lunch). The waitresses are just lazy - they don't make eye contact so you end up having to walk up to them or yell as they walk by - which we did after being ignored 3 times. We were finally able to ask the waitress for waters and that took 20 minutes. There was also lipstick on my grandfathers water glass and our medium hamburger came back rare. All points that the waitress argued with us over."

  • "Highly recommend Aqua Star. Food top notch and high quality. Our server, Nelly, was probably the best service I have ever had. Friendly, knowledgable & professional. Romantic locale, with a primo view of the river! 5 stars-go and be amazed"

  • "I discovered that this brunch was rated #1 in Savannah according to the Visitors and Convention Bureau. Everything was excellent - food, table location, service, ambience and I would definitely go again. However, I printed out the page from the website that rated the brunch #1 and the price was $39.95. When we received the bill, the price was $42.00 so I politely asked our server who was great about it. She said she would send the Manager over. The Manager came and I politely informed her that it was not that I couldn't pay the $42 but that the price was $39.95 and I gave her the printout. She stated the $42 was incorrect and although she was professional, she did nothing to explain the difference besides the current price being correct."

  • "The noted knighted chef has departed, and the food service was very slow. The restaurant has always been consistent, and I hope that the new chef will continue to keep the menu creative."

  • "Restaurant had received great reviews and so we decided to try it on a Sunday night while in Savannah. To make a reservation, the restaurant had required a credit card number--so we expected a sold out venue; instead we were one of only 4 tables at Aqua Star. Our waitress was wonderful--excellent service and the She Crab soup was outstanding. The main course was a disappointment; I wanted to try the "house special, winner of xyz awards"; sorry about my luck--a large wedding party the night before apparently ate all the scallops in Southern Georgia! Instead I had the sword fish, which was greasy (not grilled) and my wife had the grouper, which was over cooked. Very disappointing."

  • "I have visited savannah twice and have eaten Sunday brunch here both times! It has always been well worth the exorbitant prices. I will say come hungry!! There are many options and you will want to eat your money's worth! Personally I like the French toast best. I have two reason for knocking it down to 4 stars. I have had a better brunch elsewhere. This one covers all the bases and is very standard and what you would expect. The one I enjoy more is a little more eclectic and a different more foodie brunch. Secondly both times I have been seated within 10 feet of the live jazz music making is a little hard to converse. Don't get me wrong I love the music, I would just like to sit a little further away. Overall a must visit!"
