Apizza SchollsBest since ItalyThe crust is totally AMAZING, especially for those of us who like a thin crust. The margherita pizza was to die for. Now that you can make reservations through open table and you do not have to buck the well deserved lines out the door, Apizza Scholls is the Elysian Fields of pizza places.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBEST PIZZA IN THE WORLD, LITERALLYThe freshest highest-quality ingredients combined with hand made dough rolled and cooked to perfection make for the best pizza in the world, literally, and we've had pizzas everywhere from NY to Chicago to Italy. We sat at the counter with a view of the kitchen which was great fun. Joshua was our server and was great.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingSaw the restaurant on the food channel, happened to be going to Portland, made a reservation, was able to be seated early (my need) and was completely pleased with all aspects of our meal!! Great food, excellent service priced right.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMApizza SchollsHaving had the best pizza ever in Connecticut when I lived there, Pepe's Pizza, I have always wanted to try Apizza Scholls because it's reviews were always stunning. Even Anthony Bourdain said it was the closest to Pepe's he had found in the NW.
Now that they are taking reservations, we decided to give it a go. We don't live nearby, so arriving to wait in a long line, did not appeal to us.
There were 3 of us. We ordered one pizza, which was a half-and-half. One half was the Bacon Bianca and the other half was their Apizza Margherita. They were both delicious and the crust was just what we like. Crisp and thin. The edge crust was a bit thicker than Pepe's, but still nice, crisp and delicious. Plenty of pizza for the 3 of us!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMReal NY foldable piesApizza Scholls was indeed a nice surprise.Too bad this place was not here when I lived only 2 blocks away! This is undoubtably one of the best pizza places in Portland.I started to eat my pizza with a knife and fork when my dining companion gently reminded me that utensils would just ruin the exquisite flavor of the pizza, and would I please fold the thing like a proper NY slice.I obliged and was glad that I did.
The thin crust was baked to perfection with just enough hardness to make a satisfying crunch when I bit into it. The Apizza Amore- a Margherita pie (Tomato sauce, mozzarella (whole milk & fresh), pecorino romano/grana padano, fresh garlic, extra virgin olive oil & fresh basil) was embellished with Olympic Provisions Hot Capicollo.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMbrooklyn pizzamy husband is from brooklyn and knows his pizza. he thought it came very close to that one in bay ridge back in the day.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMStill Amazing! This is our go to pizza; if it were closer, we would go every week. We started with the Cesar salad, which is among the best in town. We then ordered the pig & pineapple and sausage & mushroom pizzas. Both were delicious. We have tried other places, yet Apizza Scholls remains #1.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat pizza creations!not just the standard fair - very imaginative pairings that go together fabulously!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatest Pizza in the NorthwestI Love Pizza !!! I love thin crust pizza, and Apizza Scholls' pizza is absolutely stellar. I've only had two kinds since I've been going, and I can't past the pepperoni pizza and the capicola pizza. Their pizzas are so beautifully prepared, the crust is so crisp and thin, and the ingredients so fresh and flavorful, no one else can compare. Their salads are huge, and there are many, each meant to serve at least two to three people, but I will eat their Caesar salad by myself. They have a very nice wine list, the service is good, and it's not a fine dining restaurant. But, If you like thin crust pizza, you MUST experience Apizza Scholls. Their Pizza Is The Greatest !!! You won't be sorry. . . You'll thank me !!!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best pizza in Portland. The best pizza in Portland. If you try it once...you're addicted.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMfantastic pizza, short, butfantastic pizza, short, but very good, wine list and the best Caesar salad i've had. Service was friendly and fast and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBest pizza I've ever had inBest pizza I've ever had in the States. I'm hooked.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLove, love, love Apizza Scholls.Love, love, love Apizza Scholls. Everything was fantastic, but if you are going to take home leftovers, make sure they put them in a box!! Our server cut the pieces and stacked them on top of each other cheese on cheese, completely ruined half of our delicious pizza.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMApizza Scholls is focusedApizza Scholls is focused on their New Haven style pizza, which is thin but still slightly chewy inside while being crispy on the outside. My pizza had fresh basil on it, which smelled fantastic when the EIGHTEEN INCH PIZZA appeared in front of me. Unfortunately, they have no smaller sizes than that, so I got to eat this pizza for three days in a row, since I dined alone here. Additionally, they have birch beer, which people from the Pennsyvania area will recognize as a rarity anywhere outside of the Northeast. The service was fine, the dining area was oddly split apart, and the area is difficult to park in, but this place is again all about the pizza. And it's worth it for that alone.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of our favorites, we comeOne of our favorites, we come often. The Ceasar salad is a must--uniformly excellent continuing to be the best that I have had in Portland. Had the special--meatball and onion--could have used a few more onions but the crust, sauce, garlic and meatballs were, as always, excellent. They now take reservations on Open Table which eliminates the hour wait. We have never arrived with a reservation and not had a table waiting for us.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time visitor. EasilyFirst time visitor. Easily made a reservation on their website. Our table was near the back. Kinda crowded together. Thankfully the 2 babies at the next table weren't screamers, or I'd have left. Service was friendly. Ordered the mixed antipasto plate (over-priced for what you get) and the Bacon Bianca pizza. Lots of American bacon! Good, but odd flavor. Not typical pizza. Crust was more chewy than crunchy. Moxie soft drink was another first. Good, but odd flavor there, too. Pizza only comes in one size, so we had plenty to take home. Next time we'll try a "normal" pizza like cheese and sausage to see how that compares to typical pizzas served elsewhere. Over all good, but not sure it measured up to all the hype.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA taste of southern EuropeI got to know about the place from Anthony Bourdain's programme. So I was expecting a good pizza. We got one pizza with two favours: amore and truffel. The quality was superb and it surpassed my expectations. We are from Malta and this pizza was close to the top pizza place in my island. Well done.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Pizza, it too someAmazing Pizza, it too some time to get the pizza to the table, but the waitress kept our beer glasses full4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWhy go anywhere else?We have finally decided to eat 90% of our pizza here! (The other 10% is when we are starving.) This really is the best tasting pizza for us. We had a half plain / half pepperoni, which was absolutely delicious. The service is very pleasant; they really hire good people. Interestingly, it was the night of the NCAA Men's basketball championship game, and it was still very busy.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNY pizza snob approvesI'm a pizza snob from NY transplanted to the west coast and find this to be the best NY-style pizza +/- 250 miles up/down the coast. Just outstanding.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to Apizza SchollsWe went to Apizza Scholls in 2011 and I had been dreaming of this pizza since. We were very happy to be able to make a reservation, but I would have gladly waited in line an hour for their pizza. I visited Italy recently and this is equal to theirs. Clean favors , pure ingredients! Wonderful.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMHungry for pizza? ExcellentHungry for pizza? Excellent beer selection? This is the place for you. It's that simple.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming service, amazingCharming service, amazing pizza! They need to figure out a better way to connect the two sides.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMApizza Scholls has some ofApizza Scholls has some of the best pizza in Portland. The crust is thin, crispy, and perfectly chewy, with just the right amount of toppings and sauce. It's worth the wait!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the wait!Awesome pizza!! Staff very friendly. Will definately go back.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMIt lived up to all the hypeIt lived up to all the hype I had read about. Made only better by the fact I was able to make a reservations on Open Table and bypass the long line of people waiting for a table. Thank you3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSuper FavoriteIf there were a category for "super favorite", Apizza Scholls would be on the list. We love the pizza. We started with the cesar salad, which can easily be shared by 2 or 4. We had a plain pizza, sausage & olive and the tri colore. All of them were -- as usual and expected -- excellent.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMHaving never been here before,Having never been here before, I wondered if it could live up to the hype in the press. Yes, it did. Pizza is delicious. You should try it if you haven't already. It's worth the wait. We thought the value was good as well - the pies are huge.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMauthentic italian foodGreat family owned restaurant and very attentive service.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular, as always. We have been going here since they opened on Hawthorne, and they have never disappointed . . . ever. We continue to try other pizza restaurants, and many are very good. Nevertheless, none stack up to Apizza Scholls. The caesar salad is truly remarkable, as good as any in Portland. The pizza has all elements nailed, particularly the crust. In many ways, Apizza Scholls is a bakery that adds pizza to its world class bread. Just go. If you cannot make a reservation, it is well worth the wait.1/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
