Diner Reviews
  • "A beautiful setting for a leisurely summer lunch, but this restaurant is in need of refurbishment. The service was very pleasant, but the waitress was not particularly familiar with the menu or the wine list . The food was decent, though nothing special for the prices charged. Overall, I'd have today that this place has seen better days. Too bad...)"

  • "Starched and bleached uniforms still there but nobody is teaching the staff how to serve. Our waitress brought a dish in each hand while we were still eating the previous course, and stood there waiting for us to pick up our own plates and move them aside so she could put the next course down. We had to remind her to bring the asparagus, then she disappeared after she brought it -- leaving the sauce in a bowl with no spoon. Nobody noticed my frantic gestures for several minutes. A fellow in a black uniform with a bow tie showed up while we were half way through and interrupted our quiet conversation with a cheerful "Still working on that?" Then some dishes from the first course stayed on the table thru the whole meal."

  • "This restaurant is known for its quiet ambiance and spectacular ocean views and in this respect it does not disappoint. Food quality however is mediocre. My sole was sauteed too long and rice was simple to the point of mundane. Popovers, a perennial favorite, are always a treat. But you are clearing paying for their site location, not for their dedication to their cuisine."

  • "Was excited to try this restaurant, but was disappointed in the end. Clams were delicious, but my steak was so over cooked it was like eating a puck. Should have sent it back, but we didn't have the time to wait. I ordered it medium rare, which is probably the most common cook, I am so surprised they screwed it up. No flavor either, it was my first time using steak sauce ever! Oh well. Prices are pretty exorbitant, I could get much better for the same price at any of the fine dining steak houses of Boston. "

  • "Everything I anticipated of Anthony's came true with my visit. You see every year we would go to Anthony's Pier 4 in Boston since we got married in 1964 . The service and food is excellent "

  • "We have been frequenting this establishment for some time. The ocean view is great for just gazing. Service and the food are always good. Easter Sunday is always special to us and this dining experience was terrific. The table we were given was ocean view. Our seasoned waiter was very attentive. The food was very good. My fiancee had the Ham and I ordered the Lamb. Topped it off with coffee and apple pie a la mode. "

  • "The view from the dinning room is very special as it looks back at Boston from the North. Ocean water laps at your feet as you enjoy great food and you can carry on good conversation with the people that your are dinning with for a change."

  • "We celebrated my mother's 89th birthday at Anthony's Pier 4. The staff was prepared for all seven of us when we arrived. They gave us a great table with a perfect view. Both the waiter & the maitre de were exceptionally attentive to our party. Also, the food was very good. It was fresh, tasty & served hot (not always the case with a large party). We all plan to return to Anthony's Pier 4 in the near future."

  • "Have eaten at this restaurant for years, but with the closing of Pier 4 in Boston, it has replaced that restaurant for special occasions. I would recommend this place for seafood and meat lovers, alike, although I usually eat their famous baked, stuffed shrimp and grilled scallops. The extras make the meal special, such as marinated mushrooms and popovers, which they serve at no extra charge at every table. All in all a great food and ambiance experience! Highly recommend!"

  • "The restaurant has a amazing scenic view, especially during sunset. The bouillabaisse marseille dish was very tasteful. I recommend this restaurants for romantic nights and also for a special occasion. The service from their staff is very effective, in the way all your inquiries are handled promptly."

  • "The food & service was very good as usual. The only aggravation we suffered was the dinner pricing. It was their standard dinner menu that they increased 75% for everyone's celebration night, a real shame for a very nice restaurant. However, we will be back...forgiveness was one of our New Year's resolutions. Bob"

  • "We spent another wonderful holiday evening at Anthony's Pier 4 Café. Beautiful scenery and very accommodating staff made our dining experience very rewarding. The Lobster with Irish Wiskey Cream Sauce was to die for. The Lobster Turnover was very nice but if they ever bring back the "Money Bag" appetizer you have to try it."

  • "Anthony's in Swampscott has always been one of our favorites and we have never been disappointed. The food has always been outstanding and they have a great wine list. You are treated like you are special from the moment you walk in. And the convenience of parking is a hugh asset. The waitress we had was outstanding! You do not feel rushed at all - and needless to say the popovers are to die for!"

  • "This is a bit of a throw-back with a beautiful setting and good -- not great -- food. Very quiet if you want conversation. And comfortable for older people."

  • "My family has so much personal history at Anthony's - my parents went to all his restaurants often, my wife and I had my our first date there, my grad school graduation party was there. But they haven't changed with the times and are but a shell of what they once were. The need to hire a good executive CHEF to update the menu and the recipes to make them competitive in today's market and appealing to modern tastes. As it stands, the food is just really bad and really boring."

  • "Great place with amazing water views. The chowder was just ok but the problem was that our server didn't know the menu well. She couldn't describe the sauces to top the fish, and wasn't sure what the side dishes were. The food was good, but not for the price."

  • "Anthony's is renowned Boston and we were meeting friends on the North Shore so decided to try their location in Seampscott. Maybe for the location, and service was fine, but food (what we mainly go to a restaurant for), was mediocre at best. Stuffed shrimp were tough (I don't think I ever had a tough shrimp before), lobster ravioli were tastelesswith pasta at must have been on the shelf for a while, striped bass was cooked nicely but very chewy. To give credit, their chocolate dessert (don't remember what they called it) was excellent. View is, of course, great in the daylight."

  • "It was fun to go back to the restaurant that hosted our wedding reception and find that it was still a great place to eat. Nice renovations and that great view to downtown Boston make this a place to go if you're in the area. The service is great and definitely makes for a romantic atmosphere...lots of time to talk and no one to bother you. We will definitely return."

  • "We had a particular reason to celebrate the evening, and we couldn't have made a better choice. It was a perfect evening, spectacular view, superb service and attentiveness to patrons. It says on open table that the cost is $31-$50. but that is untrue. The cost of dinners are very fairly priced, and for the money, the experience is more than well worth it. My husband had the fried clam plate (which was very generous), and I had the halibut...cooked to perfection! A great celebration and a great place to go for an evening out."

  • "Unfortunately, the food was not even mediocre that night. Badly prepared and not their usual quality on the sea food. We dined on the deck to eat and enjoyed a marvelous view, so ambiance was fine. When someone in our party went in to speak to a manager, he found there wasn't one! We are not likely to return soon."

  • "Great food and service. The baked stuffed lobster is phenomenal and one of their specialties. The stuffing is filled with tons of large pieces of lobster. We can't wait to have it again. The salmon is great too."

  • "I love this restaurant. The food is consistently good. The wait staff friendly enough but not bothersome. The ocean view is wonderful and if you catch a sunset there is nothing more romantic. Wether in a group of 12 or 4 or just the two of us we have always had a very good experience. I choose this restaurant for my birthday always!"
