A word from Applewood Inn
Built in the style of a French country barn, The Restaurant at Applewood offers ingredient driven, farm,ocean, garden-to-fork cuisine. It embodies our celebration of Sonoma's natural riches and the wine country life style. Its wine program is Russian River-centric.

The Restaurant at Applewood has been awarded a Michelin star for 2011 and 2012 and is known for its Sonoma Wine Country Cuisine with Mediteranean influences.

A Chef's Tasting Menu is available each evening for $75 per person. This is a 2 1/2 hours dining experience meant for the whole table. Alternatively, you may chose from an Ala Carte Menu. On Sundays, along with the Tasting and Ala Carte menus, we offer a Prix Fix three course dinner known as Russian River Night for $35 per person.

Young people twelve years and older are welcome to join us for dinner providing they'll enjoy the fine dining experience and the company of the adults in their party.

The menu has a beautiful and fresh focus and the local ingredients were the best. Quiet and unassuming (but good) service and the view of the peaceful courtyard and surrounding redwoods make it cozy, romantic and very relaxing. A gem all around."

  • "We formerly loved Applewood. It's gone off and we won't be back. It was not a single failure but multiple. Nobody greeted us at the front desk when we arrived. Absense of sommelier was regrettable. There were lengthy interludes between courses. The food was fancy, bordering on pretentious. The scallops smelled fishy and the saffron butter sauce was ruined with too much vinegar. The service was marginal at best. We noticed that adjacent tables were fussed over while we were ignored. Mains were skimpy and overdone. The espresso that arrived 15 minutes after we ordered it, was bitter, without crema, tepid, watery and undrinkable. When we informed our server, she scampered away, the only skill in which she exceled."

  • "We came on a Sunday night, and got the three course (vegetarian, they customized a bit) tasting menu for $35 each...a deal! Each course was phenomenal - they really let the flavors stand out. Appetizer let vegetables shine with a fantastic red pepper sauce to complement. Entree was a combination of vegetables - all done simply but very well (mashed potatoes, corn, mushroom, etc.). Dessert was amazing - peanut butter ice cream sandiwched between a cream puff-esque object with chocolate sauce! Service was standout (I forgot my purse and server ran after me in parking lot to give it to me) and this is a great option for quality vegetarian in a town that doesn't have much vegetarian! Very scenic, beautiful area amongst the vineyards."

  • "On our trip to the California wine country, we stayed at the Applewood Inn and ate dinner at the restaurant on Sunday night. I highly recommend visiting on Sunday evenings as they have a delicious and elegant wine pairings dinner. Or you can bring in your own bottle of Russian River wine for no corkage fee. Menus are seasonal and they use locally grown. An absolutely delicious meal...."

  • "We had no idea what to expect. But, it turned out to be a culinary discovery just minutes outside downtown Guerneville and the lovely Armstrong Redwood Grove/Park. Every course was of Michelin-star quality and beautifully presented. The ingredients were unusual, as fresh as could be, local--right from the gardens or from the ocean. Sauces that accompanied our main dishes (there were four of us who had gone together for dinner) were unique but never overpowering nor too much. Veggies were prepared just right--not overcooked, thank goodness, but not verging on raw either. We would definitely go back! As it is an hour from Sonoma, we would consider spending the night as not only is it a restaurant but an inn and spa."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Applewood Inn, everything we ordered was delicious. Our server, Jesse, was exceptional; he helped make our dining experience at Applewood Inn most enjoyable. We loved the bread! We shared the scallop appetizer (sublime) and for our main course we had the halibut and salmon entrees. For dessert, we shared the layered chocolate mousse. The entrees portions were perfect sizes. You can eat on the covered veranda to experience the outdoor feeling. We hope to return to Applewood Inn soon!"

  • "We have dined at Applewood several time's, they never disappoint this time we had the baby green salad for a starter, absolutely incredible then i had the beef tenderloin and my wife had the halibut, both done to perfection, and for dessert we shared the panna cotta, one of the best desserts i have had in recent memory, i say this on the heels of a trip we just got back from Paris, Rome and Florence, Applewood is a true 5 star restaurant."

Of all the high-end restaurants we dined at in San Francisco/Wine Country area during our stay, this was by far the most incredible meal we had. The atmosphere is warm and romantic, the staff was impeccable, and the wine list exceeded our expectations, even with the restaurant being in wine country. The little town where this restaurant is situated is somewhat off the beaten path, but it is WELL worth the drive and was truly the most enjoyable meal we shared during our trip. I wish we didn't live across the country - we'd dine here regularly if we lived closer! It's a new favorite and we will always make time to dine here anytime we're in the area in our future travels. "

  • "Everything went as planned. Arrived and were welcomed, and wished a happy Mother's Day, table was delightful. Service greeted us and explained the special prefix dinner. He answered all questions about the local wines, which I appreciated, since I enjoy Russian River fruit and work for Chateau St. Jean. The mean was very good...my wife's salmon was slightly undercooked, but they resolved that very quickly. Beautiful B & B and spa. Definitely, a local gem. We will return."

  • "First time here, so we tried the tasting menu with the wine flight. Decent price compared to other places, but still a splurge for us, but it was worth it. We had the five course tasting menu. Had a few choices to make, but all were good options. The pace of the meal was dead on for us. The wines were generous pours, and we sometimes did not finish the glass in time for the next course. But we muscled through it :-) A lovely meal up in the wine country."

  • "We are staying at the inn and happened to find a groupon for the restaurant. We each got an appetizer, an entree, dessert, and a glass of wine. The food was incredible. The suggested paired wine was spot on. The service was beyond professional and friendly. Even if you're full, you must find room for dessert because their chocolate mousse with mocha ice cream was worth the discomfort of being so full. The scallop was incredible, and the filet was mouthwatering. My boyfriend had the lamb which was also incredible. The ambiance was rustic and romantic. If you're staying at the inn, you won't be disappointed with their breakfast either. Equally incredible. "

  • "I bought a Groupon Coupon for $85 which stated this was the price for a 3 course meal for two plus 2 glasses of wine. It turns out that is only a credit toward the price of your meal. Also an automatic 20% gratuity is charged on the full price of the food ordered. With a $20 credit toward a $50 bottle of wine we split with another couple, we paid $62 on top of the $85 we already paid. Not a great deal. Had we realized this was just a credit, we would have shared an appetizer and dessert. I would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. Waiter was great and food was presented creatively. From Santa Rosa, take River Road -- not Highway 116."

  • "The restaurant is surrounded by beautiful forests of redwoods and wild flowers. It makes you feel relaxed, comfortable, and warm. The hotel and restaurant have a rustic, yet, romantic feel which made me feel at ease. The food was outstanding! My boyfriend and I have eaten at numerous fine dining restaurants, but we agreed Applewood restaurant is the absolute best. We both started off with a seared scallop. I'm not a huge fan of scallops, but I almost order another after clearing my plate! It was cooked to perfection along with fresh, vibrant flavors. Nothing could compare to the cocoa nib crusted rack of lamb. The flavors were rich, balanced and simple. The cocoa nib crust pairs perfectly to the lamb. "

  • "This Michelin-rated restaurant is fabulous. These are dishes you simply would not (and probably could not!) make at home, presented most beautifully. Seared diver scallops on a bed of whipped Yukon gold potatoes and Uni, with saffron butter? Sure, try that one at home! Mmmmm! Or how about Miso glazed Black Cod, with ginger broth, crispy Maitake mushrooms, mustard greens and grilled scallions. Out of this world delicious!! And make sure you leave room for dessert!!"

An appetizer had the combination of a large scallop with uni and mushrooms, citrus flavors and mashed potatoes. An entree combined black cod with pork belly, miso, Chinese greens and mushrooms.   • "My wife and I enjoyed the entire "package" at Applewod Inn...the restaurant views, setting, food offerings, service, and wines...Russian River! From our champagne to our dessert everything was as we hoped it would be. Good combination of locally sourced produce, some from their own gardens, selected purveyor's (Laurel cheese). The hostess greeted and thanked us for coming and as us where we would like to sit, delivered champagne cocktails as I requested when making our reservations, and introduced us to our server. The food was delivered at a very reasonable pace and all three courses where very good...visually and tasted great, also paired well with the Pinot Noir ordered."
