A word from Annie's Bistro Francais
Annie's Bistro is located in beautiful Mount Pleasant Towne Centre in South Carolina, nearby Historic Charleston. Owned and operated by Carole Robert and her husband Mark Manly, Annie's Bistro Francais is named for Carole's late French mother.

Carole, the chef, found a love for cooking while growing up in Paris and spending weekends on a family farm outside the city. There she was immersed in farm life and learned everything from pickling vegetables to butchering chickens. Eating was always a big part of family events and in preparation for these gatherings she learned recipes and techniques of French cooking.

At Annie's Bistro, everything is fresh, using locally grown produce. With no pre-packaging, your food is made to order. You can dine in or take out and during the warm seasons there is outside seating. Experience lively conversation or settle into a quiet nook, all while enjoying fresh farm to table food.

Diner Reviews
  • "Menu was very limited the night we were there. Four pork dishes and no beef or chicken. The starters were as advertised and very good."
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "It is hard to know where to begin. On the good side, the restaurant is very quiet. This may be because so few diners chose to eat there. The service is pleasant but not explanatory. A co diner vetoed the fish of the day because it was served with the head; chose the shrimp dish after asking about the sauce and the server (could he be the owner too?) failed to mention that the shrimp were also served with the head on. The chicken tasted as though it were par boiled before being served; roast potatoes looked (and tasted) like tater tots and the haricot verts were limp, stringy and obviously re heated multiple times. The cheese plate was the only redeeming dish of the meal. And they have a passable Bordeaux."

  • "Our party included two adventurous eaters and two conservatives. The duck and coq au vin eaters found perfection, and the sausage eaters (spicy lamb and some kind of blood) were very happy with their discoveries. The charcuterie plate and escargots were the perfect starters to split. We don't normally go for dessert but we knew they'd be wonderful based on the rest of the meal and were right. Whatever is offered on the day you go will be worth the caloric splurge. Our new favorite in Mt. Pleasant and maybe all of Charleston."

  • "I absolutely love the atmosphere of the bistro, the bread was absolutely fantastic and the tomatoes on the tomato salad were some of the freshest I have ever tasted. The duck was seared perfectly and extremely fresh. Overall great experience, and the owner and chef are very friendly and both have great attention detail with both service and presentation of the food."

  • "We had a great evening at Annie's. It's a cute restaurant with amazing food and good service. We ordered the escargot and stuffed mushrooms to start, both were fabulous and good size portions. The shrimp over rice with ratatouille was great; the shrimp was very fresh and both the shrimp and ratatouille had great flavor. We also had the duck which was seared to perfection. We didn't have room for desert on this visit, but both options sounded fabulous and we will be sure to try on on our next visit!"

  • "The setting at Annie's is wonderfully romantic. From a first viewing, you think, "I love this place". The shortcoming thought is the food. It is far too heavy. My wife and I had the vegetable dish. The vegetables were cooks far too long, to the point of being mush. The garlic are excessive. The vegetables should have been cooked such that you could individually eat the separate varieties. The were so heavy that you didn't even want to eat it. My wife politely asked if she could take her's home, so as not to appear that we did not like our meal. We left with her take home and unfortunately, I don't think, coming back."

  • "Friendly service and delicious food. Our favorites were the charcuterie and cheese plates and the merguez sausage entree. Tuna could have been seasoned better and with a little more sear, but otherwise, very good."

  • "We were excited to dine there after the review in The City Paper but were very disappointed. After being told by Open Table that we couldn't get our 6:30 reservation spot, we opted for a later time. When we arrived at the restaurant, there was only one other full table! There was no "Welcome to Annie's" that greeted us, just a guy with sunglasses on his head who said "You can sit anywhere you want". The food was bland and tasteless when it arrived. Would not recommend this bistro at all."

  • "What a delight. A neighborhood bistro where the food is superb, the owners hands-on and very friendly, and your neighbors at the next table become friends over great French flavors. Chef owner Carole is a delight -- passionate about her fresh ingredients and simple yet complex tastes. The smell of garlic when you enter the bistro let's you know something good is about to happen -- and it does. Run, don't walk to visit this bistro. You will be back."

  • "Great find in Town Center of all places. Quiet area near Lowe's. Plenty of parking. Food and service great. Even liked the house wine. Desserts homemade - we were a large group so we got to try all of them! Will definitely go back. "

  • "Excellent food and service in this new French bistro! Soft shell crab special was delicious. Will return soon for lunch and/or dinner. "

  • "I would not recommend this restaurant to a anybody right now. I am a snowbird and will be back next winter to try it again. There seems to be a problem with working out the kitchen as it is very slow. Neither my husband or i enjoyed our meals......My duck breast was tough though it looked red --it seemed to have put under a lamp or in a microwave before serving. The merguez that my husband had was not very good and we wondered where they came from---a French restaurant that closed in 2013 had wonderful ones....maybe a different distributor. Also the kitchen had a heavy hand with SALT which is not good for lot of people who suffer from edema easily!!!! A l'annee prochaine...will try it again in 2015"

  • "In the midst of the surrounding multi-national chains of Lowe's and Town Center is this small husband and wife bistro. We were very surprised to get a reservation for a Sat. night on one of the city's most crowded weekends and even more surprised to find the restaurant almost empty. But soon we learned that the couple who opened it had only started serving dinner a few weeks before. We actually heard their whole story and more as the husband waiter and wife chef visited our table several times to chat between courses. The food was remarkable, very fresh, simple, tasty and heartfelt. The chef's French heritage is evident and the couple's passionate enthusiasm for their enterprise is impressive."

  • "Annie's was very enjoyable. Our hosts were terrific. The food was very good. We were accommodated when we wanted to change some items in our meal. The hosts were friendly and available to chat. This restaurant is quite new. However there was not any of the startup glitches that normally might best a new venture. The owners are experienced restaurateurs from Bethesda, Md"

  • "my wife and I heard about Annie's from a golfing buddy and decided to try. When we arrived on sat night we were one of two tables. We ordered dinner and appetizers from a somewhat limited menu. We were very happy with all of our food. The dishes were delicious and authentic . They had additional specials that we tried as well. We will definitely go back ."

  • "My wife and I found this new GEM on Open Table. Mark was great with his suggestions and service. We loved the food and wine. We will be repeat attenders!"

  • "A very formal ambience, with attentive service. Well prepared food which is reminiscent of a small French bistro. Although the wine list is limited, the wines were thoughtfully selected and provided affordable options to accompany the meal. All in all, a very enjoyable evening with good French food."

  • "Definately not recommend, no greeting and no service, had to ask for everything including silverware. Regarding the foods, vegetables are very very moissy, look like cook for long time. Just so waste my $100 for 2."
    Dined on 9/7/2013
  • "Quiet, friendly dinning experience. Variety of choices at reasonable prices. Duck was a bit tough, but chicken and pork were very good. Only one choice for dessert, but looked like a treat (no room to try). Only caffeinated coffee, which was a surprise."
    Dined on 8/14/2013
  • "We walked in full of expectations, and were met with a damp, dark and musty environment, feeling more like a port side bar than a french bistro. No linen on the tables, water in wine glasses, and the menu on a mimeographed sheet. The selections were few and not attractive. We begged the indulgence of the nice man who was there and left quickly before taking further chances with the actual food. I would not recommend it"

  • "We have been here serveral times and the food does not disappoint. We are warmly greeted by the owner and his wine and food suggestions are always welcome. This is a small, quiet place to eat and relax. If you want a crowded, noisy setting, this restaurant is not for you. But if you want a nice meal, with friendly but not intrusive service, this is a good place to try."

  • "Its great to support local businesses. There are better options in the area. Not a horrible experience but it was worth a try."

  • "Was intrigued by description of owner/chefs but very disappointed with the food and service. Service was slow for such a small place and not very welcoming or congenial. Slowness would have been ok, but our entrees (salmon and duck) arrived overcooked, making it seem as if they had languished in the kitchen too long."
    Dined on 5/16/2013
  • "When we arrived for dinner at 7:30, the restaurant was completely empty. The owner/staff were taking a well deserved break from the mother's day dining experience .They could have said they were closed, but invited us to sit down and have our meal regardless. Great customer service"

  • "Annie's is not quite a French bistro. The food was decidedly average. The duck breast was passable. The French Onion Soup was not that authentic and had way too much cheese on top. I had merguez sausages that looked like third rate breakfast sausage and tasted only marginally better. But nice ambience and service was attentive and friendly. The high point was the dessert: a brownie a la mode with berry compote. Not exactly French but certainly tasty."

  • "A very good, small, restaurant with excellent food and service by the owners. Helpful in selecting food and wine from a relatively limited menu, but the selections were outstanding. Carol, owner and chef, visited out table and filled us with the desire to come back to experience some of her "signature" dishes, like her monthly preparation of Cassolet (spelling ?), something we will do enthusiastically. A rare find in busy Bethesda."

  • "I generally liked the place. Great atmosphere and the people were friendly. The service was good but, I have to add, that our entree's arrived only shortly after we had been served our appetizers. I had the cassoulet where the lamb was tasty but a bit over cooked and the rest of it was dry. My friend had ordered a sausage which was served as sausage links when we thought it might be two larger sausages. They too were tasty but a bit overcooked. Nice ambience but I would not return."
