A word from Andina
Andina draws inspiration from the native culinary traditions of Peru, as well as from the contemporary cooking by some of Peru’s leading chefs. Owner Doris Rodriguez de Platt, collaborates with Andina’s kitchen team to develop a menu that celebrates her family’s Andean roots, interweaving the ideas and techniques of both Criollo and Novo-Andean cuisines. The kitchen sources native and local ingredients to create dishes at once traditionally rooted and personally inspired. Founded in 2003, Andina emerged as one of the region’s leading Peruvian restaurants and continues to generate wide appeal within the food communities in and around Portland, and much further afield.Continued

  • "Best restaurant in Portland hands down. Great food choices that are always served to perfection. Impeccable service and great atmosphere. Looking forward to our return trip."

  • "We had a great time at Andina. This is our third visit. The first was a great evening squeezed into the bar having excellent Peruvian beer, and small plates. The second was a group downstairs in the special room. This time it was just the two of us. Our waiter was excellent, and the food never fails to amaze."

  • "The food was undoubtedly amazing, however the rest of the experience was nothing better than average. Our server seemed to forget about us a couple times, granted it was ridiculously busy, but still, a prompt drink order is a necessity I think. It also seemed like the walls just bounced sound off them and right back to you... It was difficult to hold a conversation across the table. Otherwise, beautiful restaurant, beautifully created food, and the lamb was one of the best I have tasted."

  • "A great evening in a vibrant and hip restaurant. Make sure you reserve as this is a popular spot!"

  • "Our server and the "gate keeper" DG were amazing! Service was superb on both the bar and the restaurant. Lamb dish was outstanding. One of our Portland highlights!"

  • "We came here for our 2nd anniversary. I found it online, yelp I think, it had good reviews and I can see why. Everything that came to our table was amazing and distinct in its own flavor. The waiter David was so attentive and super smart. He was a rock star waiter. One of the owners came by to say hi and give a history on the purple corn drink. Which by the way if you eat there get the purple corn drink! Menu doesn't do it justice. The filet migon was fantastic! I can't think of one bad thing to comment on. I pray we can get a babysitter so we can go again."

  • "Excellent service. We were new to the restaurant and the type of cuisine served. Our waiter patiently answered our questions and provided excellent suggestions. Everything we ordered was delicious!"

  • "The waitress was unbelievably understanding of my current required food limitations. She really went above and beyond."

  • "Beginning with beguiling cocktail choices, followed by small plates and then entrees, the offerings were beautiful as well as delicious. Would definitely recommend this as a 'must-do' when visiting Portland."

  • "This was my third visit. It has been exceptional every time. The manager and staff make an effort to ensure we're having the best experience possible. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "Had a wonderful lunch here. Very eclectic menu and food was very good."

  • "The restaurant was a bit too noisy and frenetic for me but it was Saturday night. However the food is to die for, the cebiches wonderful (we shared a medium Mixto Chorillano) and followed with Conches del Senor de Sipan - the best scallops we have ever eaten. We would definitely eat mthere again on another visit to Portland"

  • "My wife and I randomly ate here at noon on a Saturday. We have no complaints. The food was fresh and amazing with great flavors, the staff was super friendly and their complimentary bread with Peruvian sauces are to die for. The plates are a bit small, it's kind of tapas style and the price is a bit high but the ingredients and flavors make up for it. We had the empanadas, conchas a la parrilla and classic cebiche. All great. Their cocktails are delicious too. We had the sangria and a margarita and they were both perfect."

  • "The sashimi special may have been the best ever. The lime/ginger gelato outstanding. Staff spectacular. Owner visited our table; very genuine."

  • "no need to order a big entree if you share several tapas as we did: cebiche, tuna, octopus, beef tartar ; and don't miss the desserts (flan or ice cream)"

  • "Every time we come to Portland it's a mandatory stop for us. We usually share three of the appetizers and one of the entries. Food is great and it's an amazing restaurant."

  • "We were on vacation with our teen children and wanted a fun, out of the ordinary experience for our budding foodies. Andina delivered! You can't miss with anything on the menu. The scallops are a must try. The duck, lamb & boar were also amazing. Unique flavors lots of different spices & ingredients -all delicious!"

  • "A friend told how highly he thought of Andina. He had been twice and was extatic about the food. When friends visited from San Francisco we grabbed a reservation (3 weeks in advance) and went to Andina for a special occasion. The decor, food, and service went beyond our expectations. BUT, only on rare occasions could we hear eachother across the table. I would go back for lunch-hoping the noise level would be tolerable. The noise could be helped alot be dropping thich fabric panels from the ceiling. Do people really like to shout at eachother at a good restaurant?"

  • "We mostly do the tapa menu so everyone can get a taste. I love that you can get small, medium, or large and the waitstaff are very knowledgeable about how much is too much or just right for your group. We were disappointed in the tuna.....sliced thin, marinated in?.....we left most of that, but the other dishes were stellar as always."

  • "A lovely restaurant in the pearl district, great location for lunch. I suggest trying their fried seafood wontons and a margarita!"

  • "As a connoisseur of Peruvian food, this is the best I have had. The service was the best I've had in ANY restaurant and Mama Juana makes you feel as if you are the only person that matters in her restaurant!"

  • "My sister and I were extremely happy with our meal. We shared two entrees, and Robert our waiter did a wonderful job bring split plates after we were completely ready for the next course. We shared a dozen oysters, then we shares the duck entree, then we shared the lamb. We had old fashioned for drinks. Amazingly they changed it all up a it to a accommodate gluten ant dairy sensitivity requests. But here is the classy part. I met a wonderful couple sitting next to us, and we found a lot in common with them so decided to surprise them with a by paying for their meal. So I left extra cash with Robert and he took care of the rest! The couple texted me later that night to say thank you. It's rare to feel so inspired to pay for a strangers meal."

  • "We enjoyed sangria and small plates. We had stuffed peppers, smoked fish, purple potatoes and an assortment of creme brûlées. The flavors were fantastic! Our server was extremely patient as we took our time ordering--two old friends catching up and we were not rushed at all."

  • "We had plates of tapas, and each was more outstanding than the last (tartare, cebiche, crab-stuffed avocado, scallops, stuffed yuca even the quina tabule). Delicious mains, wines paired perfectly. Waiters brought free desserts to help us celebrate the anniversaries. Only criticisms are that it is a very darkly lit dining space so the elders in our party had trouble seeing, and we had trouble iding the delicious ingredients in the dishes. Also, it can be very noisy, it's a happening spot!"

  • "After reading mixed reviews that were overall favorable we tried Andina. It was a Saturday night and it was clear the waitstaff was overloaded. We were served drinks one at a tome the first coming 25 minutes after we sat down. That one was watered down with most of the ice melted from sitting at the bar. The second, a glass of wine took ten minutes longer. Our bread arrived with our first two below average tapas selections. After another long wait, our vegetable tapas arrived. For us, the food was not inventive or delicious, or even presented well. Others around the very loud restaurant seemed to enjoy themselves so I give it a third star. Maybe we just had a poor selection. Or maybe, it was just overbooked."

  • "I always eat at least once at Andina's whenever I'm in Portland. It's never disappointed me yet. Doris, the owner, is always gracious and personally welcomes each table. Staff are very knowledgeable about the food and wine. This time I brought a friend and she loved it and was very impressed. Will definitely be back!"

  • "My husband and I hear great things about this establishment and we were not disappointed. After arriving 15 minutes late due to a delayed flight into PDX, the hostesses were incredibly accommodating and seated us quickly and in the main part of the restaurant. We found the appetizers, food, drinks, and dessert to be WONDERFUL! Additionally, even with alcohol, the bill was fairly reasonable for a nice establishment with such great reviews. Check this place out if you can, but definitely make reservations."

  • "We loved everything about Andina. We stuck to the small plates because everything on the menu looked so good, we wanted to try as much as possible. We had six people in our party and we ordered about seven of them. All of us loved everything...even the beef hearts were wonderful. The crab-stuffed avocado, stuffed yucca, and potato frittata were delicious. Our waiter was extremely helpful, patiently helping us navigate the menu and choosing wine. Then there was the dessert: we split two orders of trio of creme brûlée, which was amazing. Highly recommend!"

  • "The food was good, but not great...and we were expecting great. We ordered the sea food plate for two and were very disappointed in the two civiche's that came with it. We also ordered a couple of small plates that which we enjoyed more. The Peruvian steak tartare was excellent, but the beef heart was a little tough. If we were to go back, we would just order off the small plate menu."

  • "Have always enjoyed coming to Andina . Tapas is alway done very well and service is always great. This was only the second time that not only did we have tapas, but dinner as well. The tapas as always was spot on and very good. We had decided on an entree, but the waitress told us about the special. An adobo pork with butternut squash and cheese ravioli which was topped with a puree of squash in a very layered sauce. It was supposedly on the old menu. All I can say is outstanding!!! The waitress was full on attentive , knowledgeable and help us thoroughly enjoy our meal . Great recommendation. A truly a great meal and birthday. Hope this special gets back onto the regular menu again"

  • "This was our first time at the restaurant. The Quinoa bread was amazing. They had several vegetarian options. The presentation of the food was colorful and interesting. Food tasted equally good. Most of all, the service was outstanding."

  • "We had a good lunch here this week. the service is great and the meal was o.k. We were very happy to have a gluten free menu for a guest with celiac disease and he enjoyed his meal very much and the special attention that was give to his needs ; the server and staff were very informed about his issues without our input. The "moderate" sized appetizers were quite huge and enough for three of us to share. The food presentation is still lovely and the cocktails are excellent! The three choices that come with the bread are always tasty..the bread, not so much!"

  • "Andina used to be one of our favorite go-tos for special occasions, so we went for my husband's 45th birthday. Sadly, this place has really slipped. While the menu looks essentially the same as previous visits, there is real decline in the food quality. It has gotten extremely popular and is very crowded, and it seems to have affected the time & care with which the food is prepared. Our asparagus were stringy, the chorizo flavorless (how do you manage THAT?), and the piquillo rellano lacked the complex/complimentary flavors of the past. The best dishes were the simplest (e.g.: avocado stuffed w/crab), where the mass-production assembly didn't have as much effect on the quality. So sorry to see a once-great place become so average."

  • "We've managed a trip to Portland every summer; and Portland has a great food scene... so many restaurants to try but Andina is always a must for us when visiting Portland. The menu hasn't changed much but why would they change it? Everything on there is so good and the portions are generous. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Service is impeccable. You can tell there is so much pride in the food and the service staff are knowledgeable of both the food and wine."

  • "Everything was great, starting from the ability to reserve a table, they follow-up to confirm the reservation, and the table is ready right when they promised. Perfect and attentive service. The food is to die for. We drove all the way from Vancouver BC to have dinner at Andina, and we would do and will do it again in the future! Their ceviche (we tried the regular fish ceviche for dinner and their ceviche mixto the next day for lunch) was awesome, as well as the two causas we tried, the nikkei and the limeña (I believe it was called the limeña), and the lomo saltado, the anticuchos, the arroz con mariscos...everything tasted really good, some stuff even better than in some places in Lima, where my wife is from. Highly recommended!"

  • "The atmosphere in the restaurant was electric. The wait staff friendly and professional. The food offerings were exciting and adventurous. The dishes expertly executed. My SACSAYHUAMÁN cocktail was delicious. On our trip down the coast, we drove through Portland specifically to eat here...was not disappointed."

  • "This definitely a place to eat when you are in Portland, but it is a popular place, so you need to get a reservation early. We had tapas (croquettes, asparagus, empanadas, and crab-stuffed avocado), and they were all well prepared and delivered at the perfect times. The tables are a little crowded, but the environment is vibrant and exciting. A great experience!"
