Diner Reviews
  • "We come here often and always have a good meal. We bring a bottle of wine, and then pick our food to go with the wine. A very delightful evening."

  • "$105 for a 5-course chef tasting plus wine pairing is extremely hard to come by, especially in wine country. The 5-course tasting menu was in actuality a 6-course tasting menu and it was FANTASTIC! Our entire table left extremely happy and with our bellies very full. The stars of the night were definitely the cauliflower soup and the bacon-wrapped quail. Do not pass up on the tasting menu - you're in for a real treat!"

  • "We had made reservations on open table requesting a nice table outside. This was done 3 days ahead of time. We got a table in a corner by the bar/kitchen seemingly. Pretty sure they gave my table away to a regular or promised it to someone else. After much fuss we managed to get them to hold a table for us outside when people left. We got moved outside after about 30 minutes. We had to look for the waiter most of the time and flag him down. The food was about 50% satisfactory. Half the dishes were good the other half nothing special."

  • "We have eaten here many times and it was always very good. This was a very poor experience. Three guests of our party of six ordered bass which came dry and tasteless. I had duck which was overcooked and tasteless. Even the steak was poorly done. None of the items came off the check although they were brought to the waiters attention. Even the one dessert we had was not compt. A poor experience overall and very disappointing from one of our previously favorite places in the Napa Valley."

  • "So many wonderful places to eat and yet this was one of our favorites in Napa. Quaint and friendly with amazing food and wine. We felt like we were in Provence. If you're in Napa, don't miss this little gem along the river."

  • "We saw that Angele was mentioned in the Bay Area Top 100 and we were not disappointed! A window side seat allowed us to watch the flood tide on the Napa River as we enjoyed the excellent food and service. We now have a favorite eaterie in Napa, with easy access, followed by a delightful stroll along the river in this rejuvenated part of the city of Napa."

  • "Went to Angele's for my birthday, based on a review by Michael Bauer. couldn't have been happier. Chose the tasting menu- puree of corn soup,, heirloom tomato salad, the appetizer "lasagna", duck, cheese plate and an incredible coffee pot au lait and lavender flavored doughnut. Each course was perfectly prepared and presented. The soup was to die for, the heirloom tomatoes perfectly sweet and ripe, the "lasagna" melt in your mouth, the duck perfectly cooked, etc. The wine pairings were perfect, and the extra champagne to celebrate my birthday a nice treat. Costly, but totally worth it for a special occasion. We will be back to try brunch and lunch."

  • "Enjoyed our dinner. It was a late dinner and the table wasn't ready when we got there...waited a while. We had a tasting menu and there was plenty of enjoyable food (we ended up having to take some courses home). The wine pairing was just ok. We had a nice time here."

  • "Took my parents to Angele for their 45th wedding anniversary celebration. We had a great time. Food was amazing, service was good, ambience was average. We all enjoyed our food very much and price was reasonable. Mac & Cheese was to die for!!!"

  • "I go to Angele every time I go to Napa....Love sitting outside. The one problem was the hostess looked at my reservation but did not check me in so I got a message from Open Table that I did not show up for my reservation.I think this has been resolved now...The staff was very pleasant....will continue to go to there."

  • "We just returned from Paris and we wanted to continue to have fabulous food from France. We were not disappointed. My husband fell hard for duck confit while there and did not want to have a bad experience. I read all the reviews and hoped for the best. We were so amazed at the great meal we had. He had the sweetbread as first course and recommends them highly. Duck was perfect. I had the pork chop and would definitely order it again. Dessert was also very good. Creme brulee for me and chocolate mousse for him. We will be back!!!"

  • "When you spend $100 on brunch and only have 1 drink each, the standards are high. Food was average, service was slow and there are a lot of better options in the area. Skip Angele and go to Grace's table. Not only was the food better, it was way more appropriately priced and the staff was more attentive despite having 10 times more diners."

  • "Fun atmosphere with fantastic food. Spent a long no kid weekend for our wedding anniversary and this was our favorite spot. The service is great and the food was spectacular. Highly recommend as the spot to go in Napa. "

  • "Wonderful spot. Booked the reservation 2 weeks prior. This particular weekend was when BottleRock Napa was going on. The staff accommodated our request to be on the patio, overlooking the Napa River. Great service, attentive but not pushy. The food was fabulous, especially the oysters. My wife's salmon was done perfectly and my duck breast was as well. The only negative, which we have with nearly all Napa restaurants is the $25 corkage fee. We purchased a bottle there instead. But having some great wines of our own, which we preferred, would have made for an even better experience. "

  • "There is no question that the food at Angéle is good, but is it good enough to warrant the prices they charge? I can think of a number of restaurants in the Bay Area, including Napa, where the food and service are as good, but the prices less gouging."

  • "They gave us very special attention for our 42nd honeymoon."
    Dined on 5/26/2014
  • "I wrote in the reservation notes that my husband and I would be dining at Angele for our honeymoon. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated at a very nice table with complimentary champagne. I ordered the scallops; the sauce was fantastic but the celery root that accompanied didn't quite pair well. My husband enjoyed the duck. My only reservation about returning would be the "energetic" noise level. Our reservation was on the late side for dinner, but it felt more like a bar scene. We decided to forego dessert because the noise was giving us headaches. Next time I'd make sure to dine earlier."

  • "This was a very satisfying experience. Staff was great, no waiting with reservation. Angele is located right on the Napa River and offers a casual yet elegant dining experience. We dined outside so I cannot speak for the inside dining experience. The conclusion of the evening could have been handled a bit more efficiently. The check was a bit slow to come but once processed was returned very quickly."

  • "This is one of the best restaurants in Napa. The 3 couples ate here before a show at the Uptown. Started with nice specialty cocktails. Oysters all around. We all had different entrees and all of them were excellent. My husband thinks the Mac and cheese is the best ever. Orders it everytime we eat at Angele's. Our friends thought the food was exceptional. The service was great. The steak and duck were given to the wrong people but the two guys eyed each other after one bite and switched plates with a laugh. "

  • "On our recent trip to Napa we had lunch at Angele for the first time. The salad Nicoise was delicious as was the salad Lyonnaise. My husband had the pate and it was very good. Angele is a cute and cozy restaurant with excellent service from the time you check in at the hostess stand. We were impressed and went back for dinner the following evening with friends. Recommended!"

  • "We've eaten at Angele before for lunch and had great food so we decided to try it for dinner. The food was very flavorful and had great presentation, but I felt the proportions were skimpy for the price. But, it is a French restaurant so I guess that was to be expected. Also, I thought our server did a good job, but not as good as I would expect from Angele."

  • "This was our second visit. We ate at Angele Restaurant and Bar last Valentine's Day and were very impressed. It had a good menu and we enjoyed the food. Sadly, this time, we were disappointed in a couple of things. One is that they did not offer their excellent French Onion Soup which our party had looked forward to. The other disappointment was that it was a beautiful day on the river front and there was no outdoor seating. Even though they are equipped to host outdoor dining, it was closed down. Because the restaurant itself is quite small, the noise level inside reached the point where we were unable to carry on a conversation. We will probably try one more time later in the summer and hopefully we just caught them on a bad day."

  • "Right after making my reservation, I noticed that Angele was listed as one of the Chronicle's 100 best Bay Area restaurants, so I had high expectations. But it fell a little short. The food was reasonably good (I had the pate campagne and fish/chips) but not outstanding. The cinnamon creme brulee had some cinnamon flavor, but I would have preferred more. Service was friendly and efficient. Setting is very pleasant. Restaurant is open all day, which is a plus. But they need to raise the food a few notches before it becomes the kind you always remember and ache to have again."

  • "My girlfriend & I traditionally take her Mom for brunch every Mother's Day. This year, the menu was bit off. My girlfriend is vegetarian and the main entrée section was very meat orientated. She had to settle for a beet salad, on the small plate section, which is barely a half beet and some other small condiments. Her Mom got the same thing. I had the Eggs Benedict with Pork Belly. The sauce was great as were the muffins, and the eggs done perfectly. The lump of pork belly was a bit gross. I was expecting a thick bacon like piece, but it was this large lump of fat with a bit of meat somewhere mixed in. It had a very gamey taste and threw off the rest of the meal. Needless to say, we left a bit hungry. We ended up going elsewhere for lunch. "

  • "Angele was the perfect choice for a Mothers' Day brunch in perfect weather with the perfect daughter! It's one of my favorites in downtown Napa and not usually as crowded on it was on this particular Sunday (a reservation was a must). I love the frisee salad with French lentils and a poached egg, and the house-made gazpacho with fresh crab was sublime. I'm looking forward to a return visit soon."

  • " We went for brunch, and sat outside where it was beautiful. Based on this Restaurant being in Michael Bauer's Top 100, our expectations were really high. We ordered the gazpacho with crab meat, and the fried cornish hen with stuffed waffles. The crab meat tasted really old, and even if it didn't, the gazpacho really over-powered the crab. The game hen was very over cooked and dry, and the waffles were really dense and flavorless."

  • "What a wonderful Mother's Day brunch we had at Angele!! The staff was fantastic and so was the food. My Mom truly enjoyed her Eggs Benedict-she is not easy to please -so this was 'wonderful'! Thank you Angele staff for making this Mommy (me) feel special. "

  • "Menu was limited, didn't match what was promoted on their website. Felt a bit rushed at first, but it got better. Waffle was kind or hard, not very warm. Chicken as well. "

  • "A friend told me about Angele and since we were staying close to Napa we ended up going there for Breakfast, lunch and dinner over three days. I enjoyed the upbeat and romanticism of the décor. So many restaurants have a modern starkness which gets tiresome. The food is French which I love and the outdoor riverside dining is pleasing. Modern delicious food. Easy access and wonderful service. Who could ask for more?"

  • "Angèle's reputation for great food is deserved. What was surprising was the poor quality of service. After being served water, we were ignored for quite some time before the waiter bothered to ask us for drink orders. In the meantime, we watched as he checked in on other tables nearby, chatted with other waitstaff and generally ignored our nods, smiles, and prods from the distance. I am not a wine specialist; my dinner partner is. She asked him to compare a white wine she was unfamiliar with to another which she did know well. Even I could tell from his response that he was making it up. Perhaps better would have been to recognize he was over his head and fetch someone with more knowledge. At $15 a glass, it's not asking too much."

  • "As a French restaurant in the fine wine region, the food was a disappointment for us. Steak tartar was cut into too large pieces, quail as the main course was dry, too salty, and tasted more of bacon than bird. Also the sole was a bit tasteless. The Irish coffee was like a joke, the ingredients were brought to the table (cream in a can) and you had to make the drink yourself. Sugar, when asked, was brought in fast-food paper bags. Considering the price of the dinner, this didn't meet our expectations."

  • "We could of stayed all night if only we could eat more! Another fun plus was even though I don't currently have a pup it was wonderful to see the outside dining was dog friendly. "
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "The menu was very varied, offering many great choices. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. Service was also excellent. I don't have one criticism about anything, from the food to the ambiance. I would definitely return!"

  • "The food was excellent. We felt like we were somewhat rushed, even though we let our server know we were in no hurry. We had to pour our own water and wine and were never given bread when every other table was served bread. Our server was impersonal. "
