Aperto sets aside certain tables for walk-ins, if you do not see an available time for your reservation, please call the restaurant directly.
Aperto is a small neighborhood Italian restaurant right in the heart of San Francisco's Potrero Hill. We are dedicated to serving the best seasonal, local and organic products that we can find and we feature Fulton Valley Poultry, organic pork & lamb, local and wild caught fish. We take great pride in our food our service and our wines. Our menu changes with the season and we also offer great daily specials on our blackboard. We offer over 16 wines by the glass, as well as full and half bottle selections of domestic and Italian varietals. During the warmer times of the year we have an outside seating area where you can soak up the sun and take in the beautiful views of the city.

  • "Aperto is our go-to neighborhood restaurant for anything above a quick bite. The food, service, wine selection is usually outstanding, and we've never really had a bad meal. This time was a weird reverse of every other visit we've had there. Service was very perfunctory...the waitress seemed distracted, not paying attention, and hopeful we'd eat and leave (that was the impression we got, anyways). I ordered the Chicken sandwich; came with artichokes, but artichokes full of inedible leaves so I couldn't eat them. The salad was more than half frisee, which was wilted and bitter. We had to ask twice for water refills, and overall, just not the relaxing enjoyable meal we are so used to having at our wonderful neighborhood restaurant."

The only problem in writing a good review is that it will become harder to get a table!!"

  • "Out of town guests always like to join us at Aperto. The ambiance, food and staff are lovely. On our last visit, we requested and got the window booth. Service was not the greatest. Our server was nice, but a little spacey and at first, we thought she was rushing us. After a while we realized she was just over-eager to please. Two of us had pasta (wonderful) and the guys had the pork chop (enormous, but they both finished the plate). Nice and reasonable wine list."

  • "Second visit - better this time out. The fennel salad was good; fresh ingredients and the vinaigrette wasn't overwhelming. The roasted chicken was actually moist and hot - not warm or room temperature, but hot. It also had good flavor. My companion had the short ribs and judged them as OK (they didn't fall of the bone and he thought the taste was just OK). Service was spotty, but the more irritating aspect is the tightness of the space. I'm fine with small places, but not when the tables are on top of each and you can easily hear (or participate) in the conversation next to you. This night the place was very crowded, hot, and loud. It's one of those (too) energetic neighborhood places which will prevent me from returning any time soon."

  • "Have been to Aperto for years, for both lunch, and dinner. It has maintained a high level of consistently pleasing dishes, and specials. I admit to being stuck on the Pepati, an unusual pasta, in that it uses jalapeño, bacon, garlic, tomato and basil in a wonderful rustic blend that makes it difficult for me to veer too far away except on occasion. I have found the fish specials very good, and find the caesar one of the best anywhere. Servers are always happy to split, and I've noticed the last couple of visits, that there are small, and regular sized portions on most entrees. Overall, even with the inevitable staff changes, Aperto has managed to maintain a top-and special spot for me as a Potrero Hill original!"

  • "I was disappointed. This was a return after a great experience two years ago. The first question do you have a reservation? Yes we do. Ok sit right here. At a table right in front of the door. There were 4 other tables further from door. Can we sit here? No the seating is already programmed. What?????? Finally someone I assume was higher up than she said it's OK if we moved. The waiter was ok but we felt rushed like the we're trying to turn the table for next seating. Not the friendly and intimate atmosphere I remember from last time but more interest in bottom line. Too bad."

If on a limited budget, the menu's great because it has lots of appetizers, small plates, & half portions under $5 - 10.) We were there on a Tues evening, & took advantage of their prix fixe dinner for $30 - a duck salad w/pickled turnips radicchio & fennel; a robust lamb pasta, and a raspberry cake dessert. We also had their selection of "cicchetti(?)" - little bites of crostini, olives, smoked salmon involtini, & a couple other things I can't remember, & a half portion of a shrimp pasta dish the size of a full portion at another restaurant. Service was great, with the waiter enthused to talk about the dishes."

  • "We are locals, and it's wonderful to have such a great place within walking distance. It's our go-to spot for special occasions. The prix-fixe for NYE was delicious - the shortrib risotto was melt-in-your-mouth good. I had the pan fried bass, which, though small, was perfectly cooked and presented with a great assortment of root veggies. Others at the table had the lamb, the shrimp and crab ravioli (outstanding with a great sauce that complemented the seafood), and we all enjoyed the squash soup. The one downside was the dessert - a rich baba au rhum. The cake was very dry, and the alcohol content was overpowering - would be better with summer stone fruits, we thought, than raisins. Otherwise, the tenth stellar NYE we've had there!"
