Diner Reviews
  • "It's very loud and they don't have a liquor license. Food was excellent as was service!"

  • "An extensive choice of Italian cuisine, a good wine list and a nice atmosphere. It is a little noisy because it is crowded but don't worry you can still hold a conversation. I would definitely recommend a visit."

  • "Went out for dinner with my nephew and his wife who were visiting for the week-end. The restaurant was very busy with a waiting line at 8:00 on a Sunday night. The restaurant decor is attractive but the noise level is not - definitely annoying. The service was good and attentive enough considering the crowd. The food was delicious. We've eaten here before and will again."

  • "We had an amazing dinner. Full house on a Saturday night, but they sat us promptly at 7 pm (the time of our reservation). The wine, pasta, and pizza were fantastic. Service was great, too. It was our third time in three summer trips to Boston, and we will be back next year!!!!"

  • "Ate here on a busy and tourist-filled Saturday night. Reservations helped us avoid an hour wait. The brick oven pizza was very good and at less than $20, a pretty good deal. The pizzas are 11" and a good size to share if you pair with an appetizer and dessert. The calamari appetizer was good and comes with a salad on the side. It has a cramped and noisy vibe which was fine for our party of six that included teens."

  • " Food and service were fine, but the noise level was so disturbing we won't go back!"

  • "OK family Italian restaurant and food. Not memorable but busy and bustling place in Boston's authentic North End."

  • "Wow what did we do wrong to deserve this. After about a 10 minute wait we got to meet our waiter. He immediately asked if we were ready to order. So we ordered a salad and a special pizza as appetizers. Caesar salad was to be homemade and if you like Kens bottle dressing it was perfect. The $17.00 truffle pizza was bland and undercooked. I was still looking for our waiter when a waitress came over and asked if we were ready for desert. We were still looking to order dinner. So we finally ordered. I had Pasta bolognese and needed a search party to find the meat. My son had baked fusilli with vegetables and goat cheese which had the texture of oatmeal. 5 days in Boston and by far the worst meal. Back to our hotel for room service."

  • "very good experience at Antico Forno, seats at the bar, good table, good food and a waitress who did not make us feel we needed to rush to turn the table for the next reservation. Only problem is it is very noisy and with the large front window area open it was a bit warm. We all enjoyed our meals and will go back."

  • "Antico forno was recommended by a friend and I made online reservations for 8pm and showed up around 750pm and there was approx 50 people waiting. I was seated at around 810pm so it was well worth taking the extra time to reserve online and they even called to confirm the day before. The food and service was absolutely fantastic and me and my fiancé cannot wait to go back and try another meal on the menu. We go into the north end at least once a month to eat and I'm sure we will be back there next time we go out. Watching all the meals come out of the kitchen wishing you could taste them all. It was a great experience and we cannot wait to go back."

  • "Our party of 5 all enjoyed our entrees. The service was terrible. The busboy was the one that saved the night with his service...as for our server she was non existent. I think it is due to the fact that they add a 20% gratituty for parties of 5 or more. I hope the tips are pooled here & the busboy got his fair share. There are some many places to choose from here I would go somewhere else. As I say, I could get this service at home I don't have to pay for it."

  • "Excellent. Food, service & wine did not disappoint!"

  • "The food was good, not excellent, but it was so loud we could not even talk across the table to each other without yelling. Several tables were so loud we heard everything they were saying. Too many other great restaurants in the North End. We won't go back to this one."

  • "This place was outstanding. The food, the service, everything. It was fairly noisy, but that's because they don't mess around with service! I couldn't recommend it more strongly."

  • "I had to ask for butter 3 times. Was not crowded and it was hard to get a 2nd drink"

  • "Great restaurant. Very friendly with good food. Great bread. Good wine. Good for families."

  • "Listen, the food is good. It really is. It is classic north end Italian. I'd recommend that they take a few tables out and slow down a touch. Feels rushed, sounds like chaos. Get the sense that it is more about quantity than a quality dining experience."

  • "The food was delicious and substantial. We had a reservation and were seated a little early, which we wanted. The service was perfect, efficient and professional, not hurried. This was our second time and we invited family to join us. We were all pleased with our experience. Thanks!"

  • "I've been on a quest to find the best restaurant in North End and now I can't stop. This is now favorite place!"

  • "Nothing good to say about this place. Do not waste your time and money there. There are plenty of better options in that area. Wines were affordable."

  • "A wonderful evening of food and drink is what our party of six experienced at Antico Forno. Couldn't have been better...we'll be back!"

  • "Great litte place in the North End. Very popular. We had a very nice meal and our service was great."

  • "we made a reservation via Open Table only to get seated 40 minutes past the reservation time. Service was prompt but rather curt, especially considering the wait we had. To make matters worse, the noise level made it very difficult to have a conversation across the table. The food was excellent - which is what saved our experience. We've been patronizing this restaurant for a decade and it's our favorite in the North End. But the service and noise we just experienced will make us think twice before we go back."

  • "We love Antico Forno. It serves great Italian food and has a friendly atmosphere that is welcoming to families as well as couples and groups. We usually get a pizza and a pasta dish and share both, because it is so difficult to choose!! Favorite dishes that we have had there include: the sausage and brocolli rabe pizza, spaghetti bolognese, antipasti and - when they have it - the lobster ravioli. Its quite good value with some bottles of wine in the early thirties price range. During the Summer, sitting in the open window is very nice!"

  • "We went here for lunch with a visitor from out of town that wanted to try the north end. It was a crowded restaurant, and the service a little slow but authentic waitress. Table next to us had screaming child with mother just smiling at how cute the kid was. VERY noisy so kind of ruined a nice lunch."

  • "Every time we are in Boston we stop at Antico Forno for dinner, and every time the meal is fantastic."

  • "Antico Forno is one of my favorite North Ends spots. My family and I usually come here for the pizza which is always fabulous. This time, I went with a pasta dish which also was incredible."

  • "Very good food. Not too expensive. Great atmosphere. Easy to get a table."

  • "A Father's Day trip to Antico Forno was as pleasant as fatherhood itself (almost). I have been here several times and the food is always reliable, authentic, and reasonably priced. As an Italian American, it is very nurturing to be able to order anything on the menu without being surprised by some "boutique nuova cucina" version of a dish, served in tiny portions on huge plates. I was comforted by the reliable Bolognese sauce on my fettucinne and family members had chicken parmigiana and some fusilli dish. The fried calamari is among the best around and the arugala pizza at our table was superb. The pizze are offered in a nice variety and are probably the best bargain on the menu. Antico Forno is one of my standby places."

  • "Don't know why they only serve lamb sandwich for lunch but it is superb. Full of lamb! Wife always has the baked eggplant. the restaurant food consistency is always right on. Onlty complaint is the noise level can be unbearable. They need to consider padding the walls or soundproofing."

  • "Although it's a bit off the unusual Hanover Street path this place rocks. I also ate at a highly rated place on Hanover and bar none this was better. Why? 1. Not pretentious 2. An actual good size dining room 3. Their pesce del mare was excellent! 4. Very attentive"

  • "Before our visit to Boston, I wanted to make sure I had a place to eat at Antico Forno. Had been there on a previous visit to the great city , but upon a last return, we could not get a table... so I wanted to make sure to eat at this resto again and introduced a friend who also enjoyed it. The salads we had were beautiful, seasoned just right and fresh. We had a perfectly cooked pizza with the toppings of our choice. The wine complemented our meal. Our was pleasant and attentive. Overall we had a wonderful meal in a great city, who could ask for more."

  • "The food here was delicious. The noise level was horrible. When we were seated my companion was paying the bar tab and I was seated with complete strangers... It was so uncomfortable. Also you can not hear a single word so conversation is impossible."

  • "Found this 1000-point table open for an early dinner and decided to give it a try. At first we were slightly disappointed because it didn't appear as nice inside as it looked in the picture, but it was very clean and the staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Had an excellent wine, an even better dinner (Fettuccine Positano), and the Tiramisu was a perfect way to cap it off!"

  • "Appetizers were great but the dinner was less than inspiring. Ok but nothing special"

  • "If you want old school Italian, look no further. This place was as authentic feeling and tasting as it gets. My one piece of advice: skip the pizza (no very flavorful, had much better) and go straight to the pastas. The tomato sauce was THE BEST I've ever had. I am still dreaming about it. Prices are very reasonable. Portions are huge so bring your appetite. House chianti is just fine at $9/glass. The tiramisu was also great. Packed on a Thurs night but we were still able to get same day reservations. I highly recommend!"

  • "Basics ruled supremely! Less is best than overwhelm w/ too much ingreds... The only thing that needs to go up is just a little bit more on svc,,, the wait on that needs to go down fast!"
