We arrived ahead of the Friday pre-theatre crowd so we had the full attention of our server, with fast delivery of drinks and food courses. By 6:30 the rooms were full, live music had begun.
Tasty dishes without much finesse; heavy-handed with sweeter sauces than one might expect. Beans and greens were flavorful but lacked eye-appeal, Brussel sprout leaves were brussel sprout halves, not crisp as the menu seemed to suggest but sautéed to very tender - a little over-done. Cocktails are generous, serving sizes substantial. The pasta dinner was a typically huge platter.
We'd return for pre-theatre dining since it's just a couple doors from Proctors but I doubt we'd make a special trip.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAperitivo hits every noteFood-outstanding (from traditional to unique), service- very knowledgable and courteous, and the atmosphere is comfortable whether dressed in a suit or more casual. Aperitivo offers a comfortable bar setting with friendly service and nice decor with soft lighting and live light jazz music. Super clean. Have gone in several times, sometimes for a drink and also for dinners 2-8 people- always outstanding. Even when they are suoer-busy (Proctor's show night) it has a positive vibe-never chaotic. It's kind of hidden down the block from the wonderful Proctors Theater and we had wandered in here once before after the show. The menu is creative - definitely not the usual ingredients you see on a typical menu. We liked that you could have just small plates, or the most fascinating pizza as well as full dinner entrees. The service was excellent even with the restaurant having filled up quickly after the matinee at the theater. It is one of our first choices to go for a nice evening out. All the food chosen for the evening came out at the appropriate temperatures and was all very tasty. Both the Mussel and Calamari/Arugula salad dishes were the highlight of the meal.

The first course (ceasar salad for my wife, and baked maple syrup sweet potato fries for me) was good. The entree was better (salmon for my wife, fried chicken for me). The sides that accompanied the main course were excellent. For example, the greens, mashed potatoes, and sauce that accompanied the chicken were better than the chicken itself. But the deserts were simply outstanding(mixed berry crisp for my wife and fallen chocolate cake with vanila ice cream for me). My wife got the wine accompanying each course for an additional $9. The wine pairings were excellent. All in all, the fixed priced dinner was a very good meal and an excellent value. There was a glitch with one of the dishes that did not match the description in the menu, much to the surprise of the guest and the waiter.
