  • "Had heard about this restaurant for several years. The service is very attentive. If any employee passes an empty seat, the napkins are immediately re-folded. The food is good. The duck breast fantastic - skin crispy with salt. Superb. The chitarra vongole was the only potential miss. Would have been ok but the sepia (squid) wAsnt great. Overall would go back!!"

  • "While the food a wait staff at the restaurant were good, the management provides poor customer service. We made a reservation for 4 people and one couple arrived early and waited at the bar. The second couple arrived on time but only one person came in as the second was parking the car. The manager refused to seat us (3 at a table for 4) until the last person arrived. This was despite the fact that two of the people in our party had injuries that made it difficult for them to stand (at this point there were no seats left at the bar). Eventually, the manager relented and placed us at our table (and the fourth person arrived within a few minutes of our seating). I felt that the manager was needlessly rigid."

  • "Apiary was a lovely restaurant; nice atmosphere and good service. For April, they did have the air conditioning turned up way to high. I shared in the crudo, roast chicken, and a few desserts. Overall good food, but the chef was overhanded with condiments -- most of the food was a little too salty, and the desserts were very sweet. Good wine list and quiet enough to have a nice conversation over your meal."

  • "Visiting NYC and a friend recommended this restaurant..... our dinner was delicious and we were please to be in a more "local" restaurant... a little out of the touristy areas. I chose a nice salad and the cheese plate (with honey) along with a bottle of red wine .... perfect!"

  • "Have been here a few times and each time I come back I wonder why I don't come here more often. Split the octopus which was very tender and had a spicy sauce. Date had the salmon and I had the pork chop, both were cooked perfectly, very flavor and both had a unique spin that I hadn't had before. Definitely worth the trip. Cocktails were unique and powerful. Service was attentive without being intrusive."

  • "I, and friends, have been to this restaurant many times and have always been pleased. The food has been consistently interesting and good. the service has been attentive and personal. I always get the table I request. Unfortunately, the chef is leaving so that it is hard to say what changes there will be. Hopefully they will continue in the tradition of excellence. Very untypical, I always order the same dish, the chicken, which has never disappointed. My dinner partners have ranged through the menu and have been equally pleased."

  • "This is a lovely neighborhood-type restaurant with excellent food--good quality ingredients, creative combinations and good variety of choices. The food is well-prepared and nicely presented. The place ins unpretentious yet gracious. My only complaint is that, although the restaurant was mainly empty, the hostess would not seat me at my reserved table for 2 until my the second person showed up. She suggested that I sit at the bar, which I personally dislike doing. I could understand this policy if I had just walked in without a reservation or if the restaurant had been crowded."

  • "Wanted to try Apiary after I read "Kitchen Confidential". The food is amazing. Chef Scott has a way with food & flavors that just has to be experienced. The White Bean Soup is so good I soaked up every last drop with my bread, & the Duck Confit is remeniscent of Grandma's Baked Chicken...done slow & easy all Saturday & devoured for dinner. The only drawback is the space. DON'T go here with lots of stuff. Though they'll take your coat, most tables are about a foot apart & it can be very awkward if you want to have a private conversation. You can't help but hear others' convos around you, so be mindful of your topics. Don't forget the Blackberry Financier for dessert, either."

  • "After waiting at the bar to be seated until our party was all present , we were shown to a table by the kitchen, though there were only 3 other tables occupied. When we asked for a different table, they brought us to the manager who made us wait (yet again) at the bar as 1 person from our party had not arrived. Upon her arrival, we were given a table in the bar area. I don't think it is especially welcoming to be walked through the restaurant back and forth because we asked for a different table. This entire experience was seemingly done with the intent of showing us the consequences of not accepting the first table. I could understand if there were no other free tables, but there were several available at the time of our request."

The whole 3 course meal was really excellent, much better than expected for an East Village neighborhood restaurant, and the service was also great - just losing one star for the fact that we were not seated until about 15 minutes after the time of our reservation."

  • "But once we ordered our drinks dessert and coffee the hostess/manager/whatever came over and told us that the dinner area was for people who were ordering dinner. Their restaurant info on the open table app said no such thing. So she says that we can move to the bar area if we want because there were people waiting on tables. I made the reservation so the table is mine, what we ordered came out to what two dinner items would have cost, there were two empty tables next to us and only one couple waiting. When we left I checked my open table app and didn't find the reservation on my profile. When I looked in my email I saw that that the woman had canceled my reservations."

  • "We ate on a Sunday night and despite the early time, the place filled quickly. The food was very good and the service was attentive without being obsequious. The roasted beet salad was good and the grilled octopus was excellent. Our mains were the pork chop, which was a bit tough--- with an excellent sauce and outstanding black beans---, and the black cod with clam chowder, both of which were outstanding. We would gladly go back."

  • "New Yorkers are accustomed to a certain noise level from the streets to the subways. Noisy, however, is not desirable while trying to enjoy a nice quiet romantic meal. Yes, that is what could await you at Apiary, a really nice place in the East Village. Service and food are superb, but the noise level is deafening, especially if there is a party (i.e. greater than 4) at any one of the tables. In all fairness, Yelp warned that dining any time after 8 pm was risky "aurally" and indeed it was. Got so bad that the "rowdy" and unawares party had to be admonished by one of the hostesses. Sad that that is what is remembered so vividly. Our recommendation.... come, dine, enjoy, but plan to leave before 8 pm."

Every dish we tried was flavored to perfection, The timining of the service was perfect, and the ambiance is casual yet elegant but unpretentious. Looking forward to eating here again.   • "Apparently there was a new expeditor last night. We placed our order, apps came out perfectly, but then half the table's entrees came out about 15 minutes before the other half... and the half that came out earlier was undercooked. The server and manager were fantastic and instantly took the food back to cook longer, and gave us a complimentary extra side and round of drinks (but only half the table got a complimentary round until we pointed it out to the server, who brought the rest of the table their beverages). Food was DELICIOUS, I just wish it was delivered differently. Highlights included the Baby Romaine Salad, NY Strip, Orzo Mac n Cheese, Hamachi Crudo, and Flourless Chocolate Cake."
