Had the lobster with it but did not realize the lobster was going to be breaded and fried. Have been watching every calorie for 85 days and I would not have ordered it had I known it was fried. Granddaughters were with me and they also thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Calamarie was good. Overall was very pleased but would have made a change in order.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversaryFood, service, and special attention was outstanding. We had she-crab soup, crispy flounder and key lime pie and all were delicious. Service was just right - attentive but not overbearing. The ambience was also great; white table cloths, classy but not ostentatious. We'd recommend Anson to others and would return if we return to Charleston.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAMAZING!I loved everything about this restaurant. Can't find anything like that up north, nor at many southern restaurants and Anson's is done just right. We haven't been to Charleston for several years and we liked the way the restaurant has updated it's look and feel. Nice to go somewhere that's elegant, lively but not too noisy, nor too fancy.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good, menu wasFood was very good, menu was interesting. Specials available. Our food -- upscale Southern -- was excellent, and the service was friendly and efficient.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMReal professionalsWhile visiting on a spur of the moment trip to Charleston we were lucky to get a reservation anywhere. The Jasmine House recommended Ansons and we were able to get in on a very busy Friday night. We were seated on time at a romantic table for 2; our server, Adam, was excellent giving us time to flow through our dinner without being pushed. During dinner a huge thunderstorm hit and all the guests were stuck inside until it passed; we were taken care of quickly by James as we all flooded his bar area as the next seating of customers were waiting for tables but no one was leaving. All of the staff was really helping out to take care of the "log jam" that lasted at least an hour...Great job to all and their efforts; it could have been a mess.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMT,his was excellent. It hadT,his was excellent. It had been recommended by a friend and lived up to all expectations.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGo for dinner, stay for banana pie! This was our second dining experience at Anson. We were seated on the second floor which was quieter than the first floor. We started with the remarkable Pimento Cheese appetizer, a must! The She Crab Soup was outstanding and among the very best we had in Charleston. I ordered the crispy flounder and it was absolutely amazing. I would return just for this entree! But the topper of dinner was the Banana Pie for dessert.
The cream was light and fresher than fresh. It was topped with crunchy bruleed banana slices. Our waiter was attentive, informed, and made our dining experience most pleasant. If you are in Charleston, dining at Anson should be at the top of your list!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMost tender and lightly friedMost tender and lightly fried calimari we've ever had. We cutour filet mignon with a fork. Whole fried flounder is delicious. Anson is at the top of its game. Also saw the manager bringing food to tables all evening.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall a good experience.Overall a good experience. The fried okra was delicious and plentiful for an appetizer.
The she crab soup came in a small cup but rightfully so as it was creamy and rich. Definitely a must have.
The crispy flounder came "a la carte" as the whole fish (minus the head). It came with a slightly sweet sauce that paired well with the flounder. This was a hefty portion of delicious fish.
The creme brulee was excellent and well-portioned (we split between 2 people).
Service was good with our server being both quick and knowledgeable. We are planning to return on future trips to Charleston.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were accomodated with seatingWe were accomodated with seating upstairs even though most seating was downstairs when we arrived. This gave us an intimate feel with the ability to talk without shouting as we have found true in a number of favorite restaurants. It has the true Charleston feel and menu. The food is wonderful and service always good. I take friends and clients there because I know I can count on the experience.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent meal.Mu husband and I chose this restaurant for a last minute date option, and overall we were very pleased with our choice. The cocktails were excellent as was the wine list. My husband was in the mood for steak and ordered the ribeye which was cooked perfectly. I ordered the crispy flounder, the house specialty. The glaze on the flounder was excellent. The restaurant was small and at times seemed loud, likley due to the large table behind us. The wait staff was very attentive, and the manager walked by several times to check on us. Overall, I highly recommend Anson, especially for those who enjoy restaurants like High Cotton, Husk, SNOB, Poogan's.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely fabulous experience!!!Absolutely fabulous experience!!! My waiter, Scott, was perfect and had just the right suggestions!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWhile the food we orderedWhile the food we ordered was quite good, I was disappointed with selections for those of use wishing to limit saturated fats and chlorestorol. The server was knowledgeable and attentive, and the noise level was OK, allowing us to visit with our friends.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMI had never been to AnsonI had never been to Anson and went for Easter Brunch. The oyster stew was excellent and the decor where we sat upstairs was classically beautiful. My companion has shrimp and grits and loved it. We plan to go back.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEaster Brunch at Anson'sThis was our 2nd time dining at Anson's and it was an Easter brunch. The food preparation and presentation was excellent - the only negative was that some of us have a "brunchier" paradigm, i.e. prefer breakfast oriented fare and the menu was much more lunch/dinner oriented. The staff was accommodating when I needed to change the size of our party and our waiter, Jackson, was attentive and friendly but not intrusive - desirable qualities in any dining experience. Don't miss the Almond Basket dessert!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch was AWESOME!Anson's is one of our favorite "local" places to go. We live in Charleston and love to go there for special ocassions. The service is ALWAYS top-notch and the food is ALWAYS delicious. This is the first time we've been there for "brunch" (although it was Easter) but were not disappointed. They are a GREAT place to have a GREAT lunch, brunch of dinner!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch entree portions wereBrunch entree portions were small, but left room for the generous and delisoous deserts.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall, very enjoyable, serviceOverall, very enjoyable, service execellent, and would highly recommend.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was an energetic nightIt was an energetic night at Anson. We started with a drink at the bar waiting for the rest of our party, and the bartender was quite helpful and friendly. Once seated at a very comfortable booth table, our party of five enjoyed a fantastic meal served very efficiently and profesionally by our waiter Roscoe. Highly recommended.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food & excellent tastingGreat food & excellent tasting grits. Service was spot on and the evening was very enjoyable. Caeser salad and beet salad were wonderful. Desserts were not as good as good as I would have expected. It was pretty noisy, but we didn't have to shout. Would like to have seen a more inexpensive chardonnay on the wine list.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first visit to Anson andOur first visit to Anson and we will definitely go back. We had been to the Pink House in Savannah previously and didn't realize it was under the same ownership until after we had already made the reservations. Atmosphere at Anson's is much better although we also liked the Pink House. Meal was great. All of us ordered something different from the menu and everything was perfect.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
