Diner Reviews
  • "Dinner was very nice out on their patio. Loved all four of our selections including polenta platter, pea avocado salad, burrata foccacia, and fingerlings."

  • "It was pretty noisy and crowded when I got there. No room at the bar nor barely any room to wait for our table. I managed to get a table outside like I had requested after convincing the host where it was not as loud. We ordered many small dishes. The composition on some of them surprised me. Like the octopus that was piled underneath greens. It was just kind of an ink mess for example but tasted good but the plating was less than impressive. Same thing went for many of the other dishes: small piles of stuff on plates. It just surprised me even though the flavor and textures were well made and pretty balanced."

  • "It saddens me to write that only the outdoor ambiance is a reason to go to AOC . Possibly due to the manager not being at the helm, the service was non-existent. We had to request that empty glasses, and dishes be removed throughout our evening. A Halibut dish was so pervasively salty that we could not get past one bite, and back it went. A Cauliflower dish swam in oil, and only one dish was something we would order again. That was a "Farmer's Plate" consisting of grilled slices of bread, some buratta, chick pea paste, a spiced red pepper spread and roasted vegetables. Our restaurant dollars will be better spent at a restaurant such as Cliff's Edge, should we want well prepared food, to go along with an al fresco experience."

  • "Horrible service. We were seated promptly , then waited 30 minutes for the server /waitress to come over and acknowledge us ! Horrifying. Very rude waitress !"

  • "Great ambience; great food, great location, great, great, great - really nothing more to say - just GREAT"

  • "Was delighted with our brunch experience. Had a beautiful outdoor table, and the service was good even though there was a little bouncing around between servers. Drinks were a little slow, but it was very busy and my drink did require a freshly brewed espresso shot. Food was outstanding. Bacon wrapped dates are a must and don't waste your time on any other bread than the perfectly grilled blueberry bread with lemon butter. I'm not a big dessert person, but I tried a bite of the chocolate torte and it was delicious."

  • "maybe outside is better, but we yelled to be heard throughout our meal"

  • "We were seated at a booth in the dining room across from the bar. The noise level was so loud the four of us were all shouting. One of us wears hearing aids and asked to be moved to the quieter outdoor dining patio. The hostess told us that all the tables were reserved; however, if a table came available we would be moved. Elisa Terrazas, the manager, came to our table to confirm what the hostess has told us. After several small plates a table was available on the patio. We moved tables without disrupting our meal. We were SO appreciative that Elisa and her team acknowledged the noise problem and were able to do something about the situation by moving us to a primo patio table. We will be back and request outdoor dining table."

  • "Went for dinner. Had a great drink at the bar before going to the table in the patio which I believe is preferable to the noisy dining room. We avoided the large platters and chose small plates for the 2 of us to share--a terrific corn salad, a tasty soft shell crab, Spanish fried chicken, a rich flat bread topped with a fried egg, and a large vintners platter with pickled veg, two cheeses and an assortment of salumi. Very interesting all and plenty of food. Had a delicious chocolate cake for dessert. Well worth the moderate (for LA)price. Would definitely return although it is not apparent why this was selected the best in LA--but it is very good."

  • "Had brunch at AOC on Saturday and sat at the patio. The blueberry bread, roast turkey sandwich and grilled tuna salad are delicious. The services are great. Will return."

  • "Nice date place or girls who lunch on patio. Vibrant after work bar scene. Tasty tapas portions of creative food elegantly presented."

  • "Wanted to see what all the hype was about, dineLA was a motivating factor for lunch. I have to say, pretty darn good. I had the best turkey sandwich of my life, a basic done very, very well. Overall pleasantly surprised by the all around delicious food. It is quite the scene and although I loved the patio space, it was a tight. I would definitely go again some time mid week/mid day to avoid crowd, if possible."

  • "I enjoy dining on the patio at AOC. Food is excellent and service is generally attentive. However, my friend was seated before me and offered olives and almonds before she looked at a menu. She hadn't dined at AOC previously, didn't realize that this was an offer for charged items. She accepted the offer. While we can both afford the extra charge and may well have ordered one or the other item anyway, I think that the offer should be made in such a way that the guest understands that s/he will be charged for the item (i.e. would you care to start with a small appetizer while you wait?). That said, the olives are excellent, as are the almonds, and the portions are relatively generous for the $5 charge."

  • "I selected it for a 3 way birthday lunch after visiting LACMA. Our server was outstanding as was the ambience, a far cry from the So. Bay!! But two of us ordered the Soft Shell Crab/Fried Green Tomato entree and it was not very good!! But the dessert plate for 2 made up for it!! Delicious...."

  • "My husband and I had a great midweek lunch. We both loved our dishes. And that says a lot when I'm a vegetarian and he loves his burgers. Eclectic wine list and delicious dessert. Nice outdoor patio and cool indoor seating."

  • "Definitely better food and service than before. Very nice wine by the glass."

  • "First time at AOC and won't be the last. Excellent food, well-prepared with local ingredients and beautifully presented. Dining in the courtyard is a real treat and I would highly recommend it. Service was casual while the waiter was very informative and helpful in making choices from the many small-plate dishes offered. Order most food at the beginning of the meal and it comes out in stages throughout your stay. I had been concerned about all the food arriving at once (3-5 small plates per person) but it was a smooth and nice transition as one or two dishes were presented. Timing between courses was good. Only complaint: espressos took way too long to be served after being ordered. Excellent quality meal for reasonable price."

  • "Too many LA restaurants say their food is great, but few live up to that claim. AOC does, and then some. Sure, at peak hours it's "vibrant" and at times a bit loud, but the overall atmosphere, décor, ambience, and service are all near perfect. And whoever is quarterbacking the running of this terrific Tapas restaurant, and whoever the people are in the kitchen performing the magical cuisine, they should get lots of approval not to mention return business. This place is a winner. We've been there before, and we'll be back again....a lot."

  • "The small plates were fantastic and no matter how good we THOUGHT they would be, each impressed just a little more than intended. The wine list was great and the staff helped us pick a perfect bottle that paired with our cheese plate and dinner selections. Really happy we got a chance to make it out here (we live in Manhattan Beach) but I'm sure we'll be making the trip regularly."

  • "I am from San Francisco so pretty spoiled in terms of dining but there is nothing like AOC in the Bay Area. The food is fantastic and the service is outstanding. I've been fortunate enough to be seated in the outdoor patio both times I've dined in AOC and it is simply gorgeous. Their pork rillette is beyond good... the best rillette I've ever had. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world!"

  • "A truly special dining experience. Varied small plates have something for everyone. Pork belly is outstanding. Great wines and great servers to help with pairings. Worth waiting for a table in the courtyard."

  • "I'm addicted to the turkey focaccia sandwich and had the refreshing Goddess drink. The Butterscotch Pot Au Creme was amazing."

  • "The patio at AOC on Third is a lovely refuge from the frenetic pace of a work day. I've had outstanding lunches here before. This time, the flavors and textures of the chopped Indian salad just didn't come together. Bit I'll certainly be back."

  • "I went with 2 other friends and we went at 9:30 on a Tuesday and it was packed. We had cocktails, a couple of bottles of white wine and sat outside. The wine list had a lot of selections for very rare places which was fun to see. We ordered a lot of food and most of it amazing. The arroz Nero was crazy good! The monk fish was kinda expensive for the quality and had far too many hard to eat vegetables. Overall great place and I will definitely reccommend this to others and go back occasionally."

  • "Everything about our dinner was terrific! A.O.C. is always our first choice for lunch or dinner when guests come in from out of town. Such a special place! We can't wait to go back!"

  • "We so anticipated trying AOC. Took an out-of-town guest. We all were disappointed with the food. Except for the Farmer's Platter, every dish we tried (and we tried many) was over-salted. Very disappointed!"

  • "This restaurant continues to be a favorite -- and with good reason. A delicious menu, incredible wine list (including one of the more impressive selections by the glass), interesting cocktails and a setting that is hard to beat. If you have someone in from out of town, this is a must on the itinerary."

  • "My 3rd time @ AOC. As a NY-er, this is the quintessential SoCal place: beautiful indoor-outdoor ambiance; Mediterranean influenced, yet inventive food; fresh ingredients; great wines; casual elegance. I will be back again."

  • "I'm quite the foodie. I love restaurants that have a specialty for Tapas/Small plates. I love to take my time ordering various things, relaxing with a drink or two. This place is, highly (extremely) overated. We ordered several small plates, one of which included a cheese plate. They're all described with fancy names and elegant descriptions. I was absolutely disappointed to say the least. The cheese plate, was at minimum to describe - Trader Joes quality cheapest of the cheap cheeses and nuts. The waitress described everything as "unique taste that you would never have experienced". I experienced all of those items at Trader Joes wrapped in cheap plastic. The bread was hard enough that I was concerned I would break a veneer."

  • "I was a little disappointed as it was our wedding anniversary and were given a small table on the patio. My husband and I were dressed very nicely other diners were not very careful with their attire (sigh). The server was great but her blouse was dirty. The busboy was amazing. The food was eclectic and very tasty. I guess I would try again.....and wear a pair of jeans!"

  • "I've had many, many meals at both the former and current AOC locations, and it is always terrific. I cannot recall a single bite or sip that I did not enjoy fully. They were also highly accommodating to one of my guests who is vegan; she thought it was the best vegan meal in an entire week of meals in California. AOC is the absolute best."

  • "I now can't believe I had never eaten at AOC until two days ago. Now ensconced in the former Orso space, the perfect food can be enjoyed in the perfect setting. Truly, we were blown away by everything - the little gems salad, the brioche and prosciutto (to die for), the hanger steak, the fried chicken, the roasted cauliflower, the farro, the bittersweet chocolate torta, the strawberry/rhubarb crisp. Most of the offerings are served on small plates. Perfect to share and ideal for sampling a wide variety. Our waiter was great and the white bull cocktails are dangerously addicting. The outdoor Mediterranean-styled patio is charming and romantic. One of the best dining experiences of my life (seriously). We can't wait to go back."
