A word from Apartment 13
WELCOME TO APARTMENT 13!
See all photos >
Our evening at Apartment 13 was
great. We came in early for our reservation just to get some drinks before dinner. Leo was incredibly knowledgable about every aspect in our drinks. The food was simple, tasted good but nothing extravagant. The prices were fair, and our table service was great. The drinks, ambiance, and service were my favorites things about our experience."

This excellent restaurant surely
changes the far east side dining scene. Wonderful and inventive menu bursting with flavors"

We had such a great time
celebrating a friend's bday there! The ambiance was perfect, romantic quaint and cozy. We sat in front of the fireplace. The service was great and the food was delicious. I would definitely come back~"

Apt.13 is a great neighb spot with
fab food, attentive service, and chill vibe in an affordable package! As the poets used to say, home is where the heart is-- and this was a perfect Valentine's/ holiday weekend spot."

Dinner by firelight! Not only
inviting and warm, but tasty as well. We had the crabcake (full of real crab and delicious to boot) and pear/blue salad, and we split the Angry Branzino for our dinner. Nice presentation - the branzino dish is a whole fish that is deep fried, with bold flavors of garlic, spice and lemon. It was very enjoyable, and service was just fine (no wait at all for our food). The entire evening was very pleasant; we'll definitely be back."

The restaurant had so much
potential to be great - nice set up, great music, warm, cozy atmosphere However after waiting 45 mins for a drink the anticipation of the wonderful food wore off. When the breadbasket arrived 45 mins later - there were 4 pieces for a table of 6.When the food eventually arrived it was delicious- but we were already tired of the wait. This was after making a reservation and waiting 1.5 hours for a table in the restaurant (they tried to seat is in the bar) an 8pm reservation ended at midnight simply due to waiting The food was good, I want to love this place but unfortunately will never go back or tell a friend to go there"

Our res was for 9pm.10:15pm we
were seated.10:30pm the only reason our waiter had come to our table was we went to find him.One would think that after a long wait the staff might be more attentive to make up for the delay. He wasn't.It took 10 more minutes to get table water (no glasses). So we left. I told the hostess on the way out who offered us drinks if we stayed. I told her we were still waiting on (among other things) the first round they had promised us. It's a shame because the food did look really good, but poor planning, service and excuses meant we didn't get to try it. If you do decide to go here, book an early seating so that you either get seated more quickly or your 2 hour wait still means you still eat at a reasonable hour."

I went there the first time with
my husband and another couple to try it out. We loved it so much we took another couple there a couple months later. Great atmosphere, great wine (ask Steve for recommendations - he's AWESOME), and great food! They really go out of their way to make sure everyone has an enjoyable experience. One woman in our party was pregnant, but the bartender made some fabulous virgin drinks for her, which she really enjoyed. I recommend the fish sticks (totally not what you are thinking), hamachi crudo, chicken & the egg (which comes with bacon-broccolini mac & cheese - YUM!) and angry bronzino."

Apartment 13 has a warm, inviting
feel. Wait staff are the perfect amount of friendly and professional, the food is unique and offers an excellent menu for all types of diners and foodies."

Unfortunately our dinner at
Apartment 13 was quite a disappointment. I read about the fireplace they have and about how cozy it should be. This wasn't the case at all. They seated us at one of the tables outside where the heaters don't really work and where rain was poring in. The mussels were like gum. I kept on chewing them until they became like a hard ball of..well, chewed mussel...and had to put that on my plate. Not recommended at all."

The oysters and clams were
outstanding. The pork belly and pozole is so yummy as was the lamb chop and quinoa salad. Skip the sweets. The restaurant has a cozy decor with a high ceiling and fireplace adding nice ambience and the wait staff gave just the right amount of attention."

Had New Years Eve dinner here with
hubby and two teenage sons. The food was well prepared, well presented and delicious on the whole, but with desserts being a little weak. The service was friendly and welcoming, but somewhat forgetful and spacy. It would be nicer if the drinks and food could arrive at the same time. The atmosphere was cozy and we had a prime seat by the fireplace. The music was lively and everyone seemed to enjoy it for a while, but then old Madonna and No Doubt tunes lose their charm after the first two times. The music doesn't really jibe with the old school surroundings. On the whole we enjoyed our night and would like to try it again when the weather is warmer to experience the inviting outdoor patios."

Interesting drinks list, nice menu
and a fire in the fireplace. Very competent service and the atmosphere was really cosy. I would go back."

One of the best meals I have had
in NYC. Understated menu is spot on with perfect execution. Bar menu is both innovative and approachable. I highly recommend it!!"

Wanted to try something new in the
neighborhood, stumbled upon Apartment 13 and made a reservation via open table. The food and wine was excellent, service outstanding (Hilary was great!) and the price wasn't that bad. MUST try before it becomes too popular, because it will!"

Had a great experience..food was
amazing. Loved the fish tea and crab cake."
Dined on 12/6/2013
The food was good, but not
spectacular, and the menu was odd. Apart from that, there were so many other issues. There was no coat check. No place for wet umbrellas. We were put in an "annex room" that had plastic instead of windows--it was freezing. They should have invested in some heaters. The waitress was nice, but inexperienced, taking too long to take our orders. They were out of the wine we ordered. The appetizers came out sequentially, rather than together. The noise level was unsupportable. The experience was not really worth $100/person."

Neighborhood spot with food that
is stepped up a notch. Get the Chicken and the Egg dish, you won't be disappointed. Loved how all the items on the menu had drink pairing suggestions. Excellent spot for a date or dinner pre-going out on the town."

a nondescript intimate space,
perhaps 16 seats upstairs (but there was a closed outdoor space). We waited 30 minutes four our 7pm reservation, but were seated beside a wonderful wood burning fireplace. The wine list was limited - a broad stroke from which to choose, but not an oenophile's gem. We enjoyed a young barbera, which was quite nice. The menu is limited, but also offers something for everyone's palate. We opened with pears and blue, and a crab cake. our mains were steak and fries, fish tea, and the burger. Each was enjoyable and nicely proportioned. We ordered each of the three offered desserts- peaches and cream, pumpkin cheesecake, and pot of chocolate. Each were good - the chocolate being most memorable. Worth going."

Three of us had a fully satisfying
dinner here and immediately made reservations to bring family members to another meal. Lovely atmosphere near the fireplace in the tastefully decorated brick second floor of an ancient brownstone. Good service. No crowding of tables. We tasted each others drinks and food. The bread was a delicious omen. We enjoyed the cocktails, the oysters (3 NE locations, Montauk, Conn. & Canada) fishcakes and hamachi. The "fish tea" (halibut) also stood out. Crabcakes were the best we've ever had. If I was alone or with just one other person, the first-floor bar looks like a very nice place to eat."

You have to try the Chicken and
the Egg dish...its absolutely delicious. Perfectly roasted so the inside is moist and tender while the outside is crispy yet succulent with herbs and spices. The fried egg over the top of the mac-and-cheese broccolini is perfect as a side while the compliment the chicken with a sriracha chili sauce for some spiciness. The drinks are amazing as they've hit just about every type of spirit possible for those who have a specific preference yet they also pair them with each of their entrees so you know what would be the perfect compliment. This place has great service and really hits all the points you'd want out of a great dining experience."

The food, decor, and staff here
are wonderful. Fun menu with a staff that knows it well and can make great recommendations. I went with a party of 4 and all of us left very happy with the food and the staff. The atmosphere is fun with downstairs being a bit louder and more relaxed and upstairs being better suited for a more romantic feel. Overall, a great night out!!"

Myself and two colleagues had the
pleasure of dining at Apartment 13 this week while in NYC for work. All three of us eat out often in SF (where we have no shortage of amazing restaurants) and we were all impressed. We were seated upstairs next to the wood burning fireplace and had an absolutely wonderful evening. Food and cocktails were incredible. The crab cakes were perhaps the best I've had. Fish tea was savoury and flavourful. The owners (a couple) passed by several times to chat and were so sincere and sweet. Chose this place based on very few (but excellent) reviews (because it's so new it doesn't have many yet) and so happy we took the chance. Go now, because I expect getting reservations once this place takes off could be tricky."

I chose this restaurant because of
the huge number of positive reviews that I saw both here and on Yelp... I'm surprised by how much all of the other reviewers loved this restaurant. The biggest issue was the service... Our waitress was useless and unhelpful in every way. We asked her about one of the wines, and she didn't know anything about it. She didn't have any opinions about the restaurant's best dishes. Our food took forever to come... I don't know if she forgot to put our order in, but plenty of tables came in after us and had eaten and left before we got our food. The space is cute, but the feng shui was off for some reason. There's definitely more exciting restaurants to eat at in the neighborhood!"

As city dwellers, we love dining
out in the city and often try new places. While many are good, few stand out, but this one did with a great menu, really nice atmosphere (including a wood burning fireplace) and maybe most of all the welcoming staff. Chef/owner John makes you feel like you are dining at his home (hence the apartment name..). If this place was in my neighborhood I would be a regular for sure, and will certainly be returning. Fish tea and the chicken and egg were both standouts. Nice cocktails and wine pairing suggestions, and all at very reasonable prices. This place is a winner all the way around."

I was looking for a reservation on
a Saturday night and happened into this place. It was nicely decorated and the staff was enthusiastic. They have an extensive drink menu. We started with oysters from the raw bar and they were fabulous. We shared the fish sticks appetizer which was delicious. The black cod was wrapped in lettuce leaves and had a sweet delicate miso flavor. I had the halibut which was wonderful. The "soup" had many layers of flavor, the bok choy was tender and the fish was perfectly seasoned. My friend had the pork belly which he thoroughly enjoyed. The pot of chocolate dessert was first rate. I wish there were a restaurant like this in my neighborhood but, despite the distance, I will return."

Killer cocktails are only the
beginning at Apt 13, but we could have stopped there and been huge fans! Our dinner was extraordinary---crab cake, oysters and the fish tea were our favorites and pretty much all that we tried during this visit. Excited to go back and try more!"

From start to finish, each and
every member of the staff greeted us warmly and were very attentive. The had a good balance of not too much or too little small talk while they were serving us. Good vibe and quality overall from service, to the food, to smiles. They did not hesitate to take extra steps because of a food allergy. Once you are done with your meal, the neighborhood has many great and unexpected places to try from bars to dessert."

My girlfriend and I had a blast!
The food was amazing (especially the Miso Cod fish sticks and Broccoli Mac and Cheese) and service even better. Would highly recommend for a date. Great find!"

We went to Apartment 13 on a
recommendation from a friend who said she loved the food. We were not disappointed at all. Everything was delicious and we even met the chef who was really appreciative of our feed back. He even sent us free deserts, which were unbelievable. I will go back again. Try the clam in beer and the chicken and the egg as well."

the food was so good, the decor is
great - the staff was really open/friendly and the service was perfect. Whatever kinks they had in the first month are 100% gone now. 6 people and not one person was unhappy with the food and service. great mix on the menu too - something for everyone. Cocktails were great - go early to have one or two before your dinner....can't wait to go back...cheers to the staff and Chef john for opening a great restaurant that will stand out in the East Village.....not an easy thing to do...."

My girlfriend and I had dinner
this Past Sat. The food was very good. The service outstanding. Our server even recommended a place to have a after dinner drink. We will back!"
Dined on 9/15/2013
it's too early to really tell, but
the food was very good and that is something to build upon. service needs to iron out quite a few details and the cocktail/wine list could use some skewing towards a more mature clientele. the future sherry program is something to look forward, but the waiters should be aware of a difference between sweet and dry. Plus points for trying hard to accommodate and to please and for a very successful infusion of Japanese elements. Hamachi Crudo is a little gem and Fish Tea is one of the most successful Japanese fusion meals far and wide. worth checking out again once they had enough time to get serious."
Dined on 8/24/2013
Apt. 13 opened its doors only a
few days before my dining experience. There were a few glitches throughout the evening; however, I am sure that within a few weeks of service they will be in great shape. The food was excellent and the cocktails delicious! Can't wait to go back again!"
