A word from Angus' Cafe Bistro
Angus' Cafe Bistro is a one hundred-sixty seat, full-service eatery located in the heart of New York City's bustling Times Square. Given its proximity to several Broadway theaters, the pre-show dinner seating is the restaurant's busiest, but before or after is the time to take advantage of the restaurant's charm for either a relaxing lunch or dinner without the pressure of an impending curtain. Additionally, the restaurant offers several attractive features including a bargain prix fixe lunch menu, an irresistible late night snack menu and the house specialty: a porterhouse steak for two which includes unlimited wine by the glass if you order it after 8pm. Brunch is served all weekend long and private parties/special events of all shapes and sizes are willingly and expertly accommodated.

The did is not good. Tastes like nursing home food. Flavorless and lacks any creativity. I had the short rib du prix meal prior to catching a show so I was given a sample of their food. Bad decision. My husband got a soup and salad. Not good. The only perk was the service was fast and there is a full bar.

My husband and I were going to see an 8pm show, and needed a pre-theater dinner offering. I chose this restaurant for convenience, and because of the celeb backers.Service was great, the space was lovely. The pre theater offering were smaller portions of regular sized entrees, which was fine. But the food was not good. My wine tasted like the boxed wine I used bring into my dorm while I was a freshman in college. My salmon was overcooked, the ratatouille had a bizarre, unpalatable flavor. Salad was undressed. My husbands short ribs were only OK, but he kept insisting that I have some, which is extremely unusual for him! Scotch pie was interesting, and was the only thing that I liked.

It began with an empty restaurant off Broadway at 5pm on Saturday night, that should have been our first clue. My menu was greasy. My childs Mac and cheese was sour from the milk AND cheese. The rigatoni d'inverno tasted like chef boyardi and the bus boy in such a rush was spilling liquids not cleaning it up and reaching over us instead of going around. The staff stood around gossiping and finally the bathroom was disgraceful. Worst restaurant in NYC.

My salmon was very over cooked. It said it came with spinach, it was not spinach. It's another bad Times Square restaurant. The waiter was nice, that was the only upside.

WAY TOO NOISY. Salmon was okay, sauce on squash was bad. "Garlic" mashed potatoes had no taste of garlic. Never got more water I requested. Wasn't full, so why seat us near the restrooms and near the kitchen door so waiters would bomb us coming and going? Won't return

This restaurant could be a gem, but it isn't. The service was dreadful…after ordering we waited for 30 minutes only to have the waiter come with food we had not ordered. The"hostess" apologized and we started over! Not a good experience as we were going to the theatre. No air conditioning so we asked to be seated in the bar area as a breeze was coming off the street…however, while the restaurant has an entrance, these french door/windows are used by many to enter the restaurant and create a parade of people stumbling over our chairs…not pleasant. When we suggested a simple way that would encourage use of the real entrance, the "hostess" said, "Angus likes it this way". We will not be returning.

I booked this restaurant because it was on a list of best places to eat before going to a show. It was a little disappointing. The food was not that great and neither was the service. If you are looking for a relatively cheap and quick place to go before a show, then this will do, but you are probably better off going someplace else.

We had the fried calamari, the pulled pork, the Sheppard’s pie, the bread pudding, and the brownie sundae. All were delicious. I had 2 draft/tap beers, my DH had a martini, and a diet coke. Portion sizes were perfect. We went to Angus before Phantom. This restaurant is conveniently located across the street from the Majestic. We were drawn in by the restaurants advertisement of a before show dinner of $19.99 called the dupre' which we found out is a three course (very modest) size with all three courses on one plate. Because we like to eat and were very hungry we went for something a bit more filling. Our bill with a $20 tip was about $160.00. Draft beer prices were cheap so if you're on a budget get the dupre' and have a few beers.

Angus' Cafe Bistro is a nice little restaurant that is convenient for attending Broadway shows. My 3 course pre-theater menu was enjoyable as were the drinks, the ambiance and the service. The one and only fault we had was with my wife's Grilled New York Strip Steak which was not a great cut of meat for it's $36 price.

Unless you eat hamburgers, this is a limited and expensive menu. The reason to go is that it's one of the better theatre-district restaurants. The best time to go here is after the theatre or at lunch time (not on matinee days) when you are not so close to the next table that you must participate in their conversation. I've eaten here twice in the past week and the first time the waiter actually made a face when we said we'd have only 'tap water to start'. ugh

Used to love this place. They now allow diners to enter and exit through a window/door; there was a parade of people past our table, including a large stroller, switched tables but should have left. The service was AWFUL. Begged for bread and water, told there were no bottles of chard, they found one after about 15 minutes, had to wait for ice bucket, had to flag down server for more water, check, computers broke, got the wrong check, the place was chaotic. The busboys seem to be doing most of the work.

We would have preferred the dining room, but were seated in the bar area because there was no air conditioning and the bar area windows were open. This on a 85 degree day! The food was OK, as was the service, but I ordered the fixed price dinner and all 3 courses came on a single plate and the portions were miniscule. The food tasted fine, but the whole experience was a little disappointing.

We went to this restaurant after reading good reviews for places to eat before the theater. It was a great location. However, the food was average and extraordinarily expensive. It is New York, but one thing that shocked me was the cost of lemonade. Ten dollars for a small glass and a refill. Refills are not free on soda either. Our dessert was tasty and in comparison, moderately priced.

We really enjoyed Angus the past few times we have visited. The ambiance was more ritzy and the menu choices were expanded. This time the menu was much more limited with only one choice for a vegetarian meal (had to ask to withhold the meat to a pasta dish) and it was more of a pub/sports bar feel than a fancy restaurant. A little disappointed.

Food was mediocre at best. Made reservations because it was close to theatre & they had a pre theatre price fixe. You are paying for location only. Would not recommend.

The tables and arms of the chairs were uncomfortably sticky, I'm sure they haven't been cleaned in a long, long time. The room was hot - time to turn on some fans (doors were all opened). The food was OK, not excellent, not good. I mentioned to my waiter that 8 of my mussels remained tightly closed, he repeated the statement and walked away - not to be seen again until the check came. The service was worse than horrible. Now it's been several years since I've been to Angus (it wasn't called Angus Cafe Bistro) but I returned based on the fact that I remembered it as a really good theater area restaurant - - - times have changed, as has the restaurant. This visit was a total disappointment.

The food comes out quick- in minutes really, but that's the only positive thing I have to say. If you think about it, roasted chicken and even fish and hips should take a little more than 5 minutes to prepare if it is fresh! The fish and chips was rubbery and the buttermilk chicken was dry with no sauce or gravy as the menu indicated. I asked to sub out the fries as I cannot eat potatoes. The server offered fries or baked potato. My salad was $5 extra which is fine, except when it came it was a handful of plain lettuce. And my chicken was alone on a plate with grease around it. This was the worst dining experience I have ever had. You are better off at a diner or fast food restaurant- please do not eat here, there are many better choices.
