Diner Reviews
  • "My daughter and I enjoyed mouth-watering scones (raisin-pecan and cranberry-orange) and delicious variations on eggs benedict. It's a charming place, with bakery attached (easy to take home some extra goodies). Our server told us it was her first day on the job, but she clearly was experienced--attentive and very pleasant. The kitchen did mix up our poached eggs (my daughter wanted hers cooked through), but it was easy enough to swap them."

  • "The Apple Farm located in SLO, California's central coast, is a gem. Our family had reservations for 12:15 on a Saturday, and we were comfortably seated by 12:20. We had the option of either the breakfast or lunch menus or Saturday brunch. We all ordered lunch. Everyone thoroughly loved their meal. Our server, with strong customer service skills, was exceptional. She intuitively provided friendly, efficient service. After the meal she was more than happy to take a couple pictures of our group. We will definitely be meeting there again, we all enjoyed the experience so much. Next time I plan to try something from their breakfast menu."

  • "This restaurant was very different than it appears online. It was a Marie Calendars or Cracker Barrel - heavy foods, full of gravy, from frozen - not what I expected in wine country. Their description says "Farm to Table" - not at all true. The wait staff are all teens and you get the kind if service you'd expect when that is the staff - tables that ordered long after us were served first, never brought bread, water glasses went empty for long periods, our waiter would dissapear to talk to friends, requests for condiments were in fulfilled. Disappointing experience :("

  • "My husband and I were trying to find a nice place to dine while visiting San Luis Obispo and we found it. Service was great. The food was phenomenal. We can't wait to visit this place again. Bravo!"

  • "We stayed at the Apple Farm Inn and had breakfast and dinner. Charming spot with a warm country feel. Servers are friendly and try to please. Breakfast was great with a clever and interesting menu. Definitely worth a try. Dinner was unfortunately not so great. The choices were mostly "comfort food" and good for a family but if you are looking for a dining experience you should look elsewhere and come back in the morning."

  • "Apple Farm has farm to table ingredients and it shows...the food was just excellent. The service was fast and friendly. We sat on the patio deck and the view of the gardens and surrounding hillside was peaceful and beautiful. Will definitely return again."

  • "Food was excellent. Waiter was quite slow and not as attentive as he should have been, seemed a little irritated when we had questions and did not check back other than right at the beginning of the meal. The restaurant was not busy at all and he only had two other tables. Very slow getting the bill out to us. Other than that, the meal was excellent, wonderful chef."

  • "Great food, fantastic view, excellent service. what more could you ask for? Took my 82 year old mother and 17 year old son and they both had an awesome experience! Gonna make it a regular stop when in SLO."

  • "A friend recommended the Apple Farm Restaurant since I was visiting San Luis Obispo for the weekend and it was wonderful! Really excellent food, the menu items were a little different than your usual dishes, but just enough that it was easy to pick something I knew I would enjoy and I did very much so. The service was excellent and the ambiance was very friendly and welcoming."

  • "I was disappointed that the menu had been changed. I wanted my old favorites and they were gone. The meatloaf I had was tasty."

  • "I had set up a stay at the Apple Farm Inn as a surprise for my spouse after her return from NYC on NY Eve, we arrived late from the airport, 9:00pm instead of 8:30pm. So I dropped my spouse off to park the car closer to our room to avoid raising suspicions and upon upon my arrival to the restaurant discovered my spouses interactions with the hostess were less the welcoming. " The manger is wanting to inform everyone we close at 9:30pm." Really? I understand we were late, it was NY Eve, but the restaurant was nowhere being busy. Was it necessary to stress/discourage an arriving customer, in a manner that implied "we don't want to be bothered/you're going to delay our party plans..." that we're an imposition? Badly done. We/$$ went elsewhere."

  • "Comfort food safe for those afraid of venturing into foreign food territory. Old standard recipes cooked tolerably well but lacking any of the inspiration of the California foodie movement of the past half- century. If the prices were half as much or the portions twice as much it would be reasonable value. However, at these prices the uninspiring recipes in haute cuisine portions aren't worthwhile for those of us with better experiences in the big city."

  • "We have eaten here many times and we always enjoy the food and decor But we always have a problem getting water refilled and if we ask for something (like mayo) it can take quite a bit of time. Even getting our order taken has taken up to 20 minutes It is good just don't go in a hurry"

  • "The restaurant is so interesting it's a delight to be there. However, the food was really just marginal. We will not return to eat there maybe just to shop."

  • "Went on Christmas Eve. I have been there several times and the quality is consistently very good with very nice service."

  • "This meal lacked finesse. Two nights later we had a meal in Monterey for the same price that had all the qualities we expected to find at Apple farm. We rarely eat out for Christmas but when we do we like it to be a treat. This meal was not in that category."

  • "The best thing - they were open for breakfast on Christmas day. The muffin was under baked, the eggs were undercooked, and after I said I was allergic to bell peppers, I was served potatoes with bell peppers. The place is in a time warp, but not that amusing."

  • "We've been here a few times recently on visits to SLO. The service and food has been very good each time. We had dinner on a Friday night several weeks ago, when they offered Prime Rib - it was very good! A generous portion, not too salty, cooked perfectly. Our most recent visit was for lunch, and the varied menu made deciding a challenge. Our daughter had a taco salad served in a crispy tortilla bowl. It was quite good, and the cornbread that accompanied it was delicious! My husband enjoyed his mushroom-swiss burger, and my turkey sandwich was good too, though I ended up eating it open face, as it seemed a bit dry with both pieces of ciabatta. Overall, a very nice experience, and we will return."

  • "If you make a reservation, you expect to be seated close to that time. Were told we needed them as it was full. When we arrived there were walk ins that they worked in and were seated before we were."

  • "Great for celebrating the holidays with your loved one or family! wine list was good. Fast service as soon as we were seated. waitress was very personable. We didn't get served our entree till almost after our meal because she forgot, but it was worth the wait and the food was all around delicious and great atmosphere. Grew up in San Luis and had never been to apple farm, definitely going again!"

  • "We went on Thanksgiving. It was alright. The vegetables were like the stuff you get out of a bag of frozen corn with other veggies added in. The yams/sweet potatoes were odd in that they were cut into small pieces with the skin on. I've never had them with skins on before so I tried to cut them off. Awkward. Turkey, gravy was very good and the dressing was excellent. Mashed potatoes just fine. Dessert had good choices. The service was a bit off . We asked for ground pepper and it took 3 tries. One of us ordered wine and it came early, but the food took so long to arrive that the wine was about gone and it was meant for the meal. There were apologies for the delay of the meal, but no offer to refill the wine. AF is best for breakfast."

  • "We enjoy a delicious breakfast Thursday morning, unfortunately were very disappointed with Thanksgiving dinner. My husband and I ordered the beef and wasn't what we expected regarding flavor and quality, our son ordered the pork and he did like it. We eat at this restaurant every time we visit San Luis Obispo and it is the first time that we are disappointed. We celebrated Thanksgiving at this restaurant last year as well and the food was really good. One bad day or a few bad dishes. In general always has been a pleasant experience and we do recommend them. Ambience is lovely and service is good."

  • "My daughter and I met in San Luis for a Thanksgiving weekend together and chose Apple Farm for our holiday meal. We couldn't have been more pleased. The ambiance, food, and service were all deserving of 5 stars. What a wonderful and different holiday experience we shared. Thanks Apple Farm!"

  • "We found the restaurant online as we were to be traveling in the area over Thanksgiving. We expected a sort of updated coffee shop and since they did not publish a Thanksgiving menu we weren't sure what to expect for a meal other than what we saw on their regular menu. The turkey dinner with soup/salad and desert was as good a TG meal as we've ever had. Absolutely delicious! The dining area was in two parts. There was the updated plus coffee shop decor and then there was a semi-finer section located in a round room. With their marvelously decorated gift shop to browse in later on we found this restaurant to be an unexpected gem."

  • "The Apple Farm is a Cal Poly neighborhood gem, which has consistently good food. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is gala. Unfortunately, on Thanksgiving, they ran out of all rare to medium prime rib, and only had a well-done option at 6:00pm. Also, we had a very impersonal and lack-luster waiter. He was poorly informed, making no effort to improve problem situations. There were no placemats or table cloths on wooden tables, giving our important meal a coffee-shop feeling. It makes me unhappy to give an unfavorable review of this normally pleasant restaurant; but, thankfully, the food was good."

  • "The Apple Farm has been a San Luis legend for a good home cooked style breakfast for years. This was our first return visit after several years. I'm happy to report the quality and ambiance are still there."

  • "The Apple Farm was very nice. My husband ordered the chicken pot pie. Delish! I has a bowl chili with all the fixings with homemade cornbread and fresh fruit. We stopped at their bakery on the way out and bought 2 apple dumplings that came with a container of cinnamon sauce that was enjoyed with our friends later that evening. There are 3 areas of their gift shop all decked out in Christmas and kitchen goodies, too. Friendly staff. Country kitchen theme based surroundings and flowers outside. Plenty of outside seating with a foothills view. Looking forward to going again."

  • "Had a lovely birthday luncheon there; it's under new management and the new manager was very "hands on". Many of the wait staff are college students and are very upbeat and quick! Lovely surroundings and beautiful weather for eating outside. The Apple Pie is TO DIE FOR!!"

  • "The Apple Farm is a charming place, however I woud have to say that the food was nothing special. We were there for breakfast and for the price I expected a bit more. The food was just your average meal, nothing fancy"

  • "Quality, home cooked comfort food at its best. Generous portions, moderately priced, fantastic service (Cal Poly students) Courteous, prompt and did I say fantastic Cal Poly student waiters and waitresses:)) Fresh and clean as well (food), but so were the students! Oh, did I tell you about the Cal Poly students;))) Apple Farm is a great place to enjoy good food with family and friends. You will not be disappointed."

  • "I met a friend for dinner at the Apple Farm. I made reservations through Open Table since there is often a waiting time. Although we had a 5:00 reservation we still had to wait to be seated. The server was great, very friendly. Our food was tepid. It tasted fine but almost on the cool side. For the price I'd go somewhere else."

  • "My wife and I bring our families here whenever they visit us. It is good food and great service. I always get the country fried steak and eggs and my wife enjoys the housemade granola and yogurt plate. We will continue to eat here for years to come."

  • "Apple Farm is resting on its laurels. It is dated, the menu is tired, the staff seems to be simply putting in their time with little additional effort. Sad because it used to be such a great meeting spot. Tourists will always flock there so little incentive to change."
