Since 1937, once nestled in the middle of cornfields stands the Smokehouse Market. An unpretentious structure, reminiscent of its days as the market for the surrounding Chesterfield area. The store now houses one of St. Louis's most celebrated restaurants, Annie Gunn's. Within its walls, Chef Lou Rook, III works his magic, creating irresistible cuisine with a sophisticated country life accent.   • "What a perfect meal! There were 8 of us so lot's of room for error but the food and service were better than outstanding. Everyone's meal arrived at the same time - hot, cooked exactly as described and ordered, and absolutely delicious. Jamie, our server, couldn't have been more knowledgeable and professional. We've eaten here many times and we're always amazed at how Annie Gunn's achieves perfection with such consistency."

  • "The last time we were at Annie Gunn's was before the 1993 flood. We went this time for our wedding anniversary and were so very pleased with the service we received from Darlene (You can all me Darlin) and the rest of the staff. The food may be the best I've ever eaten. A little pricey for my budget but no complaints. You get what you pay for. Many years ago we took a limo to Tony's in downtown St. Louis and it is a great memory. This time we drove our Ford Escape to Annie Gunn's and it is even more memorable. We can't say enough good things. As the kids say now days OMG! THANK YOU SO MUCH."

  • "We told one host that we were celebrating our 10th anniversary and that we had had our first date at Annie Gunn's. Within minutes, the entire wait staff was congratulating us on our 10th and they brought us a lovely Moscato on the house! We heard congratulations throughout the evening. Our waiter, Andy, was incredible and just an awesome guy! My husband wasn't quite thrilled with his steak, so they gave him a pick of other steak choices and rectified the matter. The rest of the food, smokey shrimp, house tomato salad, scallops, were all to die for and very well prepared! A foodie's delight. They brought us 2 desserts, again on the house, and were as lovely as they could be. Overall, was a wonderful evening!"

  • "I went to dinner here the other night and it was fabulous! The service was great and our waitress was awesome. She helped with any questions we had and was very friendly. The prices may be high but you definitely get what you pay for. I was pleasantly surprised how much food was brought out, even the appetizer a lot! It was a wonderful experience and I would definitely go back!"

  • "We decided to visit Annie Gunn's to celebrate my wife's birthday again since it had been years since we last dined there. We were not disappointed. The bar is well stocked and the wine list is extensive. We started off sharing the seafood sampler and it was a deal in our opinion. The smoked shrimp and scallops were surpurb. My wife had the potato soup and I went for the house salad. I would recommend both. We ended up selecting the special smoked ribeye and yellow fin tuna for our entrees. Both came with whipped potatoes and vegetables. Our server surprised us with a complimentary apple pie ala mode for desert. We will be back for our next special occasion."

We took my 92 year old mother, so she has so challenges, but this was not an issue at all. Our server handled everything very well, the food was prepared as we asked for it, and we all enjoyed our meal. We we certainly retun for another special dinner."

I think - the servings are much too large - (dinner type of meals) - however - you can take it home with you. Food is well prepared - and service is very good. We will go back again. The chef sent us out champagne for a start & the most amazing homemade apple pie with cinnamon ice cream for dessert.   • "Based on online reviews and personal recommendations, I took my wife to AG's for lunch on her birthday. Overall, we both thought it was just ok and did not live up to expectations or our money's worth. We shared all of our dishes and agreed on everything. We started off with the beet salad, which was excellent. Our two meals were the pork chop and salmon. The pork chop was thick and juicy but perhaps not as flavorful as I've had at other high end St. Louis restaurants. However, the duck sausage that came with it was the highlight of our meal. The main part of our other entree, the salmon, was rather bland. We did not get dessert. Although disappointed, we would give AG's another shot but order something it is known for-steak."

  • "This was my first time to Annie Gunn's in Chesterfield. I was bringing an employee for her special lunch as she was going to retire in a few days, and this was her favorite restaurant. We all had a very good experience sitting on the outdoor patio even though it was a little warm, but there were extra fans on the floor which made it surprisingly easy to take the heat. Our waitress was extremely good at her job keeping us hydrated well by refilling our drinks without us asking and coming around at appropriate intervals to check on us, give us the specials and generally take care of our every need! The food was wonderful, delicious, hot where needed, and artfully presented on our plates. I will definitely be back to try the dinner service!"

  • "The two disappointing factors were the noise level and the short ribs entry. Our table was ready, the waiter and all other personnel were attentive. Due to the noise level we could not converse without shouting at each other. It is probably my fault for not sending the short ribs back, but I am just not one to do that. (Too meek, I guess) The waiter advised that they were running low on short ribs ...Mine were almost like an overcooked left over serving of dry roast beef. No doubt, the last available which should not have been served. Certainly not up to my expectations for Annie Gunns. We were celebrating our 63rd wedding anniversary and appreciated the complementary apple pie dessert, but I don't think we will return for our 64th."

  • "Went to Annie Gunns to celebrate my 60th birthday and someone in the party spilled the beans to our server. After a fantastic dinner I was offered any of their desserts on the house. Decided to try the bread pudding which I've never had anywhere before. It was out of this world. Service was excellent. Our server Mindy was a joy. Other than a higher than expected noise level it was a perfect evening. I think the severe weather (thunder, lightning, heavy rain) may have contributed to the chatter as we had a birds eye view of the storm front. All in all - a great evening. I highly recommend a visit to the Smokehouse Market which is right next door."

  • "We celebrate our anniversary at Annie Gunn's every year - and visit in between for various reasons - and they never disappoint. An attentive and professional wait staff who not only knows and understands the menu, but the extensive wine/beer/whiskey list as well. The bar side is a little noisier, which is why we prefer the restaurant side, or the patio. Either is an excellent choice for a lovely evening. You'll never feel rushed, and you'll always have what you need when you need it. We're never disappointed and it's worth every penny every time we go to Annie Gunn's!"

  • "Since we dine here often, there is not much more to say other than this is one of the best restaurants in St. Louis and always has been. Lou Rook is St. Louis' original celebrity chef and this meal was a perfect example. Simple steak tartare was the best we ever had. A chicken tostada was flavorful and the tomato soup was superb. We just had a series of appetizers as it was a late night. We especially appreciated being seated in a snug without asking. The privacy was nice. Manager John Cain made sure we were well cared for this evening."

This time our steaks were a little over cooked, but they made up for it by bringing new steaks and with a complementary dessert. When you go make sure you have plenty of time because dinner takes awhile. I think of it more as an experience. Will definitely be back."

  • "My husband wanted to go here for some time and I hate to say it but we were disappointed from the moment we were seated. The tables were so close together that we felt like we were dining with the people next to us, very uncomfortable. The food was average at best and the bill was $128 for 2 steak dinners, one glass of wine and 2 waters. I expect to be very impressed for that kind of money and it didn't come close to the wow factor for us. We will not be returning."

  • "We went for an Anniversary dinner out....a bit family oriented on the patio, but mostly couples after 8:30 We had great appetizers (tomato salads and grilled shrimp)- amazing! Decided to create our our "surf and turf", with a strip steak and the scallops/grits......loved the flavored butter toppings on both- amazing! Decided we needed a piece of that amazing apple pie with cinnamon ice cream on the side...WOW! We also enjoyed a special bottle of wine that the waiter recommended- turned out to be an AMAZING evening....yum!"

  • "One of the best restaurants in St. Louis Area. My wife and I used to live in Chesterfield and used to go all of the time. Made reservation for my wife's birthday with another couple. Like their superb wine list, the restaurant got better with age. This restaurant will provide exactly what you would reasonably expect from a great, not good, establishment. If it were closer, I would have to put in for standing reservations!"
