A word from Antica Osteria
Find a little taste of Italy right here in Houston

Partners Ray Memari and Velio DePlano have done it, again. When you step inside their beautiful new Italian restaurant Antica Osteria you will immediately feel all of the worries of living in a big city melt away. The only hustle and bustle you may notice is that of the staff keeping up a quick pace to meet your every need, usually before you even realize you have a need at all.
The decor will sweep you away to a romantic dreamy Tuscan paradise with it's warm aged walls and woodwork. Even sitting next to the street on the beautiful covered patio that runs along the front of the building and links the restaurant and lounge area doesn't let the chaos of Houston interrupt an enchanting candlelight dining experience.

  • "My husband and I were visiting Houston and saw on Open Table that this restaurant was participating in Houston Restaurant Week. We thought we'd try it. From the wine to the dessert, everything we tasted was wonderful! We had two salads on the Specials blackboard the waiter brought to the table - a smoked salmon appetizer and a Roma tomato salad. Both were excellent! I ordered spaghetti Bolognese; it was the best I've ever tasted. My husband had the veal piccata and felt the same way. The server was prompt and friendly as well. We WILL return. It was a delightful evening!"

  • "This restaurant exceeded our expectations. We went twice during Houston REstaurant Month and we might sneak in another visit before SEpt. Even without the special pricing, this is good value for the quality of the food. The atmosphere is warm and pleasant...not over the top at all, very pleasant. The food was terrific. They have a duck preparation which is outstanding...and I don't like duck, in general. The vegetables were well prepared and flavorful. If there was a weakness...and there was...it was the dessert course. You also pretty much have to use valet parking...which is too bad. We will return soon!!"

  • "Although located in the bustling city, this place is a cozy restaurant that could be in an Italian village. The atmosphere was relaxed and quiet enough for good conversation. The service was excellent, but not rushed. We had the lamb and the osso bucco which were tender and delicious. We did get a bottle of wine, but were disappointed there was no selection of wines by the glass. We plan to return in cooler weather when we can dine outside."

  • "I had to be in Houston for medical reasons and my husband found this gem while looking at Open Table. It is such a find. Good food, "neighborhoody", and reasonably priced. I will be in Houston a lot over the next year and this will be our go to place."

  • "The menu is straight forward and simple. The food was excellent and I loved the homemade pasta. The service was great and at the right pace, no rushing us out but very attentive. The wine was wonderful too and the complementary tastes to see which one was what we liked was nice too. I would definitely return and would highly recommend this place to anyone."

  • "We went to celebrate Restaurant Weeks and were very surprised to see everything on the menue was available for the fixed price! The food was excellent and the service outstanding. This would be a great choice anytime but it really is compelling given the Food Bank contribution is a part of the dining experience. No wonder this restaurant has been around so long. BRAVO!!"

  • "My husband and I were looking for a new Italian restaurant and decided to try "the place across from Kay's". We were both impressed with our dishes and the service was excellent. We made a reservation for restaurant week while before we left."

  • "First time there...won't be the last. I had a house salad and halibut. My husband had a house salad and veal parmesan. The fish dish was great though a really large portion. My husband enjoyed his as well. He ended up eating my leftover halibut. Our waiter was highly entertaining."

  • "Amazing little restaurant. Quaint with great food and service. We arrived early to enjoy a drink at the bar and were pleasantly surprised by the intimate surroundings. Our bartender suggested a cocktail – and proceeded to artfully concoct a delicious blend of fresh ingredients. When we were seated for dinner, we were again pleasantly surprised by the space, it's quaintness, and by the wonderfully high level of service. The suggestions were spot-on. The food was fantastic. The service was superb. We stumbled onto the restaurant, searching for a authentic Italian food in a nice, local atmosphere – and we were very pleased with the result. Highly recommended."

  • "My wife and I do a date night about twice per month. We take turns picking the spot. I chose Antica Osteria as a surprise to her, she only knew the general area that we were heading to. After an early evening of wine shopping to stock our cabinet we thoroughly enjoyed an evening at Antica Osteria. She started with a salad and I started with prosciutto wrapped scallops. We both had rainbow trout as our main course. Service was great, table was ready at exactly our reservation time, and we had a great evening. We have already recommended to family and friends, and we will definitely return."

  • "After having driven by this place for years, I actually remembered to make reservations and go! The food was great and I'm pretty picky when it comes to Italian. Our server was very attentive yet we didn't feel hovered upon. We went on a Saturday night at 7:30 and it was a full house. I felt that the volume was appropriate and I could hear my guest and didn't notice surrounding table conversations. The only complaint I have is during the wait for our table. We were told to go to the bar to which was fine. Unfortunately there didn't seem to be a bartender only an occasional server picking up drinks for their tables. We were never asked if we'd like a drink. I had two with my dinner so it all worked out and wouldn't hinder me from returning."

  • "My Wife and I were in town for a consult at the medical center and had no idea what restaurants were good in Houston. We looked on Open Table and found this place. It has great food and service and has a very authentic Italian feel. We will be back."

  • "Very few wines by the glass (2 reds, 2 whites) & the reds were not Italian wines (was expecting a Chianti, Sangiovese or Super Tuscan). The waiter was pretentious and behaved as though the evening was "about him". My salad (Campagnola) was overdressed and not overly tasty or interesting (mostly oil and greens). The gnocchi pomodori was very good and well priced. Would have preferred it with a meat sauce. Spumoni ice cream was excellent but a little overpriced at $8. The room that you first enter into had tables that were very close together & room was quite noisy. The next room where I was seated had great ambience & was less noisy BUT it was an absolute sauna. Don't know whether air conditioning wasn't on or it just wasn't working."

  • "Visited for the second time, and again great food and wine. Pleasant atmosphere and overall great service. Limited menu allows all items to be fresh and have a nice "special list" Lived in Florence for 2 years and this is as close to Italian food as you can get in Houston"

  • "The food was outstanding. The space is well appointed and intimate. The service was professional and very nice. It seemed like a neighborhood restaurant where many local families of all generations come to dine as well as couples. If you love Italian, as I do, then you must not forget to try it."

  • "This is our 3rd or 4th visit. We are always a group of 5 and always request the same table and waiter, if available. To a person, we have all found the food wonderful and have difficulty choosing between entrees."

  • "I've been meaning to try this restaurant recommended by 2 others. The setting is quite cute, in a small old house, giving it a warm feel. I was greeted nicely, which seems to be rare these days. Actually, I was very pleased with the service in general. The waiter was knowledgeable and I admired his thick accent. My pasta (forget the name but first one listed on the menu) was very good. My guest's chicken parmesan left much to be desired. I did not taste it but he was disappointed in taste and preparation. The tiramisu was not that good, it was not moist."

  • "Our family have dined at this restaurant numerous times, it has becoming one of our favorite Italian restaurant. Antica offers a great selection, I've tried many things on the menu, never disappointed. Interestingly enough, the steaks are one of my favorite there, I know, not really Italian, they are better than most of the fine steak restaurants that I've eaten."

  • "If you are looking for a quiet romantic place, Antica Osteria is it. It has charm, good service that doesn't rush you through the evening and delightful food. It's a great place for conversation since the noose level is low. The wine list is minimal but it works."

  • "The food was good, but our waiter was terrible. My husband requested that his dish be prepared without cheese due to a food allergy. The waiter clarified "You want EXTRA cheese". My husband repeated that he wanted NO CHEESE. When the dish came out, it was prepared with extra cheese. My husband did not eat his dish and was frustrated enough with that waiter that he did not want to order something else. We will not be returning to Antica Osteria for a long while."

  • "We brought our parents, daughter and her husband to celebrate her graduation from Medical School. We had reservations, were seated immediately and ordered drinks. We did not get menus in a timely manner, so we flagged a waiter and asked for them. From than moment on, service was exemplary, food was delicious and we would recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was fabulous."

  • "Me and a girlfriend came here to have our weekly girls dinner. We were very happy with our meal but a bit taken back by our server. Our server was great with service, but I could sense he had an attitude. It felt like he didnt want to be there. Since I am not a big drinker AT ALL, I asked to order from the "by the glass" menu. So, of course, the servers attitude went from"I dont want to be here" to "these girls dont have enough money to buy a bottle, so I am gonna have a 'tude since I am assuming my tip will be lousy". Yep that is how he made me feel. I left they guy about 19-20% tip anyway. I guess I'm just nice. The food was good and the restaurant is beautiful and cozy. I will come back and ask for a different server."

  • "Very nice restaurant. Tables a bit close and wines by the glass are limited, but overall the food and service are well above average and prices are reasonable. "
