surprised by sluggish service. seemed like staff was overburdened. real delays placing wine orders and then getting delivery. this was not the case when i visited 2 weeks earlier. must have been an off night or maybe there was a staffing shortage that night. food is particularly special. not a restaurant to miss.

Returned after a gap of 3 years for our anniversary meal. Had chanced upon Annisa late at night and had been entranced by the food and friendliness. Visually nothing had altered, but attitude has moved on from how can we help to "this is what the chef decides" in truth a bit up itself. Taster menu had to be for 2 for no obvious reason than maybe the cheque! My partner is veggie with distinct preferences and therefor a tasting menu of the chef's choice was going to be difficult. So it proved to be. I thought my meal was extremely good with quality cooking and ingredients. Interesting and subtle. My partner loved her celeriac based dish but the rest passed her by! If she could have chosen then our meal would have been truly memorable for all the right reasons, as it was she felt " if only". The only wrong note in my view was the choice of desert, both being "pudding". I had the variant on bread and butter pudding which was fab, the sticky date pudding was good too but spoilt with the over enthusiastic use of salt in/on the marscaponi to the extent that the salinity was overriding. Our meal would have been perfection if we could have been a la carte for one and Tasting for the other. The Chablis was also excellent and the server helpful and knowledgable.

We were a table of six for a friend's special birthday. I had been there twice before and left saying "wow." The atmosphere was great, and our waiter was outstanding (the greeter/coatperson could use training on how to be welcoming). The food was certainly good but not quite what it was on our last two visits. Everyone liked the food but there was no "wow." Several of us had the signature dishes -- foie gras with soup dumplings, and sablefish with tofu. All good, but not great. The lemon bread pudding was very good; the chocolate desserts were ordinary (exception: the little creme de cacao dessert drink, which was very good). The rolls were also ordinary. I am very fond of this restaurant, so I hope this evening was not typical.

Friendly, courteous and professional staff. The food is top notch. I started with the gnocco which paled only slightly to my wife's marvelous steak tartare. We both had the venison for our entree, and we were happy we didn't have to share as it was divine.

Although the main starter dish of dumplings was great and outstanding. Overall disappointing service & food it was downhill after the starter. Fish overcooked for somewhere we had looked forward to.It seemed the front of the house staff wanted to go home and everyone was burnt out. Too bad as we wanted this to be a nice dinner as we had heard great things about the place and the chef. Disappointing.

The room is simple and elegant, the sound level subdued, and the service professional. Let's though focus on the wonderful, multilayered and nuanced food. My guest and I shared 3 first courses. The stand out was grilled fresh hearts of palm. 2 thick slabs were perfectly charred and served with slices of raw palm atop a spicy Asian sauce. We also shared Spanish mackerel and sable. Each was irresistible: the 1st broiled with a sweet-hot sauce and the 2nd with its skin shiny black and delicious, served on a block of succulent tofu. As an after thought we ordered beet greens that were unremarkable. For dessert we had grapefruit posset (a British drinkable custard, unknown to our server), the sweetness cut with basil. Annisa is all good!

My wife and I have been frequenting Annisa for over a decade now and it honestly just keeps getting better. Anita Lo works magic in the kitchen and the inventive as well as diverse menu is amazing. The extremely knowledgeable wait staff is professional and the presentation of the dinner is just perfect. Annisa is a very pretty restaurant and it competes with all of the upscale restaurants in the City. Annisa is gem in the West Village, and once again we are looking forward to returning.

Went for an early Saturday dinner. As we entered, we were assailed by discordant jazz, which I think is a terrible background for enjoying a meal. We went a la carte. The appetisers were good. When the mains came, my fish was tough and half raw on the thicker side, so that I had to send it back to be cooked longer. Once corrected, the food was delicious. The staff were caring and apologetic, but our enjoyment had been spoiled.

Everything about our dinner was top notch from the gracious greeting to the professional but friendly service to the decor and the food. The neutral colors, soft lighting, and simplicity induce a lovely calm. What a pleasure to be able to have a quiet conversation while dining. We ordered the 5-course chef's tasting menu; each dish was delicious and used unusual combinations of ingredients, textures, flavors, and colors on top of a solid, classic technique to deliver a feast for the eye, nose and palate: from the beef tartare to the dumpling with foie gras, Spanish mackerel, and roast pork, to the array of mouthwatering desserts (grapefruit posset, bread & butter pudding to die for, and an irresistible "tasting of chocolate."

We've been going to Annisa for years and have always loved it. We celebrated our anniversary here this week and it was very disappointing. The appetizers were good, but the entrees were very blah. My fish was overcooked, and the flavors on all four dinners were uninspired. There was a piece of cork in my wine when it was poured, I made joke, but there was no effort to change the glass. At a price of almost $100 a person, it's just not worth is anymore. There are too many other great places. Good is not good enough.

So close to perfect, except someone in the kitchen is WAY too heavy handed with salt. My char was perfectly cooked, but the fig-sumac purée it was served on was super-salty, drowning out all other flavored. I love fig - so disappointed! Annisa is one of those gems of a restaurant, the creation of a notable chef who has made it in her image. It's expensive. And the food, while very good, wasn't "unbelievable" and even a little dated in its presentation. Nevertheless the room is small, the aesthetic just perfect, and there is a coziness (we had a circular booth for 6 people) that allows one to feel that you're in a fairly private place. We celebrated a "special" birthday and it's the perfect venue for such a small, intimate celebration.

I went with my husband without high expectations as we have just dined at Marea and was not too impressed. However, when the food arrived and starting from the first bite of the sashimi the food completely blew us away. We have ordered 4 appetizers to share - including the beef tartare, sashimi, foie gras dumpling and the baby squid. Then the duck and buffalo for main. Price was very reasonable compared to other similar restaurants. I would definitely visit again whenever I'm in New York!
