A word from Antica Osteria
Find a little taste of Italy right here in Houston

Partners Ray Memari and Velio DePlano have done it, again. When you step inside their beautiful new Italian restaurant Antica Osteria you will immediately feel all of the worries of living in a big city melt away. The only hustle and bustle you may notice is that of the staff keeping up a quick pace to meet your every need, usually before you even realize you have a need at all.
The decor will sweep you away to a romantic dreamy Tuscan paradise with it's warm aged walls and woodwork. Even sitting next to the street on the beautiful covered patio that runs along the front of the building and links the restaurant and lounge area doesn't let the chaos of Houston interrupt an enchanting candlelight dining experience.

I love Antica. I was very disappointed by my most recent visit there. We made a reservation a week ahead and we had to wait a good 35 - 40 minutes for a table anyway. Then, they sat us and then moved one of us around to the other side of the table because they couldn't get through. They should have reserved us a table with enough space. The waiter raved about the Osso Buco and convinced two people at the table to order it. They came back a few minutes later and they said it has sold out. They were out of the asparagus dish also. Our waiter was awkward. I had my boyfriend's family in town, so I was disappointed about this. I specifically chose Antica because it is such a great spot. Disappointing.

The service was great but the food mediocre - We have been there several times but it seems to be going down hill with regard to the quality of the food. Lots and lots of veal on the menu - a more varied menu would be great. Not sure we will be back.

We always enjoy our visits to Antica. The menu is varied and fresh. The Italian dishes are very good, salads are creative. They will accommodate minor variations on many of the dishes offered. Nightly specials are usually interesting.

My girlfriend and I both had a great time. We both started out with tomato salads toped with parmesan and EVOO which was very light and a good way to start the meal. Personally I liked the salad in combination with the bruschetta that was served. Next we moved onto the carbonara, which was the best I have had. The sauce was homemade with only a few ingredients and the pancetta was nice. We didn't go for any wine or dessert but overall the food was great. The waiter was a tad bit "strange" in my opinion but I can't exactly describe what it was about him, my girlfriend mentioned him as well after we arrived home. The crowd was a tad bit old also, the average age in the place must have been about 50. regardless of the negatives, a great time.

food was okay, not special. service was inattentive. never checked whether we were pleased. while it is nice not to be rushed, it is not okay to be ignored, not to be asked whether we were ready for dessert. mentioned when we arrived, that we were celebrating a birthday, but staff did not follow up. (usually a restaurant will put a candle in dessert or some such gesture). seemed as tho prices were jacked up for the special $35 restaurant week menu. should have stuck to the regular dinner menu. big decline since we were at restaurant over ten years agol

We were seated on the first floor and it was incredibly loud. It was noisy to the point that people at the same table couldn't hear each other. The food was all right (chicken overcooked), but what we thought would be an enjoyable dining experience to celebrate a special occasion turned out to be a competition to see which table could laugh and yell the loudest around us. It ruined the evening and was especially upsetting as we have had wonderful experiences before seated on the second floor. If you're paying that much for dinner, the ambiance should be more quiet fine dining than Chuck E. Cheese.

My husband and I were visiting Houston and saw on Open Table that this restaurant was participating in Houston Restaurant Week. We thought we'd try it. From the wine to the dessert, everything we tasted was wonderful! We had two salads on the Specials blackboard the waiter brought to the table - a smoked salmon appetizer and a Roma tomato salad. Both were excellent! I ordered spaghetti Bolognese; it was the best I've ever tasted. My husband had the veal piccata and felt the same way. The server was prompt and friendly as well. We WILL return. It was a delightful evening!

This restaurant exceeded our expectations. We went twice during Houston REstaurant Month and we might sneak in another visit before SEpt. Even without the special pricing, this is good value for the quality of the food. The atmosphere is warm and pleasant...not over the top at all, very pleasant. The food was terrific. They have a duck preparation which is outstanding...and I don't like duck, in general. The vegetables were well prepared and flavorful. If there was a weakness...and there was...it was the dessert course. You also pretty much have to use valet parking...which is too bad. We will return soon!!

Although located in the bustling city, this place is a cozy restaurant that could be in an Italian village. The atmosphere was relaxed and quiet enough for good conversation. The service was excellent, but not rushed. We had the lamb and the osso bucco which were tender and delicious. We did get a bottle of wine, but were disappointed there was no selection of wines by the glass. We plan to return in cooler weather when we can dine outside.

We went to celebrate Restaurant Weeks and were very surprised to see everything on the menue was available for the fixed price! The food was excellent and the service outstanding. This would be a great choice anytime but it really is compelling given the Food Bank contribution is a part of the dining experience. No wonder this restaurant has been around so long. BRAVO!!

Amazing little restaurant. Quaint with great food and service. We arrived early to enjoy a drink at the bar and were pleasantly surprised by the intimate surroundings. Our bartender suggested a cocktail – and proceeded to artfully concoct a delicious blend of fresh ingredients. When we were seated for dinner, we were again pleasantly surprised by the space, it's quaintness, and by the wonderfully high level of service. The suggestions were spot-on. The food was fantastic. The service was superb. We stumbled onto the restaurant, searching for a authentic Italian food in a nice, local atmosphere – and we were very pleased with the result. Highly recommended.

My wife and I do a date night about twice per month. We take turns picking the spot. I chose Antica Osteria as a surprise to her, she only knew the general area that we were heading to. After an early evening of wine shopping to stock our cabinet we thoroughly enjoyed an evening at Antica Osteria. She started with a salad and I started with prosciutto wrapped scallops. We both had rainbow trout as our main course. Service was great, table was ready at exactly our reservation time, and we had a great evening. We have already recommended to family and friends, and we will definitely return.

After having driven by this place for years, I actually remembered to make reservations and go! The food was great and I'm pretty picky when it comes to Italian. Our server was very attentive yet we didn't feel hovered upon. We went on a Saturday night at 7:30 and it was a full house. I felt that the volume was appropriate and I could hear my guest and didn't notice surrounding table conversations. The only complaint I have is during the wait for our table. We were told to go to the bar to which was fine. Unfortunately there didn't seem to be a bartender only an occasional server picking up drinks for their tables. We were never asked if we'd like a drink. I had two with my dinner so it all worked out and wouldn't hinder me from returning.

Very few wines by the glass (2 reds, 2 whites) & the reds were not Italian wines (was expecting a Chianti, Sangiovese or Super Tuscan). The waiter was pretentious and behaved as though the evening was "about him". My salad (Campagnola) was overdressed and not overly tasty or interesting (mostly oil and greens). The gnocchi pomodori was very good and well priced. Would have preferred it with a meat sauce. Spumoni ice cream was excellent but a little overpriced at $8. The room that you first enter into had tables that were very close together & room was quite noisy. The next room where I was seated had great ambience & was less noisy BUT it was an absolute sauna. Don't know whether air conditioning wasn't on or it just wasn't working.
