Diner Reviews
  • "We had a wonderful 5-person birthday dinner. The service was amazing as was every bite of food. No one ordered the same thing, so we got to taste almost the entire menu. The only disappointment was that we had to leave so hastily to complete the next part of our birthday celebration, but we will definitely be back. If there has to be one demerit, I would not give it to the food or service, but perhaps the decor. I know they had to update things recently because of a fire, but the room still feels a little "old.""

  • "Went back after our first visit years ago and the resturant and food are even better. We were so impressed, again, with the service and the tasting menu. This place is a must visit - don't miss tasting menu!"

  • "Our meal was really fantastic. The sashimi appetizer was just so wonderfully flavored. As was the celery soup. We had the rabbit and pork entrees. just perfectly balanced dishes. we will be coming back."

  • "menu very limited and quite disappointing. considering that we like all kinds of food the list of entrees very limited and not very raetive"

  • "One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Be sure and have the dumpling - outstanding!"

  • "I hate criticizing this place because I've had some lovely times and food here in the past and I really respect the chef but last night's meal was, sorry to say, boring. The main ingredients in my celery root and oyster soup didn't marry, and there was no flavor at all in the Rainbow trout with artichoke main course. The sauce was mere water, the fish overcooked, and the baby artichokes--could they have come from a can? First time in life I felt I had to salt a piece of fish. Oh, my heart breaks. Anita, where were you? Serves me right for not ordering the foie gras dumplings like everybody else."

  • "I was very impressed by the food - less so by the service, from the front to the table"

  • "For me, the surprise was that the Asian touches were very subtle. For instance: Sable marinated (?) in miso. ever so slightly sweet. A heavenly , cool lime dessert."

  • "I had wanted to eat here for a long time and finally went with a friend on my birthday! It was the perfect place to celebrate it. The menu was an eclectic mix of seafood and meat and also some vegetarian dishes. We split three appetizers and had a main fish course each. Our meal was superb and the staff excellent. Thank you Annisa!"

  • "We were recommended to this restaurant and told it was one of the best in NYC. While the food was good, it was hardly as good as it was portrayed. The menu was very limited and the dishes did not stand out. On top of that, the prices were very high. Clearly not worth it. I don't mind paying top prices for excellent cuisine, but this was not it. Also the waiter had an attitude that other members of my party noticed. One thing that did stand out was the desert of benes. Other than that it is an overpriced mediocre restaurant."

  • "The food was very underwhelming. There are too many other great options in the west village to go to. Also, service was not great. We did the tasting menu and it was not worth the money. We walked away very disappointed."

  • "Dinner was good but do not miss the desserts-very innovative. The chocolate sampler was our choice YUM"

  • "A find. Very small and intimate incredible service. couldn't have been better. We had the mackerel and the sable. Skip the sable it was good but can't compare to the mackerel its not to be missed."

  • "Very nice decor and excellent service. Food was excellent too, if a little bland. We expected more creativity given the hype and reviews, but enjoyed the experience."

  • "After umpteen phone calls from restaurant and to the restaurant our tables were not ready when we arrived and the hostess's attitude was quite unpleasant. Given that we were a table of six and a table of four and nine oclock it was disconcering. The food was delicious and the room serene. The restaurant would be better served to have a welcoming person greet you."

  • "The term amazing gets thrown around a lot, but Chef Anita Lo's creations at Annisa we're absolutely incredible. My date and I had the 5 course tasting menu, and every course hightened to new and amazing levels. Annisa is a foodie's paradise, and I cannot recommend it more highly."

  • "Anissa was an extraordinary dinning experience. We had the 5 course tasting menu. Each course was delicious in its own right but they also flowed and progressed into a lovely and satisfying meal. Service was outstanding!"

  • "Annisa is my favorite restaurant in NYC, bar none. Try the steak tartare with bulgur and sesame tofu, the rabbit with pistachio, and the poppyseed bread pudding with lemon curd. It is...the best."

  • "The food was imaginatively cooked and beautifully presented. Absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is perfect--quiet enough to talk without feeling like a library. I highly recommend a visit here."

  • "We had a flawless experience dining at Annisa the other night. From the bar service, while we were waiting for the fourth member of our party to arrive, to the dinner and through dessert and the bill, I can't think of anything that the restaurant should have done differently to make our experience better. The food was intelligently thought through, subtle but powerful in execution, and elegantly presented. Do not miss the beignets! I can't recommend this restaurant too highly."

  • "Great food, attentive but not cloying service, a grown-up restaurant. This was our second visit. We had had the 5 course tasting menu the first time and were debating whether to have it on our second visit. We asked our server if the courses would be different because we had just been there two weeks before. Turns out they keep a record of what you had so you are not served the same dishes again unless you specifically ask for them. So that each dining experience will be unique. We will definitely be back."

  • "I can only exclaim about the fabulous food, the wonderful service and the subtle yet constant attention from the staff we received at a recent dinner at Annisa. I would strongly recommend Annisa to anyone wanting an elegant and unique experience in dining."

  • "My husband and I hadn't been out on the town in a few months so we were looking for something special. We'd both been wanting to go to Annisa for years but for some reason hadn't made it there. Well, we finally made it and it excelled. The food was exceptional, the wine list was clean and organized and we had a delicious Pinot Noir for $58. I asked for an after dinner cocktail and told them the specs and they delivered. Many restaurants won't measure out an unfamiliar cocktail, choosing to eyeball it, usually doesn't come out so well. The service and ambiance were quiet and seamless. It was a pleasure to dine at Annisa and I highly recommend it."

  • "We went to Annisa because of the cook's reputation, its Asian fusion style cooking and stellar record. We were not disappointed in any dish of our 5 course tasting menu. The portions were just right -- not to small and not to large. Three days later what most vividly sticks in my mind is the seared foie gras perched on a soupy dumpling and the crispy-topped bread pudding with lemon curb. The wine recommendations were also spot on with the food.. ."

  • "I was searching for a "special" restaurant to which to take my partner to celebrate his 50th birthday here in New York City and thought of Annisa, which recently received a 3 star review in the New York Times and is within 8 blocks of our home. It turned out to be a perfect evening, from start to finish. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, without being intrusive; each of the dishes in the 5 plate tasting menu was inspired and delicious; the atmosphere was calm and quiet, and our 2 person banquet seats were wonderfully nearly "private". It was a perfect birthday dinner that will remain in our memories for a very long time. Rarely have we had such a consistently satisfying dining experience. What a birthday!"

  • "Everything here is on point: the food, service, and ambiance. I felt totally comfortable in the space and everything I ate and drank was outstanding. I never felt pressured to order extra or to leave when I was done with desert. Highly recommended !"

  • "Came here on a date and noticed it was mostly 2 - 4 tops. Ordered the 5 course tasting menu with wine paring. Notable dishes were the soup dumpling and the black sea bass sashimi. Pork was great as well, especially paired with black riesling. Our server was gracious and knowledgeable about the food and wine. I will definitely be back for its entrees. Thank you for a delightful evening."

  • "Started off the meal with the velveteen cocktail, which delightfully exceeded expectations. Then did the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings, which took decision making anxiety out of the meal and let my wife and I just enjoy the food. Definitely pricy, but a fantastic experience for a special occasion. Service was great, maybe easier since we sat for the early seating."

  • "I just dined at Annisa for the first time. I decided upon 2 entrees, a beautifully moist and tender rabbit loin stuffed with pistachios followed by a perfectly flaky and rich pot pie of veal, sweetbreads and mushrooms on the plate with a veal tongue salad on a potato pancake. Each bite exactly right. One of my companions chose a uniquely prepared salad of grilled hearts of palm, and the other tasty , tender grilled(BBQ) octopus. Their entrees of trout and especially the pork loin with a smoked avocado puree were both unusual and beautifully done. Our waitress was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all of the menu items and very helpful in choosing. We will return!"

  • "We came to try Anissa based on a NYT review. We loved the meal. So creative and delicious. We made the effort to come from SF and were rewarded. The Bread Pudding dessert is sensational."

  • "I haven't been to Annisa in awhile and it was my mistake. It is now on my short list. Everything was better than anticipated and our sights were pretty high given the recent NYT review. The room is warm and inviting. Our server was engaging and funny - in a good way. The wine list is more reasonable than most and the sommeliere is knowledgeable and was particularly helpful. We can't wait to go back."

  • "We enjoyed our meal at Annisa after reading the NYT review. The best part was the ambiance - perfect lighting and good energy but not noisy. Other Manhattan restaurants should take note. The food was fine, we had BBQ scallops and sashimi to start, pork chops and chicken plus a dessert. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful and the drink at the bar was also original and quite good. Overall glad we went, but more so for the overall experience than simply the food."

  • "We had the 7 course tasting menu. Food was well prepared and nicely plated. Some in our party felt that the portions could have been a bit larger, but overall, we had a lovely dining experience."
