Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed ourselves and will come back on our return to Duck, NC. Food was good. We especially liked our waitress, Christy S."

  • "Excellent service from a fantastic martini & wine menu. Somewhat limited food menu but everything was perfect."
    Dined on 7/14/2014
  • "For a restaurant that says it provides "tasty selections from Chef’s culinary masterpieces", the food was lacking in flavor and orginality. From the signature sweet corn and crab soup which tasted like creamed corn put through a blender with a few flakes of added crab, to the sweet pea risotto, which was more like a watery rice pilaf, this food had no soul. The restaurant has great views of the sound, so grab a drink and watch the sunset from their deck, but pass on the meal."

  • "I have been to Aqua before for their spa services, but a friend suggested we go for dinner out last night at the beach in Duck this year I ma so glad she did the drinks and view were great and the food was very, very good. We will definitely be back for dinner or lunch and now the boardwalk goes all the way to the restaurant."

  • "Cathy and I went here for dinner and just loved it. Food was great, wine was great, dessert was great!!!! We'll be back next year.."

  • "Aqua is an OBX tradition for us, but this visit left us disappointed. The food was uninspired, tired and boring. When you pay $32 for the same plate of food you can get dozens of other place for less, it should be something special. It was just okay. The setting is beautiful and the fact that they take reservations is huge, but our experience was as uninspired as the food. Not sure whether this tradition will continue for us."

  • "The food was great and the staff was very helpful and accommodating while we were picking out our appetizers and entrees. Highly recommend this place!"
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "Dinner was very nice. The drinks - Bloody Mary and martini - were great. Main dishes of Tilefish and Tuna were also excellent. Crab soup was great but had to send back the cucumber soup - it was just green water. Overall we had a nice evening just before evacuating the area ahead of hurricane arthur."

  • "Good service, but if the waiter had a little more personality...it would have been great service. The rest of the staff was very customer focused and appeared to be doing an outstanding job!!!!"

  • "As always, the ambience and view from the Aqua deck is unparalleled. We've dined more than a dozen times over three years. It is a "must do" when visiting Duck, NC."

  • "Setting and service were excellent. Very noisy inside. Outside setting is great but has picnic benches. Two people loved their food. One said the soft shells were not the best she ever had. The duck breast was tasty but arrived medium well when ordered rare to medium rare. However when that happened the manager comped the meal and gave a free dessert and coffee mug."

  • "We visit OBX every year in June and Aqua will always be on our list for an upscale dining option. The food and service were once again fabulous. Sweet corn and crab soup was the essence of sweet corn. Great entrees - duck, pasta with shrimp and andouille, steak - all expertly prepaired and delicious. Great wine options and reasonably priced. Quality wines by the glass so you don't have to buy a bottle to get something good, and everyone can get what they want to pair with their meal."

  • "Great experience. However, pricey for frequent visits."

  • "As always in our experience, the food was very good for every dish ordered. Service has always been excellent, but our server Monday night was superb. We are repeat customers for a very good reason: the dining experience is always outstanding."

  • "Aqua is a great choice in Duck. We went to both lunch and dinner, and we had great food and service both times. We had lunch outside and enjoyed the view, but beware the low tides as the water can smell, so just be prepared. Service and food were both top Notch and well worth the visit (we will go back many times). Dinner was also great food and great service. The tables inside are tightly arranged, and once the bar starts filling up (for us that was by 6:45 on a Friday), the noise level climbs. Ideally, it would be great if they could section off the bar from the main restaurant area so that diners did not have to compete. All in all, Aqua is well worth it and one of our top 3 when eating in Duck/Sanderling."

  • "I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant because of the good reviews. The reviews did not reflect the quality of what we got. While the view over the sound was lovely, a quiet dinner experience was not to be had. The dinning room is attached to the bar which was very noisy, so you are virtually sitting in the bar, like it or not. We ordered the soup de jour, which was green tomato. There were, what I believe, were celery stings throughout the soup. I got crab cakes which were made from claw meat, my husband got the pork chop, which was dry. The bill, with a $35 bottle of wine, was over $119. You can get much better food for cheaper prices in a better setting in at least a dozen other restaurants in the Banks."

  • "Our party had a fabulous dinner while enjoying the beautiful sunset at Aqua. It was a wonderful dining experience!!"

  • "Auqa has a great view, ask to be seated by a window if possible and time your reservation for sunset. Food was good, service prompt. Only complaint was the noise level. Tables are seated close together and it was noisy. Other than that we enjoyed our meal and would visit again. Dinner for 2 with 2 drinks each and no desert was 150. "

  • "Went on a weeknight for dinner, was seated at a table that overlooked the sound right before sunset. Absolutely beautiful. Our server was excellent, very personable and great at what she does. Apps, entrees, desserts, and drinks all came at a reasonable time and all were exquisite! The restaurant was clean and able to move through without disturbing other people dining. Servers worked well together also! Will be back soon for sure!!!"

  • "We had gone down to the Outer Banks for a few days for our anniversary. We selected this restaurant through Open Table for a nice meal and a special evening. The seating was nice, so we had high hopes. Tables are rather close together and there was a large table crammed behind us that was quite loud with kids running, all around. The adult women at that table were quite loud and not really caring about what the kids were doing. We still had great expectations for the food, the pimento cheese appetizer and the bread they served were okay. My husband and I selected two entirely different dishes, they were both mediocre. He had selected a pasta dish and the pasta was way overcooked, quite gummy. Not a pleasant experience, will not go back."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 15year anniversary here and we couldn't have been happier. Aqua is what all other restaurants try to be, but fail. The food, the service, the atmosphere, all were top notch. The prices are on the higher side but well worth it for a nice romantic dinner or special occasion. "

  • "My wife and I have eaten here several times now over a period of about three years. Outstanding food and service every time. Good wine list at a variety of price points. Noise level has never been less than moderate. If there is a large party towards the back of the indoor dining area, it can be loud. The rear outdoor seating, if the weather permits, provides great views as does the indoor seating along the picture windows."

  • "Try to get a table at sunset, the view is well worth it. The food is good enough to suit the setting."

  • "Lovely sunset view, and very good food to go along with it. Salads were fresh and delicious. Fish taco appetizer was a bit spicy, with more of an Asian twist, and very good. Tuna and mahi were also very good. Nice selection of wines by the glass, and beer on tap."

  • "The service was lacking and our swrver seemed confused. The scallop entree was flavorless and undercooked. I was quite disappointed."

  • "My husband and I chose to sit outside near the lake views. It was so calming to be near the water and being able to watch the sun set on our last day on vacation. Our waitress was great! She was attentive and kept our glasses full! Their Caesar salad was fresh and had great flavor [plus it was the perfect size!] and the Aqua Cosmo martini was divine. For the main course, I had their tuna with couscous. The tuna melts in your mouth and the flavors in the dish were far from boring. It was a flavor explosion for your mouth! I loved hearing the band play and the scene was pretty lively. Between the lovely ambiance, the food and staff it was a lovely experience."

  • "Soft shell crab appetizer was phenomenal. Main courses of tuna and mahi mahi were great. The mahi was moist and tasty."
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "A wonderful indoor dinner setting with great selections on the menu, intelligent and thoughtful service only disappointed by relocating band to the bar (due to imminent rain) and making dinner conversation impossible. Also be aware that the outside balcony tables can suffer from the waves of very smelly water borne residue accumulating under the balcony - be aware of wind direction !"

  • "Everything at Aqua works. Nice bar with innovative libations. Food is very good and service was impeccable. Very friendly staff. And don't miss the sunsets over the Sound. You'll enjoy it!"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "After enjoying Aqua since it opened, we were a bit disappointed this year. Not only did one of the owners leave but the menu took a turn for the worse. Also, even though it appears that sound baffles in parts of the ceiling, the restaurant is incredibly loud. Questionable if we'll return next year. One bright spot is that the servers, etc. were still spot on!"
    Dined on 5/8/2014
  • "We enjoyed our romantic dinner on the water at Aqua and would recommend it to others. We appreciated the vegan option on the menu and the service was great. The restaurant was quiet (early evening the beginning of May) and the view over the water was nice the day we were there."
    Dined on 5/2/2014
  • "I have no complaints for the exception of the time it took for the main courses to come out. Dirty Duck Martini was fantastic and the meals were phenomenal. Moderately expensive but worth it. "

  • "they put us in an area to be away from the other diners which was great for us and them. The waitress was wonderful. We all enjoyed our dinners and the wine we chose. Our table was ready when we arrived. We were 5 minutes late. I have also eaten brunch there and it was good too. "

  • "First trip to Aqua and we'll be back. Food was very good, our window table afforded us a terrific view of the sound and the sunset. Service was professional - never felt rushed, and our waitress always seemed to be near when we needed something. The only downer was no fault of Aqua's - there was a large party that night that was, to say the least, loud and annoying with their constant picture taking....."

  • "We have been coming here since Aqua opened several years ago, which is a sign of their pride in keeping up the quality. Companion had the shrimp lingunie in a cream sauce. I had the rock fish on special that night. Both dishes had great flavors. Onee-man acoustic music in the attached bar many evenings. Dine earlier if that is going to bother you. "

  • "Always love this place! Must go at sunset and request a table near the window!! If it's nice outside, you can eat outside and watch the sunset!! Service is impeccable!"

  • "A restaurant at the beach with a name like Aqua you would think there would be a lot of fish dishes. Not here, so we were disappointed in the options. Meal was fine, nothing special. Enjoyed the live music during the meal."

  • "My husband and I were on a short long-weekend vacation to the OBX over Valentines Day and chose Aqua as the place to have our Valentines Day dinner. We've dined at Aqua many times and it is one of our local favorites in Duck, NC. The special menu was awesome, with three courses and three choices for each course. This night the food was simply outstanding - first course for Brian was a warm beet soup, for me the warm brie stuffed with spinach and sundried tomatoes, main course for Brian was rib eye with stilton mashed potatoes, for me salmon with spinach and wheat berries. Dessert was super yummy...flourless chocolate torte with a glass of champagne. The candle-lit room and warm murmur of the other guests created a perfect setting."

  • "We had the balsamic glazed salmon from the Valentine's Day Menu, which was outstanding. Service was great, and I loved the flourless chocolate torte. One of the best dinners I've had in recent memory. The only downside was that the restaurant was full, and very noisy -- background was so loud that conversation was difficult."
