We usually come here before the show at Feinstein's. However... our last experience (and all experiences) have convinced me that this is a nice place for drinks or dinner sans show. Happy Hour price for their signature cocktails is a deal. $10. Very peaceful place upstairs. Downstairs more "swinging." And... if you have kids/grandkids don't miss the 500 "bongo concert" in the main salon/floor. Good time.

I made 5:30pm pre-theater reservation for an 8pm show. Ran 15 minutes late. The waitress put a rush on my pre-fix menu with wine pairing and made sure I was out of the door by 7:30pm. She also let me tried a new sparking sake "Moi" which was smooth and refreshing. Food and wine choices were great but the food was a bit too salty. I ended up drinking 3 bottles of water before I went to bed. I was also surprised by the price ($33 prefix/$55 with wine paring). I guess I am too used to the high price pre-fix menus from the Peninsula restaurants.

Food was very good, especially the deserts which were creative and tasty. Service was disappointing: A drink took 30 minutes to arrive from the bar, food took forever to be served. A soup was forgotten and then served after the other appetizers. Waiters did not make eye contact and were not available most of the time.

While the food is good, the service is incredibly slow for a sushi restaurant(0r any for that matter) and many errors occurred during the process; not to mention incredibly long delays between courses. While the management Team did apologize for such, it was obvious to our group that the restaurant simply does not have sufficient sushi Chefs to meet demand efficiently. And, the restaurant was only about 50% of capacity one hour into our meal; making it even more offensive given the fact we arrived at restaurant and it was virtually empty before others came.

This place just gets better and better. The tables are not crowded together and a party of 6 can actually converse. Choose between a la carte, a 4 course prix fixe menu that is a steal, and sushi! The food is beautifully-presented, and delicious. The cocktails are creative, and they give you a packaged frosted cup cake at the end, even if you've already had dessert. I had forgotten to mention the 2 birthdays in our group of 4 until the check arrived; our server then took our desserts off the bill! And the location is accessible for both the Geary and Market street theaters. Try this place - you won't be sorry!!

This is the second time I've dined at Anzu, and both times have been wonderful. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The friend I dined with has severe food allergies, and our waiter was very conscientious about it. Both our meals were delicious (black cod & macadamia-crusted salmon), with filling portions. They even give a little cupcake as you're leaving! We went before a show at the Curran. It is just across the street from the Mason/O'Farrell garage, and just a couple of blocks from the theater. Very convenient, and an enjoyable dinner.

It was maybe a bad night to go. There was this big women party, yelling and noisy, the service was so slow, i was expecting freat food and my meat was overcooked and not enough flavor. Maybe it was a bad day to go because I feel that great hotel should have great food. The sushi was good but not espectacular for the high price. Beautiful Restaurant but not one to recommend.

Went for dinner 2 nights in a row. First time was to explore the menu and Sushi. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sushi and the cost was very reasonable. The Miso Soup is great. I had the Titus Roll and Anzu Roll the first night and tried the Dragon Roll the 2nd night. All were great but specifically the titus with the cilantro and lime slice on top was yummmm. I can highly recommend this to sushi lovers, great wine list although a bit pricey the beer Asahi is always a great standby.

We went here at our consiegre request. We were looking for sushi and were disappointed in the number of choices of rolls. They had a limited selection. There were 4 of us and our bill was quite expensive. Our husbands got a four course sampler and their apoetizer fit in a single teaspoon!! Portions were small and expensive. They were very accommodating at changing the rolls and the sushi was delicius. This restaurant would be great where we live but there are so many other restaurants to choose from.

The experience started out on rocky ground with a drink at the bar, but the service in the dining room was much better. I took my best friend for dinner and we really enjoyed ourselves. The food was fresh and well prepared. We noticed other tables getting cupcakes with their bill. We didn't get any, but I think it's because they brought my friend a birthday dessert, which was very tasty.

Early dinner and was informed this was brand new menu. If so, congrats to all as food was excellent. Did the 4 course prix fixe which was great deal. hamachi appetizer, celeryroot and fennel soup set stage well. Had the Salmon encrusted with macadamia nuts, done just right and with wasabi and fruit based gastrique. Small fried egg and balinese rice were very nice contrasts. Enjoyed every bite. All were superbly presented and and very competently served. Particularly enjoyed the taiko drums exhibition that is regular for Fri and Sat early evening. Only lasts few minutes so, while loud, is dramatic demonstration of very enjoyable part of Japanese culture. Would definitely dine there again.

This is NOT your over the top heavy-weight Sunday Brunch. I highly recommend it. To keep the price modest they have made the Mimosas, and other cocktails, an add-on. You can also order off the menu. The food was fresh and delicious. The staff made sure all items were full and ready. The Japanese section was VERY nice, too. Simple and healthy. Wait staff was very pleasant and eager to make us all happy and fed well. We had a group of 8, and they managed the checks/credit cards with pleasant enthusiasm. We will make this our regular, pre-theater matinee brunch.

We found ANZU per a recommendation from SHN's website for restaurants to patronize prior to seeing a show at the Golden Gate theatre. It was not only a perfect location in relation to the theatre, but the food was outstanding. It was American-Japanese fusion type food and pretty unique. We arrived earlier than our reservation and they were able to seat us right away. The food was really tasty and the service was great. We would definitely eat at ANZU again and recommend it.

We started with a mix of appetizers, all beautiful and delicious. Then, for mains, as others have noted, the sea bass is a standout. The salmon and duck were also good. We had family in SF for the first time and this was the perfect place to bring them! The best part of dining with a group is that you can taste many different items, and each of the Rock, Heirloom Tomato Salad, Anzu Roll, Kampachi Carpaccio, Sonoma Duck Breast, Misoyaki Black Cod and the Shiso Crusted Filet Medallions were excellent. Then there was the dessert, equally delicious. The service was great and the courses were very well timed.

We were excited to try their Sunday Buffet. We had a 12:30 reservation, and were told the Buffet closed at 1 p.m. We were not impressed with the Japanese Buffet, no rolls, and nothing we recognized, but stayed with the traditional eggs/bacon/sausage buffet for $24. They came to us at 5 to 1 and announced we needed to get whatever food we wanted, when we had barely eaten anything and ended up with a second plate of mediocre and cold food to eat. Would not go back.

We went there with our family and were 6 people. The service to begin was extremely slow. The person serving us had his mind somewhere else. Also, noticed since we were 6 and gratuity was automatically included, the service got poorer as the night progressed. We witnessed other tables of smaller size getting much better service including our waiter who would skip our table even though we needed stuff. Food on the other hand was very good. The Salmon and Cod in the main course are delicious, so are the various sushi rolls. Finished with desert which was also very good. Recommend going in smaller groups to have a decent experience.

We reserved an early table at ANZU before attending a comedy show in the cabaret on the floor below. Parking was convenient across the street. The food was diverse. We started with appetizers of mussels and ngiri of hamachu (sp?--tuna). Exquisite. My husband had salmon and I had the black cod dish. They were both extraordinary and nicely sized. We came away comfortable, but not stuffed. The drinks were also both delicious. I would recommend ANZU anytime you are in the vicinity of the Nikko. Prices were on the high side for anywhere but San Francisco. Reasonable for the food in this city.
