ANZUHidden GemYou have to know it's there. Hidden on the second floor of the Hotel Nikko, ANZU is an elegant place for luch and dinner with attentive service and great food.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, but menus out of synchWe went here for Dine About Town having looked at the online menu with the OpenTable App. The DAT menu looked great, but when we got to the restaurant there were multiple differences with that menu.
We both decided to go with the regular menu, and had a great time. The place and the food was fantastic, especially the "The Fog" dessert - that's an experience.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceMy husband and I really enjoyed anzu. Fantastic food, service, and ambiance. Try the sushi and creative desserts.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMjust greatWe come back every time we are in San Francisco. It is a great place to dine in every respect. The grilled scallops and the black cod were un beatable.
Thanks to Anzu and also again for the service.
Dr Oelsner5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulousTo counter a review we read - we found the decor and ambiance chic5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat price fix lunch. OutstandingGreat price fix lunch. Outstanding food, beautiful room, wonderful dining experience5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of their steak entréesOne of their steak entrées was not up to the other selections: meat was tough5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA Nice EveningThe restaurant was in the Nikko Hotel, and was a little difficult to locate, but was nice and quiet. It definitely had Asian influence. I don't do anything raw, but enjoyed cooking the special Japanese beef on the hot stone for an appetizer. I had the Free Range Chicken, which seemed a little dry at first, but as a leftover and was more tasty. We split a Chocolate Banana dessert, which was excellent, both in the presentation and the taste.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMANZU & FEINSTEIN'SWent on the Feinstein's dinner package. Food is very good and service outstanding but the dinner package has very gourmet entree choices....no chicken or beef. Menu is heavy on fish with fish starter and salmon as first entree choice. Regular menu has many more options, including chicken and beef. Pricey, but great place for special occasion.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, service was lackingWe went to Anzu on a Saturday night and the restaurant was not busy at 8:30. Our server was friendly but not very attentive. We ended up waiting a good 15 minutes between dinner and dessert, and then another 15 minutes after we were ready to go for our check and only got our water refilled after everyone had completely run out. The food was excellent though. We were there for our daughter's birthday and they brought out a dessert with dry ice underneath. She got such a kick out of that! It was a definite hit! The atmosphere was very enjoyable. Modern without being stuffy. We will be back to Anzu only if we are staying at the Nikko as it was very convenient.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMANZU & FEINSTEIN DINNER PACKAGEWe enjoyed delicious dinners. Portions were small but adequate; very tasty and beautifully presented. Servers were attentive and very accommodating with regard to special requests/substitutions. As to show and dinner package....Even with $30 per meal credit toward $39 prix fixe meal, with bottled water, tax and tip on top of show ticket, it's a pricey evening.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for us!"The Rock" starter = 10+. Service and creative other appetizers and rolls = 10++. A treat for us, big time, and not toooo expensive.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMfun food!I was a little concerned after reading mixed reviews but this ended up being a great place to eat. Started with a fabulouse sushi roll, then a fresh and delicious salad, finished with hot rock beef. The sushi was the best I've had a long time. Hot rock was tasty and fun. Nice atmosphere and I will say I enjoy eating dinner where I can have a conversation - it was busy but the noise level was not loud. I would definitely go back! The dessert was very good too!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceTry the black cod, melt in my mouth. One of the bests cod I had - great taste and cook it just right.
The pork was equally good too.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial!Took my daughter there after a visit to San Francisco. It was delicious and the menu versatile. Service was excellent! We enjoyed our appetizers, drinks, rolls, and the hot rock plate. Good and fun.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly recommend for lunchTook at special guest from Japan to lunch here and it was perfect. It is a beautiful restaurant. The food and the service were excellent.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA warm and inviting restaurant,A warm and inviting restaurant, with a modern flair and great staff! Although I love great food, I won't waste time on restaurants that have less that exceptional staff. ANZU hit the mark with great food (Make sure you try the Fog for dessert!) and a wonderful ambiance. But it was our wait staff, Chris and his team, that made our dinner extraordinary.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and fabulous dinnerI was very impressed with Anzu. It was a pre-theatre choice for my husband and me. The food was delicious and the presentation was exquisite. The waitress was delightful and very knowledgeable about the food. The noise level was great for an easy conversation, and all in all, it was a fantastic dining experience. We will be returning to Anzu in the near future. What a great find in downtown San Francisco!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch special with SalmonLunch special with Salmon was great and fast. Perfect before the matinee at the Curran.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI was a little disappointedI was a little disappointed that there was no sushi in the buffet offering. It's been awhile since I've been there. Good atmosphere and very good service.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the best food I haveThis was the best food I have had in a long time. The staff, food and presentation was exceptional.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI needed to attange a dinnerI needed to attange a dinner for 12 people on short notice and Anzu was able to accomodate us. We were seated promptly and the service was excellent. The wine list was good with a reasonable markup. Our group had a mix of the sushi dishes and the western dishes. Everyone seemed pleased but not overwelmed. My husband had sushi and thought the portions were small. I had the filet which was cooked appropriately and seasoned well. The setting was very attractive and there was not a lot of background noise so we were able to converse which we enjoyed.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe signature dessert is The FogOur first time at Anzu was splendid! The waitstaff were advised upon arrival that I had just learned that it was my friend's birthday that day. No problem, I was told. So after the tasty clam first course that we shared and excellent entrees the signature dessert at Anzu called The Fog with birthday candle arrived. For chocolate lovers, The Fog is a must!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFine dining hotel restaurantWe stayed at the Hotel Nikko and decided to have dinner at this restaurant. Husband had the crab cakes which he really liked. For his meal, he had a chicken dish, which was just ok. I had the shrimp rigatoni with cream sauce. It was good, but due to my lack of tolerance for spice, it was a little bland.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brunch buffetWe really enjoyed the brunch buffet. It was really worth the price. The buffet had a spread from danish, cereal, yogart to salami, cheese, smoke fish. The American dishes were eggs, bacon, sausage, pancake and potato. The buffet also had Japanese dishes like miso soup, natto (yikes), kamaboko (fish cake), various sukemono (pickled vegetables)and grilled fish. Love those packets of nori with my hot rice.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat placeWe have back to Anzu every time we are in SF. Great place!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing! My senior prom was hosted at the Nikko Hotel, so my date and I dined at ANZU for convinence. The restutaunt is amazing and the service was incredible. We started with a 7-piece sashimi plate. It was amazing! I had the ahi tuna and my date had the shrimp pasta. I thought his was better that mine, mostly because I felt that after eating the sushi, I wasn't really in the mood for more fish. It was still good though, don't get me wrong. The truffle mac and cheese was pretty good as well. I left feeling greatly appreciated and immensely happy with the service.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time to Anzu..the serviceFirst time to Anzu..the service was impeccable, the food delicious and the decor wonderful..... will definitely go back !!!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday brunch.Took my girlfriend for her birthday and it was a great choice. The servers were friendly and very informative about the menu.
I mentioned it was her birthday as try surprised us both with a desert and a candle followed by the staff singing for her day. Completed the brunch very well.
Thank you all so much for the special day.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding on all counts! We decided to try Anzu as it was close to the Theater. The restaurant called earlier in the day to confirm our reservation, and I mentioned that we were going to the theater -- had not put it in the special notes on OpenTable. When we arrived, we were immediately seated and the hostess commented that she'd alerted our server that we were going to the theater. Menu is sushi/sashimi on one side (two sushi chefs) and California-Asian blend on the other. The descriptions of the dishes were accurate, but didn't reveal the beautiful presentations. There wasn't a single item we didn't enjoy, and we dine out often enough to be very picky. We will be returning the next time we have a Best of Broadway show in the City.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent brunch dealThe brunch food here was far better than I expected. Lots of good, healthy salads mixed with carving stations and comfort food. The buffet includes a dessert table that is just the right size. We will definitely be back.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful staff. Warm, gracious,Wonderful staff. Warm, gracious, helpful. Genuinely friendly, yet efficient.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery bit as opulent as theEvery bit as opulent as the Ritz Carlton for a third the price. Their combination of oriental and continental was surprising and good. The oysters were small and delicious. I would definitely come back to this buffet.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful meal - great server.Wonderful meal - great server. Was a "date night" in SF for us, leisuresly pace which we welcomed. Our server apologized that the kitchen was slow, we told him not to worry but he comped us dessert just the same. Sashimi sampler and the Ahi Steak with the coconut brown rice were wonderful. My husband liked the duck - very rich but good.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAnzu appears to be a lunch-timeAnzu appears to be a lunch-time secret, not nearly as crowded as it deserves. The decor and the service were top notch. The food (selection, preparation and taste) were very good and the price was quite reasonable. It was a joy! This restaurant could become our first choice for taking guests in San Francisco.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first visit, andThis was my first visit, and we went for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had an express lunch. For $18.95 you get tasty soup, a lovely saled, 2 crab rolls, a choice from 3 small entrees, a delicious and beautifully presented dessert, and coffee or tea. What a value! Service was very friendly and attentive, and our experience was one we'd like to repeat.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI was quite surprised andI was quite surprised and how good this was. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. My husband loves sushi and I don't so this was perfect. They have a huge sushi menu as well as a large number of other very appealing entrees. We will be back.1/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went before going to theWe went before going to the Punchline Comedy club.
