A word from AOC
Located in the heart of New York City's West Village, A.O.C. has become a part of the historic and beautiful neighborhood.

Our extensive menu is a collaboration of handed down family recipes from the chef/owner, Romain Bonnans, and classic French fare.

Savor everything from Omelets to Feuille de Brique for brunch. For dinner you might try our Moules Marinieres (a favorite among our customers), a classic Salad Nicoise or a Lobster Risotto, all while enjoying the casual atmosphere. In the summer months, relax in our outdoor garden and experience a little bit of France.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Did not clear plates on a timely fashion. Waited 20 min for my glass of wine"

  • "We tried three different wines by the glass and none was satisfactory. The waiter kindly replaced the first red, but the second was hardly any better. The foie gras had a bitter aftertaste, and the mushroom/seafood risotto was overcooked and then completely spoiled by gobs of melted cheese. In my book a light touch with freshly ground good hard cheese such as Reggio Parmigiano added just before serving is all that is needed. On the other hand, the service and hostess were very friendly and honored our request made on OpenTable for a garden table. The garden is quite nice; it's too bad the food we ordered was not worthy of the nice setting."

  • "The food is excellent. the service is good. Their outdoor garden is really nice b ut their indoorspace is nice and light also. The noise level was OK considering the fact that the soccer game was on."

  • "love the garden, the waiter was very patient since my friends were late"

  • "I went thinking that it would be like the AOC in LA. Nothing like it. Service very slow and in attentive. Ambiance iffy. Food practically not eatable. I was embarrassed because I brought a guest."

  • "Reasonably priced well prepared French food in a nice bistro setting. Attentive service. If you want to sit in the outdoor garden area, better reserve it. Visiting NYC over a weekend, was invited to brunch there and, being completely satisfied, went back for dinner."

  • "The hostess seemed anxious when we arrived. Our server was kind enough, after our appetizers had been cleared he asked how everything was, then if we wanted to see a desert menu, he seemed confused when we said we had not received our entrees yet. When the busboy brought out the entrees he had to ask us to take them out of his hands because he had carried to much at once, the plates were hot, heavy, and awkwardly weighted so this was no easy task from the sitting position. Again, the food was really yummy, but the busboy tried to clear our plates 3 times before we were finished, there was still a good deal of food the first 2 times he tried. between the main course and desert we asked for more water, we asked 5 times before we received it."

  • "The food is reasonably priced, delicious and the atmoshere wonderful in this airy garden setting."

  • "Mussels, and duck were outstanding. The wine list left a bit to be desired. The servers were not very attentive and half the time they were more focused on watching the World Cup than making sure tables were taken care of properly."

  • "Enjoyed the spot and food and wine. Service was a bit awkward: 2 or 3 different people waited on us more or less. One waiter was very nice but would benefit from some training on how to serve wine. Very happy with our meals (a steak and the half chicken)."

  • "reasonable prices for standard fare with a french flare. Lunch menu allows for breakfast items as well as salads and sandwiches. service on the slow side --which was odd as we were the first ones in the restaurant but we were not in a hurry so didn't mind too much."

  • "I picked this spot to bring my mom for dinner and it was a great choice. The service was very friendly, the ambiance was nice and relaxed and not too pretentious or noisy and the food was solid. We were very happy with the choice."

  • "Went here for dinner before a show at the nearby Barrow Street Theater. The decor is old, nothing fancy, but pleasant enough, including the garden setting. The drinks were ample and superb. The salmon with lemon caper sauce, outstanding. The duck confit seemed somewhat overcooked (good, but have had better)."

  • "The new waiters have to be more attentive and a little more formal. For example they shouldn't touch the customer when explaining things. Food and selections are all good. But I wouldn't call anything great. Decor is amazing for the garden. Overall would recommend as long as don't have super great expectations. "

  • "The staff is as charming as the restaurant. Nestled on the corner of Bleeker & Grove it's easy to ppl watch while sampling a board of stinky cheese, along with an exceptional wine with to pair perfectly with the cheese or dinner! "

  • "Our waiter was good but manager and cooks are why I will never return. My wife and I both ordered red meat we requested cooked medium. My burger looked like it sat under to heat lamp for an hour and the meat was dark grey. My wife sent back her steak because there was no read meat on the whole plate. The manager came over and acted surprised we sent it back. No lie 3 minutes later they had claimed to have cooked a new streak. All they did is have someone in the kitchen put red food die on the top pieces because when she cut through the steak it was dark grey like my burger. Safe to say we will never return. "

  • "A small, neatly tucked away, French restaurant with the most eclectic menu you will ever find. But everything, from the wine right down to the adult Truffle Mac and Cheese is fantastic."

  • "We stumbled upon this restaurant much to our delight. The food was amazing. We sat in the back courtyard and felt as if we were outside of the city. Such a lovely place, we cannot wait to return! "

  • "Our experience was not a good one. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. We saw the waiter only twice one was for the check. The food was good but the service was dreadful. With so many great restaurants around the area, it is a shame that the services was horrible. We were not the only ones complaining. We sawany clients saying the same thing. "

  • "Terrible service - took 30 min for our order to be taken and when food came, one of our party who ordered same meal as other guests didn't receive entree. After getting waiters attention he said hers required longer but was coming - ( it was the same exact entree someone else at table ordered) it came more than 10 minutes after everyone else's. the waiter did not apologize"

  • "I went for a special wine week deal that was cheaper than the normal prices. Upon realizing that we were not going to drop hundreds of dollars, the waiter was very curt with us and did not give us much attention at all. The food and wine were great regardless."

  • "I had walked by this place many times and read some good reviews. Tried it out on a Sunday night and we were lucky to score a table in the garden. Service was a bit slow, but the food was good, the set-up is spacious and it wasn't very busy. "

  • "I had the worst experience I have EVER had dining out in NYC at AOC. The manager was beyond rude & nasty (as was our waitress)-- I was actually in shock someone in customer service would behave that way. The restaurant refused to fix an error the waitress made and said deal with it. They wouldn't rush out a new entree so I could dine with my family on Mother's Day --I had to just sit there and left without eating. With all the restaurant options in NYC, there is no need to dine somewhere where they clearly don't want your business. Never again!!"

  • "This place may have been decent in the past but it's apparent they just don't care. Service was abysmal - waiter couldn't tell us how foie gras was prepared (it's just sliced) nor could he describe the 3 sauces that came with the calamari. My wife's drink glass was chipped and when we asked for a new glass, no apology. We ordered two glasses of wine and neither came before we finished with dinner. Waiter was incompetent - MIA most of the dinner and then when he did appear he would not look around or check on table. Place seemed disorganized and understaffed. Do not recommend - I'll never be back."

  • "We can depend on a good meal and service here but the hostess during this visit was very brusque and a smile would have cracked her face. Hopefully next time she'll be in a better mood."

  • "AOC serves classic French dishes and does it well. The wait staff is oddly abrupt. Kept trying to remove plates, several times, before we were done. Generally lacking in charm and grace. I do recommend the food. "

  • "Very good wine list and reasonably priced great food in an ever increasingly expensive West Village. "

  • "Have been here many times and have always had a wonderful time!! Food and service is excellent. Went with another couple they loved the food too. Only negative is food is a little pricey but well worth the cost. Nice bonus is in nice weather they have a great courtyard in the back."

  • "I have been there several times and continue to think of AOC as a terrific gem of a place! The food is excellent, as is the service; Delightful French food at very reasonable prices. The staff is gracious & welcoming, & not at all stuffy. They have advertised Groupons, and, unlike some other restaurants, welcomed their use. Much to my surprise, on my last visit it learned that in addition to the quaint little restaurant you see through the windows, there is a back room hidden behind the bar! Restaurants may come & go but AOC is one place I really hope will remain."

  • "My husband and I had just got into NYC late Saturday with no reservations for dinner. We ended up near Bleecker St. and found AOC on Ope Table. Great food and fun atmosphere. Both of us had Italian dishes. It appeared that all patrons around us were having a great time, including us."

  • "we hosted a family Sunday brunch and everyone enjoyed themselves. basic good food with a slight upscale edge. everything was enjoyed, the service was good, and we found them to be very accomodating. we would certainly go back."

  • "We were looking forward to this French Bistro in the West Village. Unfortunately the food was not very good. Poulet was dried out. Prep was sloppy. However, the service was good, and the restaurant had two no corkage nights a week! If only the food was better, it would be quite a find."

  • "I used to go to this restaurant over a decade ago as my go-to Village restaurant - formerly known as The Grove. We went here because we wanted mussels and despite so-so yelp recommendations, we wanted to give it a try. Loved it! The cauliflower gratin was delicious and others loved the truffle mac and cheese. I had no trouble finding gluten free options and my friends had interesting vegetarian options too. Will be back!"

  • "It was an off night for the restaurant. We've been there before and it has always been a great experience, but not our most recent visit. The service was slow. After our appetizers were served is was a full half hour before the main course arrived. Even more annoying was that people who had come in long after we did were served before us. Two of the main courses were sent back because they were overcooked, even though we had specified rare. The wait staff was friendly enough and were quick to redo the dinners. We will go back again, chalking it up to an off night."

  • "It was a great meal, so easy, no fuss with seating or anything (we had a reservation, but most tables were empty at 7pm on a Friday night). The service was good, attentive and nice. The food was good, I had the duck which was 3/4 good, but a bit dry. My husband's mushroom risotto was really well liked. Overall it was good!"

  • "The menu at this restaurant was the initial draw but the ambiance and service took it to an even higher level. Something for everyone to eat. Large wine menu with every French wine imaginable. They were very understanding and accommodating in terms of changing the time and number in party."
