The food was very good but the the service was lacking. They were not very attentive to my group and the restaurant was fairly empty only 10 dinners. Felt I had to ask for basic items. Would go back for the food one issue, they no longer heat the bread a bummer.

I was given a gift certificate for Aperto and used it with a friend before a matinee concert. It decided to try Opentable. Discovered it wasn't necessary. I was asked if I had a reservation but not asked who I was. It is a very small space especially with the amount of children and parents blocking tables with strollers. We were more pointed in a direction than seated. I had to move the table and try to get the woman to move her stroller twice with no help from the staff. We never received a full table set. I never received a spoon, the waitress actually watched me stir my coffee with the handle of my knife and did not bring me a spoon. My water glass was chronically empty and it took 4 requests for cream to get some, from 2 different people. The food was not impressive. I thought it lacked real vegetables and fruit and $4 for 1 mild Italian sausage seems extreme. The honey wheat pancakes were good. The coffee was good but strong for my taste, and I would have preferred to been asked before my coffee cup was refilled, since I don't normally drink coffee. I would have also liked to know about the dessert prior to ordering because I would have ordered differently. I won't be back and I'm very happy I didn't spend my money on this.

Aperto was recommended to us by a seat-partner on our plane trip to San Francisco ... little did I realize that it would cost a healthy $40 round-trip taxi from our Nob Hill Hotel! None-the-less, it was worth every mile ... a terrific, small, neighborhood bistro with fabulous food!!!! Great service... Thanks for the memories!!!!

I took my boss there for a business lunch. Everything he's got turned out great unfortunately ii asked for no onions in my salad and pasta. I didn't get a chance to talk to her before I started eating. My pasta because she never came on us, so I put them to the side. I told about it and she said oops I'm sorry I forgot to tell the chef and that was it. No offer to compensate! Of Course, I did not not leave her a good tip!!

The food is always very good, the service always friendly; Aperto is a wonderful place to dine, although it is quite noisy; not a place to have dinner conversation; but the delicious entrees make up for that.

I love Aperto. I'm a neighbor & decided to treat myself to a visit Saturday night; it had been a while. Everything lived up to my expectations. My server Timothy was wonderful. He gave a great suggestion for a starter to go with my lamb chop main course. The faro salad was terrific. I also enjoyed listening to him make wine recommendations to other tables. He was descriptive without being pretentious. I went with the special dessert as is my pattern. The lemon buttermilk cake was tasty and with the marinated strawberries and whipped cream, yum. Sorry to hear Laura the chef is departing for her next chapter. However, I've been going to Aperto before her arrival and know that Chris will find us someone excellent to take over. Check it out!

i say 'disappointing' because our server didn't know the menu well enough to tell my friend who asked for gluten-free items that the fish she'd ordered was breaded. when fish arrived, friend couldn't eat it. so she ordered a different fish, and it came back raw. sent it back to kitchen and it appeared to be (still) raw! sent it back and owner/manager (?) looked it over and somehow managed to convince my friend it wasn't raw and that she could eat it. at least we got a dessert and a glass of wine comped :-)

Every time I go here it's just what I want, good food, gracious service, an all-around pleasant dinner. We've been going here for about 15 years and the menu changes seasonally and there are specials every night (one fish, one meat). The wine list has gotten better recently thanks to the new maitre'd. And our favorite waiter (Carlos) is still there, charming as ever. The rest of the staff is always attentive and if your waiter is busy, there is always someone else to get you what you need. The food is Italian and this is one of the few restaurants where I will eat risotto, they do an excellent job of it. The prices are extremely reasonable for SF. A go to favorite.

I've eaten at Aperto several times. (It is three blocks from my home.) This time I had brunch and left just as happy. The offerings were anything but run-of-the-mill. They also aren't all that Italian. I had chilaquiles with hangar steak, which was hearty and delicious. The green salsa really made the dish. We also had lamb sausage hash. It was manly as hell, and tasted great.

The only complaint I have is that the waitress didn't exactly get my order right... and then, when I asked about my pancakes, she nodded, like she knew what I meant, but they still didn't come. Longtime clients, always loves this place, but seemed to be off this time. We always take special out of town guests here. Sign on door "Help Wanted" might have been a clue. Maître D was not friendly, seemed a bit grumpy when we asked to have window shade lowered. All of us had hard time understanding waiter explaining specials. Waiter did not remember who ordered what (party of 4!) We are/were greatly disappointed and sad to lose a great place.

What a great neighborhood find. Chris (the GM) and his staff were fantastic! The ambiance was perfect but the food stood out and was pretty amazing. We started with the mussels were plentiful with a nice broth with pancetta bread for dipping, yummy. Both the veal and the chicken were well portioned and simply AMAZING. We ended with a chocolate lava cake and cream. Yum, Yum! We will definitely go back.

Every bite of every dish is worthy of praise. My friends and I each ordered the fixed price lunch, choosing a total of 9 different dishes, including an ala carte appetizer of the burrata cheese, accompanied by a special pesto spread and their delicious bread. We loved the risotto with squash blossoms, the short rib sandwich (gosh, can't remember if it was short ribs or another delicious shredded beef), the bruschetta which was far from ordinary in its flavors. We can't wait to return. Very unassuming place, but very special

It is hard to rate because I was just looking at my date the whole time. It was our first meeting. It was so funny because the server kept coming over to put cutlery away near our table and we would stop talking. Then the server made a joke by putting the last fork in really slowly.
